Nameing & 'Save As' in LR2.6 similar to PSCS4?

I have searched & found no help. Is it possible in LR 2.6 to be able to make a minor edit to a file name and save it similar to how I can 'save as' in PS CS4?  This would save many hours in a weeks time and /or allow me to be more specific in my file naming routine.
thanks, Bob Hartman

There is no "save as in Lightroom" . You have to use the export function then choose the settings and folder location you wish to save the exported file.
Lightroom is different from Photoshop it is not a pixel editor but operates in a non destructive manner, not altering your original files but saving your edit functions to the catalog file/ or to sidecar files if requested.

  • CS2 won't save jpg since LR2.7 has been installed

    Hi folks,
    A few weeks ago I purchased LR 2.7 (and don't regret it for a minute!). Since then my CS2 has developed some funny habits, though, and won't save any  photos as jpg that have first been worked on in LR. The error I get is "Cannot save due to program error". I assume that CS2 (antiques, I know...) is not really compatible with LR 2.7. But at the moment I have to make do with exporting first from LR and then opening it again in CS2 if I need to go on there. Everything works fine that far but after all the work I put into the thing CS2 just won't play. No problem saving as psd file. And I have created a 'workaround' to save my efforts after all, pasting it into a new document in CS2. No problem saving then. But it seems rather strange to me.
    I work with an XP PC with loads of space & an external harddisk, a dual core quad processor and 4GB RAM. The original photos are taken in RAW.
    Anybody who can give me an idea why my CS2 is having these fits of jealousy since it got competition from LR?
    Thanks and grts

    Hi Victoria,
    Thanks for the very prompt reply!
    And yes, I indeed did use the adjustment brush in all the obstinate cases. I
    think that I'll go for Jeffrey's for the time being and wait for my purse to
    fatten up a bit to get the CS upgrade which I was planning anyway. Thanks a
    lot for your help

    I'll bet you've used the adjustment brush or graduated filter?  There's a
    CS2 bug that falls over that perfectly legitimate metadata.  Your options
    are:
    >
        •    Upgrade to CS3 or later.  (While we’re on the subject of CS2 and
    upgrades, CS5 is the last upgrade that CS2 users can buy at an upgrade
    price.  Once CS6 is available, CS2 users will have to pay the full price to
    upgrade, as only the previous 3 releases qualify for the discounted upgrade
    pricing.)
        •    Check the ‘Minimize Embedded Metadata’ checkbox in the Lightroom
    Export dialog, which will strip ALL of the metadata.  It solves the problem,
    but leaves you short of any metadata in your files.
        •    Use Jeffrey’s Metadata Wrangler to strip just the problem metadata
    from the file, which is by far the best option.
    >
    To use Jeffrey’s Metadata Wrangler Export plug-in, you’ll first need to
    download it and install the plug-in from
    http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler
    >
    Select the plug-in in the lower left of the Export dialog, and you’ll see
    the additional section appear in the main Export options panel — scroll down
    if you can’t see them.
    >
    The only part you need to remove is the ‘crs’ block -– all of the rest of
    the metadata can stay.  The ‘crs’ block is the Camera Raw Settings metadata,
    better known as the Develop settings, and photos exported with that block
    removed will quite happily save as a JPEG, even with Photoshop CS2.

  • How to Save Captions in LR2.7

    My problem; In the "library" mode I enter captions in metadata, go to the metadata dropdown window and click on "save metadata to file", then export the file to a new folder. When I import that file later the caption does not show up in the caption window unless I open the metadata dropdown window again and click on "read metadata from file", so I know the caption info is attached to the file. If I export the file to another new folder, then later import it again the caption does not show up in the metadata caption box.  AND, worst of all, when I send the file on a CD to my magazine Photo Editor, the caption does not show up.  I do not know what software he uses but I can only assume it is of a professional nature, and he receives many photos with captions from other photographers, so why is my caption information not readable to him???

    JohnJay ... it sure would have been helpful, and saved you a ton of time, if you had read the manual, or watched some videos about Lightroom. Approximately two weeks on, and we're still struggling with saving captions. If ever there was a advertisement for reading the help files and watching the videos, this is it.
    Lightroom does NOT work like other software programs you may be aware of. There is no SAVE or SAVE AS. It simply isn't necessary. All of your edits, and all of your metadata are saved immediately in the database; you can't even turn off this feature. Ctrl-S saves metadata, it does not save your edited photo (like other editors do), and there are some portions of the Lightroom catalog that are never saved with Ctrl-S, like collection membership. There's a lot more to be said about why Lightroom is different, but you'd be better off watching the videos tutorials. For example, http://tv.adobe.com/watch/george-jardine-on-lightroom/the-lightroom-catalog/ and many many others.
    How do I copy to CD from LR without doing an export after I have made all these changes including adding a caption?
    This works only for RAW files ... afer you enter the caption(s) and save the metadata via Ctrl-S, you go into Windows Explorer (you can select a photo in Lightroom and then right-click and select Show in Explorer), and find the desired photos and their corresponding XMP files and you copy them to the CD using Windows or some Windows program! By the way, are you 100% sure you have to send RAW photos to whomever it is? And are you 100% sure the recipient can make use of RAW files with Adobe XMP sidecar files ... because if you don't have the right Adobe software, the information about your edits is basically meaningless.
    Or are you saying that once I have entered the captions I can just hit alt+backspace removing all photos from catalog and all the changes, including captions will be saved in the xmp file and raw file?
    I never said anything remotely close to this. I have no idea what would happen to your XMP files in this instance, as I never looked to see what happens. I can tell you that I do not recommend removing photos from the catalog, except in the case of totally ruined photos. Do not do this.
    A little bit ago I imported a raw file that did have the xmp file attached but when I looked in "library" metadata, right above the caption window was "sidecar file" and in the little window next to it was xmp, so to me this meant that even though the file did not show it, the xmp info did transfer or carry across to LR. Does this make sense to you?
    Everything seems to make sense except for the part which says "even though the file did not show it". I don't get that part. Pronouns, like "it", must have clear antecedents, and I don't understand what "it" refers to. So, basically, no it doesn't make sense.

  • Can Java save straight to EPS or similar?

    Thanks for reading, heres the setup--user visits my site to design his own custom plaque-he picks a template in my hypothetical Java app and sets to work entering names, congradulatory text and picking from pre-defined graphics/logos and then clicks the ORDER button.
    Can I export his design intact to my server in an EPS or similar, common vector file format? Preferably converting some of the type to curves in the process.
    I don't want to go through a lot of BS to get the file (as with Flash)--I can't run the output through some third party interpreter and get a sorta-kinda-like representation of his design--it's gotta be THE WYSIWYG design he produced. Reason being we're trying to avoid the layout-proof-update roundtrip--what he designed is exactly what we produce and if there are any mistakes they are his, not ours. (It may sound harsh but it's the only way we can possibly compete anymore--we need to offload the design process 100% onto the customer)
    So, can Java do this? Can I get an EPS or similar format straight out of a Java app?
    Thank you.

  • LR2.1 + CS4 Photoshop Save & Save As Weird behavior

    Have been using CS4 and LR 2.1 with no problems until now. Today I noticed something weird in Photoshop CS4 and saving files.
    If I open a raw file as smart object from LR 2.1, edit file choose SaveAs rename file and save file as PSD, the new SaveAs file name shows correct.
    Problem: Then if I make further edits and choose SAVE, now the name of the file reverts back to the default name that was used when loaded from LR not my SAVEAS name. All future SAVES are to the wrong file, not to the SAVEAS but to the file name loaded from LR.
    Any one else notice this?

    Did more testing to see what was happening with the CS4 Save command.
    From LR 2.1 open a raw file as a smart object into Photoshop CS4. File name is rawfilename as Smart Object-1, LR2.1 smart object default naming.
    Make changes to image in CS4 and do a SAVE AS for a different name as a PSD. New SAVE AS name now shows on top of window and is correct.
    Make further changes to image and then select SAVE, after saving the file the name now changes to the naming style set in LR2.1, gone is my SAVE AS file name. All saves are now to this new file not to my SAVE AS file. I'm now working on a DIFFERENT file then what I just saved from the SAVE AS command.
    To make this more confusing, change the name again using SAVE AS to a new name and edit some more. Now do a SAVE and back again to the LR2.1 naming style, your not editing the SAVE AS file any more....
    I can not do a SAVE AS and edit the file and save to this file, it always changes to a new name disregarding my SAVE AS when I do a SAVE.
    This can not be right? I do not remember this happening with LR2.1RC and CS3.

  • Photoshop cs5 + Save For Web appends file names

    Hey everyone :
    Anyone know of a fix or a preference i can set? Hopefully, the response isn't "Can't do that anymore".
    Example file name/structure:
    Filename_partof-filename.version-01.00.psd
    Issue (save for web):
    CS3 - Filename_partof-filename.version-01.00.jpg
    CS5 - Filename_partof-filename.jpg
    Using a period as part of the file name was never a problem before CS5/5.5. Having to re-type half the file name in the SaveForWeb dialog is aggreviating/annoying to say the least. I know I can use hypens and underscores, etc but after using photoshop since v3 and using periods as part of my naming convention for 15 years, ...like I said, it's just an annoyance.
    Anyone come across this? Suggestions?
    Thanks tons,
    Greg

    Adobe Photoshop Version: 12.0.4 (12.0.4x20110407 [20110407.r.1265 2011/04/07:02:00:00 cutoff; r branch]) x64
    ...yep, everything up to date (more or less).
    This isn't a recent CS5 issue but a CS5 issue from the day it was released...I just got aggreviated enough today with it to come here and see if I could find an answer. It's definitely a SaveForWeb issue and not SaveAs.
    Here's a similar post from back in March 2011...http://forums.adobe.com/message/3509172#3509172
    Just to be clear...
    - Open new/old PS file
    - Save with name.name.v.01.psd
    - Quit PS
    - Re-open file
    - SaveForWeb
    ...if you're able to save it out with the file name in tact, I have no idea how.
    I've tried 4 different CS5 Photoshops and they all truncate the name after the first period.

    I can see that my event log is getting updated with other stuff like "IKEDBG/79" - "Phase 1 failure against global IKE proposal".

    Try re-naming the existing files, and then do the save. I had a similar problem, and I think it was a corrupt file that the system could not overwrite, but could rename. Then you can delete the old one.

  • Add-on save-as-filename (reverses changes made in 18.0) no longer works in 20.0. can some repair it?

    In the FF 18 a change very annoying to me was made (once again, first was GUI in 4.0) to change way in which filenames was made.
    GavinSharp from mozilla made fix on this fixed bug (no. 254139, which was no bug at all) in way of add-on named save-as-filename. This add-on in version 0.1, is still showed as active in version 20.0 but does not work.
    Also Firefox 3 theme for firefox 4+ 2.0.0 now doesn´t work properly as button for download manager now only displays a blank space.
    image can be found here: http://s23.postimg.org/lqpn87xbv/blank_space.png

    I would like to add a little further information - in the earlier version I was able to create a text box for user input with:
    var LYP = sym.$("LastYrPct");  //fourth layer - "LastYrPct"
    LYP.html("Last Year Percent (enter as whole number i.e. 80 for 80%): ");
    inputLYP = $('<input />').attr({ 'type': 'text' , 'value': '' , 'id': 'LYP' });
    inputLYP.css('font-size', 9);
    inputLYP.css('text-align', 'center');
    inputLYP.appendTo(LYP);
    And then later on the button submit function, read what the user had typed in the box with:
    var lastYearP = inputLYP.attr("value");
    ... reading the "value" attribute I'd set up in the input box definition.  That no longer works and I'm assuming that it has something to do with the scope since the read happens in the submit button function, but I don't know.  I'm assuming I'm missing something obvious.  Thanks for giving me whatever help you can with this.

  • Save for Web or Save As Jpg for website

    Saving photographs for my website. Files are big, 1140 pxls high (width varies with cropping/landscape or portrait). Because of the large size of the photographs on screen, I need a good quality file - minimal artifacting.
    Is Save for Web (Tiff or PSD to Jpg) going to give me a smaller file size than Save As Jpg at a similar quality (compression) setting?
    Website is Flash, so I'll strip the metadata, but in situations where I want to keep metadata embedded (ie on blogs), is Save for Web still going to give me a smaller but still high quality file?
    Can anyone explain what Save for Web does differently to Save As - when dealing with Tiff/PSD to JPG?
    Thanks!
    Mac, CS5.5

    I'm not discounting the ability to inspect images in greater detail. I'm just noting that it is inefficient as a designer/publisher to push more data than what the average user needs. That is not how the internet works now or in the future.  You did not download the entire Adobe forums for offline reading. You open only the forum pages/discussions that interest you. We invite data to us. We don't have it slammed at us. I would not doubt that your pinch zoom example could be addressed with a javascript event to load a higher resolution graphic between the moment the image is first touched and the point when you zoom.
    There is no such thing as unlimited storage and bandwidth. Check your hosting plan for the fine print. BizLand/Endurance hosting will most certainly yank your site offline if it starts to take an unreasonable share of system resources from other sites shared on the same server.  I've seen this happen often, especially with Endurance hosting. I'll never use them again.
    You may be able to get away with bloated graphics on your own site, which ranks 2,310,866 on alexa.com. But a site like adobe.com (ranking at 65) is going to be much more concerned about image sizes. If you host an image at 300kb that could have been 100kb, you waste 2MB among the handful of people that visit your site in a day. At Adobe's scale, they will have wasted multiple gigabytes of bandwidth.
    Bear in mind that you are limited to a certain number of concurrent HTTP connections. This has not changed with the advent of faster networks. While a connection is held up to load a larger graphic, another HTML, JS, CSS or image file has to wait in line to load. Peek into the source graphics used in this page. Jive makes heavy use of css sprites to lessen the dependence on multiple connections.
    You will never get away from designing for economy. That is why we use JPG images instead of BMP images.

  • CS3: Having problems creating an Action to "Save for Web"

    Hello All,
      I'm trying to create an Action to convert my psd. files to JPEG's suitable for the web.  I'm using a Mac Pro running CS3.  My workspace is Adobe RGB (1998), all files begin as Canon CR2 RAW, are edited at 16 bits, and then saved as psd.  I created an Action the following way from an open psd. image in Photoshop:
    1) Windows>Actions
    2) Create New Action
    3) Re-named "Save For Web" then clicked Record
    4) Image>Duplicate>OK
    5) Edit>Convert to Profile
    6) Changed Destination Space to sRGB IEC61966-2.1>OK
    7) File>Save As
    8) Format> No JPEG option ??????????  What?
      Everything seemed fine until I reached the Format stage.  I had many choices, but JPEG was not one of them.  Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?  Thank you!

  • Report or FM to Upload and save a file to SAP

    Hello All,
    I have a requirment to upload a file and save it into SAP ( Something similar to attaching a Document to a standard SAP transaction say IE01/IE02 transaction ).
    I want to store a document for each record of an ALV grid report. That is, each row on the ALV grid can have a link to a document. Also a new document can be uploaded and saved for each row.
    If any one has worked on a similar requirment , please do write back.
    Thanks,
    Ketan.

    For the html form, u need:
    <FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="servletOrJsp" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data">
    <INPUT TYPE="FILE" NAME="FILE1" SIZE="50"><BR>
    <INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Upload">
    </FORM>
    In the servlet/jsp, you need to handle multipart request which you can't get it by just request.getParameter("FILE1").
    Try jspSmartUpload, is a free and easy to use API specifically designed in this situation. The examples given are pretty straight forward :)

  • How do I find the files in all folders named Camera 1?

    Is there a way to search and find all of the video files in a certaint folder name? For example: I have many folders in different directories labled as Camera 1. I would like to be able to search for the files in all folders named Camera 1, but exclude any similar file types that might exist in other folders such as Camera 2, Camera 3, etc... Is there any way to do this?

    You should be able to sort by file name, file size, or last modified date by clicking the column heading. If the column headings are gone or you do not have all those details, there might be a way to reset your FireFTP settings but I've never researched it.

  • Create and Save a Photo Colllage from Light Table

    Hi Everyone,
    I want to create a montage of several photos that I can save as one .JPG or similar, then take and have printed as a large photo collage.
    I have had limited success using Apertures Light Table feature, however cannot find a way to save the entire light table as a single image for printing.
    Can anyone offer any advise on this, or perhaps suggest a different application that will do the job?
    Best Regards

    If a PDF format works for you, then you can simply choose the light table, select FILE->PRINT LIGHT TABLE and in the window that pops up you can select SAVE AS PDF.
    Then you can print that file...

  • Preview Destroys Files On Save

    Every once in a while, Preview will find a JPG that, after I edit it, it will decide it should destroy on a save--it nulls out the file, keeping a lock on it (I cannot overwrite the file even if I close Preview). It's consistent with the file--if it eats the file once, getting a new copy from backup and editing again will do the exact same thing on a save. Has anyone seen similar behavior?
    There is another bug with Preview I'm going to post a different question about involving keywords; it may be related, but I doubt it. Preview has been very, very buggy in Snow Leopard.
