Names of iTunes Music Files

I copied (imported?) several songs from one of my CDs into iTunes. The filenames appearing on the monitor are something like file01, file02, etc. I transferred (downloaded?) those files to my iPod Namo. So far, so good. I copied several more songs from a different CD into iTunes. Again, the filenames are something like file01, file02, etc. I transferred those files to my iPod Nano.
The first group of songs was again downloaded to the iPod along with the second group. I'd like to copy more CDs, but I don't want to download the first group for the third time.
I wanted to rename the files; but I can't find them. I looked at the names of all the files in the iTunes directory and subdirectories. I don't see any filename that I recognize.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks very much.

You do not and cannot transfer files "from your hard drive into iTunes". If the file is on your computer's hard drive, you "add the file" to your iTunes Library. iTunes is an index (or list) of your music. The music is not "in iTunes".

1. ... And yes the actual file name in Windows is being altered.
2.  This happens to song titles.  For instance on my computer "Level 4- dance mix" becomes "Track 1" on iTunes and also on my iPod after files are imported into iTunes
Okay - let's be clear;
what is the filename (in your computer's explorer) of the "Level 4- dance mix" before you add it to iTunes?
what does that filename become after adding the song to the iTunes library?
What track title (song name) and artist is displayed by iTunes once you have imported the file into your library?
Remind me later to explain what is happening with the numbering; 1, 10, 11, 2 etc.

I have two different itunes music files on my computer.  How do I combine them into one file?

I don't think so. The only other ID I have is a developer id, and I didn't get that until several months after I got the phone. In addition purchases I made from the App Store onthe phone would sync up with It unes on the Mac meaning it would be the same id.
However I looked at the AppStore on my phone while it was connected to the Mac with iTunes open, and now the balance has changed to the same as the others.

  • How can I  move the 'Itune music file' to another disk

    Hello
I am using ITUNE in a Winfow XP environnement. I am running out of space on my C disk. How can I move my ITUNE music file
    C:\Documents and Settings\Yves\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
to another bigger partition on the same computer?
Sorry if that question as been answered before I may have missed it.
    Thanks Yves.

Sorry, there is no way to move that file out of the Profile folder, or specify a different location for it, built into Firefox.
One extension that might be able to help you do that is Pike's Bookmark Backup extension. BB allows you to specify which files are backed-up and where those backup files are saved. It also has a backup interval setting, IIRC. <br />

  • Is there a resource fork with iTunes music files?

I want to put a few iTunes music files on an SD card and plug it into my Panasonic TV for sort of instant access.
It worked and sounded OK, except I get two files on the SD card for every file in iTunes (the second one isn't recognized).
I seem to remember this was an issue with JPG image files and people used GraphicsConverter to remove the resource fork.
Is that the problem I'm having - the resource fork showing up as an unreadable file?
Is there a way to remove it? GC won't.
    Or is it something else?
    Thanks, HNick

  • I can't drag and drop iTunes music files into Roxio Jam 6 anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the " " or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? G5 Dual 2 Ghz and OS 10.4.11

Hi. I have not used Roxio Jam for quite a long time and I just wanted to make a few CDs. Jam used to work easily and well. I have a problem. I can't drag and drop iTunes music files anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the "+" or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? I trashed the preferences file and restarted Jam to no avail. I also have selected that Jam should open files with iTunes in the Jam preferences. I have a G5 DP 2Ghz PPC  machine with OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 and Quicktime's version is 7.6.4. I have 2 GB of RAM and the machine has dual 1.25 Ghz. processors plus a 500 GB HD. Can anybody give me any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,

    I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

Thanks for the suggestion. I subsequently realized that my Airplay settings on ITunes are ok. The problem is with the settings on Pure Music. I still havent figured this out. When i stream using just ITunes, it works fine, but when I play music using ITunes / Pure Magic, I still have an issue with Apple TV.

  • My iTune music files are all shown as WMA files

When I open iTunes, I was reminded that my default audio player was not iTunes. I previously did not want to use iTunes as default because I like to choose manually when I play audio files. But there have been a lot problems with my iTunes, I decided to use iTunes as default player. I changed the system setting to use iTunes as the default. But when I open up iTunes, I got that message. I clicked OK to choose iTunes as default player. The following warning tells me that I do not have the priviledge to do that.
Most odd is that all my music files in iTunes Music folder are all shown as WMA files. Even the files I used iTunes to rip from my CD are shown as WMA. I suspect the Gates company somehow tweeked the XP not accepting iTunes as default player to frustrate less-a-computer-geeks like me.
There is one more problem. The iTunes Music File folder is all messed up. Songs of the same album get spread out in different subfolders. Many songs of the same album show up in iTunes as individual albums in the coverflow view. It seems that I can't download any album art from iTunes.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Well if you have songs from the same album that are not being listed together in itunes theres one or the other happening and it depends on if all the songs are from the same artist or different artist
    Same Artist
Lets say for example you have one album from....Madonna. So all tracks on the album are from the same artist. If these songs are not listing/grouped together something is wrong with the songs tags. The tags have to be EXACTLY the same on all tracks/songs of the album. You do this by rightclicking the song and hitting "Get Info"
    Different artist
This is known as a compliation album, usually soundtracks and dance mix albums where you have one album and each song is by a different artist. In this case you need to highlight all tracks that are apart of the album THEN rightclick and hit "Get Info". At the bottom select "Yes" under compilation and hit OK, this will group all songs under the same album

  • Error in reading downloaded iTunes music file

I have downloaded an iTunes music file. After playing for 30sec it blocks and iTunes goes to the next track (the official duration is more than 2min)
Is there a way I can re-download the file?
    Thanks

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • After installing itunes update I cannot open my itunes  music files.  How can I fix this problem?

I installed the latest Itunes update and after installing I cannot open my ITunes music files.  How do I fix this problem.

    Hey Joey BOD,
It sounds like you can't open your Music app on your iPhone after the update? First, try force closing the Music app if it is open in multitasking, which you can find out how to do here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137
And if that doesn't work, I would reset the device:
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
via: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
And if that doesn't resolve the issue then I would backup the device to iTunes and restore it. Just be cautious and back up first, since restoring deletes all content and settings:
