Naming ports on my MIDI interface?

Is it posible, in Logic, to name the MIDI ports on my MIDI interface? I have named them in Audio MIDI Setup but that is not reflected in Logic.

I have it now, you have to change into the Envoirement and Click & Ports, one finds the physical input. This shows all MIDI inputs and usually is the sum of all inputs wired. Solving this connection you can connect the necessary input. Thank you Apple Care

  • Disappearing midi interface.....

    Hi,
I recently moved my set up around. The result is that I keep getting this message..
"instrument xp-30 sends to a midi port named port 1 of midi interface audiophile usb which no longer exists". The audiophile icon in the audio/midi set up is dimmed which implies it's not connected and yet the speakers I have routed through it still work normally. It also shows up as normal in system preferences (sound).
In Logic when I click "port" on the arrange window it says "off" and "all" and "unused". "Unused"used to be "audiophile" but it seems to have disappeared. It shows in Logic audio preferences and is enabled in Core Audio. I also get a box occasionally saying "Core Audio sample rate 44100 not allowed". I've tried switching off/unplugging etc.-all to no avail.
I hope this makes sense as I don't know what's going on. Any help gratefully received.

Ah....it seems to have solved itself when I unplug it from a hub and plug it into the mac directly. I've been using this hub for over a year and had no problems even though I'm aware it's not always the best thing to do. I don't really understand why this happens.
Thanks for your help anyway mlehmann.

  • Best MIDI Interface for New Mac Pro's...

    Hello Logic Pro Forum Members,
Are there any MIDI Interfaces available that work well with the new Intel Mac Pro Towers? Want to make sure everything works well. Going from an older OS9 setup with an Opcode Studio 5 [is awesome] to a modern G5 with OS-X 10.4x and Intel chips. Need something that's going to work reliably with Logic Audio Pro and the Mac Pro. Have a large hardware based MIDI studio and need at least an 8x8. Would be nice if the interface allows daisy chaining two or more units for extra ports. Anyone know if something good's available? Thank you all! Donnie Dixon.

    Hi Donnie
Welcome to the forum. I to came from an Opcode background too and all my family still calls me Donnie
I'll go ahead and recommend the motu midi express to cover your 8x8 needs, it is actually 8x9 and it also allows daisy chaining, and it is intel compatible. Check it out here

if you need midi merging too check out the XT version

  • Adding a sound module using a second midi interface

In the arrange window, clicking and holding on an instrument icon produces a pull down menu which includes "MIDI instr" with a submenu displaying the three external midi instruments that are connected via USB and a 4X4 midi interface. We also use a 4th. midi sound module connected via a second USB cable directly to the computer. PROBLEM: The 4th. module does not appear in the submenu along with the other three instruments. It does appear as a selectable "Port" in the track information box on the far left side of the arrange window and when selected it does recieve midi data from Logic. Unfortunately, selecting it there also changes the port that one of the other three instruments is assigned to. I believe if I can get it to show in the submenu list with the other three it will solve our prolem.

In case Jos's assistance doesn't resolve it, maybe this will: Using the example you gave
    for example: "c:\my file system"--->"first_sub_directory"--->second_sub_directory--->"HelloWorld.java"
and assuming that you aren't using a "package ..." statement in HelloWorld.java, and also assuming that the HelloWorld.class file is in second_sub_directory , then you need to mount second_sub_directory in the Explorer. You always mount the parent of the class - or if a package is specified, the parent of the package.

  • What midi interface would work with my iBook g4?

i want to record some simple vocals and was wondering what midi would be best

The midi interface works, but only with items with those kind of ports.
The one you posted a link to seems to need Serial ports. Not available
on newer Mac, perhaps on some older Tower G3/G4 or PCI card update.
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Mini+Macman+Midiman
While the iMic product allows other product to attach to the audio
circuitry inside the Mac, by use of USB ports. Midi porting isn't native.
So other adapter &/or components would be necessary with midi.
A search of various kinds and models of MIDI (if you even need it?)
would yield several kinds of technologies and some outdated even
more so than the USB2.0 or 1.1 ports on an early iBook G4.
(Some suggest using adapters and network ports, LAN, etc, if you
were set up to choose Ethernet hardware as a path. iMic is easier.)
The item you posted link to has no USB and no way to connect to
the Mac, as you cannot use standard high quality audio equipment
with the iBook G4 without accessing the USB ports. With an iMic
you could also access output, for better quality, or pro headphones.
Some products currently available may not work with the older vintage
iBook G4 hardware, but the iMic can be used to adapt microphones,
and better quality audio equipment to the Mac.
I see one could order the iMic product from the maker web page, but
did not try their site far enough to see if it would take actual orders.
In some locations, you may be able to find a quality second hand one
for less than the asking price (without warranty, though) of a new one.
What kinds of audio are you attempting? Do you have midi hardware
already? The item you posted a link to has no way to connect directly.
But the iMic product from Griffin does connect to a USB port. Easily.
    Anyway, more info is needed...
Did you read the iMic -Griffin info?

  • Which MIDI interface?

I've just bought a keyboard which has MIDI In and Out terminals, but no USB. Do I just need a MIDI interface, MIDI cable and USB cable to connect it to my mac? Sorry I'm a beginner! Which interface can you recommend? And do I have to buy a seperate one for my electric guitar? I'd like to buy from a reliable company, nothing too cheap or too expensive if that makes sense?! Anything from £50 to £200?
    Thanks very much,
    Matt
P.S. Can you recommend any good microphones to record live instruments?

I had a quick root around on the net and spotted this device - M Audio Fast Track Pro. Seems like it might be just what you are looking for. Prices seem to be around £150-175. I am inclined to trust it. I have used M-Audio stuff quite a bit and found it all fine. There are pretty much identical pieces of kit by other manufacturers, so to an extent it is all much of a muchness. If you only really need the 1 MIDI i/o then it seems perfect!. It will do your audio inputs and outputs and MIDI all in one box which you can power from the USB socket on your computer. Here is a list of features from the Digital Village website. I can also vouch for the AKG C1000, but there are a whole bunch of other new low cost condenser mics around right now. Go condenser rather than dynamic for recording instruments. (C1000 is a condenser mic and requires phantom power (or a battery) and said phantom can be supplied by the Fast Track Pro).

  • 2 Midi Interface - how to seperate them while recording

    Hi
I use a Firewire Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56, which has a bulit in Midi Interface.
    I also have an M-Audio USB Midisport2x2.
I would like to record MIDI DATA from a TD-12 Modul, which is conected through the Liquid Saffire
and also want to record MIDI DATA from a StagePiano using the M-Audio Midisport.
How can I sperate them from each other. I get a whole mix of both.
How can I assign Inst. Track 1 to the Liquid Saffire and
Inst. Track 2 to the M-Audio Midisport?
    Thanks for suggestons and advices
    Martin

on each track, in the inspector, change the port setting to represent your device
make sure each track has a unique midi channel assignment and not set to all
in settings>Recording. there is a check box that says "auto demix by channel if multitrack recording" make sure it is checked

  • Best USB-MIDI interface to connect Yamaha MFC10 foot controller to MacBook Air

    Hi guys,
I would like to buy a Yamaha MFC10 MIDI foot controller. It has a number of advantages over other foot controllers. For instance: you can connect up to four additional expression pedals to the foot controller, which is something I might need in the future, so it's better to invest in this product so I am prepared for the future.
The thing is, I want to connect this MIDI controller to a USB port on my MacBook Air. What is the best USB-MIDI interface to get in this situation?
I love to hear your thoughts on this.
    Cheers!
    Best regards,
    Theo

Did you set midi communications to USB? I think by default it may be set to the MIDI port on the back. You need USB.
    Press Utilities, then MIDI (F6).

  • Is camera connection kit slower than MIDI Interface?

I have purchased the camera connection kit for use with the new iPad. I am using it with Yamaha's set list designer.
The keyboard I'm using it with is a Yamaha S 90 XS.
I have it hooked up with the USB cable through the camera connection kit.
This app sends program changes according to a set list over MIDI.
When I connected to the keyboard the iPad says this device is not compatible.
However it shows up as a device and everything works fine except that it's very slow.
I'm wondering if a MIDI interface like the Yamaha or line 6 would give me a better result.
Has anyone out there have experience using  the midi interface vs. the camera connection kit?
Is either one more responsive than the other one.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Lpiano

I don't know when you used it last, but there was a firmware upgrade in 2011 that reduced the amount of power allocated to the 30 pin port - and with that the ability for the iPad to recognize and work with many USB devices that had worked before (even more confusing, articles are still out there saying such and such will work, but they were written before the upgrade)
the only work around I've seen some suggest is to use a powered USB hub, but if you've already tried that then you may just be out of luck

  • Garageband Yosemite Midi Interface?

    Hi,
I used to use my Mac with Lion, or Mountain Lion, with an earlier version of Garageband & my Roland RD700 keyboard as a Midi controller & soundboard - using my M Audio Midiman 2x2 to sync the two devices.
I've not tinkered with music stuff for a bit & have since upgraded my Mac.  Ive come to set it up again to discover that Midiman & Mavericks do not play ball with one another due to the drivers not being updated.  I don't particularly want to mess around with new keyboard or Mac downgrades, therefore does anyone know of a usb to midi interface that works in Mavericks &/or Yosemite?
    Thanks

I have a Novation Remote 49le, I'm using with  my macbook pro (os 10.9.5).
It is intermittent at best... after resetting the 'midi driver' in the preferences in garage band, it may work for a limited time, then cancels out ... again (and again).
I have used 4 usb cables thus far and tested on both ports.
No rhyme or reason for this, asides from a potential polling issue in the usb port itself.  This wasn't present before the yosemitie update.  Since the update, my midi keyboard is basically pooched for mac connectivity.
I have run the same tests with an xp laptop and a win 7 64 bit machine, all fine with that equipment, no issues with any of the cables I've used in my macbook tests.
Also, never had this issue prior to yosemitie update.

  • MIDI interface not recognized after Mavericks install

    Hi,
I was using a Midisport UNO with OSX 10.6, connecting my keyboard with the Mac Pro and using programs such as Live and Garageband. After the Mavericks install, I have a bunch of obsoleted hardware. I understand that Midisport have not come up with a driver to support Mavericks just yet. But that is not my issue.
Today, I purchased a new MIDI interface, one that is class compliant and so requires no driver software. According to everything that I have read, from external literature to the interface's literature, the device should work just fine. But my Mac Pro doesn't recognize the device in the Audio and MIDI Setup utility. In fact, it recognizes the Midisport UNO just fine but that device is greyed out and I guess this means there is no correct driver.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro seems to turn off ports when supplying power to USB devices. Sometimes, the front USB ports will not connect my iPhone to iTunes, for example. When I restart, the power sometimes returns. So is this a power issue or does my connectivity problem lie with the MIDI interface?
    Thank you

I just purchased a new iMac running Mavericks. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, I have the same issue. It won't work or be recognized in adui/midi setup. It is there, just greyed out. I have searched everywhere for a fix. All you find is delete this, delete that. It worked fine on Mountain Lion, now it is useless to me. I have tried running it through a hub, doesn't fix the issue. I use power as opposed to just the USB, doesn't fix the issue. Can someone please point us in the right direction so we don't have to go spend more money on a midi keyboard because of Mavericks?

  • Satellite L40 139 and Midi interface

I have an Satellite L40-139 which includes a SoundMax sound card (somewhere inside) and I would like to be able to use it as the basis for a Midi Music recording set up but I cannot get the computer to recognize the Phonic Midi to USB interface that I have.
Does the SoundMax card accept Midi data and how do I go about getting it to recognize it?

    Hi Eldorado
    Thanks for your reply.
I want to connect my midi keyboard To my L40 139 laptop and use a software sequencer to create music tracks.. Not a difficult think for a computer to do!
I have a Phonic USB-Midi interface which is just a bog standard interface, but when I link it via the usb port the laptop says it doesn't recognise it and fail to load it. The end result is that I am unable to use the keyboard to input any midi data into the sequencer.
You are right in the fact that I am using Windows Vista OS but I have not found any Midi interfaces for Vista as yet, but as Midi is designed to be universal (I thought) I would have expected something from it.
    Thanks again
    zippy

  • Intel Mac - MIDI Interfaces

    Hi Everyone -
Can anyone help me? I have 2 USB MIDI interfaces, both Emagic: an MT4 and an AMT8. Bot work with my PowerBook G4, but I've just bought an Intel Mac, and the drivers don't seem to work; the Intel doesn't recognise either of them. I desperately need a solution to hook them both together, so I can use the standalone versions of the plugins I've bought, NONE of which have yet been successfully ported over to work on the Intel.

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi,
I have the Unitor8mkii,and the first time I used my new intel macbook,it did give me some trouble. The only solution I had,was to unplug the Unitor, and then plug it in again.Apparently, the Mac's AudioMidi setup utility had lost communication with the Unitor. After re-plugging it,AMS saw it,and it has worked great since.I use the unitor8mkii for a Mackie MCU,a Line6 Pod,and an old roland JX3P keyboard, and a now obsolete Edirol PCR30 (not supported on Intel Macs, and discontinued as well)and they all are seen by Logic Pro.
hopefully all you have to do is re-connect the USB cable.Sometimes it gets loose from the Unitor side,so check both ends.
