  • IPod Nano (1st gen) Help!!!!

    HELP!!!
My best friend's iPod was stolen last night, she managed to get it back from the guy who stole it from her but now... it's giving her all sorts of errors. Ranging from the minor of a frozen display ("Do not disconnect" won't go away even after done properly on the PC... IF it recognizes the iPod) to where iTunes won't recognize it to where it shows up as a drive on My Computer but won't allow for it to be opened (She's on Windows XP running system). Also, supposedly, another program was used to accomplish this hacking... (which went so far to changing all her settings, including her name displayed "Meghan's iPod" instead of "Meg's iPod"). So far, I haven't been able to help, we've both walked through the reset, reinstall, retry, restart functions and no luck. This included reinstalling iTunes numerous times, resetting the iPod in general. Personally, I'd be inclined to think that the iPod merely needs wiped given the "hidden imprinting" to a certain computer. Would I be right in that assumption or should I just tell her that she has a $200 Canadian paperweight?

    Hi melih1234,
Are you sure that your iPod's "Hold" switch isn't turned on?
    Try resetting your iPod:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times.
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
If that doesn't return the iPod to it's backlight, but it seems to be operating fine, then let's try manually getting the backlight back on by changing your settings.
Bring your iPod over to a very lit up area, so as to where you can hopefully see what's on the screen pretty well.
Click the "Menu" button on your iPod a couple of times. Then, try navigating to the "Settings" menu. Scroll down a bit, and try to find "Backlight Timer" on this list, which should be near the top.
Click on that, and select anything else other than "Off".

  • Ipod nano (1st gen) not charging/not showing up on computer or itunes

I recieved a 2GB ipod nano (1st gen) as a gift back in December 2005. It's worked fine until recently. Yesterday, I tried to charge my ipod. However, when I connected my ipod to my power adapter to charge it nothing happened. The charging symbol didn't even show on the screen. So then I tried plugging it in to my laptop computer. Same result: nothing happened and worse still, it didn't even show up on My Computer or in iTunes. I then tried connecting it to our regular computer. Same result as the laptop and still no charging icon. I tried my 2nd generation nano thinking that maybe something was wrong with the USB cable or with the power adapter but it worked fine with everything. I also tried another cable. But still nothing worked. I've tried the 5 R's thing but it didn't work. I even tried leaving my ipod alone for awhile to no result. Finally I tried putting it into Disk Mode and that's where it is now. I've tried to run through the steps again with this but it didn't work. So now it's in Disk Mode and it needs to be charged but I don't know how to do it. I'm starting to think that I just need to get the battery replaced. Unless someone else has a fix that will work?? Please help!!

It sounds like the port or cable is having a problem. First try a different cable.
If the cable doesn't fix things then try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit) then see if the iPod will show up.

  • IPod Nano 1st Gen not connecting to my computer

My friend's iPod Nano 1st Gen won't connect to my computer (i have previsily added songs to it since last month) and now my iTunes won't show that ipod on my devices lists (I did NOT update iTunes because of the problems other people were getting)..... it will charge on my computer but WON'T sync....... WHATS UP WITH THAT???
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO THOSE THAT HELP.

Could be any number of reasons.  One of them just may be your refusal to update iTunes.  Just because others are having issues does not mean you'll have them!
iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes

  • How I got my Nano 1st gen to update and work

I just got my iPod nano 1st gen today (refurb)
I plugged it in......and got nothing but the flashing folder. I couldn't get it to restore or update...each time I got an error saying a file was in use or a 1418 error. Disk Utility wouldn't recognize the Nano but System Profiler would. I tried over 15 times...still nothing; would not update. I tried resetting the nano, putting in disk mode....nothing. I tried resetting during the update...nothing. Then finally, while using the stand alone iPod updater, I opened iTunes simultaneously and voila, something started happening. Whereas in the beginning, it was formatted for Windows (received that way) all of the sudden it said formatted for Macintosh, then lo and behold my nano rebooted and started working.
I'm so happy. I have previously only owned the shuffle and was so looking foward to this Nano (which I got at a great price, btw US$99.00)
So, what do I think actually did the trick? I'm not sure. The combination of resetting the iPod during the update using the stand alone iPod updater and lauching iTunes 7 simultaneously for some reason worked.
Hope this helps someone who is having a similar problem.

Which "standalone iPod updater" did you use? iPod Updater 2006-06-28 for Mac ?
My understanding was that iTunes 7.0 took away the need for standalone iPod updaters. I've been researching this topic for an hour, and hope of recovering my nano is waning.

I can attach photos if u need
No it wasn't.  The article specifically stated, "stop using the iPod nano immediately and contact AppleCare as soon as possible for further assistance."
Call AC and/or Customer Relations @ 1-800-767-2775 to file a claim.
Otherwise, suggest that you do your own search on Apple's site.  This way the info you find won't be so useless.

  • Ipod nano 1st gen not syncing

My ipod nano 1st gen is not syncing properly. When I plug it in and itunes starts up, it begins the syncing process, but gets stuck midway through. I have it set to only sync checked songs and a specific playlist. Also, it still has enough memory. Cannot get it to sync and stays busy so long i cannot eject because computer is busy syncing! I've also tried to reset and restore, but it wouldn't restore because it was busy syncing!! Help please!

I have the same problem. I have an Ipod Nano 1st generation that won't sync also. I tried downgrading Itunes version and that didn't work. I installed the latest Itunes and firmware but I'm still having the problem.
The only solution I have found is to reset the ipod, then do a restore in itunes then run the sync. It works then once and you will need to do it again everytime you sync otherwise it won't sync. It is rather disapointing considering that the Ipod is supposed to be a premium product.

  • Is my Ipod Nano(1st Gen) an affected Ipod Nano that is eligible for the Replacement Program ?

My Ipod Nano (1st Gen) was produced in 2006 during week 06 of February.
    It states here:http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/
that "Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006."
I don't recall which year I brought mine...
If I send it in and there is nothing wrong with it, I will be charged diagnostic fees and such. I want to make sure it IS indeed an affected nano before I send it in to avoid the fees and the hassle.
Thank you in advance for your help !

It should be included unless you already had the battery replaced by them for some reason. They won't ship you the box unless the serial number matches a recalled model and they won't charge you if something is wrong, they will just ship it back to you. You will get a 6th generation nano in silver, not a 1st gen.

  • Hi I was just wondering, if my iPod nano's serial number says that it is eligible, but its screen is not working, am I still eligibile for the iPod nano 1st gen replacement?

Hi I was just wondering, if my iPod nano's serial number says that it is eligible, but its screen is not working, am I still eligibile for the iPod nano 1st gen replacement?

Yes. They'll still replace your iPod. Several users have indicated that they have returned damaged iPods and were still given a replacement iPod.

Thank you deggie to answer me . You know, I don't know much of computers and of technology but when I bought that ipod back when  they came out 2005 I was able to download music from my CDs and from Youtube to itunes then transfer to my ipod and back and forth to itunes .  Then if I had changed of computer I was able to transfer to that new computer. Why I'm not able to do it ? There is a program(Sharepod) that allow to do that but it cost $35.00 but I thought that was free or it is because that now I have to buy from itunes only?

  • IPod Nano 1st Gen Replacement Program Problem

I recently sent my iPod Nano 1st Gen off for the replacement program.
I wanted to make sure I would be receiving a refurbished 1st Gen back, not one of the latest gens, so I called Apple Care to confirm this.
I'm really fond of the 1st Gen and would like to keep it as a collectors item, plus mine was in relatively good condition as well (And absolutely love the scroll wheel).
The woman I spoke to at Apple Care assured me that I would receive a refurbished 1st Gen iPod Nano, she was very clear on this.
I sent off and just received a box in the mail with replacement. To my dismay, they replaced it with a 6th GEN.
I don't want to sound ungrateful, and I do appreciate Apple keeping up customer service even for old Apple products.
But I specifically asked if a 1st gen would be returned to me, which was not the case.
I called Apple care again today, and they said they didn't have the stock and provided me with whatever they could.
Had I been told there was a chance I wouldn't receive a refurbished 1st gen in return, I wouldn't have sent it off in the first place.
Can't be too upset with Apple, but not particularly happy. Any advice would be appreciated.

I just sent a request for the shipping materials today, and if I get back a refurbished 1st generation nano, I'll be more than happy to trade it for your 6th generation

  • Restored Ipod Nano 1st gen. and nike + icons do not appear in itunes 7.0.2

I have a ipod nano 1st gen. I recently purchased the nike+ reciever and shoes and they worked great. I had not problems installing the latest version of ipod software version 1.3.
On my latest run I got soaked and the nike+ receiver stopped working after the rain. Waited a day until it dried out and reconnected it to my ipod and it did not recognized the receiver.
I reset my ipod and it still did not recognized the receiver.
I restored my ipod and it ereased the nike+ icons from my ipod and itunes. I updated my windows software and reinstalled itunes 7.0.2 in my computer and still the nike+ icons do not appear in my itunes and the updates indicate that I have the lastest version of the itunes and ipod software.
What else can I do to reinstall the nike+ software in my ipod and itunes?

    Hi
this is actually the nike plus forum for the 2nd gen ipod nanos that use nikeplus. You would getter a better response int he correct forum for 1st gen ipods at the link below.
