Nano 2nd generation and podcasts question

I am using the latest version of iTunes with Windows XP. When my nano 2nd gen is connected, I am unable to drag and drop podcasts from my library into the nano.
When I drag and drop a podcast, it "appears" to be copying, however it does not copy over to the device. Any ideas?

i don't believe iPod nanos can play podcasts because technically they are "videos"
This is incorrect. Some podcasts are videos and some are just audio (usually mp3). The first and second generation Nanos can play audio podcasts just like any iPod and like most mp3 players. Third generation iPods should be able to play most video podcasts. However, despite the name "podcast", not all video podcasts work on iPods. The video has to be correctly formated.

Ok so sorry for clogging the community!! I figured it out - you have to copy your videos into itunes manually. I did that, synched and all good!

  • Nano 1st generation and podcasts

Is it possible to download podcasts to the Nano 1st generation? There is no "podcast" category on the menu, so I guess not. I heard someone say you get it thru the "shuffle" menu. ???????
    Thanks for the help,

yes you can podcast are just mp3's...unless you're downloading video podcast it won't work with the ist gen nano(unless you use rockbox)...just drag it to your nano or create a "podcast"folder(playlist) in your nano so you can easily find it in your nano and play it.

Have hand-me-down ipod nano 2nd generation and need to replace music with mine.  When plug into computer device doesn't show up so I can synch it.  Have latest version of itunes.  When plug into computer doesn't give option to restore or reformat.  Help!

You will need to reformat the iPod Nano to wipe it clean first.  For instructions read the user manual - iPod Manuals

I recently purchased the new nano (7th generation) and I love it except for one issue.  On my old 2nd generation nano, when I played podcasts, it would play podcasts one at a time. So if I had 20 episodes of a podcast on the device, it would stop at the end of each one.
With the new nano, I can select and play a podcast, but when it’s over, it goes straight to the next one without prompting.  It keeps on playing all of the episodes of any podcast until you stop it manually.  Setting the repeat function differently does not prevent episodes from being played automatically.
This can be very irritating when I only want to listen to one podcast.  I’ve often fallen asleep listening to one episode of a podcast, only to be woken up hours later by the iPod working its way through all subsequent episodes.  It is also annoying that any podcast which has started automatically in this way is marked as ‘played’ – even if you stop it within a few seconds.  This makes it hard to keep track of what you have actually listened to.
Is there any way to set the iPod to play all the podcasts individually? I have read the User Guide from cover to cover, and can’t find a way of doing this.

    Dude or hot-spur,
Not fishy at all!!!! You really think I would have taken any more of my time to post a bogus rant? We'll no, it is unfortunately all true. I want to hear from anyone who is experiencing such problems not anyone else that wants to put there two cents in. I really don't need anymore hate or negativity. Just people's experiences because I feel like I am the only one having so many problems. Thank you
Yes, I have had some unfortunate bad luck to have so many problems at the same time, but some of them are just things you cannot do on the new OS.
    Thank you again

  • My ipod nano (2nd generation) will cont connect with windows or itunes, windows says it has had reported errors??? any help? havnt used ipod in over a week and now it wont work with my computer

my ipod nano (2nd generation) wont connect with windows or itunes, i used it last week (charged it through USB) then this week when i connect it (once again through USB) it wont work, it says "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems" any help? ive made sure my itunes is up to date, done a reboot on my computer and ipod and still nothing..help please

This could either be a conflict with the iPod's docking port, the iPod's USB sync cable, or even the USB port you are plugging the iPod into on your PC.  So the first thing I would try and do is plug the iPod into a different USB port on your PC.  Make sure it's a high powered USB 2.0 port as they provide a higher power throughput than older USB ports or even the ones that are sometimes available on the front of the tower.
It might help to disconnected all other USB devices from the PC (minus the keyboard and mouse) and reboot the PC. Then reconnect the iPod once again.
If still no luck, swap out the cable with another known working cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged or faulty cable.
Lastly, plug the iPod into another PC to see if it's recognized there.  If the same error appears on another machine, it's likely a hardware issue with the Nano meaning you'll want to have it serviced or replaced.

Try putting it into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • IPod Nano 2nd Generation is requesting 4 digit code. I have never set a lock code. What is this and how can I get my Nano running again?

There is no other way to bypass the combintation lock other than to connect the nano to iTunes and restore it to factory settings, erasing all content and settings from the iPod.

  • The screen on my ipod nano 2nd generation turns black. It still plays music. I've tried resetting the ipod to clear the black screen and the screen goes back to it's normal state but after a few minutes the screen goes black again.

The screen on my ipod nano, 2nd generation, turns black. It stills plays music. I've tried resetting the ipod to clear the black and the screen goes back to it's original state. But after a few minutes the screen turns black again, while the music is still playing. What can I do about this?

That's just the iPod's backlight timer going off, signaling the iPod's backlight to turn off to conserve battery power.

  • Can you get games on the iPod Nano 2nd generation?

This is probably a simple question, but can you get games on an iPod Nano 2nd Generation?

No, unless you previously bought iPod click wheel games and still have copies of them. Apple no longer sells those.

  • IPod Nano 2nd generation software version

    Hi
I need to grab a used iPod Nano 2nd Generation to replace the one I left on the plane   : (
It's quite amazing how much value these units hold on eBay. My question is, what is the latest (or possibly the last) software version that Apple has released for this unit? I want to make sure that I ask the eBay seller what version of the software is installed on the one I'm looking at, as I feel that a currently updated unit will have the best chance of functioning properly. I am running Windows 7 on my home computer.
One of the ones I'm looking at has a picture of the information screen on the unit and it says it has software version 1.1.3. That can't be anywhere close to the last/best one, can it?
I assume that 2GB, 4GB and 8GB are the same in terms of software. I am looking for a 4GB version, or possibly an 8GB.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Nick

That is correct.  Version 1.1.3 was the last firmware update released for the 2G Nano.

  • NANO 2nd generation

Just bought a new nano 2nd generation. Can you download music video to a 4gb nano??
    on the Ipod push menu
    then I click MUSIC
    then I click Playlist
    then I click Music Video
    And noting is there!!
I have purchased music vidoe from Itune. Teh music videos are in my playlist on my computer and will play on my computer. I connect my ipod, sync it music will download to my ipod and play fine. But the music videos will not. why do we have a playlist that says MUSIC VIDEOS if they will not go there??

No, you cannot playback video content on the nano.
Ignore that playlist, it's either there by accident (transferred from iTunes) or by default (already there when you take the iPod out of the box), but no-one seems to know how it actually gets there.
It's a commonly asked question because this playlist appears on the nano which leads people to believe the nano is video capable when in fact it isn't.

  • Should an iPod Nano 2nd Generation Work With Windows Vista?

I understand that many people are having problems with their iPods and come here for support and solutions.
I'm just wondering if the iPod Nano 2nd generation 4g I have that is working just fine SHOULD work with latest iTunes on Windows Vista laptop (which I haven't used yet)?

Just to close this out I was able to connect the second generation 4g iPod Nano without issue. In a matter of minutes I had it loaded, recognized by iTunes with up-to-date software, sync with over 900 songs and almost 200 pictures and then ejected (I manually manage music)! Really sorry for those who can't get iTunes and/or iPod to work!
