Nano 4th gen hold switch not working

Hello. I just bought a used nano 4th gen on eBay. The hold switch is not working - the click wheel remains active and no lock icon appears in the upper right corner of the screen. It's on the latest firmware 1.04 and I've done a restore twice already.
The seller claims the hold switch did work before he sent it. Is there anything I can try to get it to work? It's out of warranty.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
- Reset:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store is in order.

yes i have a solution to my problem only because of a recent phone call from apple they were great.......... in the right hand side of itunes my i pod was displayed. click on the ipod symbol........at the top of the page you will see summary,,,,,,music,,,,,,movies,,,,,,tvshow,,,,,,photo,,,,,on this ipod.
click on music check mark music done and sync

Ipod 4th Gen Shuffle Feature Not Working...

I have a new Ipod Shuffle 4th Gen and I have a many playlists which appear to be working except for one. I have one playlist called "jogging" which the Ipod voiceover speaks when pressing the button. However, when I select it, the track will not play. This particular song/track is 1 hour and 3 mins and is a collage of songs. Is there some reason the shuffle will not play it? It's an M4A file and Itunes says it's synched with the shuffle. When you select that playlist, it starts playing a song in a different playlist like it doesn't exist.

ps. Other playlist selections give one beep. When I select the playlist with the 1 hour file, I get two beeps.

Ipod 4th gen hold switch question

i have described item. i accidentally broke the connection that the headphone plugs into the mainboard when i was going to change out the battery. why i did this i dont know BIG mistake. the ipod is now in lock mode and i cant do anything with it. is there a fix for this where i can disable the lock. i probably would use it only with a car adapter to play through the radio and im not worried about using headphones with it. any suggestions please. I'd go on eBay and look for a broken ("for parts") iPod. You can probably get one for about $20. Then switch the back panel with your broken one. Ask the seller if it's ever been opened; you don't want one that's been damaged in the same way yours was. Unopened iPods are usually broken for the hard drive.
Make sure you get the same type. The connector to the back panel on the color screen 4th gen iPod is different from the b/w screen iPod. Also, some iPod are the thicker type with the larger hard drive, so you should get the same type.

i have the ipod nano 4th generation, and my click wheel doesnt work. I've had my ipod in my coat for a few days without knowing and im wondering if its because of the cold. my computer detects it and it turns on and off perfectly. the ipod is also in a very good condition.

Hey i have managed to download the Imovie for the Ipod touch 4th Gen, I can't seem to export or upload to youtube a 16:9 screen just a very thin screen. I don't have a apple mac, I have windows vista. I realise for some features you have to use a apple mac. So is there anyway that I can fix this problem, thank you for your time and patience.

Yes, if you get it fixes, the iPod will likely be erased. Apple will not repair your old iPod, they exchange it for a refurbished one and do not transfer data.

Ipad 4th gen headphone jack not working properly

Any ideas on this ?
Every time I put put my headphone jack in all I could hear is hiss sounds and when I try to maximize the volume I could hear the music but its too loud for me .
If I try to move my ipad 4th gen in stand it goes back normal , if I put it down or any other position I want to try it starts to give weird sounds again . ( plugged headphones )
It's my first time buying a tablet so I have little information about tablets and how to solve this .
Is it hardware or software issues or dust , it's been a week and half since I bought the ipad .
I'm quite satisfied with the buy but if it won't work well I guess I'm gonna be having a :( face .

I got a lot of fluff out of my 1st gen ipod Touch's headphone jack. The audio would be fine if I used my Apple headphones (but they have completely fallen apart, 3rd replacement set from Apple) but with third party headphones I had the same problem as you described.

My Nano (4th gen.) does not move or respond-staying on.

My Nano is frozen ON. The screen is on "connected-Eject before disconnecting". Help please.

Did you attempt a hard reset yet? To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
This may take one or two tries so don't give up hope too quickly.

IPod touch 32 g 4th gen video function not working properly

So I am having 2 major problems with my iPod. 1, is that it won't let me add videos of any format tO my iPod other than .mov files and frankly since I have over 100 different videos on m iPod it would be kinda annoying to have to convert each one one at a time. This hadn't started happening till the last iPod software update whicy happened around last weekend. My 2nd problem is that my videos are not orginizing properly. For example under my TV shows section I have a show that should only have 26 episodes in it. Instead it has around 80 episodes in it which consist of other tv shows I have added but my iPod does not recognize that they do not belong there. I keep my videos very organized by episode, show, season, etc and I don't know what to do. I've tried restoring my iPod and that didn't work.
My computer specs go as follows: thinkpad laptop, windows 7, latest iTunes and iPod touch software

The 'wrong sorted TV episodes' bug was the first thing I noticed on 4.2.1's video player. I'd say the whole media part is buggy as never before, at least for me. I absolutely agree with you and in addition to this (as I mentioned here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12686533#12686533) the swipe to delete function on both podcasts and videos seems to be broken, not deleting properly.
I'm also using Windows 7 (64-bit) for syncing, if anything could be related to Windows iTunes or Windows 7.

4th Gen scroll wheel not working

The wheel hasn't been working for the past couple days. It shows that its charging (at this very minute) but when I click the menu, or any other button it doesn't respond. If I slide the hold button over to the left, the backlight comes on, when I slide it back to unlock it, the light goes off, but still doesn't respond. I've restored it several times and it will work fine right after everything has synced back to the iPod, but a few minutes later it wont respond to anything I do.
I'm guessing it's dead...
Any ideas?

Sounds like your scroll wheel simply broke.
I know it doesn't appear to be working, but lets TRY a reset. Slide hold on and off, and hold Menu and center buttons for 6-10 seconds (an Apple logo should come up).

My Ipod nano (2nd gen.) is not working properly

While i was taking a walk i looked at my ipod and it was going through my music on its own. every second i waited it skipped to another song, i couldnt turn it off untill it got to the end of the list, so i just turned it off and left it in my pocket untill i got home. when i pulled it out of my pocket i tried to play some music but it wouldn't even play. every time i tried to skip ahead in the song it went to the next song. I have no idea as to the problem but if anyone who reads this knows please share your knowledge with me.

WHY ISN"T APPLE ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM???
It is very frustrating to read, over and over, that people are having the same problem, and are being told by Apple's techs that the problem doesn't exist.
Either we are all in a mass hallucination, or their techs are not in touch with reality - this many people, with the same problem, means there is a problem!

HT1386 I just reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8. After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes. My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem. Help!

Have you tried on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem?

TS1410 My iTunes will not recognize my iPod Nano 6th gen.   It has worked in the past and it works with my iPod 4th gen. I've gone through the troubleshooting steps as suggested, but still -- nothing. Now, what??

iTunes will not recognize my Nano 6th gen. as a device. It has been recognized in the past and iTunes does recognize my Nano 4th gen. The device connects to the Mac and charges allright. All of the functions on the Nano work but want to modify my music, I'm tired of the same songs etc.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.
