Nano 4th Gen won't boot

Ever since I updated to the latest firmware released by apple, my nano started having problems like random crashes and resets. But now the unit won't boot at all. Whenever I try to turn it one, I'm just greeted by the apple logo until the battery dies. I've restored it several times with no luck. iTunes would only recognize the device when it is in recovery mode.
Any suggestinons?

Hello Ares86,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
What restore mode are you selecting?  I recommend you restore as new with the most recent software, as is described in the restore step of the article below:

  • Nano (4th gen) won't turn on after reseting and I need itunes support

A couple of weeks ago, my family computer crashed when we were trying to install a sercurity program. The computer company sent us a disk to bring the computer back to its original state. (This was supposed to make the computer be like it just came from the factory when we first got it) The disks didn't work and we sent it to a local computer repair center where they fix stuff like this.
So anyways, now that the computer is back to when we first got it, I'm afraid that if I downlaod itunes, sign into my account, and plug my ipod into the computer that all my songs and PURCHASED songs will disappear and I will be out more than $200.
Now it's Oct. 30th and my ipod will not come out of sleep for anything. I've tried all of the things they offer on Apple's support webpage. I plugged it into my wall adapter and it's making a funny buzzing noise.
Please help me with these 2 issues I'm having.
    Thanks so much.

My 4th Gen iPod Nano won't turn on once it is off the USB cable. If it is connected to the iMac (iTunes 10.1 (54)) it works perfectly well (synchronizes, plays music). Have tried to reset it (holding the Menu and Center buttons) and to reset it to its original settings (current SW version is 1.0.4) and it still wont work.
    Any suggestions?

  • Ipod nano 4th gen won't synch with windows 7

I recently reset my windows 7 laptop. Ever since, itunes has not been synching with my 4th gen ipod nano. The device is being recognised and charges, but music would not synch. This wasn't too much of an issue for a while. But today I wanted to update my music so i tried updating itunes and restoring my ipod to factory settings and seeing if that helped. it successfully wiped the device, but will still not upload music. Whenever I click synch I begins the process but immediately states the synch is complete even though no music has been added. So now I have an empty ipod which cannot have any music put on it.

You probably need to set up automatic syncing.  If you do not set it up, it will still "sync" but it will sync nothing.
In iTunes 12, select the iPod so that you see its Summary settings screen (click the "device button" on horizontal bar).  In the iPod's sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  To the right is the iPod's Music settings screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This enables automatic syncing for songs.  Below that, if your entire iTunes library fits on your iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select what you want to sync from the lists below.  On convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library with songs just for the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  On the iPod's Music settings screen, find and select (checkmark) just those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your iPod with your selection(s) on the iPod's Music settings screen, and keeps it "in sync" automatically.

  • IPod 4th gen won't boot

Just today my iPod finally stopped booting up completely. For the past few months, it'll freeze, make loud buzzing noise through the headphones, and sometimes take forever or won't boot at all. At first I thought it was caused by temperature because these problems only occured when I expose it to the cold Canadian weather, or leave it on my desk for a extended period of time. (Room isn't heated when it happens.)
However, now it won't start at all. It'll start hanging at the apple logo and nothing else happens. Even if I plug it into a computer, it won't go past the apple logo. So I put it into disk mode and everything seem to be detected. All my music, notes, data, everything was in order. But after you restart it, it still hangs. Therefore, I tried restoring it a few times and that doesn't seem to fix it. I even tried downgrading it back to 1.0.3 (the version pre-installed when I got it) with no such luck. Is it a firmware issue because all of this started after I upgraded it? From that point, things just started getting worse and worse.
I'm running on a PC. Any help will be appreciated!

Update, I left it on over night and it'll still show that connect to power logo when the battery is dead. So hardware wise, I think it's working cause it'll go into disk mode, the computer can read what's on the device. But it still can't get past the apple logo.
    Please help!

  • IPod Nano 4th gen won't hold charge

I haven't used my iPod Nano in at least a year.  It died before I left it sitting there.  I've now learned this is poor battery care but never knew that before, obviously.  I know how to care for my iphone and MacBook but that's beside the point. I plugged it in for about three hours and it was on, synced to my MacBook iTunes, showed it was charging, but when I remove it, it dies and won't turn on.  It has yet to show the fully charged symbol, so I'm wondering if it'll ever do so/it will ever work without being plugged in anymore? Are there any good experiences with this? I figure if I haven't used it his long, ill live, but it's far more convenient than my iPhone for exercising and the car, and I kind of miss it and never really got my money's worth :/ I hope the battery isn't totally fried!

You can call Applecare and they can replace the battery a little cheaper than that.  I believe it is 79 bucks.  Have you tried restoring it?

  • IPOD Nano 4th Gen won't connect to my computer

I've changed the chord many times, i've uninstalled then reinstalled the real itunes, i've reset and put my ipod on flight mode but nothing works. The ipod will connect to every other computer but mine, my computer is a Windows HP w1907 and my ipod used to connect to it absolutely fine but then when i updated my itunes to the newest version, suddenly it won't connect which is really frustrating :/
    Please please help! Thank you!

    So you tried everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
Try connecting to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.

  • My Ipod Nano 4th gen click wheel won't work will apple be able to fix this?

My Ipod Nano 4th Gen's Click Wheel won't work.Is there a way that Apple can repair this for me and how much will it cost?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for the 16 GB one and $149 for the others. You can send it to Apple or exchange it at an Apple store
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Game won't sync with nano 4th gen

I bought iQuiz to my nano 4th gen and it clearly says that it is compatible with it, but it just won't sync. It won't even show up in the games tab. I've updated to the newest iTunes and I've updated the software on the nano but it still won't work.
What could I be doing wrong?

Does anyone from Apple ever read these forums and
offer support/help? It seems like this is more of
    a
forum to voice problems and have others second the
issues. At least I know there are others with the
same problem but none of us can seem to fix it.
Have you guys tried resetting your nano settings
    and
then tried to load the calendar at that point?
    That
is my next attempt at a solution.
I'm sure they don't WANT to read all these postings. I phoned for support for exactly this problem, and I was told in no uncertain terms that Apple "does not support this feature of the Nano Gen.2, or iTunes 7.0 software."
So who DOES support it? Certainly not Microsoft!
HP Pavilion   Windows XP   Outlook 2003 Calendar/Contacts

  • Itunes won't recognize my ipod nano 4th gen (or any other ipod) as a device

i've had my ipod nano 4th gen for as long as 4th gen's have been around.  never had a problem with it or itunes.  until now.  all of a sudden, when i plug my ipod in to sync the new music purchased, itunes doesn't even recognize my ipod.  "devices" never even comes up.  "sync ipod" under file isn't highlighted.  my ipod only shows as charging.  since this problem occurred, i've tried my husband's ipod and it isn't recognized.  i've used numerous cords in both USB ports.  i've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.  nothing is working!  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  • Ipod nano 4th gen stuck on apple logo even after restore

okay, i have an ipod nano 4th gen. it gets stuck on the boot logo, (apple logo) every time it tries to restart. i have rebooted, gone into the diagnostics, put it into disk mode, and even restored from there. the computer doesnt recognize the ipod unless in disk mode and no matter how many times i restore or reboot, it does the same thing every time. stuck. please help

Since you have the "exact" same problem, why don't you do any of the following:
If you have AppleCare and/or still under warranty, give them a call.  If not, take your iPod to your local Apple Store or AASP.  Let them properly diagnose the problem and provide you w/a repair estimate.
U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)
Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • IPod Nano 4th Gen - Stuck on Apple logo

After not using my iPod Nano (4th Gen. 4GB) for about 4 months, I try to turn it on to find it isn't responding. I figured it was completely dead, so I plug it into my computer to see an Apple logo appear on the screen, and I leave it to charge for about an hour. After charging, my computer still didn't register any usb device. When I disconnected it was stuck on the apple logo. After waiting for a while it was still on Apple logo.
So, I did some reading and put it into disk mode. Once in disk mode it was recognized by my computer, and I promptly restored it. After it was restored I reset the iPod. But, again it was still stuck at the Apple logo screen.
I have repeated this process three times, and each time I reset it after restoring in disk mode, the iPod is stuck at the Apple logo screen.
Any ideas as to why it is doing this?

his is not operating system-specific, but I want to get it on the record somewhere since I could not find the solution anywhere else.
Last week, my third-generation 30GB iPod refused to go beyond the Apple logo on startup. It would power up, flash as if trying to go to the menu, but instead it would just show the Apple again. I tried all the usual recovery methods: resetting (hundreds of times and a couple of different ways), disk scans from the diagnostic menu, restoring with the latest iPod software and with an older version, fsck, using Disk Utility to repair and erase, Disk Warrior, letting the battery drain, everything.
Nothing worked ... until I used Disk Utility to reformat the disk with the "Zero Out Data" option (in the Security pop-up) enabled. This, apparently, reformatted the drive in such a way as to account for bad sectors. It took about an hour.
After that, I restored it with the latest iPod software, and to my delight, it booted normally. It now works fine.
Found that on web mite help you.... but i dont have a mac

I have a problem with the headset of my ipod nano 4th gen. the right side don't have a sound. It comes in and out.  what do I need to do.. I am using the original headset eversince. I tool it to a Apple Mac Cennter and Taked with a Service Center Rep. And he told me that they can't do anything because they don't repair the ipod they didn;t even look at it. I was told instead to buy a new one. I was very disappointed.. This is already my 5th ipod though i am planning to buy a new one.. I still want it fixed so I can give it to my little sister

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • IPod nano (4th gen) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.3

I have an iPod nano (4th gen). After upgarding iTunes to v 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro) I get the follwoing message:
iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.
Unfortunately, I restored to factory settings, which erased everything, but each time I connect the iPod I get the same message.
It must be an issue with compatibility because I get the same message with my wife's iPod (same gen), but hers syncs just fine on her iTunes (v 10), and I get the same message using two different USB cables.
So now my iPod is essentially empty (factory settings) and as good as a paperweight unless there is a way to get iTunes to recognize and sync. If I could get past the error message, I suspect it would be easy to sync automatically or manually.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi JMfromMN,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod isn't recognized by your computer, this article may help:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Since your wife's iPod displays the same behavior omn your computer, it sounds like the troubleshooting for the iPod itself (which you've largely already done anyway) can be skipped.
    Cheers,
