Nano 4th generation

Have just bought a Nano 4th generation ( 2nd hand) from a Ebay seller. Was an upgrade from the Ipod Shuffle , and i bought it as it holds more music as that is all i want it for , as i walk a lot.
Anyway am having loads of trouble with it , everytime i set it up to play i then put it into my pocket and start walking and it just suddenly does a squiggly noise and changes to another record , or it will play a record and keep missing words out . Think i have finally sussed out how the volume works , but that took a few times of messing around with it.
Also i find ( unlike the shuffle) that it is temperamental about what ear phones it has plugged into it. It can be at a nice volume with one set but with another the songs are barely audible to my ears.
Any help would be gladly accepted.
     Thank you.

Hello wight original,
For the songs skipping when you walk, take a look at the settings and turn off Shake to Shuffle. It will be in Settings > Music and the option is a toggle switch to turn off. Also go into your settings and look for Sound Check to make the songs have a very similar volume. Everything thing you need is in the articles below to further help you out.

  • How do I manually transfer music from my MAC to my iPod Nano (4th Generation)?

Recently, I have encountered a problem when trying to drag and drop songs and playlists from my Mac to my iPod Nano (4th Generation). I click on the file in my iTunes Library window but it won't allow me to copy it to my iPod. I've restarted both my Mac and my iPod but it hasn't helped. Do I need to download an update?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do I need to download an update?
Use Software Update to update iTunes if needed.  Read the iTunes/iPod Summary page to find out if your iPod Nano needs any updates which you can download from there.
You cannot drag & drop anything to an iPod Nano.  You must sync - Syncing Music to iPod

  • I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup. How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation back onto the new hard drive on my pc.

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.
    Help!

No backup is a huge mistake.

  • My ipod nano, 4th generation, is not being recognized by my computer or itunes

my ipod nano, 4th generation, is not being recognized by my computer or itunes, what do i do? I've tried using different cords, but nothing will pick it up.

I am experiencing the same issue.  I have Mavericks with updated iTunes, reset both, not detected

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists

Sounds like the battery is shot and in need of a replacement.  You can have Apple replace the battery for a flat fee or you can send it into a third party repair center for a bit less.
Not much else you can do for troubleshooting this one.

  • My Ipod nano 4th generation will not charge or turn on! Please help

I bought a refurbished Ipod nano 4th generation 2 weeks ago from a good reliable ebay seller. It arrived and was in great working order with no issues what so ever. However this evening I realised it was out of battery, so I went to charge it and nothing. No light up, no recognition of it being plugged into the PC or when I try via a plug socket. I have contacted the seller about this asking for a refund as I have not done anything or put it anywhere that it would die like this. However I thought before I try to send it back I would try here and see if anybody knows what may be wrong with it.
    Thanks

    Hi lundjj,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may find the troubleshooting steps in this article helpful if your iPod nano does not appear in iTunes:
    iPod not appearing in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3716
This information can also help if you are using multiple devices with a computer:
iPod for Windows: Connecting multiple iPod devices to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3622
Although FireWire and USB connections will allow multiple iPod devices to be connected to the computer at the same time, iTunes for Windows works best with only one iPod connected at a time. If you plan to connect multiple iPod devices to the same computer, eject any iPod devices that you are not using from iTunes.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • HT1339 I have an IPOD Nano 4th Generation 8GB and need to restore to factory settings as want to sell it; however it will not reset and when plugged into my MAC it says firmware corrupt? CAn anyone shed light on what i can do to overcome this issue?

I have an IPOD Nano 4th Generation 8GB and am unable to restore it back to factory settings even when it is connected to my MAC.  I have tried the menu/select hold but is not doing anything.  When connected to the MAC and select restore in itunes it comes up with 'Firmware Corrupt'.  It also states the IPOD is up to date.  I have the latest operating system on my MAC and wonder if this may be part of the issue?
Can anyone shed light as to what i can do to reset it back to factory settings as would like to sell it and ensure it is ready for the new owner.
    Thanks

  • Nano 4th Generation Bricked iTunes 11.1.4.62

    iPod Nano 4th Generation
    Windows 7 SP1
    iTunes 11.1.4.62
    Battery 100%
Was in the middle of restoring Nano when iTunes 11.1.4 spit out an error and stopped restoring.  Unable to hardreset using click wheel.  Uninstalled iTunes and associated software, rebooted and installed new iTunes 11.1.4.62 with out success.  Windows 7 identifies Nano as  Apple mobile device (driver 6.0.9999.65 dated 12-12-2012).
Plugged Nano into USB power without any success.  Tried different USB ports, no success.  Cable works, so..at this point I am stuck, any constructive ideas would be appreciated.

I have received an ipod nano, 4th generation from a friend whose daughter is upgrading.  I gave it to my 8 year old, and he wants some games on it.  How do I buy Sonic and other games for it?  When I went to the itunes store, there didn't seem to be any way to find click wheel games.

You don't.  Apple stopped selling ( or app makers quit making)  click wheel games some time ago.
