Nano 6G not syncing played podcasts

I have a nano 6g with the most recent firmware and Windows 7 PC with the most recent iTunes. My nano used to sync the podcasts I listened to on the nano as played and then download new ones. I now have to do it manually in iTunes. Please correct the syncing mechanism on the nano 6g with iTunes. This is really irritating, because it's hard to remember by title which podcasts I've listened to.
Thanks.

i first tried a simple complete uninstall then reinstall of iTunes, but i noticed during the install that when the installer got to the stage of installing Apple Mobile Device Support, it would stop and then say 'rolling back action' and the loading bar would move backwards, before installing the rest of iTunes as normal. hence, AMDS was still uninstalled and my iPod still wasn't being recognized by iTunes.
On rare occasions on Windows XP systems, I've seen that effect produced when there are old files/folders for the netaapl.sys and usbaapl.sys drivers stuck down in your Windows Operating system folders. If that's afoot, the following (somewhat involved) procedure may be of some assistance:

  • IPod nano - does not sync some songs in full

There are a number of songs from my iPod library that would not transfer in full to my iPod - they stop playing in the middle or a few seconds into the song. Tried restoring the iPod and uploading the songs again - the problem remains and it is related to exactly the same songs. The songs are from genuine CDs.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

In your case...the nano can not sync Videos or Games. You may see playlists on your iPod for these but they are just playlists that iTunes synced to the Nano. If you look at the info for video games under the "iPod + iTunes" section you will see a note that states only 5th Gen Video iPods can play the games purchased in iTunes. Also, only Video iPods can play videos at this time.

Wow .... so you are syncing via WiFi when you sync .... would that be correct?
I would still quit iTunes and then restart and see what happens. The iPad and iTunes must be playing some weird games.
If you do sync via WiFi (I do), I think you are better off closing iTunes when you are done - unless of course you are using iTunes for Home Sharing or something like that. My experience is that if you leave iTunes running, the iPad and iTunes just start sending weird signals back and forth.
Since I started Wifi syncing, I have seen messages in iTunes that made absolutely no sense at all. Anyway, that's my take on it. If you do not WiFi sync, then I have no clue why you are getting these messages.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • HT1414 My Nano will not sync with iTunes.

Nano will not sync with iTunes.  I get an error to retry or to reinstall.  I've tried most of the troubleshooting suggestions on the website.  I have not reinstalled.  My iPhone and iPad both sync with no issues.  The computer recognizes the Nano.  Is reinstalling my only option?  This started when I tried to update my devices with new music.  I noticed the error the next morning before my run and my Nano all the sudden had no music.  Went to re-sync and I received the error.

It could be a number of issues, such as the soddering that connects the 30-pin adapter that then connects to your computer could have come loose. However that is unlikely unless you have dropped your device a lot. But for anyone to be of more assistance you will need to provide more information. Such as: does the divice still show up in iTunes? If not then you may have to put it into DUF mode, or you could bring it in to your nearest apple store and see how much help they can be. Caution: once in DUF mode you should be able to restore the device to its orginal settings and the newest software, but you will have to re-sync your libary, redo all of your selections ect. unless you have a local backup on your coumputer which you should be able to acess by [option]-click the restore button and selecting the latest backup, (at least I believe its [option]-click).
    Hope this helps.

  • My nano does not sync all the checked songs in my library. Can this be corrected?

My nano does not sync all the checked songs in my library. Can this be corredcted?

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer or set up via wifi? If so you can only use the manual method and that only works with music and videos.

My 6th generation nano will not sync music from itunes anymore.

could you give us a bit more detail on the situation, Eeve?
is it that the songs say that they're transferring, and appear on the ipod screen in itunes, but when you unplug the ipod they aren't on there? or is something a bit different going on?
(if you're getting an error message, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Not marking played podcasts

Latest software upgrade fixed the issue of playing one podcast then stopping...big improvement. Now played podcasts remain marked as unplayed on the Nano but when I sync with iTunes, iTunes seems to know which podcasts were played and marks them correctly.

This was the way podcasts worked in all iPods since the beginning and how many used it. It made more sense to play individual episodes in the Podcasts section and adding them to playlists for sequential playback. Many used it this way for years to play individual episodes from the Podcast section when they didn't want all the episodes marked as played. This was the reason I no longer use my touch for podcast listening. Playlists and smart playlists are a better option for sequential playback due to their automation and customizability. Smart Playlists can easily gather up new episodes of different podcasts creating a virtual "radio station".
Now to play an individual podcast episode at bedtime I must make a separate playlist for one episode and do clean up afterwards. One step backwards if you ask me. Now you see lots of complaints here as to why the podcasts are not stopping. A better fix would have been to add an option for sequential playback in the iPod's Podcasts section.

  • My iphone will not sync certain podcasts

For some reason after the last Itunes update I have a few podcasts that will not sync, They are professsional podcasts that I have been subscribed to for years, and currently subscribe to other podcasts by the same producers that work fine.
The podcasts download to my macbook just fine, but when I sync they don't appear on the phone, when I view the podcast list on the phone from my macbook, they appear to be there but are greyed out and have a dotted circle like they are being loaded. They stay like that and there doens't seem to be anything I can do to get them to actually copy to my phone. Ive tried rebooting both devices and reloading the podcasts nothing works. Other podcasts continue to load and play fine.
The offending podcasts are the adam and drew show, episode 42, Wiretap: it's all been done. Under the influence:Nothing In Common: How Hollywood Portrays Ad People.
I'm not sure if anyone out there can help me, but if you have any insight I would appreciate it.

It is there. You need to substitute whatever your user name is where it says {YourUserName}. So if the user name that you log in with is "doofus" you would open Windows Explorer and enter "c:\" in the address bar,
You then find the folder Users and double-click on it. Next find Doofus and double-click on it. Then AppData and double click. Then Roaming and double click. Then Apple Computer and double click on it. Then MobileSync and double click on it. Finally Backup and double click on it.
    Alternatively, you could just enter
    C:\Users\{Doofus\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    in the address bar.
You may have to set the option to Show Hidden Files first in Folder Options.

  • New IPOD Nano will not sync.  iTunes recognizes it, I think.  It knows its there and says I can transfer purchases from it but it will not let me sync it to my existing itunes.

I received a new IPOD nano for CHristmas.  Itunes shows it there on summary, it is showing with the eject symbol.
However, when I go to file/sync, it allows me to transfer purchases but not sync it.  It also does not show up in my playlist like my older NANO does.
I have reset, I have toggled security on and off.  I am current on the software on both my IPOD and ITunes.

I was having the same problem...plugged in my new device and although I was able to set it up and it was recognized in iTunes, hit the sync button and nothing...even when it said it was syncing, still nothing. I am not sure this will work for you but I did two things that were suggested in this forum in combination with one another.
First, I plugged my Nano into different USB port on my laptop from the one I was using. when I reconnected, my devie again was displayed in the top right corner. I clicked on it and the summary page appeared. The one thing I hadn't done is go to the "music" tab. When I arrived there I found that the "sync music" tab was unchecked for some reason. I checked the block and instantly the download started.
As I said, I don't know if you have tried this or if it will even work for you but after an hour of frustration...I felt a little silly that it was something so simple I had negelected and thought I would share.
    Good  luck!

  • IPod Nano 6g not syncing - Apple Mobile Device Support can't install

i recently got iTunes working again on my computer. my grandfather wanted me to sync his old iPod Nano, so i did that and it worked fine. i then tried to sync my own iPod Nano 6g, and it gave me the error:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
i tried reconnecting the iPod, of course, and then tried reinstalling iTunes, but the same error kept coming up. if i closed iTunes, then connected the iPod, i could find it in My Computer, but after opening iTunes it would give me the error and eject itself. i then tried all the stuff outlined here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ituneshelp/?kbase=TS1363&viewlocale=en_US
but that didn't help. i tried plugging the iPod into the USB ports at the back of the computer, but nope.
i soon discovered that Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't running or installed on the computer, and that that may be the source of the problem. however, i looked in my C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple folder and there was a Apple Mobile Device folder. it didn't appear complete, though, as there wasn't the 'bin' folder needed to run AMDS properly. i renamed this Apple Mobile Device folder, adding an 'OLD' at the end, so as to not interrupt any times i would try to install AMDS in this folder properly.
i first tried a simple complete uninstall then reinstall of iTunes, but i noticed during the install that when the installer got to the stage of installing Apple Mobile Device Support, it would stop and then say 'rolling back action' and the loading bar would move backwards, before installing the rest of iTunes as normal. hence, AMDS was still uninstalled and my iPod still wasn't being recognized by iTunes.
i tried extracting the iTunesSetup.exe file, and then running the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi file separately, but it would give me the same rolling back action thing and it would end in 'installation interrupted, system was not modified, please try again later'. tried disabling my anti-virus then installing iTunes, then disabling my anti-virus and running the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi separately but nothing was different.
please help. why is Apple Mobile Device Support not installing? and is this actually the reason why my iPod is not syncing with iTunes? any insight would be appreciated. thanks.
