Nano 6g, v1.2, pedometer bug

What times do I need to manually stop the pedometer in order to retain data?
I'm running the pedometer as always on.  Today I did a fourty-five minute workout and the walk data from last night to before the workout wasn't saved. It doesn't show in history or in my daily totals.  Also, the workout did not add to my daily steps.
As info:
This is a new mc525ll.
I'm using a PC with disk access enabled.
I shutdown itunes and put the PC in sleep mode without ejecting the iPod
I disconnected the iPod this morning without waking the PC.

Still loosing steps.  I never turned the pedometer off once and I only got 140 steps yesterday.  (7:06 am to 7:45)
The times shown on those steps was the time I had it on a 3rd party charger.
That night I did not charge it or sync it - I let the nano do all the work and it didn't do anything.
I guess it's time to start taking detailed notes of when it loses step data.  There are holes in past days too.
Ie:
Tuesday: 2 entries
1) 6:24am - 9:15am 497steps
2) 5:10pm - 11:48pm 1,4782 steps =
What happened to the middle? I didn't charge it at dinner time or anything?
Is it a lame accelerometer that falls asleep?  I sit from 8-5 but I still got up and went out to eat, use the bathroom, etc.
The device return period is almost over so if this is defective I hope someone replies soon.
1) End of day does NOT add workout steps to daily steps.
2) Still testing.

  • Pedometer Bug

I've been using my pedometer function on my 6th gen iPod Nano for about a week, and it's been doing something weird. Every time I have the pedometer running and the clock rolls past midnight, it will suddenly rack up 3,000 - 4,000 steps. It's even happened when I've left the iPod sitting on my desk with the pedometer on. At first, I thought it was the result of vibrations from my back-up HD, but it's happened when the iPod was in my pocket.
Here's what the results look like from today and tonight:
    4,338 steps
    Fri October 22, 2010
    Duration 8:08'53"
    Start Time: 3:40 p.m.
    End Time: 11:49 p.m.
    Calories 195
    4,606 steps
    Sat October 23, 2010
    Duration 7"10'
    Start Time 12:02 a.m.
    End Time 12:09 a.m.
    Calories 207
There is no way I walked 4,606 steps in 7 minutes. Also, what is happening to the 13 minutes between 11:49 p.m. and 12:02 a.m.? I did not turn the pedometer program on and off during that period. I can understand if the pedometer would end a recording period at 11:59:59 p.m. and started a new one at 12:00:00 a.m., but thirteen lost minutes?
Clearly, this is some kind of software bug. It's like Y2K or something.

I have the same problem. The first time it happened, it was about 15 minutes past midnight. I went to check my daily total and noticed it was way too high. On 10/23, I had around 4,600 steps just before midnight. A few minutes after midnight, it jumped up to 8,396 steps. After that, I tried to be diligent in hitting the stop button before it turns midnight (and my real numbers turn into a pumpkin). However, last night, I failed to click the stop button before midnight and it increased my numbers again. In the history, it appears to show two distinct sessions (even though the stop button wasn't hit on either occasion). I have similarly silly results - the second post midnight session from last night says that I took 8K+ steps in about 10 minutes.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen and pedometer don't work together.

I am a first time iPod owner and bought a new 16 Gb Nano 5th Gen recently. Have been using it during a 5 Km walk every morning.
When the pedometer is operating in the background, the music plays back slowly and on some sounds like bass drum thumps there's a trrr that shouldn't be there.
The speed of playback is not consistently slow, if I hold iPod steady in my hand it plays normally then starts tp "play up" when walking. all is normal when I turn the pedometer off and just listen - on the same walk.
Anyone seen this before?? I haven't tried to reset since I bought it new and began using it like above the next day so I am thinking this is some design problem rather than something that can be fixed. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. rgds. Viber

    Thanks deggie,
That's good to know. i thought there might have been a design fault.
I called Apple and they adviced me to do the standard reset. I.e. top switch back and forth and "Menu" + "Centre" buttons. Then the funny thing was, they insisted on me going out of the house for a 5 minute walk. All seemed fine when using pedometer and listening to music. I did think about resetting but since it was only a day old thought - what is there to reset??
Anyway, tomorrow morning will be the real test, all is looking good so far, fingers crossed. rgds Viber

  • IPod nano 2nd generation sound check bug

Every time I sync my 2nd generation 4Gb iPod nano with my computer to add songs to it, the sound check option becomes turned off, but it says it is still on. My iPod software is the latest version (1.1.3). Sound Check is turned on in iTunes, and I had it turned on in my iPod's settings menu before syncing. Turning it off and back on in the settings on the iPod after syncing re-enables sound check, but it turns back off every time I sync. I have also tried resetting and restoring the iPod nano, but it still has this problem. A third generation iPod nano used on the same computer doesn't have this problem. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong when syncing (auto sync, disk use enabled)?

This problem is also happening with my ipod, except the sound check function doesn't even work! My brother in product design says it could be a problem with the volume control chip in the ipod.

  • Ipod nano 7th gen problems synching

    hello,
for the past 2 days, I have been battling an ipod nano synching issue. This ipod has been working flawlessly for the past year. And then all of the sudden, without warning, I tried to add additional music and I could not. I cannot remember the exact syntax of the error but it had something to do with the ipod not being recognized and required a restore to factory.
I have corrected the first issue where the ipod was not recognized and had to be factory restored. Each time I restored, it would not be recognized by itunes.
I installed itunes on another pc and the same ipod synched and reconnected just fine, pointing back to the itunes install on my primary machine.
I resolved the first issue on my primary machine by following ht1923.
However, now the problem I see is that even though the ipod connects successfully , to my primary machine , when I synch and add music, no music shows up on the ipod even though itunes says synch successful. The ipod says "no music".
    ipod serial number: C8NJRFX4F0GV
my primary pc is an HP Elitebook, running windows 7 professional 64 bit version
All itunes software completed removed and reinstalled clean.
    Thank you

I would like to chime in that I've confirmed this as a reproducible bug on my iPod Nano 7th generation. I have an iTunes library with an offending compilation, and to avoid any possible tagging incompatability, I've converted the files to AAC with clean tags containing the album, artist, title, and track number. The album artist is "Various Artists" and I've checked off the "Part of a compilation" box for each track in my library.
These tracks all show their correct artists when I sync this library to my iPhone. However, when I sync the exact same tracks to my iPod Nano 7th Gen, it choose a random artist from amongst all the artists within the compilation and shows that artist name on *every* track.
iPod Nano 7th Gen has a bug in the firmware for displaying artists correctly when they are part of a compilation. The OP is likely doing nothing wrong. Apple needs to issue new firmware. Alternatively, I cannot think of any decent workaround short of splitting off each track of the compilation into a separate album, which, would be a huge pain and likely impractical for most people.

  • Cover Flow view bug

Is there a better place than this to submit bug reports to Apple?
Problem: Multiple albums named the same (i.e. Greatest Hits) by different artists have problems in Cover Flow view. The albums have separate cover art, but when selecting the album to look at songs in the album, all songs on every album named the same show up. This can't be what Apple had in mind, since in iTunes, the Cover Flow view sort default is "Album by Artist", and it's not a problem seeing other artists albums named the same. This is also a problem in Album view, where there is only one entry for all albums named the same (i.e. Greatest Hits).
Solution? Add secondary search criteria (artist) for both Cover Flow and Album views. This way, each album is a separate entry (album view) and has only the correct songs (cover flow view).
Love the Nano 3rd gen, but this bug is very blatant and should have been fixed prior to release. Apple, please fix it. I don't want to have to rename all my albums "xxxxxxx's Greatest Hits"!

Quick follow up. Is there a setting in the Nano to fix this (sort by option)?

  • IPod Nano Screen Lock bug

I think I have discovered a bug in the iPod Nano software. I'm using the latest software available as for today.
I lock the iPod Nano's screen and as expected, the graphical display of a combination lock appears. I insert the iPod Nano on to the Universal Dock and then proceed to control the Nano from the Apple Remote. It works partly. I am able to pause and play music and after a song finishes, it goes to the next one. I am not, however, able to fast forward, rewind, or skip tracks. I am able to play and pause, plus the Nano goes to the next track automatically after it finishes play the current one.
Seems to me a bug! I would imagine that the screen lock is supposed to lock all kinds of control to the iPod except entering password.

connect it to itunes and it will unlock

  • Nano 3rd Gen Graphical Bug

When going from song lyrics to coverflow, a bug often occurs where the whole screen either goes green, or the coverflow is shifted up or to the right.
    http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=475025
    Pictures and details on there.
To fix it, I simply just go out of coverflow. I am upgraded to 1.03 and it only does to going from Lyrics to Coverflow, when youve gone past lyrics at least twice.

I normally go from the top of the list first:-
    1. Battery
    2. Flash drive
    3. Logic board

my new ipod nano only shows "pedometer" and "history" on the fitness screen. How do i find the run icon so i can measure distance when i work out?

Try to hook up your nano to your computer and choose the dialog box to update your software.  The current version is 1.2 which allows distance to be calculated once you input your height (and weight).

  • IPod Nano 6th Generation Pedometer

I have a brand new iPod Nano 6th Generation, which has the built in Pedometer into it. For some reason, when I go to use it with Nike+ and syncing it to iTunes it doesn't work. None of the Walks I have done actually go onto the Nike+ website. Nike+ claims I have no devices.
I have it set to Automatically Send to Nikeplus.com
I already have a Nike+ account, and I have alone tried to sync walks. It claims there sync'd, and I click Visit Site, but it takes me to http://nikeplus.nike.com/plus/?token=blahblah=2&wtype=pedometer, but then I click around and there are no devices.

    I have a nano6.
I am not able to synchro.
But reading Nike guide on the nano6 I have found that, you can read it on this discussion:
    ipod nano and nike plus
    or :
“Nike+ Active is taking a break.
The site will be down while we move to the new Nike+. Your steps, runs and gym workouts are safe and sound. When Nike+ Active returns this fall, your data will be there -- on a platform that lets you do more than ever before. Thanks for conquering the world with us, and, in the meantime, check out the new Nike+.”
Is this the answer? It is so...big that I am not even convinced. Have they closed the site for 2 month or more just to develop a new site!?

  • BUG: Nano Calendar Sync

I've found a bug with syncing calendar between my Mac and Nano.
In iCal, I have some calendars with a colon (":") in the title. These are not synced to my Nano. Renaming the calendars to remove the colon allows them to sync properly.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Check the format of your Nano. Is it HFS+ or FAT32

  • Weird Bugs with new 4th Gen Nano

I've been getting weird bugs only a week after I bought a 16GB Orange 4th Generation iPod Nano on ebay New of course. First off, while at school the other day, it shut off and the apple screen showed for about 30 seconds. Then none of my 600 songs would play. However, I reset the ipod by pressing the center button and menu and holding them down for a few seconds. What do you think is wrong? Thank you so much.
    John

I just bought a PURPLE 4th Gen Nano 8gig, and I have been having the same problem. If I skip to the next song more than 4 times, the Nano shuts off and reboots. I did have one particular song, when "played," that was causing it to shut down, so I removed it. I did not attempt to re-sync it. Now, if I skip to next track more than 4 times, it shuts down and reboots. This happens a few times a day. Depending on my mood, I may not want to listen to Rock tracks that day, so I skip them to get to my R&B tracks. Some days I want to listen to DANCE tracks. So, for clarity's sake, I do tend to skip songs a lot. But that should not be cause for constant reboots, from any MP3 player. It certainly was never a problem for my Sandisk Sansa e280, that I owned before switching to iPod.
Another item that bothers me is that my tracks are not all in alphabetical order. Or rather, I should say, they are listed alphabetically in multiple sections. Out of 1500+ songs, there are approx. 20 sections of A-Z. For example: If you scroll through the song list A-Z, you will not find Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy." But after Z, the list "continues" A-Z again!! But "Nature Boy" is not in that list either. The list continues on AGAIN, A-Z... and viola, there is "Nature Boy." In the THIRD section of A-Z of the song list. Anyone, have a clue as to WHY the entire library of music is not listed alphabetically? But rather parceled out in sections?? None of the tracks are repeated, each section of A-Z contains different tracks!! It makes finding a song you are wanting to hear, a real chore!! And is NOT indicative of a world class company, nor a world class product.
And before anyone reads off their teleprompter as to how "I should check to see that my computer is blah, blah, blah......" It IS up-to-date. Every driver, every piece of software, every security definition, every release, every add-on. I spent an entire weekend making absolutely POSITIVE that THAT issue was resolved. Vista SP1, Windows Defender, IE7, Firefox 3, iTunes 8, eve-ry-th-ing!! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I'm looking for a little thing called "real answers." Thanks.

  • Always on pedometer for Nano 6G?

I have a Nano 5g and use the always-on pedometer feature to count my steps daily. I recently bought my wife a 6G nano so she could use the pedometer the same way. She told me recently that she has to manually turn the pedometer on every day, which is a pain. I tried going through the menus to find the always on setting only but I couldn't find it. Is there a way to add the always-on feature to the 6G nano?
Also, I have to say after using my wife's Nano 6G I really preferred the click-wheel version. The touchscreen is too fiddly for my fingers. Please bring back the touchwheel and the camera in the 7G nano.

I just learned the same after placing my Nano 6G on the dock. Very disappointed in Apple. The dock is used to play music on my stereo. But also to charge.

  • BUG: - iPod Nano Software - Clock - Arizona no longer in MST

This is a pretty simple one. Since Arizona started observing Daylight Savings time, they also now observe PST clocks which the iPod Nano software does not reflect.
I'm willing to bet this is a bug across more products than just the iPod Nano software.

I'd be willing to bet that Apple considers the
updated behavior to be the "Correct" behavior.
According to the Apple Nano Features Guide:
"Turn on backlight - If the backlight timer is set to Off, press and hold Menu to turn on the backlight"
I would argue that the issue I am experiencing after update is not the correct behavior. Every iPod made, save the shuffle, functioned this same way: hold the menu button for 1-2 seconds to enable backlight.
