If you do not find a solution in the iPod nano (6th generation) - User Guide, suggest that you call AppleCare if still under warranty or take a trip to your local Apple Store or AASP.

Did the battery run out of power?  If not, try doing a Reset to "reboot" the iPod

  • Nano just stopped working???

My ipod has just stopped working. I was listening to it this morning and there was more than enough charge in it. I go to turn it on now and nothing, checked to make sure it was not locked and still nothing. Connected it up to the computer and it doesn't even see it as and external device - it's just dead. I only purchased this ipod less than 60 days ago. I did have a weird thing happen about 2 weeks ago as well.......the music stopped and all the pictures were scrambled lines all the graphics on the ipod were gone. I did manage to reset and re sync with my computer that time, but I'm thinking maybe I got a lemon? How do I go about getting this issue resolved? Looking forward to anyones suggestions. BTW I did try to take it back to Walmart where I purchased it and they won't take it back after 10 days what a bunch of crap.

Just got this from some else's question about a dead ipod and this worked...Thanks glad I visited the site.
You may need to reset it. So first thing to try is...
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.
See this thread as an example of what I mean by needing to try it many times...

  • Help, my iPod Nano just stopped working

Help I've had my iPod nano 7th generation for about 6 months now.  It's always worked fine until one day after charging it, it will no longer turn on.  It does get hot when I try to charge it or reboot it (reboot using the home and on/off button together).  Can anyone please help?

    Hi AliPe!
I have a website that I believe will help you troubleshoot this issue. The website is an iPod troubleshooting assistant, and it can be found right here:
Apple - Support - iPod nano - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/assistant/itunes/
Just follow the troubleshooting steps suggested by that website and you should be on the right track. Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • My nano spontaneously stopped working...

Ok so the other day I go and plug my nano into my computer to charge it right before I go to bed, I wake up the next morning and try to eject it but the nano isn’t even on the computer, all its doing is displaying the black and white apple logo like its starting up. I unplug it and try different button combinations to get the thing to start working but it won’t react at all to anything I try (yes I checked to see if it was on ‘hold’). Any ideas?

Well, I finally managed to make it work. This is how I did it:
First of all reset the Ipod (you know, press Menu and Select at the same time for a few seconds). Then, just after the reset, when you see the apple, press Select and Play at the same time. Now you should see "Disk mode" or something like that on your screen. Now you can plug it to your PC and try to update/restore the system.
Before I restored it, I copied my music to the PC. After that, I restored without a problem.
    Hope it works for you!

  • Ipod nano screen stopped working

Has anyone had this happen?, My nanao worked absolutely fine Friday and when I picked it up today it wont turn on at all!  Itunes recognizes it and I did a full reset, but nothing!  My Iphone did this last week also!  No injury to either one and fully charged.  At a loss as to what to do.

So the iPod does not appear to power on, but it's recognized by iTunes?  It seems like the backlight on the Nano make actually have burned out.
Take a flashlight and shine it on the nano's LCD display.  Do you see any signs of life from the screen?  There is a good chance that the backlight for the Nano has gone out and is in need of replacement, which will require you to replace the entire LCD.  You can choose to have Apple swap out the Nano for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair center to have them swap out the bad part for a little less.

  • 3rd generation nano suddenly stops working. Has anyone had this happen to them?

The device will turn on and I can use the turn wheel to increase/decrease the volume on the screen only. No music plays when I plug in the ear buds, and I can't select a particular song/artist from the playlist. My computer recognizes the nano and will allow me to add songs to the playlist. I just can't play, change or hear them!! Please help!!
    Thank you!!

Have you tried restoring your iPod to factory settings?

  • HT1320 iPod Nano 6th stops playing after about 1.5 minutes

I listen to long poscasts. After about 1.5 minutes, the play stops. I've updated, reset. No success.
Related, my headphones no longer control volume or pause.
    What should I try next?
    Thanks

I read the answer on this forum.
The jack receiver was cluttered with pocket lint. Use a needle to help you pick/tap/blow the stuff out.
When it could not detect the headphone jack, the iPod turned off. Once the jack was detected (with the clean receiver) , everything good.

  • Nano 5G stopped working

I was watching a video when it crashed, wont allow me to reset, but can still here clicking sound, any answers?

Dumb question but is the battery okay? If it doesnt need slightly charged to start it up first, did you do a reset "press menu and center button till apple logo appears" (hold both)
If not a full reset thru itunes but then it'll have to resync the whole deal in itunes (all your stuff).
If not call apple may need service?

My 6th gen nano ipod stopped working. I figured it was because it was next to my sweaty body, so put it in rice. I sought help from internet and tried all of the troubleshooting steps; i.e pushing down the power button and the volume down button consecutively, plugging it in to a power source, waiting 10 minutes and pushing the buttons while it was plugged in. Nothing has worked thus far. Is there anything else that I can try?

    Hello J-Dub 181,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried resetting the iPod? If not, press and hold the Center and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If, you are still have issues after resetting the iPod, it may be best to restore the iPod via iTunes and start from scratch. Usually a restore can resolve these types of issues.
