Nano acting up...

My nano was working fine, but when I plugged it into the computer the screen froze, and is stuck in the hold position. What can I do to fix this? I've tried reseting it, changed the USB port, restarted my computer and updated my software. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • My nano acting up

My nano 6th gen not starting up after battery drain only work when i plug it in and power off when i take the charger off

So the iPod only powers on when connected to an external power source such as a USB port on your PC or Mac or when connected to a wall charger?  If so, that is a very good indication that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.
Apple can swap it out for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair service for a bit less.

  • 1 GB Zen Nano Plus DEAD since I tried to update firmw

My gb NANO PLUS was working fine but would only show track names and not artists, albums, track numbers and I wanted to show those.
I have Dell laptop Inspiron 600m, Win XP - plenty of memory ( gb) and HD and no prior problems. Before, when I plugged my NANO into USB, it always showed up. I'd
always click "Safely Remove Hardware" to disconnect. I'd bought same unit for wife & daughter and they've worked fine.
I assumed the no "artist/album" info problem was from my loading music from Windows Explorer or MusicMatch and not from Creative desktop unit - or firmware.
So I go to Creative Download site and find these exe files:CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2 (the desktop player, etc), MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250 (driver) and
    ZenNanoPlus_PCFW_LF__2_03 (firmware.
Desktop player loaded fine. Not sure about driver but I followed instuctions.
However, when it came to firmware, I followed instructions but now NANO acts DEAD. Screen on NANO is blank, it doesn't show up on Dell as USB devise or in Devise Manager (anywhere). I've changed battery and followed all FAQ advise. No help. The Creative download site instructions didn't say to format NANO so I didn't but later I see that one of the FAQs says to do that.
HOW DO I GET THE NANO WORKING AGAIN. And, when I do, how do I show track title, artist, album, track #, etc?

HOW DO I GET THE NANO WORKING AGAIN.
Try to reflash the firmware in recovery mode (see instructions on the firmware details page). Ignore the display, mine froze/turned off during a failed downgrade attempt, but the player still could be put into recovery mode and after the reflash it started working again.
And, when I do, how do I show track title, artist, album, track #, etc?
The player will only show the "Title" tag (or the filename if there aren't any ID3 tags). So the only way I can think of would be retagging the files, sticking the information you want into the title field.

  • Does the new nano sync appointments, and act as a watch alarm?

I'd like to use the new nano as a wristwatch, IF it will sync with my appointment calendar and act as a watch alarm.   Does it?

  • Ipod nano and photos acting all weird ?

i have an ipod nano im having trouble with the photos...ok i know how to put them on and all...i wont to be able to put a photo on my ipod then be able to delet it off my pc and still be on my nano but its not....???? it delets the photos from my nano as soon as i delet it from my pc and if i unplug it then delet it from my pc when i add new photos to my nano the old ones are gone..omg i dont think this will make sence to you hopefully it does thank you so much for you're help if you could help me in any way i would apreciate it.
    shannon. .

When you delete photos that are on your nano from your computer with your nano connected or connect it after deleting photos, the photos will be automatically removed from the iPod, since the photos are no longer in the folder that they were in the last time the iPod synced with the computer.
The problem with adding new photos sounds like it it caused by you selecting a new folder of photos to sync from each time you connect. For the old photos to stay on the Nano, you must use the same folder to sync new ones each time.
Just a note, I find it easiest to create a folder in "My Pictures" called something like "iPod Photo's". I then copy all the photos that I want on my iPod into this folder, and set the iPod up to sync from this folder. Photos can be deleted by simply removing the photo from this new folder, while it can still be on your computer main photo folder.

  • Nike Site Still Acting Strange and Trouble With Nano

I did a 5k last night, around 9:30 PM (it’s very hot here) and synced up around 10:30 PM. It showed up in my runs, but not in a challenge I am in. I checked this morning and it was there, but showed that I did it at 1:02 AM! I ran this morning and synced, but I can’t tell if it is there. Does the challenge admin site offer you more details than we get?
Nike also did some changes to the site, and it wiped one of my personal goals. To add more confusion, now my Ipod will reset it self while connected to my laptop. This causes all my workouts to be lost (on the Ipod) but it keeps the history. So far it has done it after I sent data to Nike, but I’m very nervous about losing one of my runs (it happened on my Monday morning run).

Owen...you keep losing data pls I'm just behind you
in the challenge...I estimate about 400 metres
I did lose one run, on the first day (my morning run) as far as I can tell. But the rest has posted since. I have lost the workout data on the Nano (last work out and such) after I sync to Nike.
As far as being just behind me, how is the view of my backside?

  • TS1382 my nano 2nd gen. is acting crazy..!!

it makes cliking sounds on its own (whether is on the base or on my hands),altering volume on its own,not allowing my to select songs (goes up and down the list on its own too, without stopping),or just go to the menu as I used to,not turning off every time.... a variety of issues...any suggestions, except to buy a new one, which will be last the resort? thanks

Have you tried doing any of the usual 5 R's of troubleshooting for your particular Nano to rule out the possibility of software corruption/glitches.

  • 2nd Gen Nano is acting up- sporatic response

I've had my green nano for about six months. I've had no issues with it until now. All of a sudden, it stopped responding to any command. Menu, Next, Previous, pause, and the click wheel did nothing. So, next, I tried restarting it.. no luck. I then resigned to restoring it. Even after I restored it, it made no sign of recognition. It was stuck on the language select page. So then I tried recharging it on my dock over night. It seems to have helped because the I regained temporary but poor control over the iPod. The clicker made an absurd amount of clicks per each movement and I could open any menu unless I held down to select button and moved the hold button right, arming it in hold mode. Then I could see the Settings folder for example, but it was on hold. The second I took it off of hold, it exited the folder.
This is extremely frustrating and I hope that there is help for the iPod.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Nano "Enter" button acting weird and restarting

    Hey -
So I've had my nano (4GB) for about 7 months now and its been great, but recently it's been restarting a lot randomly, that is, the screen goes black and the apple logo is shown before bringing me back to the main menu.
Yesterday after it restarted once, the enter button appeared to stop working, but I realized that it works on every function BUT entering the music menu. So for instance when it starts up I can go to Shuffle Songs, or play a game of solitaire, but if I go to click on the MUSIC menu, which would bring up the Artists, Songs, Albums, then the whole nano just restarts. It keeps doing it over and over and over. I have no idea what's wrong with it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks.

Sounds to me like you are having the same problem I had. I trouble shooted (trouble shot?) it and figured out that installing podcasts from the iTMS was causing the problem. This took me several instals, updates, etc. When I finally figured it out, I restored my nano with the latest update (at the time), kept the "drive" free of iTMS podcasts, and it has worked like a charm ever since.

  • My nano is acting weird

If I am playing music with my hold button "on" and then I try to turn the hold "off" the screen fades (no backlight) and the text is fuzzy; then any button I press the apple icon shows and it takes a while to begin working again. Anyone have the same issue??

how long have you had your ipod?
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/power/
just because the battery indicator is on red does not mean the battery is low - there can actually be many hours of life left in it - it takes some time for the battery indicator and the battery to synch up:

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • I have an ipod nano 6th generation and I am having serious problems updating it to version 1.2.

    Hi all,
I just got myself an ipod nano 6th gen like in july and i love it. But i have been trying to download the update and it always says there is a error- the internet connection timed out yet i can be doing other stuff with the internet at that time, Facebooking, downloading, watching videos so it's not the internet and this has happened alot.
When i first got my ipod, I was using a windows machine now i have a macbook and i wonder if that could be the problem because under format on the ipod it says windows...
Has this happened to anyone else? I really need some help...
Also, I have seen alot of complaints about the software update over the internet from other ipod nano users, if there is anyone who didn't get affected please let me know, I don't want to download it to only make my ipod act up....
    Thanks!!

Your nano would really have nothing to do with it at that point. It is really something between iTunes and whatever server out there on the internet that it is trying to connect to for the update.
Try posting this one in the iTunes forum, they might have a solution for you.

  • How to make Nano NOT appear on Mac desktop as connected drive when I plug in to recharge it? Just want charging, not syncing, and don't want to unmount drive each time.

    I have a 6th generation iPod Nano.
I almost exclusively use it as an FM radio and as a pedometer -- so far I have not loaded any songs onto it for listening, nor do I intend to in the future.
    Here's my problem:
When my Nano runs out of juice, I have to use the charging cord to plug it into to my iMac's USB port to recharge the Nano. However, whenever I do so, two different (unwanted) actions happened:
First, the act of plugging in the iPod auto-launched iTunes, for syncing. I solved this problem by finding the preference check box for launching iTunes when connecting an iPid, and UNchecking the box. That worked, problem solved.
However, the second automatic action is that the iPod appears as a connected drive on the iMac desktop, as any external device with a drive would appear when connected to any Mac. But I have no need for this to be happening -- I don't intend to upload anything to the iPod, nor to sync it, or whatever -- the only reason I ever connect the iPod to the iMac is to RECHARGE the iPod, not to tinker with the contents of what's on it.
The problem is, every time I then want to disconnect the charging cord, I have to manually "unmount" the iPod drive by dragging its desktop icon to the Trash, when then allows the "it is now safe to disconnect your external drive" state to obtain, allowing me to then unplug it without getting a warning message telling me I shouldn't have just disconnected a connected drive without first unmounting it.
This wouldn't be such a bother, except that the 6th generation iPod Nano has a new "feature" which makes it impossible to see how far along the charging is progressing while it is still in the act of charging. Thus, the only way to know if it is has become  fully charged is to unplug it, and look at the battery monitor. While is it still connected and charging, all that displays on the iPod is the "charging now" battery icon, which does not reveal just how the charging is progressing, or if it is fully charged yet. (My iPhone, by way of contrast, displays during charging a battery icon which reveals how far charged it is by that point.)
As a result of this Nano "feature," I often find myself having to connect and disconnect the Nano two or three or more times each time I'm charging it, so I can simply check how far along the charging has gotten, since I want to disconnect it as soon as it has finished charging and get back to using it.
But so far, I have not been able to find any kind of setting or preference which allow me to identify this device as one which I DON'T want to "mount" each time it is plugged in.
All I want to do is just plug in the iPod, and be able to unplug it, without having to to ANY shenanigans on the computer itself. Just plug in = recharging, unplug = not charging any more. Simple.
Question: is there any way to achieve this? Or is it simply not possible, and must I manually unmount the iPod's drive (more than once, usually) each time I plug it in for recharging?

I should also point out that when I connect my iPhone, it DOESN'T appear as a connected drive on the desktop. Not sure how this can be so, since the iPhone also has a drive and also functions as an iPod if I want it to. I must have changed some setting to achieve this non-appearance, but don't remember what I must have done.
    What's the secret?
