Nano and dock

My daughter just received an ipod nano. Her ipod mini died. When we put it in the dock to load her music library thru itunes the nano displays a message about a firewall or something but let us load library using a USB connector. Is there a way that we can use the dock for future downloads? Any help appreciated.
Frank

Did it say something about firewire (not firewall) ?
If so, then, no, you cannot. The iPod nano can only transfer data via USB. Firewire will not allow you to transfer data, just charge the iPod.
However, if you are using the iPod with a dock, it should still work. Just connect the USB cable up to the dock instead of the firewire cable.

  • Ipod nano and windows XP pro

I just purchased a new Ipod nano. I installed iTunes 7 and am able to download and move songs. Itunes recognizes my ipod but everytime I dock or open iTunes I get a:
Found new hardware wizard that pops up. It states
" there was a problem installing this hardware.
    Apple iPod USB Device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service"
Some times it will pop up 4 or 5 times and the only option button that work is the "Finish" button. After 4 or 5 times it goes away until I close and re-open Itunes or undock and dock my Ipod.
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks!!

If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC

  • Iphone 3gs no video to tv with apple cables and dock

i have a 80gig classic 5th gen which i use with the apple component dock and cables to watch videos on my tv.however to get it to work correctly i have had to use a 3 plug scart adaptor for the connection at the back of the tv. discarding the component green and red pb, pr cables and only using the audio and blue.
if i use the component connection as i am meant to then the picture is not very good and is in only shades of red and white.
i cannot get a picture from my nano 3 gen ipod or my new iphone 3gs no matter what arrangement i use.
i can confirm all the leads were bought in february this year including the dock with remote - all as detailed on the website suitable for use with both the new iphone and nano 3 gen.
i have checked and tried all the various combinations of the settings and connections to no avail.
i was going to buy a new classic 160gig but im now afraid if i do it wont work.
can anyone on this forum provide reasons why the nano and iphone wont tv out as meant to, the only thing i can think of, is that the leads have been upgraded without being advertised as so - and if true is very underhand by apple.
iphone, nano 3 gen, classic 5 gen Windows Vista

Not sure what the problem could be, but have you looked at the manual for the ipod touch? Maybe it can help.

  • How to listen to radio when the iPod nano is docked?

On the iPod, the antenna for the radio is the cable of the earspeakers. However the earplug is on the same side as the docking plug. Is there any accesoire for that or should I make my own design?

If your docking station has a line-in input, you can get a male to male audio cable and it will act as the antenna. I just did this with my nano and it works fine. Only prob is you can't adjust the volume with your docking station remote and the vol on the nano only goes so high. Hope this helps.

  • Poor sound quality with 7g Nano through docking speaker.

Very poor sound quality with 7g Nano through docking speaker.  Sound through ear bud is fine.  A different 7g Nano sounds fine through the same speakers.  There does not seem to be debris in the lightning port.  Any suggestions?

  • Playing music through nano and auto stereo, while traveling...nano is set to shuffle, but if vehicle is stopped for more than a few minutes, nano restarts with same song everytime! How do I make it really shuffle the songs

Having trouble with Nano shuffle while traveling.  It's connected to my vehicle stereo and set to shuffle. When I stop the vehicle for more than a few minutes, the music resumes with the same song it always starts with. How can I get it to keep shuffling after restarting the vehicle?

Is the iPod actually doing the music playing?  If the iPod is connected using a USB port (on the car audio system) and docking cable, the car audio system is doing music playing.  The iPod is just acting as a storage device (like a USB flash drive) with song files.  So, in that setup, it does not matter whether the iPod is set to shuffle or not, because the car audio system is playing the songs.  Any change to how it plays songs would have to be a setting on the car audio system.

  • Ipod Nano and Dension/Blaupunkt ICE links

    Hi,
I have been attempting to connect my Ipod Nano to the
audio system in my car using both the Dension ICE Link Plus and the Blaupunkt Ipod Interface Cable. Both give control of the Nano from the head unit CD changer controls, but neither gives any audio. Both work perfectly with my wifes Ipod Mini, with full audio, so I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue with the Nano, or I there is just a problem with my specific one.
Dension claim compatibility for their ICE Link Plus, but Blaupunkt don't for their cable. As the Nano has the standard dock connecter I just expected to plug in and go.
Anyone tried either of these with the Nano and had success?
Any suggestions as to whether its likely to be a problem with my Nano, and what I should do if it is?
    Cheers
    Will.

Try a reset of the Nano and if that fails try a restore from the iPod updater. There has been several posts related to lack of audio output on the Nano inconjuction with various accessories where a Reset or Restore corrected the problem.
To reset Nano, press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. You should have to hold the buttons down for about 6 to 10 seconds.
To restore your Nano, download the latest iPod updater and install the application. Run the updater with your iPod connected and select restore. The updated can be download from --> http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Nano and TuneTalk

Does anyone have any experience with the Belkin TUNETALK microphone with second generation NANO? The sales literature only indicates that the TuneTalk microphone is for video Ipods but I read a press release (dated mid-Sept.) which suggested that sscond gen Nanos work with the TuneTalk microphone.
I e-mailed Belkin have not received any replies.
    Does anyone really know?
    Bill

Just to clarify things, you're talking about the later Tunetalk Stereo voice recorder, which is designed for the iPod with video: the early Tunetalk was a) very poor bitrate and b) designed for the early iPods with remote port. The current line of iPods don't use the remote port for peripherals, they use the dock connector.
I'm going to get a Tunetalk Stereo to go with my iPod nano. I shall be very surprised indeed if it doesn't work properly. (Note: Have now got one. Works as expected)
    1) the iLounge site went through exhaustive testing on the three stereo voice recorders currently nearly available. They reported 'issues' (but didn't say what they were) with Griffin's iTalk Pro and the nano, but not the other two (Belkin and XtremeMac).
    2) The head of the iPod accessories dept at Belkin has apparently gone on record as saying he has tried it with the nano and it works fine.
    3) The first detailed user reviews and podcasting blogs are beginning to trickle in, with pictures and some even with recordings. The good news is, the nano may be a better option to use for stereo recording than the ipod, because the TuneTalk (and the other ones) suck power at a **** of a rate, and people have suggested that the hard drive's noise can be picked up by the Belkin's inbuilt mic.
I'm not sure if it's at all worth waiting for a nano-specific model for essentially cosmetic reasons. Belkin would have to shrink it, make a decision on which of several shiny colours to bring it out in, and make a decision about how much of the market would already have bought the model that's out now in order to get the feature. I could see where they might not want to put in the development and money into the project, given that many people will just accept the cosmetic imperfection since the existing black 'video' version is a) usable and b) not something people are that likely to want to have attached permanently. If they bring it out in silver and people buy the other colours of nano more often, would they buy a silver accessory? I would imagine that Belkin is currently thinking about whether it's worth going through the effort of redesigning the whole thing to 'look right' with the nano, and the answer isn't immediately obvious. (If I had the job of designing a nano-specific voice-recorder I'd leave out the speaker grilles with their mics to save space, and design it as a short flat extension to the nano with a line-in/mic input jack and some sort of tiny pre-amp if possible, and sell it with a soft case that covers nano and recorder as one unit, because that's the most obvious way of getting round the 'colour problem'.)
(If anybody is reading this and has an old (first-gen) nano, I would be astonished if it did work with voice recording. There's no reference to anyone having tried this on the net, and there are big differences in the chipset of the new nano, which is probably where they added the new functionality)
    Hope this is some help.

  • IPod nano And Dension Ice Link Plus: no audio :(

    Hi guys,
I've a very strange problem with my iPod Nano 4GB.
I've just installed the Ice Link Plus interface in my car and it seems working great (total control from OEM radio, carghe it, change the tracks from radio controls, ID3 on the screen, etc.) BUT...I'm not able to hear any music!!
yeah...the nano is totally mute :O
I've seen many post about this issue (with docking units, etc), but I've to say that:
    - it worked perfectly with Pioneer CD-IB100 interface
    - it works perfectly with my JBL On Stage
So, as suggested in Dension Knowledge-base, I've unplugged the ipod from dock connector, done a soft reset (MENU + Select) and reconnected it...but nothing. It doesn't play :'(
Then I've tried to plug the headphones, unplug them and then connect the dock...but nothing, it doens't play.
Saying that I'm going to try another iPod on that Dension to be sure tha the problem is in the iPod, do you have some suggestions?
    Thx,
    francesco

  • IPod nano and mini connectors

Are the nano and mini connectors interchangeable?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean to ask if the iPod nano and the iPod mini use the same type of connector? Then, yes, they do use the same type of connector.
However, there are a couple of differences between the two iPod models. For example, if you have a FireWire cable connected to your dock or an iPod cable with a FireWire connection, you will only be able to charge your iPod nano. The iPod nano requires a USB connection to sync songs or pictures.

  • IPod nano and Altec Lansing inMotion im5, clicks between tracks?

When I'm using my iPod nano with the Altec Lansing inMotion im5 there are 'clicks' between the tracks. When I'm using my iPod headphone I don't hear these 'clicks'. What could be wrong?

I've been playing around with my iPod nano and the im5 speaker system. I guess that the clicks might be caused by a gap (longer than 5 seconds) between the songs. It would have been no problem when the iPod should have a crossfade playback like iTunes has. I haven't heard the clicks when I use the iPod dock. The one I heard was just a strange end of a song....sorry!

  • 4th generation nano -- which docking speakers DO charge??

    Hey, there --
I've read LOTS about how all the old technology does not match with the charging requirements of my daughter's 16 GB 4th generation nano (and experienced this, as well). Does anyone have a set of docking speakers that 1) has an AC adapter, and 2) DOES charge your 4th gen nano?
Also, I've seen several links to this Scosche adapter (http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/318/productID/1695); has anyone actually used one? Does it work?

  • Need help on how to help my sister register her new nano and add music to it on my computer. I have my on nano already on my computer registered and set up but she and I don't listen to the same music so how would I go about doing this?

I'm trying to find out information on how to go about helping my sister to register her new nano and load on CD's and such. I have a nano and already know how to do this but she is from CA and we want to load it here on my computer. She will be going home in 2 weeks and wants to use it in the car for the ride home.We don't listen to the same kind of music so I don't want to use my library but do one of her own for her. Also she will want to add this library on to her computer at home. I'm 60 and my sister is 70 I have enough knowledge to do some things on the computer but am not real computer smart. My sister is just learning about everything but has no idea what to do with that knowledge. Can anyone give me and idea on how to do this that I can get a grasp of what needs to be done to do this? My nephew says it's easy but he's in Az and I'm here. He also helps people with computers so he is more knowledgeable than I am. Would appreciate any help on this. thx
