Nano and itunes

this isn't a major issue but it's annoying enough that i want to know if anyone else has it. Everytime i connect my nano it says welcome to your new ipod. then i click continue and the normal info comes up. im using vista with itunes 9.0.2.25
one5860

i think i have a similiar problem. i recently did a full restore on my computer due to a virus. i am pretty new to ipod, and i thought i could copy my purchased music back to the computer from the ipod. now i want to add newly purchased music to the ipod, but it seems that to do that i will be erasing the music currently on there. how do i add new music without losing what i already purchased? is it the same thing explained above for the OP's question? while i'm here, what is the best way to back up purchased music in the future? i don't want this to be a big problem if i get a new computer or have to do a restore again. i would certainly appreciate any help anyone could give me, thanks!!

  • There's 90MB free on my Nano and iTunes says 15 pictures won't fit.

When is Apple going to fix this bug? I have 90MB free on my Nano and iTunes says it can't fit 15 pictures on it. If I remove all the songs and then add the pictures, they take up a WHOPPING 18k of space on the Nano. Why does iTunes think that 18 KILOBYTES won't fit into 90 MEGABYTES of space?
    Please Apple FIX THIS!

"What does the nano report in the settings/about menu?"
    90MB free. I understand the 2GB doesn't equal 2GB thing.
iTunes reports 90MB free on the Nano. I can fill that space with MUSIC, and have done so all the way down to a mere 250-300k left empty. But iTunes can't seem to grasp that 20k of pictures will fit into 90MB of space.
    It's a bug.

  • Please help, iPod Nano and iTunes issues

    1. I can't update my iPod Product Red. I've downloaded the update, and when I click "update" in iTunes, it just sits there for hours saying its updating
    2. The first time I start windows, connect my iPod Nano and then start iTunes (or even the other way around, start itunes then connect ipod), my nano doesn't show up in itunes. I need to restart the service after plugging in the nano every single time!
    3. I cant restore my iPod Nano either, the same problem with the updating my ipod, the progress screen just goes back and forth for hours without doing anything, infact my nano just seems like it looses synch during both an update and a restore, because the do not disconnect message on the screen goes away once either update or restore process is started.
Please help! This is my first ipod purchase and so far it is really disappointing me and frustrating, thanks

  • Nano and iTunes 7.4

My daughter already uses her iPod Classic on this PC. My wife bought a Nano and while downloading iTunes 7.4 I get a message "Service 'iPod Service' could not be stopped. I don't believe so.

  • IPod Nano and iTunes 5.0.1 - Crash on sync

Whenever I connect my iPod nano to my laptop using iTunes 5.0.1, it appears in the panel on the left and a preferences box appears to enable me to set up my nano. I enter all the details I want, and click OK.
Then I get a nice crash message asking me whether I want to close or debug the application using the Just In Time debugger and iTunes closes either way.
Reverting to iTunes 4.9 on the nano CD seems to have solved the problem, but I still have sporadic problems where during a transfer, iTunes says it cannot communicate with the nano.
Anyone know how I can the 5.0.1 to work properly, or should I just wait for the next version?

I thought it was just ipod, maybe because I was playing movie files from it, but now I see other people are having problems. My 3G ipod is crashing or stalling when connected to to my computer via firewire. At first everyting looks normal, the "Do not disconnect" sign flashes a few times, but then the hard drive starts clicking and the screen on the ipod freezes (no flashing). And if I try to access it from the computer it crashes any program on which I try to do so, including Finder.
Right now, it did that and I forced restarted the ipod. As soon as I did that, all of the stalled programs on my computer started working fine. The ipod is now connected and flashing, but now it doesn't even show up on the computer, so I don't know how to eject it. I was able to get it to work once last night, but I forgot how. Apple, if other people are having this or similar problems, please fix it.

  • Two iPod nanos and iTunes

We just bought 2 nanos and now of course are paranoid about scratches.
I have been creating libraries and moving them to my iPod. When I hook my wife's up is it automatically going to synch my libraries onto her iPod as well?
Is there a way to not have that happen? Can I create her libraries and direct iTunes to only move them when I connect her iPod to the computer?
    Thanks
    Darryl

    Darryl,
I think you need to get your terminology right as it does not sound like you understand iTunes fully yet.
On your computer you have iTunes and it has one and only one library of music. This contains all the music loaded on to your computer from CD's or bought from the music store, etc.
What I think you have been creating are Playlists, i.e lists of songs that exist in your library.
You can use as many iPods on your computer as you like and each can be set up to have different contents selected by you.
To do this you need to connect the iPod you want to put music onto, and then in iTunes go to the preferences section and go to the iPod preferences area, specifically the music tab. Once there you can tell iTunes to automatically sync only a selection of specific playlists. Once done your iPod will only contain those playlists selected.
You can now connect the other iPod and do the same thing, selecting any list of playlist you like.
Can I suggest you read up about iTunes a little more, there are some great online tutorials here :-

And a very specific one for the question you have, here :-

  • IPod video, 3 Nano, and itunes...can they co-exist?

Please help me..my teens are breathing down my neck to use my iTunes account. What is the best way to get three nano devices for three children up and running with iTunes? Do I make different accounts, or share one very large library, or what? We have different tastes in music...

I don't know if Windows Vista does this, but in XP you can set up different user accounts and then each account can have its own iTunes library.
Go to the start menu, then control panel, then user accounts, then create new account.
I have a nano and my sister has a mini and that's how we keep ours seperate. We can't sync or charge them at the same time so it would help if you got a wall charger of three (if you don't already have one).

  • IPod Nano and iTunes - can't edit Library

I have an iPod Nano, and just downloaded iTunes 11.3 for Windows. I can see my iPod Library, but I can't edit it - i.e. delete songs to make room to add new. Can anyone help?

    Hey there Bayvette,
You will want to use these instructions to help you sync music onto your iPod, keeping in mind that you can uncheck any music you want to remove from your iPod and it will be removed when you initialize the syncing process:

  • IPod Nano and iTunes 7

    Hello,
I just got an iPod Nano three days ago. The box does not say what generation, so I would assume it's the latest (4th generation)? When you rotate the nano, the image will rotate also. The back of the box shows Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (SP3); iTunes 8.
My computer at work has the Windows XP with iTunes 8. I have download the latest software for the iPod Nano.
My computer at home has Windows 2000 with iTunes 7, why can't I use iTunes 7 to download and add songs to my iPod Nano?
    Thank you,
    -Shannon

Because the 4th Generation Nano is not compatible with Windows 2000 nor iTunes 7, changes have been made to the firmware for video, video rentals, etc. that requires the newer OSs and software.
You can use Xplay with Windows 2000 and the 4th Gen Nano.

Unlock iTunes / get write permission

Wanted to upload some songs from my iTunes Library to new Nano.
Hooked it up, went through the promps, choose two playlists to load, and before we could say oops, we saw that it was infact loading the entire library. We had no way of stopping the process so we unplugged it.
Now when I try to open iTunes it I get an error message :"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I verified permissions and repaired them. No luck.
    Help! Please!

i'm assuming the Error code HRESULT: 0x800763b3 means something and is the solution but where can i find the answer or am i going about this all wrong?
Yeah, this 0x800763b3 is a slightly unusual one. Normally with these, the iTunes install error code matches the error codes that people get on their Windows Update failures. But for the last two 0x800763b3s I've been involved in on an iTunes install (Liv and someone else), the 0x800763b3 on the iTunes install has been associated with an 0x8007000b on the Windows Update failures. (Liv's 643s were pretty much "generic" error message codes for Windows Update failures, which could mean anything. So that's why I/we went after the 0x8007000b, which has some Microsoft documentation on fixes.)
Doublechecking on other symptoms of your situation ... is your Windows Update not opening at all when you try to launch it?
If so, when you click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the "Programs and Features Control Panel" item, is the Windows Features dialog box empty? (No features are shown?)
(If we can't get the codes from the windows update failures, we might be able to make some progress if we can identify other symptoms that you're getting. I know some documentation for some of these codes that mentions the Windows Features thing as a possible additional symptom.)

  • Nano and iTunes 7

I've been having a little trouble ever since I updated to iTunes 7. My nano no longer has my music on it and for some reason can only be seen from the desktop whenever I plug it in. In iTunes all it does is give me this message:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings"
But then the nano is not listed in the source pane.
    PowerBook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Try restoring the iPod on your computer with an older iPod Updater, if you have it.

  • Problems with Nano and itunes

    How are yas?
Ok I am having serious problems getting my Nano to be recognized by itunes. The Nano is recognized by both windows and the ipod updater but there is no option to update in itunes itself.
If i connect the ipod to my usb it will fire up itunes automatically which suggests there is some kind of recognition, but unfortunately this is not much help if the update option is still not available in itunes.
I thought this was software conflict so I tried the same processes to try and get it working on my other 2 machines but still the problem remains.
Im am qualified to work at computers so I do have a fair knowledge, but still after everything ive tried ive had no luck.
I have followed this link to the last word, everything on this page has been tried on my 3 computers aswell as various other problem pages ive read throughout the net :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    You still awake?
Where do I go from here?

Hiya and thanks for the reply.
No the ipod does not show in the source list, when it was new it did show in this list with the name I gave it at the time although I cant remember it. First time installation was without problems, I think the process of naming the ipod and typing the serial number bounded the two together if you will
Should I not be prompted again for my serial number and stuff because this is a new itunes version? I cant think of much else to try except a fresh windows install.
    Thanks
