Nano and windows x64

Hi,
I've just got my computer up and running after getting a replacement motherboard. During the time I didn't have my computer I purchased a Nano which I used on the family computer with no problems (running windows xp). When I plugged my Nano into my computer windows and itunes doesn't recognize it and I think its the sign for an empty battery shows up on the screen of the Nano when it is connected. I'm already running version 5.0.1 of itunes, which I was told on another forum would fix my problem, but it hasn't
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll probably need to go to Microsoft and Apple to seek support for the iPod (of any type) on Windows XP x64 Edition... and I don't think you'll have much luck.
I personally decided against XP x64 because I saw this kind of thing coming... In my opinion XP x64 is no more than a Windows ME... for M$ to make a few bucks on and offer limited support to those that will unknowingly help them develop Longhorn/Vista. There are not enough significant improvements to move me from XP 32-bit considering some of my peripherals would no longer function and the mfg's indicated they were not going to produce drivers unless there was a huge demand... there has not been.

    Yes that is correct
Okay. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • Nano and windows-the answer ?

Having been an avid reader of these forums since buying a Nano at Christmas, I am now on my second ipod nano nd that too has failed and is awaitng service or swapout when i have time to deal with it. My PC has win xp proff and is fully up to date and legit. My pc is a P3 500Mhz with half a gig of ram. It has a Belkin 5 port USB 2 card in it. On both occasions the nano's worked ok for a week or two and then suddenyl ceased to work. They both eventually exhibited the file folder with exc mark and both showed up as a drive in MY COMPUTER but could not be addressed to restore. All solutions on the support site were followed. First nano diagnosed as having "hard disk failure". By this i take to mean flash rom failure. Second one as yet undiagnosed.
The figures speak for themselves. The number of windows related posts is more than 8 times that of mac related posts.
Its obvious really, Apple have made macs for years. Every mac leaving the production line is of a known spec i.e they are all the same give or take a little. Meanwhile in PC land, PC's are infinately more times more variable and there are millions upon millions of combinations of hardware/software etc etc. The only common factors are that they are all generic "PCs" and for the most part, they have XP,hopefully fully updated. Even XP from one machine to another will have infinate variations.
It is no surprise then that there are more PC problems than mac problems and worse, the PC problem is one that forever changes and morphs.
Perhaps Apple underestimated this during product development, having been used to the relatively safe world of the Mac which was/is a standard known quantity.
It is now no surpise to me that a friend with an Apple Ibook has no problems with his nano and he sync's other ipods belonging to friends on the same machine with no bother.
On the other hand, two nanos connected to my PC have failed. I have little doubt that if i obtain a replacement,it will go the same way.
    What do you people think?

  • Ipod nano and Windows XP

iTunes recognizes the nano, I go through the initial ipod setup to name it, etc. I can add songs after that. But then when I eject it/disconnect/reset, it comes up and starts through the setup process again. Name is not saved, songs are gone. Am I missing a step?

  • Can I use iCloud with my iPod nano and windows laptop?

not clear how to use iCloud with an iPod Nano and a Win 8.1 PC

iCloud doesn't work with the iPod nano directly, and will only work on a PC with an already-existing iCloud account; these need to be created from a Mac or an iOS device.

  • I pod Nano and Windows Media player.

Can someone please help! All my music is in windows media player and I dont know how to transfer it over to by nano.

If the WMA files are "unprotected", iTunes can convert them when you add them to your library. It should do this automatically when you use the "file/add to library" option in iTunes.
If not, see: How to convert a song to a different format using iTunes.
However, iTunes cannot convert "protected" WMA files.
The only way to convert these files would be to burn them to an "audio" cd and import that into iTunes as you would any other cd.
Once they are in iTunes and converted to a format the iPod can read, they should transfer.

  • Ipod nano and windows XP pro

I just purchased a new Ipod nano. I installed iTunes 7 and am able to download and move songs. Itunes recognizes my ipod but everytime I dock or open iTunes I get a:
Found new hardware wizard that pops up. It states
" there was a problem installing this hardware.
    Apple iPod USB Device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service"
Some times it will pop up 4 or 5 times and the only option button that work is the "Finish" button. After 4 or 5 times it goes away until I close and re-open Itunes or undock and dock my Ipod.
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks!!

If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC

  • IPod and Windows x64 Professional?

hmmmm. okay, haven't heard this reported as a problem for 64-bit, but i don't think i've seen a case of someone using it with an ipod video before.

  • Nano and Windows XP Pro

Well my Nano experience hasn't been spectacular so far. On both my home PC and Work PC, both running XP Pro SP3 and iTunes 7.7 I get connection issues. These include errors when trying to update the firmware with an error message saying that the required disk could not be found, not syncing any music, the nano device disappearing sporadically from the device list, syncing photos that I didn't want sync'd, freezing iTunes etc etc etc.
I'm an Apple newby, and so far I'm not impressed. Is it iTunes, or am I doing something wrong?

Connection errors can occur if your iPod is connected to a bad USB port, or a USB 1.1 port. (Which is why all iPods now say "USB 2.0 Required".) Try reconnecting it to another port. If you've connected it from the front, try the back. I used to have several issues like this, where iTunes would say my "iPhone did not respond with a valid message". And it was an iPod touch. Reconnecting it from the back solved it.

  • IPod Nano and Windows ME

I need to get a Nano!
Does it work with Windows ME?

ITunes doesn't work with ME, but if you search the forums there are other applications that you can use to transfer music from your computer to the nano.

  • New nano and windows

itunes account recognize new ipod as a different ipod, help

This has nothing to do with Windows Vista, it's basically just one of the changes from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7. If you look in the left-hand column of iTunes (the source list) you should see the name of your iPod below the word "devices." If you look to the left of the name of the iPod icon, you should see a small triangle that appears to be pointing toward the iPod. Click on it. You should now see an additional menu below the iPod's name. If you click on "music" below your iPod, it should show you a list of what's on your iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • ITunes 9.0.2 locks trying to sync iPod nano under Windows 7 Enterprise x64

I've been fighting this thing for a couple weeks now and it's getting to be very frustrating. I wanted to sync some new music purchases onto my various iPods, but ended up with a 5G iPod Video with just a couple songs on it and which refused to sync. It had been fine before I tried to sync it, with about 45GB of music on it, but now I couldn't get it to work at all. I formatted it, I ran chkdsk, I restored it, but nothing I did would make it sync. I thought the hard drive was fried, so I ordered a new 160GB Classic. After I got it, I found that it did the same thing! iTunes would simply hang trying to sync to it and it would never get more than a couple songs on there before giving up.
What it would do is spin for a couple minutes and then lock up completely. If it was playing a song, it would finish the song but then not go to the next one and just stop. I couldn't bring it up, I couldn't click on it, I couldn't close it. I couldn't even end the task in Task Manager. Even ejecting the drive in Windows didn't make a difference. The only way to get it back was to unplug the iPod. Then iTunes would come back and I could use it again.
Finally, I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, and then both the new Classic and the old Video were able to sync with no problems. I can't tell you how happy I am to have spent that $235 for no good reason!
So next I grabbed my 3G Nano and tried to sync it. No dice, same problem. So I tried all the same things, check for errors, format, restore. All of this was much quicker since it's only 8GB of flash instead of a 60GB hard drive, but still none of it worked. Finally I installed iTunes on my work laptop running Windows XP, imported the iTunes library from my other machine (via .xml), and waited. And waited. And waited. It takes a long time to rebuild the library from that xml file! When it was done, I plugged the Nano into the XP laptop and restored it... and it synced! Like it was nothing at all. Everything went on there quickly and with no fuss.
Now, this is the same content, my music is on a network drive. So there is no difference whatsoever in what was being synced. The only difference is the PC being used.
So, what the heck! I do need to get iTunes working on my primary machine again, as this is the machine I use. I can't depend on my work laptop to sync the Nano since I'd have to re-import the entire library every time to get the changes I've made. Is there some known issue with Windows 7 x64 and iTunes 9.0.2? This used to work just fine! Please, if anyone has any suggestions I could really use some relief.
    Thanks!!

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:
[You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972]
