Nano and your car

After using a friends iTrip FM adapter, I considered purchasing one, but opted to go with a cassette adaptor which I hear is clearer. Now, the cassette adaptor I purchased plays music on one side of the car but on the other side it barely plays the music at all. Can anyone tell me how I can remedy this without being forced to play with the balance of my car's stereo.
Also, I made a previous post about the scratches on my iPod NANO that was deleted. I appologize, I bought Displex Display Polish and a fancy $40 leather case and now my scratches are a thing of the past. I thoroughly reccomend if you buy a NANO, get a case.
Thanks in advance for any help!

It sounds like it is more of a problem with the deck in your car then the ipod itself. try the cassette in another vehicle. if the problem persists, you know its your cassette. if not, then there is a problem with the cassette aspect of the deck in your car. no need to apologize for the scratch post, everyone knows whats up with that. i could use some display polish...but 10$ for shipping on ebay? screw that...

  • Nano in your car

What do you need to be able to play your nano thru your car stereo i gather a itrip which i already own does not work thanks in advance for any help

    BRILLIANT comment!
I have wondered about that option for a long time and NO ONE seems to know about it. Many CD players for the car have an interface to hook up to an external changer. I have NO idea what kind of plug you need. (Are they standard? Or does every brand have its interface so you can only use, say, a Sony changer with a Sony head unit?)
Is there anyone else out there who is into car stereo that can shed some more light on this? It HAS to be a better option than playing through the stinkin radio or cassette player!!

  • Ipod nano in your car??

Anyone no about equipment to get the ipod nano connected to the car? What it is needed nd if it is possible to do it?

    It's definately possible.
If your car stereo has an input connection the best way to do it is to get an adapter that will allow you to connect the iPod directly to the stereo. You can find information about them for different stereos in the apple store.
The other option is to get an FM transmitter or a cassette adapter.
FM transmitters basically create a short range transmission that your car stereo will pick up, you just set the transmitter and the radio to the same frequency, you may have to fiddle with it to find a good frequency that doesn't have any interference and some people complain about the sound quality but it works.
Cassette adapters work just like the old cassette adapters they had out when portable cd players were brand new, you just plug one end into your iPod, the other goes into the cassette hole and the stereo treats it just like a tape.

  • Ipod nano and Alpine car audio problem

have bought an Alpine 9850Ri car audio, but it cant find my ipod nano 1st generetion. In the alpines manual it is written that Apline supports the ipod nano ver 1.0 ...
I tried connetcing ipod to another alpine model , but it cant find it too.
So is there any way to load older software to ipod?
    Restoring, reseting wont work.

This itrip -- http://store.apple.com/us/product/TQ044LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2MQ&mco=MTA4NTQy -- says it's compatible with the Nano 4g, and it uses FM to play through your car radio. I don't have any experience with it, however. The reviews are so-so.

  • Can you charge ipod nano in your car

hi: Just a quick question, can the nano be charged in your car and how is it done. thanks

You just need to get an in-car kit, check the Apple Store under iPod Accessories>Car Audio, there are a variety of connecting solutions in there from Belkin, XtremeMac and Monster.

  • Nano and Alpine Car Stereos

Took my Nano to my local independent car stereo installer this afternoon - I wanted to see what options gave me better sound than the FM modulators.
Excuse me if you all already know this, but Alpine's new head units and their iPod adapter work with the Nano - offering total control of your nano from the car stereo face. Song title and artist are displayed on the car stereo screen. And the Alpine iPod adapter even charges the Nano while attached.
I mean, the shop owner asked me for my Nano. He plugged it into the Alpine iPod interface. And within three or four ceconds, there was my first cut off my iPod! The car stereo displayed my iPod's name. And then (if I remember correctly) the song title - then the album name.
I was immediately sold. I chose the Alpine CDA-9851 head unit, plus the iPod adapter. Due to the fact that my Ford's original stereo was "double-DIN" in height, I will "gain" a little felt-lined shelf under this new Alpine - to hold the Nano, of course!
It all gets installed this Saturday! I'll report back after playing with it for a few hours.

There are plenty of options out there, and buying into the "brand name experience" is one of them. The benefits of your choice is that you have full control through the stereo itself (and possibly the steering wheel). Other options are less costly, but require manual control via the iPod.
    Have fun!

  • Compatibility issues with 1st Ipod Nano and In Car Windows MP3 media player

I use a mac pro running 10.5.6 leopard. My new car has a Windows formatted media MP3 player with USB connector which doesn't read my 1st generation Ipod nano. I can load the music files onto a flash drive and play them in the car but without any of the functionality of an Ipod.
How can I load music files onto my Ipod and use it in my car without
resorting to loading Windows on my mac and reformatting my Ipod to PC? Is
there a crossover bit of software available? Are more recent nano's formatted for both Mac and PC? I have saved the IPod as a external hard disk and converted all music files to MP3 which is the MP3's accepted format. I'm also sure I have the latest software for the IPod. Any ideas? Cheers.

OK I am confused. You say your car stereo has a Windows formatted MP3 player? What does that mean exactly? That the car stereo can play MP3s off of mass storage devices plugged into its USB port?
I think if the above is what you meant, then you have two problems. One is that your car stereo likely reads FAT32 formatted storage devices (and possibly, but doubtfully, Windows NTFS formatted devices). Your iPod is likely formatted in Mac format which your stereo won't be able to read.
That can be overcome. Simply restore your ipod on a Windows machine to put it into Windows format then plug it back into your Mac and use it that way. Macs can read and sync to Windows formatted iPods just fine.
But the other problem is, your stereo may not be able to actually control an iPod directly. Does the instruction say it can? Therefore it would be looking on the storage of the iPod that shows up as Mass Storage for tracks, not on the hidden area where iTunes stashes music into and your iPod plays music from.

  • Ipod Nano and Icelink Car adapter

Well i recently installed the Icelink adapter on my BMW's Bussiness CD. I bought an Ipod Nano and i am facing a weird issue that noone can explain.
Though the Nano works fine with the CD player in my car, in certain songs "Warning" is displayed in the CD player's screen and either Nano or CD Player turns off and back on.
If i skip the song within 2-3 minutes moving forwards/backwards it works until i reach a song that can be played.
Note that i controll the Nano from the CD Player's menu buttons.
I have also upgraded it to software version 1.1.1 but still it does the same thing and only in certain songs.
It's weird cause all of these songs play fine in any player in my laptop and through Nano connected to my home stereo or earphones.
An other funny thing is that i connected another regular IPOD which interacts with the car's CD Player fine without having issues like the ones i mentioned above.
Does anyone have any idea why this issue occures??
    Thanks in advance.

    Well i figured it out.
In order for icelink to transmit the song played in Nano to the CD Player, all songs must have information related both to the Song title and artist name. Otherwise Icelink can not work properly and interact completely with the CD Player.
The info should be added through Itunes only.

  • Nano and my car

I would love to buy the Nano for my Acura TL but there is no clean way to hook it up. FM transmitter is a joke and no thanks to the cassette adapter. Does anyone know if we will see after-market connections for newer cars. I know on Apple's web site says 'coming soon' for my car. Should I get my hopes up or is this a dead issue?
    I want a Nano!

I have never tried the device referenced in the following URL, but it may be what you are looking for. We have a BMW with the digital interface which operates as if it were a 6 CD changer. It works with both our iPod mini and our new nano. The device at this URL sounds like it does the same thing for other brands of vehicles. Take a look.

  • Nano and a Magnet

I am thinking putting my nano in my car, and found a convenient way to place it with a magnet. two questions...1) will it stick to a magnet? 2) will the magnet hurt the computer parts inside of the nano.
    thanks.

Hello DMBeer41, welcome to Apple Discussions!
As a general rule, magnets should never come close to a hard drive, as they can "lift" data from the disk and leave you with broken files. The iPod nano is a hard drive, just as your C: drive on your computer is, so using one to hold your nano to your car is a definite no-no.
    Hope this helps!
    Sincerely,
    -FD

I get a message "The Itunes server could not be contacted, check your internet connection" when trying to check for Ipod Nano software updates. I have a 1st generation Nano and haven't updated the software for a while. My internet connection is working. Was thre a change in the internet address for NANO software updates? Do I have to reconfigure something in Itunes to point to the correct address?

What version of iTunes are you using?  The latest is 10.6.3. In iTunes, choose Help -> About iTunes to check the version number. If it's lower than 10.6.3, download the latest version from here.

Just found Ipad Nano in Big Island Hawaii. Trying to find the owner to return it back. Tell me what is the color, how many songs and your name(its personalize with a name).

I only wish that when I called Apple, they would match the serial number with the owner and give me the contact
Hopefully you left Apple your contact info (name phone #, email address).
Apple would simply pass your contact to the last registered owner. It would be up to the owner to contact you. As Dave mentioned, Apple will not give you any info (except may to tell you it was or was not registered, but not to who). Turn it on once in a while and maybe they have activated FindMyiPad and a message will pop up (don't need to be logged onto the iPad to a message).

  • Need help on how to help my sister register her new nano and add music to it on my computer. I have my on nano already on my computer registered and set up but she and I don't listen to the same music so how would I go about doing this?

I'm trying to find out information on how to go about helping my sister to register her new nano and load on CD's and such. I have a nano and already know how to do this but she is from CA and we want to load it here on my computer. She will be going home in 2 weeks and wants to use it in the car for the ride home.We don't listen to the same kind of music so I don't want to use my library but do one of her own for her. Also she will want to add this library on to her computer at home. I'm 60 and my sister is 70 I have enough knowledge to do some things on the computer but am not real computer smart. My sister is just learning about everything but has no idea what to do with that knowledge. Can anyone give me and idea on how to do this that I can get a grasp of what needs to be done to do this? My nephew says it's easy but he's in Az and I'm here. He also helps people with computers so he is more knowledgeable than I am. Would appreciate any help on this. thx

  • Charging iPod Nano in the car

From other posts in this area it seems that the iPod Nano is able to be charged via an Apple Firewire/iPod cable but it will not sync (transfer tunes) via the Firewire cable.
This seems OK provided that I can continue to use my Griffin car charger to charge the Nano (I connect my current iPod headphone socket to an iFire amplifier and then directly to the car speakers
    (see http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/aoaug/macosx.html#hifi )
Also I should be able to use my old iPod AC adapter with the firewire cable to the iPod dock connector. My main requirement is to be able to charge the iPod Nano will travelling when I dont have access to a computer with USB.
This all depends on being able to use the connector cable from the previous model iPod (20Gb) with teh Nano.

Yes your old iPod chargers will work as long as you can use a cable that connects to the bottom of the iPod (dock connector)
Also any charging accessory should work again as long as it can be connected as the iPods all required the same charge voltage, etc.
