Nano as field storage for digital photogrpahy?

I'm interested in buying a digital camera and wonder if iPods -- and the Nano in particular -- can be used for downloading image files from digital cameras so you can keep shooting.
Is this easy? Practical? Do I need different cables, adapters, etc.?
Thanks,
Brad

I know you can get adapters that will allow you to copy images from digital media onto hard-drive based iPods. To my knowledge, none of these adapters is compatible with the Nano.
And honestly, the nano is a bit small for holding images.

  • Storage for digital photography

    Hello,
I'm just about to upgrade my G5 to a Mac Pro. I'm trying to figure out what the best storage / performance strategy would be. I'm an amateur digital photographer, and I shoot with a 10 MP camera so my hard drives are filling up! I currently use a 74 GB Raptor as my boot drive/sandbox and a 400 GB WD as my OS & file storage drive. I love the speed of the Raptor.
But I already need more storage space, so when I move to the Mac Pro I'd like to do things differently. I've heard it's better when using Photoshop and Lightroom to keep photos 1) on an internal drive (not a problem with the Mac Pro's 4 drive bays) and 2) on a different drive than the OS install (is this true?) and 3) on a drive with lots of free space.
I was considering a WD Raptor 150 GB boot drive with OS X & Applications, and a pair of 400 GB drives in a RAID (? I know next to nothing about RAID) in the tower. Why? I already own 2 400 GB drives, so this would keep the costs down. I don't know much about the options here, so I would appreciate your input.

I saw a Barefeats review that said the Maxtor Maxline Pros were the fastest, but they've been acquired by Seagate?
The Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500GB drive is an excellent drive although coupled with the fact that it's no longer being manufactured and it does run hotter than other drives makes it for some not a good recommendation. I use the MaXLine III and they work fantastically well for me.
What makes, the MaXLines such effective boot drives, as well as Photoshop scratch drives, is their superb small read/write performance. Something which is surpassed with the 750GB/1TB drives.
Is this negated by the extra speed and capacity of a 2x 500 or 700 GB RAID 0?
    Yes and no.
The idea behind scratch drives is that it replaces RAM when needed so the faster your scratch drives are and the less they're used by anything else the better. However, since CS2 and Mac OS X Tiger, Photoshop has been able to use the RAM and disk caching used by Mac OS X which allows it you better utilise any available RAM. Because of this, your boot drive needs to also be as fast as possible given Mac OS X is doing much of the caching.
This is the reason why I find that you'll find that a 2 x 750GB configuration with your 400GB drives as backup to be the most sensible option to go with. Sure they're more expensive than 500GB drive but the added speed of the perpendicular recording and higher density is well worth the extra $US150 or so you have to pay for these drives. C'mon man… $US150!!
    This BareFeats report…
    http://www.barefeats.com/hard91.html
… should help you come to that conclusion.

No, it is not a storage solution as if you need to get the things off it you can't. If you deete things from iTunes they'll delete at the next sync. Provided you have backup copie on an external drive or CD/DVD, you could delete the actual file from the Finder leaving the database entry in iTunes - in this way you free space on the laptop but files stay on AppleTV.
An alternative would be to change itunes Preferences (Advanced tab) not to import into the library, then for things you don't want on the Macbook Air, have them on external drive, drag and drop to itunes, sync, then disconnect drive for portable use. Again when the files aren't available they won't be deleted, unless you delete the itunes database reference.
2-What is the best way to pair my APT with my MacBook Air through WiFi “g” or “n” or what is the latest, which will save me time?
    n is faster.
3-What is the best external drive that might fit my need?
Your options are basically small portable drives most of which are USB powered (though may require powered hubs if you have a hub) or larger desktop externals requiring power adapter and more space.
For value the desktop externals give more capacity per pound/dollar, and will also have bigger capacity maximums at a given time (bigger and bigger capacity discs being developed all the time).
Try and work out the capacity/pro
ice point and if a portable might be useful, then you have a variety of option.
Peronally I like Western Digital, Seagate and Freecom models, but they're all fairly good these days, and even popular brands can fail. I avoid Maxtor and IBM/Hitachi having had failures in the past, but all drives eventually fail.

My Nano is full and I can no longer sync more music. How do I delete duplicate songs on the Nano to make room for syncing more songs?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

  • Save method for digital signatures

Hi - I have several thousand forms all set up for digital signatures, which I use for locking down the form fields (render read-only). This works fine. The problem I have is that when a user digitally signs the form, they automatically get asked to Save As - with a default location on the local machine. Can this be changed to allow the user to simply save and overwrite the form in its original location. Of course there is a danger with doing this, but users with document/case management systems do not necessaritly know where to save the document, so basically they want to open up the form from their CMS/DMS, complete it, digitally sign it and simply save (automatically back in the location they launched it from.
Does anyone know where I can even look - I have trawled the registry, the digital signature settings, etc, but no luck.

Hi - these are all reader extended through Livecycle ES Reader extensions and are signed by users in Reader. What I am asking is if anyone has an idea where this behaviour is declared, so that I can change it.

  • How to add new field storage location of MM in FMDERIVE

    Dear All
I want to add new field storage location in FMDERIVE as need to consume budget on the basis of storage location
    Thanks in advance

    Hi SAPCOFI,
With Eli and Aleksey on this thread, you dont need to worry anymore
Just to add on to the inputs....
Ensure that the USERTEMP1 buffer is cleared before a value is entered. We faced this issue wherein the previous S.Loc value was left as it is in the USERTEMP1, resulting in an incorrect assignment.
I also suspect that you might need to run the process of identifying the enhancement point and populating the S.Loc value into the memory and then to USERTEMP1 for different transactions separately. Not sure if this is the standard process, but atleast we did it that way.
For eg, we faced issues during Goods Issue from MIGO, as also during 301, 309 and 311 movement types. So execute these transactions too once the development is done and if the USERTEMP1 field isnt getting populated..
FMDERIVE TRACE was the most important tool during our tryst with S.Loc mapping into USERTEMP1....Ensure that you set it everytime during testing for this S.Loc, post development
@Experts - Please correct me wherever I've gone wrong.
    Regards,
    Wy.

  • Using a partitionned cache with off-heap storage for backup data

    Hi,
Is it possible to define a partitionned cache (with data into the heap) with off-heap storage for backup data ?
I think it could be worthwhile to do so, as backup data are associated with a different access pattern.
If so, what are the impacts of such off-heap storage for backup data ?
Particularly, what are the impacts on performance ?
    Thanks.

    Dominique

  • What is the shift fields filter for?...

    Hi everyone,
I exported a movie from after effects in "animation" and imported it to FCP. it automatically added a 'shift fields' filter set to +1. this filter makes the focus soft and i am wondering why it is there and if i need it at all (i don't even know what it's supposed to do...).
btw, the quality of the picture, regardless of the filter, deteriorated quite a bit from the original QT movie that I exported from FCP to AE. i thought that digital copied don't lose quality... or was i supposed to export the movie in a special format? (I used DV pal).

You imported a clip made with the Apple Animation codec which uses upper field order (lines 1,3,5,7,9 etc are written first) into a DV Sequence which uses lower field order (lines 2,4,6,8 etc are written first).
So Final Cut Pro corrected the field order for you. What's not to like?
Never judge the quality of your output based on the FCP Canvas.
It always shows a low res proxy image to better conserve resources for real time playback.
To see the true quality, you need a calibrated external broadcast monitor, or at the very least, an excellent television set.

  • Where to find out Text for document storage for HR Objects in E-Recruitment

    Hi,
    In E-Recruitment
1.For table HRP5121,there are some fields which store numeric values but points to a text in the document storage for HR Objects. Where can we find out the description for the text ?
2.Similarly for Resume attachment is there any way where we can find out where the resume or other documents are stored
For pt 1 Requirement is to create a report

If i am not wrong, resume attached would be stored in tables TOAHR and SDOKCONT1, and attached document can be accessed through PB30 --> Extras

  • I think the 2ndGen nano has the DNA for games

Just from looking and using my 2ndGen nano with the Search features and the new Audio Recording, its seems to definitely have the guts to run games.
With the Search Feature etc. The Firmware has to be there I bet Apple left it off on purpose till MacWorld or the next iPod rollout.
Maybe not ALL the games but most.
But on second thought Apple seems to be headed down a path to make the full size iPod this all in one Media Device
and keep the nano just for music.
oh well its cool they doubled the storage space ut I doubt a year from now 9-20-07 Apple will redouble the Nanos storage space like they did with 1st gen nanos
    I mean 4GB for $149 and 16GB for $249
DELL   Windows XP Pro   Vista Beta

Apple Could Easily Put Games On Nano's.
But Its Just For The Video Ipod's
Because They Make Way More Of A Profit Off Of The Video Ipod's compared to Nano's.

  • Allocation of storage for OSx Lion

How do I manage allocation of storage? OSx Lion comes with "free" 5GB iCloud storage but all is allocated to mail.  Want to change so I can use some for backups.
Tried using system preferences, iCloud, manage but don't see anywhere to change the allocation.
Any suggestions for backup using space on hard drive so I can retrieve later for restore.

iCloud is not a general cloud storage solution. Rather it provides the cloud mechanism by which Apple syncs your mail, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks with your computers and iDevices. If you need general data storage for backup or other storage needs, then use a third-party service like SugarSync or ADrive.
If you need system backup then buy an external hard drive for backup. See:
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components: 1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences; and, 2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Can i upgrade icloud storage for secondary account?

My secondary account is used mostly for email.  I deleted a ton of them but somehow am still voer the 5GB limit.
I'm willing to pay the $100 upgrade to get rid of the hassle, but is theere a way to upgrade icloud storage for your secondary account?

You would probably have to temporarily make the secondary account the primary account to upgrade it.  To do this, go to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...delete the secondary account, then go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out of your primary account and choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in with your secondary account ID and upgrade the storage.
After upgrading the secondary account storage, reverse the procedure to assign the primary and secondary accounts back the way they were.
