Nano Battery Draining

On Sunday, my battery was just about fully charged - it might have been down 1/4th of the bar. By Monday night, the battery had somehow drained itself. It was fully turned off, no alarms set or anything like that.
Does anyone know why my battery won't keep a charge?

  • Nano battery Drain Whilst Turned Off

    Hi
Anybody else got problems or advise, as my battery on my 4gb Nano is draining in about 15 hours whilst off.
    Thanks

A couple years back I had a third generation iPod that I left connected to my computer overnight. Some days I'd grab it and have a fully charged iPod, other days I had a dead iPod. I finally realized that on the days the iPod's battery was dead the computer had gone to sleep. While asleep, the firewire card wasn't supplying electricity and the iPod discharged. I solved it by buying a powered USB/Firewire hub.
I wonder if you are experiencing the same problem? An easy test would be to charge the iPod during the evening and disconnect it from the computer before going to bed. In the morning if it has a full charge you'll know. A powered USB2 hub isn't too expensive.

  • Ipod Nano 2G battery drains suddenly after completly charge , software 1.3.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have this problem: after Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response. he Just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low... message".
I use my ipod only in my car with my iTrip car, but some times y use it for some Long travels in plane, its works ok, but some days ago ( near to sept. /8 ) start with this failures.
It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? Itunes install it some days ago in my Ipod and start with this problems.
some one have the same problem?

Well , after all the software test to see the battery behavior, my ipod still drains all battery power, even if the ipod are in off mode. but if I play songs after full charge it plays over 8 hours (IS NOT THE BATTERY THE PROBLEM) . but some times the Ipod reboot randomly and start with 2% of baterry charge after that.
I test using 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.1 software. and the same problem.
    therefore: IS NOT THE SOFTWARE.
So I decide send MY Ipod nano to the technical support office in my country/city using my APPLE warranty, now I just wait for the answer from the technichian.

  • Nano battery continues to drain when its turned off..why?

my nano battery continues to drain when its turned off..why?

Have you updated to the latest software? Connect to itunes and hit the update button on the summary screen for the ipod to find out. If there is an update, install it.
Usually, your battery drains when your not using it because it is still playing. As of the 1.1 udpate, they have a feature that tries to preserve your battery life. If you unplug the headset, this feature works to save your battery. So with the latest update, if you unplug your headset when you are done listening, it should put the nano to sleep so that it does not drain your battery.

  • Battery Drain when not in use--Gen 6 Nano

I have used Ipods for years now. Still have an Ipod Classic and a Shuffle that I use regularly. I have been pleased with the battery life, as a whole.
Recently I purchased a Nano Touch--Gen 6. I really like the Ipod + Nike features.
The issue I have is with the battery draining when the unit is not in use. If the unit has been fully charged, I will unplug from computer or wall charger and make sure that: 1)Music/radio is paused 2) Nike receiver is unplugged from Nano. 3) Screen is off.
If I do not use the nano for an extended period of time, say around 12-18 hours, I notice that the battery has drained between 50%-75% even if nothing is playing or "on". Nothing should be draining the battery this far, in my opinion.
I can't believe that this is typical. Do I have a bad battery?
    Your help would be appreciated.

You are not alone. I have had my Nano for several weeks now and have noticed the same thing. I would use it for short trips in the car while I ran errands and find that after only technically using it for maybe an hour or so (over the course of several days), I would already be low on battery. I read the manual and you can only put the ipod in sleep mode. It stays on for 36 hours and only then will it actually turn all the way off. So technically the battery last for several days but that doesn't do you any good unless you are using it for long periods of time all at once. I'm really frustrated because I really like it other than the fact that I'm always having to charge it.

  • My own Battery Drain Issues on iPhone 5

Hello guys, I've just created an account here to share my many issues with iPhone 5.
Well, this wasn't my Apple's 1st product, as I've had Ipod touch 2g and 3g, as well as an iPhone 3g. But it's my first time experiencing crazy battery issues with an Apple product, wich is really sad and disappoint, since this is the MOST expensive cell phone in my country (Brazil).
It all started about a week after I bought my iPhone 5. One morning I was on the bus, going to work, and my iPhone had about 99% battery remaining. 1h20 later, when I arrived at work, I had about 80% battery, so I panicked.
Suddenly I realized I was a victim of the common i5 battery drain. I was loosing 1% battery each 3~5 minutes IN STAND BY. And my settings are the same as they've ever been: wi-fi off, 3G off, 4G off (since it's not available in Brazil), brightness on minimum, no weak cell phone coverage etc. So, I shouldn't be experiencing this at all.
After reading lots of threads around the web, I realized that the ONLY solution to this would RESET AND START YOUR IPHONE AS A NEW ONE. No backups, no deleting apps and data. Sometimes removing email accounts would work, but as I didn't use this stuff, restarting my phone seemed to be the solution.
So I did it and, apparently, my problems were solved. My phone has worked perfectly for 2+ months. And then I let it fully discharge - but it's was not the first time it' happened. After I recharged for 4h, I started loosing battery really fast again, so the battery drain have came back. It was so frustrating.
Then I sent my iphone to an authorized reseller and they manage to give me a new replacement phone. They've checked my old i5 and detected a battery issue. My charger and cable were also tested but they were ok.
Well, after the very first charge on my new phone - and I've set it up as a new phone - the battery drain started again. I couldn't believe it.
So now I'm waiting for my 3rd iphone 5 in 3 months...
PS: My original iPhone 5 was bought in the USA, and the replacement one came from Brazil. Both were running iOS 6.1.4 when the issues started.
After all that, here are my conclusions:
    1) In normal conditions, with wi-fi, 3G and LTE off, you should expect your iPhone 5 to waste 1% of battery every 1h30~2h15 on STANDBY. This is based on my best iphone performance and on Apple's information: iPhone 5 should have 225h of battery time (in standby) at it's best. Since 100% = 225h, every 2h15min you should expect to "waste" 1% of battery, on standby.
Sometimes, overnight, your phone might have an even better battery life: my friend only lost 1% for about 8h/9h overnight. But this is just not common. Expect to loose about 2%~3% every night with all apps closed and no wifi/3G/LTE.
    2) If you detect a battery drain, GO TO AN APPLE STORE/RESELLER RIGHT THE WAY. Don't even bother trying a reset, as I did, because it might solve the problem for a while, but it CAN come back. Go to the apple store and ask for a diagnostic of your phone and battery. It will save you a lot of time.
    3) There are MANY causes to battery drains. The most common ones seem to be: 1- Push notifications/email related stuff -> Reset email, internet and settings. 2- Facebook app -> reinstall app. 3- Defective battery - go to apple store/genius and ask for a replacement phone.
    4) If an iPhone comes from factory with battery issues, expect AT LEAST ONE other issue. My original phone's touch screen was unresponsive when charging on PC and connect to iTunes and my replacement phone's microphone was not working properly. So expect other defective parts
    5) With my experience, I've realized I might have discovered A NEW CAUSE TO BATTERY DRAIN: A DEFECTIVE NANO-SIM CARD. Why? Well, because it's the only thing that I have used on both my iPhones (original and replacement ones). And it's the only thing thats has never been tested (both my charger and cable were tested on apple's reseller and were ok). And in my replacement phone, after I removed the SIM, I started loosing 1% battery every 1h20, when on stand by and with no wi-fi, 3G or LTE. So, if you have a battery issue CONSIDER THE SIM CARD TO BE THE PROBLEM.
Also, when my replacement phone was near any amplifier/pc speaker, it would make the amp make that "call or text incoming" sound. (to understand this, put your phone near an amplifier/speaker and ask for someone to call you). This makes me believe that the SIM card was, somehow, defective and making my phone receiving data (and I mean only telephone data, like related to calls and sms) when it shouldn't.
That's all my friends. If anyone has ever experienced this crazy issues, please try to help me. I'm getting a new sim card, iOS7 and my 3rd replacement phone and let's see if it works as it should.
Sorry for the MANY mistakes, my English is not good =\.
    Cheers from Brazil!

    Hi Folks,
iPhone & iPad2 battery drain issue SOLVED!!!!!
I had a serious battery drain problem on THREE devices using different iOS .... it was a simple fix and had certain characteristics that you may be able to relate to ......
    Devices;     16GB iPhone 4 with IOS6
                      16GB iPhone 4S with iOS7.06
                      32G iPad2 with iOS7.04
On or about Feb. 28th all three devices started to drain the battery like crazy losing about 20%/hour on the iPhones and 10%/hour on the iPad2 .... After messing around with settings, browsing forums and looking at what was common between the three devices I concluded the problem was with a single Microsoft Outlook/Live/Hotmail email account in the iOS native mail app .... I deleted the email account on all three devices (along with other unrelated Microsoft accounts on each device) and did a hard reboot (hold HOME and top LOCK button simultaniously for about 10 seconds until the apple logo appeared).
I then re-created the common Microsoft Outlook/Live/Hotmail account on all three devices in the iOS native mail app ...... SUCCESS! Now all three devices are behaving normaly with respect to battery drain ......
Hopefully this will be useful to others in this thread ..........

  • Full Battery Drain Overnight while Powered Off. -Defective Unit or?

I bought a new iPod Classic 80gb over the weekend and had charged it the same day via the included USB cable... Powered it off in the evening before going to bed by holding the play/pause button until the screen went black and I wake up the next morning to find that the battery is completely drained and the unit won't power up until its charged again.
Ok, so I figure this might just have been a fluke occurrence and that maybe I did something wrong in turning it off- but the EXACT same thing happened to me again this morning after doing a full charge just the previous night. I powered it off by holding play/pause as soon as it finished charging. Then I get into my car this morning ready to listen to some music on my commute and I get a message saying the battery is completely drained and it needs to be recharged...
How this has happened twice in 4 days I don't know, but hopefully someone may have an idea or might be experiencing the same thing? Am I doing something wrong? I haven't loaded anything other than music onto it and this has happened twice already since I bought it just a few days ago.
There is no video on it whatsoever and the battery has drained from 100% to 0% in a matter of 6 hours, while powered off, on two separate occasions.
I'd hate to think I just wasted $260+ dollars on a dud piece of equipment but if this persists I'll be returning it by week's end as it looks to be defective.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have the same problem, Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response, just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low message".

Here some of my Hipotesis, It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? its install some days ago trought Itunes.
If the problem is the software? some one know if exist some software to downgrade the software from 1.3.1 to older version?
I found some things about this procedure , but only works to 1.2
    Sorry for my inglish.

  • Average Length For A Nano Battery?

Hey I was just wondering what the average lifetime the ipod nanos battery has. Just curious to see if mine is operating correctly.
Mine lasts about 4-5 hours Im not sure if thats normal

I just did the test described in the link below on the weekend.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61475
It lasted 13+ hours before I went ahead and turned it off (before I went to bed).
The battery was nearly fully drained though, cause the next day it wouldn't turn back on. I plugged it into my USB port and got the un-animated black/white version of the charge icon for about 5-10 minutes before it had enough power to go to the regular coloured battery charge animation.

  • Battery Draining Without Use

I purchased a Nano for my husband for Christmas. it seems that even when he is not using the unit the battery drains. He hadn't used it for about a week and went to turn it on today with no luck. When he is not using it, it is not plugged into any charging device. Is this common for these units? My shuffle can go for a very long time without being used and holds it's charge excellently. Should we get it serviced? Does the battery drain even when not in use? Any help would be appreciated.

well, its sort of like any battery if its not used for a period of time it will start to lose its charge.

  • Battery draining/over heating issues - 925

    hi all,
ive had this issue for a while now but havnt moaned about it until now but ive just had enough of this constant issue and want some help
i have the lumia 925 and have the above simptons, i have the lumia amber update and have disabled every setting and background app the only thing i have enabled and running in the backround are -
touch display is turned on (double tap to wake)
on my home screen i have the apps -  Photos, Battery,  Bing news, The Weather Chanel, set as live tiles
the backround apps i have running are -  Battery, Bing News, Facebook and whatsapp
apart from that all other settings are disabled or off
i can disable bing news if have to but i dont think this is the issue here as before i was having the exact problem
one time i noticed a 30% decrease in battery, not to mention the battery got really hot in hand

    Hey Robert,
If it's anything like my 920, sometimes it gets caught in a CRAZY battery drain cycle. Sometimes it may get hot, sometimes not, but I always make sure that my GPS is working correctly. A lot of times it's not, and I need to reset the phone by either turning it off or holding down the power and volume down buttons.
Especially check any apps that you may have downloaded that may be using GPS. Also, if you do the power + volume down, always turn your phone off again the normal slide down way afterwards or your live tiles won't update correctly.

  • Heating and battery drain

I fully charged my iPhone 4 in the morning and since from that time it is hot and the battery drained with in 3 hours after the full charge.
Can any one help me to fix this..:(

Typing in ALL CAPS is considered shouting, is difficult to read and is rude.  Your help is very much appreciated, but please turn OFF your CAPS LOCK

  • Multitasking on iPod Touch 4G, running iOS 6.1.2, nearly impossible. Opened,  background apps do not seem to stay in memory and must "reload" every time I switch back to them. Also, intense battery drain (imo).

Let's say I'm playing Words with Friends, and also Angry Birds. I may want to go back and forth between the two. When I do so, the app that was in the background needs to reload again. There is no quick access or ability to quickly resume where I left off. And the reloading means that the app restarts from its opening screens...so if I was working on a level, I have to start all over again. And quite often, a game like Angry Birds will lag greatly when I first open it...moving almost in slow-motion.
I don't know if this is typical behavior when playing multiple games, or if I have an issue with my device. I've rebooted and even reset and restored, all to no avail.
There doesn't appear to be as much of an issue if I'm playing one game but also have the music player open, or Safari, Notes, Reminders, etc. Those will resume just fine, though there may be some lag when opening/re-opening them.
So I guess the problem seems to lie within 3rd party apps, and not the apps that are part of the iPod/iOS.
The other problem is battery drain. I do all of my music listening via Bluetooth, so I expect that to have a greater impact than if I were using plugged in headphones, and I have location services turned on. But I have most notifications turned off, all email accounts set to manual and not push, screen brightness turned down and auto brightness turned on, "ask to join networks" turned off, auto-lock is set to 2 minutes but I almost always turn off the screen immediately after setting up my music listening (since I do so at work), volume limit turned on, EQ turned off, sound check turned off,
With these settings, my battery can drain 20% or more within 10-15 minutes of game play. And these are not what I would consider memory intensive games--just Words and Angry Birds.
I've installed (and recently uninstalled) a couple of battery meters from the Apple Store as well--freebies. Carat, Battery Doctor, Battery HD, Battery Magic.
Carat and Battery Doctor seemed to offer the most pertinent and accurate information so the others were uninstalled long ago.
The Accelerate tab in Battery Doctor show the amount of memory in use, and the amount of available memory. The vast majority of the time, the memory in use is approximately 94%. I will occasionally choose to "accelerate" which supposedly frees up memory, but this "bump" lasts only a brief time and I'm not sure it's a great idea.
Even with absolutely nothing open or running, my used memory is generally still above 80%.
Carat, if anyone is familiar with it, shows a J-Score. My J-Score is 17, which means that my performance (according to Carat, anyway) is better than only 17% of the users who have Carat installed. In other words, 83% of people are getting better performance from their devices. It also has "battery hog" and "battery bug" sections. It doesn't detect any hogs or bugs.
I use my iPod Touch in rather limited ways. A typical day consists of approximately 5 hours of music listening via Bluetooth and 30 minutes to 1 hour of playing the aforementioned games. The occasional note and reminder, perhaps a brief check-in with the weather, and that's about it. And wifi is in use only when at home (there is no hotspot at work). Still, I need to charge it every day. I'd be keen to do more with the iPod if I could count on it to last more than a day.
I've read up on multiple forums and blogs for tips on prolonging a battery charge, and believe I've taken everything into account, and applied whatever I could. I've even reset the network settings and try to discharge the battery completely once a month (for supposed battery calibration).
I'm really hoping people can offer some suggestions or comments on whether this is typical behavior or if my battery is going, or even offer some additional tips.
With iOS 7 on the horizon, I'm hoping the upgrade will offer some resolutions (I've read there is better multitasking), but considering how weakly my device performs at this point, I'm not entirely convinced that an iOS upgrade will actually make any improvements.
    Thanks a lot for reading.

No, the app does not have to completely restart. It gets shifted in its open state into storage. Similar to how a computer uses the hard disk when it has insufficient memory.
What complicates things is that sometimes memory does not get returned for reuse when you close an app. Thus yo should periodically double click the Home button and "delete" unnecessary apps from the multitasking dock and power off and then back on the iPod.

  • Dell Venue 8 Pro Battery Drain, Support No Help

I lose a silly amount of battery life when the tablet is not in use.
Battery life isn't great when in use either.
Dell support wouldn't do an exchange because the diagnostic check came back fine.
They did tell me to turn down screen brightness etc., not very helpful because I've tried all that. Stayed on Dell's recommended settings trying to avoid this issue. My sleep study seems to indicate that the unit is rarely in sleep at all.
If a fresh install of windows doesn't fix this. I'm done. And dell support has been anything but actually supportive. If it doesn't fall in a checklist you are sol.

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO THE PERSON THAT SAID THEY DO NOT WANT TO RMA IT//WARRANTY WHEN STILL NEW AND ALSO RELATIVE TO POSTS ABOUT CHARGING WITH BACKUP
I know my response is rather dated, but when you have a severe battery drain issue, just return the unit for an exchange where you bought it.
I know some people mite not have bought it at a "brick" joint, but you should always try to buy your etoolz online, but at a local store for pickup, so you can check it all out and within that window of time offered, return for refund or exchange.
BBuy locally tried to send stuff back for warranty reply, but I always point out the fact it's still under returnable terms, so I can either get a refund or return/exchange and not mess around waiting on my gear.
There are also other ways to buy an other "new" tablet and "exchange" it//the old one also thereby bypassing all stops and go's and getting your new tablet replaced.
I'm always plugged in or on an external battery pack//backup battery pack on DV8Pro anyways, so battery life for me is always longterm.....
For those of you finding you aren't able to charge your via backup battery pack due to cable issues, remember you need a "dumb" usb//"charge" only cable or dumb dongle that makes your cable ""CHARGE ONLY"",,, then it will always charge via any usb powered source.
For example for you that don't understand fully, sometimes devices such as rechargeable peripherals like keyboards and mice and all kinds of non pc devices that now use what appears to be a data cable but is only a charging cable, which does not allow throughput of data due to the fact it's sole purpose is to CHARGE a device, that cable will work.
Like some small radios and bicycle lights and other devices now come with "USB" enabled recharging, and the cables look just like a data cable and will fit a fone, phablet or any standard mini usb plug, those cables are usually CHARGE ONLY, and this is what you need to add to your DV8Pro so it will charge universally bus wise.

  • MacBook Air Mid-2013 Battery Draining FAST (about 5-6 hours at best)

I have been having problems with my Mac's battery draining very fast even on light usage. Simply using Safari will drain my battery in 5 to 6 hours, when my laptop would last the stated 12+ hours before when browsing the internet. I followed these steps yesterday...
    Reset com.apple.finder.plist, com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist
    - Open a new finder window
    - Choose Go > Go to folder. Your destination is ~/Library/Preferences
    - Locate com.apple.finder.plist and rename it to com.apple.finder_backup.plist
    - Locate com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and rename it tocom.apple.sidebarlists_backup.plist
    - Do the same for com.apple.desktop.plist. Note: This file was missing in my folder. If so: nevermind.
    - Open Terminal and type: killall Dock
    Reset your SMC:
    - shut down your system
    - plug in the magsafe
    - hold down shift+ctrl+alt+power for a second, then release. Your magsafe should blink
    - do this three times
    Reset PRAM:
    - turn on your mbp and hold down alt+cmd+p+r immediately
    - hold down the keys until you hear the startup sound the second time
    - release the keys and let the MBP boot.
Give your system some time to adjust to the changes: after a while it should show you a much increased battery time.
...but to no avail, it didn't have any effect on my machine. I'm not sure what to do. :'( Activity monitor shows Safari as having a "10.7 average energy impact" (I don't know what that means in all honesty) and is the highest consumer on the list, with Dropbox being number two on the list saying the average is 1.9 at the moment. I quit background applications so I know that's not an issue — I don't know where to go from here. Also, my battery max/health is 6909 at 97% health, so I do know it's getting a near-full charge. I miss having 12+ hours of battery as that's what I bought this for. Should I go to the Genius Bar and see what they can do?

    Hi hawknelson24,
It sounds like you have been on the right track. If you are looking for more options for troubleshooting your battery issue before potentially taking your Air in for service, you may find the following article helpful:
