Nano (battery replacement)

Just been doing some searching and as we all know the re-chargeable battery will require changing at some point. The worrying part is:
(1) As yet I can't find out how much this is going to cost.
(2) Even more worrying is the statement "Note: iPod equipment that is sent in for battery service or service requiring other repairs will be replaced with functionally equivalent new, used, or refurbished iPod equipment. You will not receive the same iPod that was sent in for service".
With all these "scratched" Nano's around what are we going to end up with.
Mmmm, food for thought, please look after your Nano's just in case I end up with it in the future..!

Sorry, the info was not taken out of context, those are the facts. Before I purchased the Nano I tried to get answers to these questions, (didn't know this place existed before I made my purchase), otherwise I would have had the information I have now. The point is untill you dig deep you don't find the pro's and cons. I get more info from here than I ever got from either the dealer or Apple put together.

  • IPod Nano Battery Replacement

I had a nano which I sold to my brother. The nano was purchased less than a month after the release so the warranty is over. He mentioned to me the other day that his battery was lasting less than 4 hours. I turned off the EQ for him, that has helped a little however, no great amount.
*Has anybody used the battery replacement program? ($60 = iPod exchange)
*Will they give him a 2G nano?
*Should I tell him to go through apple or a third party?(which 3rd party?)
The iPod is great, but less then 1.5 years on a battery is not.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I have not used the 60 dollar exchange program however I did change my own battery. It is a little bit of a challange, but not real hard. You can get one that is a higher capicity then the one that apple puts in the nano. They are around 30 dollars if you do it yourself and a little bit higher if they do it.
You will also get the same type of ipod back, i.e. first gen, you get a first gen.
I have used both these vendors and they have been reliable. Ipodmods.com and ifixipodsfast.com Both are in the U.S. not sure where you are from but you could always google for a third party.

  • Replacing the nano battery with the invisible shield... How?

Does anyone know how the invisible shield will work when the battery needs to be replaced? I am looking for a permanent solution. While I know that I will be able to peel the Invisible Shield off for the battery replacement, the shield will become stretched and distorted. At this point I will not have a shield, and don't have to want to buy another one. The only solution I think would be possible is if there was a way to slice the shield with a razor (around the seam). Any ideas. Perhaps I shouldn't buy the Invisible shield, it might just be a short term solution.
    Anyone?

Actually, I think the more prudent question is whether or not the nano will even be accepted for battery replacement by Apple, or anyone else with a cover like that attached to it.
They could even charge extra money to deal with it, I can see either situation as being realistic.
If that does turn out to be the situation, then it would come down to a matter of costs as far as what you would need to do.
That being said, I personally think it is way too early to even worry about things like that since it is years off at a minimum, and it could very possibly never need to be done.

  • IPod mini battery replacement

I am in the midst of testing my iPod mini for the battery replacement program. My question is if I qualify for the program, will I be sent a new iPod mini, or the current equivalent, an iPod nano?
Any help at all will be appreciatied!

The information on this page says that your replacement will be functionally equivalent to the original, which suggests that you will be sent another iPod mini. You might get sent one of a different color, and if your original iPod mini is gold, you will definitely get another color.

  • Ipod battery replacement

I have a 1st gen 2Gb nano and the battery is well under the 50% and I would like to participate in the battery replacement program. If I take it in to my local store will they give me a 2nd or 3rd generation nano, or would they be able to find a 1st gen.

They won't replace it with a newer model that's for sure.
They'll likely send it away and you'll get another iPod of the same model.
You can do that on-line. Is it out of warranty?

  • Specs of the ipod nano battery

    Hello everybody
My main question is: What capacity does the original ipod nano battery have?
I'm not looking for a 3rd parity replacement - i'm only concerned about the max. charging current given by apple as 1 Amp.
Li-Ion as well as Li-Poly batteries can be charged at a maximum of 1C (0.5A for 500mAh, 0.7A for 700mAh and so on)
higher charging current is quite dangerous and can result in damage or even explosion.
I doubt that the ipod nano batteries really have a capacity of 1000mAh. So i wonder if the current is limited by the ipod itself.
    Does anybody know this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
While I don't know a great deal about batteries, charging currents, etc., I would tell you to just stick with what Apple says.
I'm sure there are other parts inside the iPod nano that could be affected by higher voltages, or there is some other reason for this limit.

Your warranty on the iPod has expired, so this is what Apple say.
"My iPod warranty has expired. What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for iPods that are no longer within warranty. If your iPod, iPod with color display, U2 iPod, or iPod mini requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $59, plus $6.95 shipping.
If you own an iPod, and it requires service for any other issue, Apple will replace your iPod for the service fee listed below, plus $6.95 shipping and handling.
    iPod $249
iPod Nano & iPod Mini $189
    iPod shuffle (1 GB) $89
    iPod shuffle (512 MB) $59"
If it's just a battery replacement you require, there are cheaper options if you Google 'iPod mini batteries'.

  • IPod Nano 1G replacement program

    Hello there,
I have an iPod nano 1st Generation that is eligible for replacement, My nano's battery can handle 1 hour of music before it drains.
I ordered a new battery and one week ago a new battery (OEM) arrived by mail and I opened my iPod to replace it myself, I didn't manage to replace it , ruined the new battery and I ordered a new one.
Then Apple came out with the replacement program!
My question is if Apple will accept the currently opened non-working unit for replacement?
    Thank you,
    ymadar

Enter your serial number here https://supportform.apple.com/201110/ to see if it qualifies for replacement. The program does not care about the unit's condition as long as it is one of the units that is being recalled. I wouldn't mention the battery replacement if  I were in your shoes, unless they ask you for some reason.
Also, here is a video on youtube which demonstrates the return process of your original Nano:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo4Lg0ToVlU .

  • Vintage iPods - No battery replacements available?

Hi, I purchased a 120GB iPod Classic and a 16GB iPod Nano in 2009 and have been told that I can't get replacement batteries for them as they are 'Vintage'.  Neither sustains the battery charge any more.  Any suggestions?  Seems a waste after only five years.

  • Dying ipod nano battery

The battery on my ipod nano 5th generation is slowly dying. It doesn't stay charged for near as long as it used to. I'm going to be going on a couple of long trips soon and I want to be able to listen to it for several hours without having to charge it. The iPod itself works fine and is in great shape. I don't want to replace the whole thing, so is there any way I can have the battery in it replaced?

Yes.  You can choose to go one of 3 routes in this situation.
    1.  Send it to Apple for a battery replacement.  See here for pricing:http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
    2.  Send it to a third party service center.  This will be a bit cheaper than the Apple route, but you'll have to do some research on which place to send it to. A Google search for "iPod battery replacement" should give you a number of results to work with.
    3.  Purchase a replacement battery online and use the appropriate guide over athttp://www.ifixit.com/ to walk you through the procedure of swapping out the battery. I would not recommend this route unless you consider yourself handy with repairing small electronics.

  • IPod nano battery lasting 2 hours. Options?

I've been docking my iPod nano (first generation) on a speaker system I recieved that charges the iPod whenever it's docked. Now, my battery lasts for a maximum of 2 hours. I've been searching for ways to replace the battery, and i've seen the battery replacement system for iPods without a warrenty. Is there a better/cheaper way than that, and is it even worth replacing the battery instead of just getting another iPod? I'm kind of stuck here. Any help is appreciated.

you can try the advice here for getting best battery life...
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
you can see if completely discharging/charging it a couple of times makes a difference
if you've already tried that, there are non-apple (i.e. cheaper!) sources for battery replacement, depends which country you are in, try putting "ipod battery replacement" in google for options
assuming you are in the usa, try...

Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPod purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $49 (iPod shuffle), $59 (iPod nano and classic), $79 (iPod touch) plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

  • If your nano battery is dying

If your nano battery is dying and you need serviceing will they send you one of the new nanos instead of replacing your battery since the nanos battery cannot be replaced and a new unit is required?

We've heard this lots of times... There have been quite a few posts from people saying they got "ripped off" because they bought a Nano right before Apple came out with the new ones... as well as people asking if they can return their old Nano for a new model... or if their old Nano fails (sometimes because they caused it to fail) will Apple replace it with one of the new models.
If someone has a legitimate problem, Apple will usually send you a refurbished Nano if it's past the 14 day point. The only way they will send you a new model is if they no longer have any of the old Nanos left.

  • Out-of-warranty Battery Replacement Program

I have an old Firewire iPod and would like to replace it's battery.
A friend of mine said that really old iPods do not apply for the Out-of-warranty Battery Replacement Program because Apple doesn't replace the battery, but gives a new or a refurbished iPod.
This page ( http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/battery/ ) don't say anything about iPod generation and I also heard that old iPods are replaced by new generation iPods.
I like my Firewire iPod, but i would like to know what really happens in this program, coz i only would replace it for the video or nano ipod. Not any other iPod generation between these and the one i have would please me.

I'm in Brazil and i'm going to the US in two weeks. I would like to know that to decide if i take my ipod to do this battery replacement or not.
Apple Brazil didn't give me any information about the Battery Replacement Program. It's only avaliable in a few countries.
