Nano freeze when finishing sync

iTunes freezes (completely non-responsive, won't close, etc) when it is finishing sync. Doesn't occur all of the time but occurs enough (> 50%) to be incredibly annoying as it ends up basically locking up the system as any apps launched after tend to lock up or not even start. I can kill iTunes with resmon but there is something (service, ??) still lingering and fouling the system up, even a windows shutdown will not complete as it hangs in the process of shutting down.
Latest iTunes (10.4.0.80), Win7. ipod nano multitouch (latest version).
I've tried un-installing & re-installing iTunes. I've scanned the "freeze when finishing sync" and they don't seem to apply; I don't have any iTune add-ins installed and am not using remote drives. I do tend to run close to the limit of the Nano capacity.

My 5th & 6th Gen Nano Freezes when I try to play Charlie Rose, which I get from Audible.com. On the 6th Gen Nano a grey book comes up and it locks up and has to be reset. On the 5th gen Nano it shows the playlist but when I click on Charlie Rose podcast it freezes and it too had to be reset.

Nano freezes when syncing podcast

Whenever i try to sync a podcast to my new nano, it starts a sync bar at the top of the screen but then it just freezes itunes everytime and i have to ctrl alt delete to reopen itunes?

Are you using iTunes 10.6?

ITunes 10.6 freezes when changing sync settings

Update to iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7 computer today. Now when I try to change my sync settings, and hit "apply" - iTunes freezes and the sync does not complete. I have already tried to factory reset the iPod Nano, and tried to totally uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Any other suggestions?

Uninstall/Reinstall did not work. Same issue with freezing as soon as it's launched.
Just to confirm, this is 10.6.3 64-bit Windows build.

I just bought a 8 gb nano but when I sync, it creted album for each different artist that collaborated to the album. How do I create album that includes everyone ?

When I sync my nano, each artist that plaed on the album is got an album created in his name. As for result I got 12 album of 1 songs each . What can I do ?

Why does iPhone 4 take long time when finishing syncing?

I have recently started noticing, after upgrading to 7.0.3 that my iphone doesn't work as well, crashes occur in apps and it's a lot slower to process.
Then I went to back-up my iphone, to my Macbook Pro, as I always do and have recently done since upgrading to 7.0.3.
It goes through the first stages of back-up at a regualr speed.
But when it gets to 'Finishing Sync' .... well, it has been finishing now for over 30mins!
I have alot of Apps on my phone, but have never had an issue with using them before upgrading.
Can anyone give me some advice on what I need to do to prevent this or fix the speed of the sync.
Can I do a partial back-up/sync of importnat things like iCal - when im in a hurry?
My phone obviously won't back up properely if I eject it before it's finished? Love some assistance if anyone has any ideas.

Welcome to our community
Unless something has gone catastrophically wrong, you should never have to perform the uninstall/reinstall/reapply the patch hokey pokey. So that's just wasted effort. There is a simple way to perform what I call the "Factory Reset".

I might question why this is needed at all. Perhaps you are unaware of some things that help you avoid issues with Captivate.
For example:
How many slides are in your projects? We normally recommend keeping projects somewhere between 50-65 slides as a rule of thumb guideline for the upper limit.
Where exactly are your projects residing when you make edits? Frequently we see folks working with projects on a network drive. This is less than optimal and will often cause issues and slowness and project corruption. Work locally off your C drive and periodically copy the project the network server to be backed up.

Freezing while "Finishing sync"

Itunes is freezing or crashing during the 3rd step of syncing IPod touch where it says "Finishing sync". I can do other things on my computer (browse the web, check email) but Itunes freezes. I can cancel the sync from the touch and it works fine. It just seems to not finish syncing. My son has to go to somebody else's house just to put songs on his touch. Anybody have any suggestions?

If you use CA Antivirus and Windows XP, then it is LIKELY CONFLICTING. The solution that I was given that worked for me is:
Development are currently working on a fix for this issue, in the mean time, the following is a tech support work around which will get you up and running again. This change involves disabling the content filtering component of the firewall.
1. Click on start and in the RUN box type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
2. In the device manager click on the menu view and click on "show hidden devices".
3. Now in the device manager list look for "Non Plug n Play drivers" and expand it.
4. Under non plug n play drivers look for KmxCF and double click on it and in the KmxCF properties window click on the tab driver and change the startup type to "Disable"
5. close the device manager and restart your computer.

ITunes freezes on "finishing sync."

My 4th gen iPod Touch will not get off of "finishing sync" in iTunes. It was stuck on "determining which tracks to sync" but then I changed my settings to manual sync. I'm not attempting to load much content, so it shouldn't be that type of issue. Any ideas?

Try a hard reset and go from there.

Black nano freezes after itunes sync

Already did update to 1.1.1.
After i sync nano to itunes, i unplug the nano and play a podcast. It always freezes before the podcast starts to play. I always have to do a manual reboot. Then afterwards works normally until the next time i sync.
Anyone have this problem as well??

I experienced the same symptom.
In my case, every night downloading podcast of CNN News, and NPR news. and when I try to listen it in the morning.
Every morning iPod nano 8GB black freeze, just trying to push PODCAST PLAYing button.
So, I asked to change to new iPod nano 8GB Black at the shop.
but even though after changing it to new one, I couldn't fixed it.
So I tried to find out the bypass way, and finally found it.

IPod Nano Freezes when unplugged with static type line on screen

I've seen a lot about the "white screen" but mine is slightly different. It's a 2nd gen, 4GB. When plugged in, everything works fine. Syncs up, plays music, etc. As soon as it's unplugged, it gets a static looking bar across the screen and everything freezes. If music was playing, it stops, no chance of getting the click wheel to do anything. I've tried the 5r's and have done restores in regular mode and forced disk mode (since I can get the click wheel to work while plugged in). I eject it properly and everything. I'm leaning towards battery issue. Any one got a fairly certain answer ? I'm a technician and can replace my own battery if need be, but I'm new to the iPod so I'm still learning symptoms and solutions here.

I forgot the details:
※ The iPod has Software Update v1.1.3 and recently been restored using iTunes v8.2.1 with no problem during the update/restore process.
※ The iPod works normally; battery charged when connected to PC (USB), internal speaker produces clicks (when using the wheel), screen light works fine, all settings have no problem.
※ The grey horizontal line only appeared when the light goes on (white). If the light goes off (dim), there is no grey horizontal line visible on the screen.
※ The grey horizontal line appeared at a quarter part of the screen (from the bottom of the screen), on the lower part of the Apple icon.

Music disappeared and ITunes freezes when re-syncing: Help!

Yesterday all my music, photos, and video vanished from my 60 gb iPod. Naturally I tried to re-sync, but ITunes freezes every time I plug it in and immediately unfreezes when I unplug. The error message says "The iPod cannot be synced. The required folder could not be found." I went into preferences and checked "prevent devices from syncing automatically," but the iPod still tries to sync when I plug it in and it is impossible for me to adjust any settings within ITunes.
I tried the check disk utility and my computer locks up. I also tried the manual reset, which seems to work, but I can't get the Disk Mode to work properly. When I looked in my iPod utilities, it said that iPod was almost full, yet I can't find any music or playlists despite being able to navigate the menus.
Since the iPod itself seems to be working, I'd hate to have to junk this because some settings can't be adjusted. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Try putting the iPod into [Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363] to stop it from continuously rebooting. Then again attempt to restore the iPod through iTunes. Otherwise it may be the signs of a failing hard drive.
I would maybe check up on taking advantage of the warranty you have on it.

Nano freezes when i try to charge or update

Anytime I try to plug my ipod nano into my PC to charge it or update it, the screen freezes and I have to unplug it and then reset it. I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem or if I need to return my nano.

Nano freezes when turning off vehicle (Volvo station wagon)

I just got a new Volvo wagon that has an iPod interface. I bought a new iPod Nano to hook up to its built-in adapter. When the car is running, it works fine but when I turn off the engine, the Nano completely freezes up and has to be reset.
Any ideas on how to fix thi?

Yes... remove Nano before turning off engine.

ITunes freezes when iPod syncs

Recently my iTunes freezes everytime my ipod syncs. I don't know the causes for it and when I try to add songs or videos it will freeze up everytime. Does anybody have a clue about this? My iPod is 4th generation iPod and I'm using a mac.

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Try just backing up the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. If successful then you can restore the iPod.

- However, you say you have Windows 9, that maybe causing the problem.

Why is itunes freezing when i sync to my touch

Everytime I use Itunes it freezes and im am using the newest version with windows XP. Then if i try to sync my Ipod touch it freezes what is up with this and why is everyone having the same issue. Is it because of the iCloud that i am having these problems. I origianly signed up for iCloud but then realized that it did not sync all my music on to my ipod because i didn't buy more memory. My iTunes keeps crashing when I try to sync my iPhone as well as when I try downloading the newest iPhone upgrade 2.2.1. I just tried to restore my iPhone and once again iTunes crashed (at around 224MB into the download of the upgrade).
I've restarted my iPhone.
Restarted my iMac.
Re-installing iTunes.
Tried installing iTunes 8.0.1 (instead of 8.0.2).
Created a new user to check if that was the problem.
All with no success.
Any help would be much appreciated.
