  • IPod nano Freezes!!!!!!Please Help

Every now and then my iPod nano (1st gen) used to freeze and nothing I could do could get it back to life.......so i would just wait an hour or so and it would come back to life. When the iPod was frozen, the screen would be on, the only thing it responded to was the hold switch (the screen light would turn back on after switching it on and off) and no matter what I did it wouldnt respond (including turning the hold switch on and off and holding down MENU and SELECT). But now it isnt coming back to life and I have tryied EVERYTHING on the apple website including letting battery drain for 48 hours, restoring, resetting it and uploading the newest update to it when it appears on my macbook. Could somebody please tell me weather I should send it in to get serviced because I only have one month left on the one year warrentry or is there another way to fix it. Thank you.

Yes, I would definitely send it in before the warranty expires.

  • My first generation ipod nano freezes on language menu. All a can do is reset it

    Hi!
My 1st generation ipod nano froze today on the menu.
I've resetted it holding the select and menu button and i've restored it from itunes a few times.
Now it freezes on the language menu. It's like the wheel and select button don t work anymore, though they work when i reset the ipod.
I also reinstalled itunes and updated itunes and the ipod OS.
    Same issue.
    Anyone has an idea?

Wait, you guys even censor the word "he_ll"??? It's not even an innapropriate word!

  • IPod Nano freezing + Itunes issue

My Ipod nano 6th gen was working fine since i bought it until today - today when i tried to play the Nano on shuffle it would simply freeze. I could hear the clicks but nothing would happen - it wouldn't play and i couldn't move to another function. i would have to reset the Ipod to get access again. Same thing would happen when i tried to find a song individually - i access a song, click it and then frozen. at the same time as this issue comes up now my itunes cant see my ipod. my computer can see it just fine, just not my itunes.
any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Resetting the Nano was a good first step to solving the problem, but you may need to go a step further.
Open iTunes, and plug in the USB sync cable; leave it in. You'll see an option in the middle of the iTunes display that asks if you might want to restore the Nano. This will erase your playlists, but if you have them backed up with iTunes, that shouldn't be a problem. Let the Nano automatically enter your playlists and files; make sure the transfer is completely finished before detaching the cable.
Everything should be back to normal. Let me know how the intervention went, so I can make sure it went well. And others with a similar problem can refer to the data as well.

  • IPod Nano Freezes / Resets / Skips

My new 3rd Gen iPod Nano randomly freezes on certain videos (in the same spot EVERY time), resets in the middle of certain videos (again in the same spot EVERY time), and even skips (i mean entirely to the next song, not just a stutter) when I listen to certain songs, and of course, it's in the exact same spot every time.
Not to mention some of my Album artwork will display incorrectly, but if I skip to the next song and come back, it displays the correct artwork. But if I go back to the previous song and forward again, the album artwork is...you guessed it, displayed incorrectly or not at all.
I've tested every one of these songs on iTunes so far, and they work fine. I've tested the videos, they're good too. I tried them on my brother's 5.5g iPod video, and they still work great.
I restored my Nano and it didn't help either.
Are these all just bugs in the brand new iPod OS? Or do I need to wait another week for my iPod to ship out and one more week to have a new one shipped back?
This is a bummer. I was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with problems, because I have my iPod engraved. I don't enjoy the extra downtime in requesting a new product
    Anyways, any answers appreciated.

I think it is more likely a 1.0 firmware issue as other Nano 3G and Classic owners are having similar issues (Myself included). I have noted that I get song skips in the same places in certain songs and also a number of MP3's indicate that they are playing but the counter does not move nor do they actually play (They just sit at 0.00 with the play indicator showing). Very annoying when I have it docked on my speakers on random play as I have to keep going over to it and skipping to the next track.
The strange thing is that the MP3's this occur on are often in clusters from the same ripped CD's but it is never all tracks off the CD only a selection of them...
Ah well, hopefull as Apple normally do they will issue a series of fixes over the coming weeks and eventually provide a solid platform. Other than these minor quibbles I think the iPod has moved forward in a positive way but I wish the iTunes developers would get together with iPod and Apple TV developers to ensure they all have the same sorting and display of Tracks (Podcasts, TV Shows etc). For example, TV Shows on iTunes use the "Show Name" field for grouping yet Apple TV uses the "Artist" field ... WHY???? But I digress, sorry!

  • ITunes 7 and iPOD Nanos Freezing

We have had an iPOD mini for a couple of years with no problems.
This week we bought 2 nanos as presents for family members.
We had to download iTunes 7 to talk to the new nanos - since then it has been a disaster.
iTunes can take 5 minutes to start and frequestly hangs or freezes. iTunes doesn't see the nanos or mini without reseting the iPODS each time - even then it can take 2 -3 minutes to see the iPOD. We have tried Apples 5 R's (Retry, restart, re-install, restore, reset) - but no luck.
The PC is an HP Media Center PC (Athlon 64 3500) Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. We have HP Tunes intsalled - I have tried to uninstall but get error message saying we need to update to latest version of iTunes - which we have (7.0.2.16).

It sounds like you have to do a reinstall of both iTunes and QuickTime. Others here are better at explaining the process than I am, but I'll give the overview: Uninstall them both and back up your music library, just in case; you shouldn't lose any of it by uninstalling, though. Then, start fresh with the QuickTime 7.1.3 standalone installer:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html (select the second option for JUST QuickTime)
...and then proceed with the iTunes 7.0.2.16 installer:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
The general consensus, in my view, is that installing QuickTime and iTunes together from one setup file (which is typically the case for most people) causes issues with some computers. Try QuickTime by itself, then iTunes for some better results.

  • Nano freezes itunes and "my computer"

    Hi,
Just bought an Ipod Nano 4gb 3rd gen, it has software version 1.0 and formated for windows. I am trying to use the ipod on my desktop AND laptop both with same result.
Problem is this, as soon as i connect it with the USB cable itunes freezes, at the same time if you try to look at the ipod in "my Computer" this also freezes. The instant that i disconnect the ipod from the computer itunes and my computer respond again.
Further to this i find that on my laptop roughly every 4 minutes iTunes will respond for about 5 seconds before going un-responsive again, to this end i have managed to get 3 photos onto the ipod but as you can imagine it is a little frustrating.
My nano seems to work on other laptops and my old ipod mini works fine with my desktop and my laptop. I'm at a loss... Any ideas or ever heard of this?

Solved, was a software conflict with something that appeared on my add/remove programs list as "USB Toolbox" once this was uninstalled everything worked fine.

  • New 2 gig Nano freezes with I tunes

Alright I searched the forums and found nothing. I have the updated I tunes and a thirty gig and a four gig nano that gives me not trouble . I just got the 2 gig and it makes Itunes go bananas. Can't restore it just freezes can't make it stop syncing the whole thing acts strange . The other weird thing is i get those darn exclamation points on playlists created on i pod not in itunes . I reinstalled itunes,

i had the same problem like two weeks ago. I let my ipod run down (and yes it does take a while) but then once the battery drained i connected it into my computer and it worked again. Then i was unsure about if my ipod had a bug or somthing so i took it into our apple store here and had them look at it... everything seemed to be fine with it! so hope it works soon:)

  • IPod 6th gen.  nano freezes at adding playlists

I reset iPod to factory settings, apply 2 artists for 86 songs, sync'd good. Went to apply another artist or  playlist iTunes froze up. Had to press button to restart computer for each time it freezes up. iPod Classic works fine.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?

  • 8 G Nano Freezing Problems--How Widespread Is It And Another Question

I got this 8 G Nano about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago. Last night it froze. I did the "hold switch on and off" and it worked. Then I did the "center and menu" option which gave me the Apple icon when I turned it on with a prompt to use iTunes to restore the Nano. Since I am away from my computer, I have not be able to do that yet. My questions are: how widespread is the freezing problem and is there anything I can do to lessen the chances of it occuring, and since I got the Apple icon on the screen will I encounter any problems when I do the restore?

I think it would be a little bit of a skewed judgement of how widespread any particular problem is based on the responses on this board. You have to keep in mind that most people come here in the first place because of a problem they are experiencing. So it's likely that the ratio on here would be extremely high. The people that post on here only represent a small number (ratio wise) of ipod users world wide so over all the problems described on here may not be as widespread as it may appear (also keep in mind that other sites where complaints are logged would have the same issue...and it's very likely that a number of the complaints here are reposted on various sites by the same people). On here, I am one of the few people that has not experienced the majority of the issues that others have posted about. I have not had to reset my ipod or do a restore or go through any of the 5 R's. On here I feel like I may be on of the lucky minority but the people around me represent a different picture. No problems with their units with the exception of the on-the-go playlists bug and the initial firmware bugs everyone experienced.
As for experiencing any problems when you go to restore due to you having the Apple icon...in theory I would like to tell you no, you won't have any problems, but the reality seems to be that it's impossible to really predict what will happen.
Hope all works out for you.

  • Black nano freezes after itunes sync

    Already did update to 1.1.1.
After i sync nano to itunes, i unplug the nano and play a podcast. It always freezes before the podcast starts to play. I always have to do a manual reboot. Then afterwards works normally until the next time i sync.
Anyone have this problem as well??

    I experienced the same symptom.
In my case, every night downloading podcast of CNN News, and NPR news. and when I try to listen it in the morning.
Every morning iPod nano 8GB black freeze, just trying to push PODCAST PLAYing button.
So, I asked to change to new iPod nano 8GB Black at the shop.
but even though after changing it to new one, I couldn't fixed it.
So I tried to find out the bypass way, and finally found it.
I hope it will be helpful for this case, too.

  • Nano freezes while playing

This has happened twice since I got the nano 3 weeks ago. While playing a song the unit freezes. Music stops, screen stays on, and all buttons are non-responsive. Can not even turn it off. Toggling the hold button does nothing. It eventually goes off when the battery discharges totally. I have not had a chances to connect to my computer when this happens as it has been with my daughter both times while at school Tried resetting after the first incident and thought it was OK until it happened again today. What is the problem and is there a fix? Anyone else have it happen to them? Thanks.

My ipod experience has not been crash hot from day one. After my mini crapped itself I decided to purchase a nano instead of spending $100+ to fix the mini. I was investigating them for two weeks asking shop people from Apple stores to department stores what they knew about them and the life expectancy of that model. No one knew anything claiming Apple just release a new model onto the market without telling anyone much at all. Anyway I purchased a nano and sure enough 7 days later the nano mkII was realeased onto the market making mine out of date very quickly. From day one it was randomly skipping sections of songs and I thought it was a little odd for an mp3 player. When it was only about 5 weeks old it went to some wierd screen and totaly froze. It would go through the motions of resetting but it wouldn't work. Then the click wheel stopped all together. I took it to apple, waited while the service dept cleared the backlog of complaints and had mine taken away for testing. I was told it would take a couple of days to get a replacement if need be and everything would be alright. A week later and still no phone call so I contacted them and they said they had no idea what was going on or when a replacement would turn up. They could not give me a replacement from the shop because that was "not procedure". I rang apple, ended up in India and with the lady on the other end of the phone reading off the standard response sheet. I had her put me through to Sydney who told me they were sorry for the delay but they are expecting a shipment in 10 days. I was then told if I didn't have a new ipod within a week to ring back and they will see what they can do. HELLO!!! No shipments for 10 days!! Why would I expect to have one within 7 days and why can't you do now what you would do in 7 days??? UGGGH! Now that ( i assume ) they are not making any Gen 1's anymore can I expect to get a refurbished one as the web site states may happen? The whole experiece with apple just gets worse and worse.
