Nano Freezing During Runs
My Nano is freezing during my runs. Then I have to reset it, and I lose the run. I am very frustrated. Any help.
I just lost another run today. Nano locked up at 11.53 miles, no music, dark screen. Went another mile and I later saw it kept track of the total run but when I tried to sync there was nothing. I saw the run was in the history under totals but all other workouts were blank. I ended up resetting then the run vanished in the totals also but when I did reset the recent and last workouts came back still minus the long run. this has happened 4 times to me, twice now on runs over 10 miles, and it has happened three times to my wife on her IPOD. This equipment is only 2 months old, I had a full charge, software up to date and tons of memory available. So I lose 12.5 miles on my current challenge. This is why I bought the Nano and Nike+ in the first place. If I cannot count on it to work then what is the point of having it? Apple we need a sofware fix please.

Great! Maybe they have fixed the lost run problem. I have not had a Nano freeze for a while. I learned not to push power song or feedback near the end of a run and have had no further problems with freezes. (Knock wood!)

Firefox install causes error messages during startup and freezes during running
I installed firefox 20 on Windows 7 and when I reboot I see several messages telling me that I am missing dll files. I have verified that all the dll files are in the install folder. I was able to run firefox without running firebug and just putting up with the annoyance in clicking ok ont he messages at the start. However when I installed firebug and tried to start I have not been able to use the browser since.
Is this already appearing during the boot process or only after starting Firefox?
You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Trying to install visual studio on my mac and it is freezing during the install and I have to reboot, I have run out of ideas as to why it will not install. amy help with this would be greatly appreciated
maybe something is wrong with your install or your computers hardware as in a periodic defect
or the cd is dodgy

Time Machine Freezes During Initial Backup
I have a 500gb external Western Digital HDD I am trying to use as my Time Machine backup drive. The computer I'm using is a 24" iMac with about 250gb of data on it. The external drive is partitioned as a GUID / Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
When I try to run the initial backup, it will randomly freeze during the process. Sometimes it gets halfway through the backup and freezes, other times, right away. Sometimes there is an error, other times there isn't.
I have tried re-partitioning the drive many times, manually starting the backup and also letting the backup start on its own. All of my applications are closed when the backup begins, but no matter what I do, I cannot get the initial backup process to complete.
Ironically, I had the same problem on ANOTHER iMac of mine, with the same model Western Digital drive. The backup would freeze randomly during the initial process but I would keep manually re-starting the backup until it magically finished the backup. Now that computer seems to be working fine.
However, I still can't get this other iMac to work. I find it strange that two separate computers with two separate 500gb Western Digital drives would have the same problem with Time Machine, unless the problem is with Time Machine itself.

Why do you assume it's TM, not WD?
There are many possibilities.
Did you completely erase the drive before formatting it? Sometimes the utilities, etc., that come on new drives can interfere with TM.
Is your iMac an Intel? If it's an older PPC, you need the Apple Partition Map, not GUID.
Is this USB or FireWire? USB is often much slower and less reliable.
If it's USB, does it have it's own power, or does it draw from your Mac? Often there's just barely enough to run a drive; if you have another USB peripheral, it can take enough power to interfere with the disk.
Does it have an automatic "spin down" feature? If so, can you disable it?
Does it have the latest updates? I thing I saw a post here recently that a WD update fixed, but I can't find it now.
Are you running any anti-virus scanning? If so, exclude your TM drive from it.
Sometimes excluding it from Spotlight as well, at least during a large initial backup, can prevent conflicts between TM and Spotlight. -
More that 50% of the time my iDVD freezes during the burning process ruining a blank DVD. Then in freezes out my computer. I have taken it to the Apple store and they run some diagnostics on it get it to work in the store and when I come home the problem starts up again.
Help Please!Could be that your burner is overheating or you don't have enough free disk space to burn a disk. You need at least 5GB to burn. If the burner is overheating, you might try resting the computer for 3-4 hours before attempting a burn. Or maybe running a DVD drive cleaner through it. Might be a simple maintenance issue with the burner or hard drive.
I suppose that you have tried the oft recommended closing down of iDVD and trashing the com.apple.iDVD file located in user/library/preferences, and repairng disk permissions through the disk utility app.
What media are you using? Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R are recommended.
Try burning from a disk image using the disk utility app, at a speed of 4x or lower.
I have no other suggestions beyond recreating the project and/or burning with different media at a slower speed. -
Since a few days my iMac (newest version running Mountain Lion) freezes during TC backups. Since TC is set to backup every hour my computer freezes every hour - the MAC wheel pops up and keeps spinning.
Once I abort the TC backup it takes about half a minute for iMac to become responsive again.
Is there a solution for this problem - of course besides turning off TC and TM.
ThanksThe episode below started at 06.20.32 (it began when TC started backingup). I tried closing an application and launching Console - without success.
At 06.23.11 I tried stopping the backup and shutting down TC (I think it shows first at 06.23.15).
At 06.23.41 my iMac was responsive again.
The info below only covers 06.23.04 till 06.23.45 (it seems way too much data and I don't know what's useful and what isn't).

What causes for an application to freeze during install? and how do I fix it

When I'm looking for problems like that nothing beats a good trace file. Also don't dismiss the idea of programmer stupidity (of the one that developed the app), I've ran across code where exceptions where caught and nothing done about it, just let thing run merrily along again. The cause is usually farther back in the trace than the point it hangs or appears to start having problems. -
Server 2008 sp2 freezes during DPM 2010 volume shadow backup
Hi All,
We have a hyperv guest server 2008 sp2 that freezes during DPM 2010 volume shadow backup.
I presume this is when backing up SQL databases. There are no errors in the event logs.
The sequense of entries in the System event are as follows up until the server freezes.
1) The DPMRA service entered the running state.
2) The Volume Shadow Copy service entered the running state.
3) DCOM started the service swprv with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{65EE1DBA-8FF4-4A58-AC1C-3470EE2F376A}
4) The Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service entered the running state.
After this the entries stop and the new entries are from after reboot.
You cannot send control-alt-delete or connect to the server in any way.
Only hard reboot gets it going again.This is the only server this is happening to.
Please advise if anybody has experienced this and how they resolved.
Maybe I require a Hotfix.This looks similar to what I'm seeing.
DPM 2010, there's one backup set (for me a file server disk) that every time I try to run the initial replica on it the server hangs and needs to be rebooted by iLO. It doesn't just die suddenly, first the data stream on the backup stops then the OS becomes
less responsive but there is no resource issue. trying to open event view will cause a few things to lock up then over a few mins the server is complete froze. like the disk drives have been locked.
Suspecting McAfee, I added in all the exclusions, that didn't help so I added the process exclusions which are done by setting dpmra and csc to low risk and that didn't help either. I could reproduce it just by kicking off a backup for this one file servers
drive so it's easy to test with.
Tonight, I had some permissions in EPO to let me stop the scanning completely and disable the on-access scan and for the first time it worked!
There is definitely an issue between DPM and McAfee beyond what is on MS's web page for AV checks.
I don't have a workaround yet other than stopping the AV completely... Something to follow up on next week. For the moment I made some progress though. -
Freeze during startup after SW update from 10.4 - 10.4.8
After updating to 10.4.8, my machine would freeze during startup (at the gray screen with the apple and spinner) and give me the "Please restart your computer" message in a few languages.
I thought it might be a RAM issue, so I removed all third party RAM - same problem.
I replaced all of the RAM with RAM from another G5 that I know worked - same problem
I moved the HD from my G5 to another G5 that was working - same problem (I believe that eliminates the motherboard and any other components from being the problem).
I thought that the HD might be bad, so I replaced it with a brand new SATA drive, installed 10.4 and it worked perfectly, ran all of the SW updates (including the combined 10.4.8 update) and I get the same freezing again when I reboot.

Ok have you tried starting up from the installer / restore CD that came with the mac and run disk utility??
Try hardware test doing the extended test in a loop to try and find the base of the Kernel panic (thats what the "you need to restart your computer" image indicates)

Power supply freezes after running vi second time

I am just starting my adventures in brave new world of LabView and I run into a problem with my first serious vi which is controling CPX400DP power supply and DPO4104 oscyloscope.
What my vi should be doing:
First it sets current levels of both channels of power supply (e.g. 5V on first, 0V on second) and size of the jump (e.g. 0.5V). Then vi should change both current levels by size of the jump and repeat till the current levels of both channels would be reverse to the start value (in this case, 0V on first channel, 5V on second). Also before every current change the vi would save to file mean of measurements out of the waveform from oscyloscope.
What my vi is doing:
At first run it seems that it's doing everything in order (new text file with resonable numbers is created). However, when I try to run the vi a second time my power supply freezes short after few current changes. I can stop the execution of the vi in LabView (it does take a while though) but to successfully run the vi again I must reset my power supply (turn it off and on).
I tried to go around this problem by modyfing the vi in a way that it would do what I want multiple times during running the vi only once but unfortunately that didn't work.
If anyone would have any suggestions about what I am doing wrong or how to help fix this problem feel free to share I don't bite... much But seriously, I'm stuck with this problem for over a week and I'll be glad for any tips

I'm sorry - I was looking at the manual and failed to realize that the missing subVIs from your code were actually drivers for your power supply, so you may not be able to implement this (unless the drivers themselves have the "Operation Complete" capability - hopefully the drivers came with documentation). Else, you may be stuck having to hardcode waits after each command.
If you wrote your own drivers, this is how you would send the command to set output 1 to 1 Volt:
V1 1;*OPC?
The V1 1 sets your voltage to 1 Volt. To tack on another command, you use the semicolon. The *OPC? command forces it to return send a "1." SInce the commands are acted upon sequentially, the power supply can't send the "1" until it is done processing the command to set it to 1 Volt. After that command is complete, the "1" is sent, you read the 1 out of the buffer and move on. This avoids issues where you pile on too many commands at once. I checked the manual and it supports this feature.

Cancel the sync and try again. But, before you do, make sure you have turned off any firewall/anti-virus software you have running. This often is the root cause of failed sync's.

IMac is freezing during start-up from OS X installation disk
My iMac 27" is freezing during re-installation of the complete machine from Leopard OS X installation disk. The machine ends up (also in safe mode) with a screen showing something like "horse steps in the snow" as shown in both pictures, which can be seen on:

Can we assume you mean your Snow Leopard installation disc & that it is a grey one that came with this iMac?
27" iMacs are new enough that they can't run Leopard (OS 10.5), nor can they run some of the earlier versions of Snow Leopard. The installer on the disc should check for this & refuse to attempt an install if it is the wrong one, but if you are trying to boot from the disc to start the install it will never get that far. This is because the earlier OS versions lack the necessary extensions to support the latest hardware in the iMac. Thus, a safe boot won't help since there is still no source for them.
Also, if you have installed any aftermarket memory modules, it is possible they are not fully up to spec & incapable of running Snow Leopard. You may be able to verify this by starting up from the Apple Hardware Test, which you run from the original grey system disc by following the instructions printed on it. If you get an error with "MEM" in it, it means one or more memory modules is defective. If they are aftermarket ones, contact the supplier for replacements. If they are Apple-supplied modules they are covered by a one year Apple warranty (or 3 year one if you bought the Applecare protection plan). -
Time Machine freezes during automated backups
I have a Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.6.4 that freezes during incremental time machine backups. The initial backup will run fine, but during a subsequent backup the machine will always lock up and need to be restarted.
I've tried repairing the permissions looking for trouble in log files, but haven't had any luck.

Try verifying your internal HD, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). If that fails, you'll have to use your Install disc to repair it, per the yellow box there. -
Premiere Freezes During Capture
I have a problem with Premiere freezing during capture, consistently at 17 minutes, around 25 seconds.
I am capturing from a Blackmagic Decklink SDI card, 720p 59.94, ProRes 422 HQ. I've also tried LT.
I am running Premiere 6.0.2 on OS 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro. My 1TB disk is empty and still has 900GB available after 17min of capturing.
Any ideas?I have the exact same problem. The diference is im capturing from another device (Sharp Video 8 camera connected to BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt). Premiere doesnt freeze, only the capture window shows freezed image, at some random point, first it was almost like afer 1hr of recording but now is at any time, sometimes after secconds. Sometimes i can still hit stop and the filename window appears so i can save the file, but other times it doesnt. I hit stop and nothing, so i try to hit record again and it starts recording again, i can tell because another file is created, but the previous file is corrupt (i suppose because it isnt closed by premiere).
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 16gb RAM 512 GB SSD, i dont think the computer has no capacity for handling this...
