Nano frozen in lock

My Nano is stuck in lock; it is all lit up and looks like it wants to work, but nothing happens. Have tried unlocking - it seems like the switch may not be making contact! Nothing shows up when I plug into the wall AND when I plug into the computer. It worked 2 weeks ago...now nothing. Help! Please???

okay i just read a couple more posts and i actually fixed it, so if you're having the same problem as me, maybe this will work.
"Have you tried resetting your iPod? Go ahead and try it again, just to make sure that you're doing it the correct way:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times. (leave it on the white side of the switch area, which is the Off position)
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
You might need to try this quite a few times. For more effect, try connecting your iPod to a power source while you reset it."
I did that and it shut off, then turned back on, and now it works fine.
Good Luck!
Hope it works for you!

  • HELP! nano frozen in lock mode

    Hi there,
While listening to my nano yesterday, as always I put it on hold to save power, and I accidentally dropped it on the floor face-down. Since then, the click wheel has been frozen in lock mode and is unresponsive. I have tried toggling the hold button back and forth many times, as well as trying to restart my ipod, in addition to letting it play until the point the battery dies and then connecting it to power (I read this may help?), all to no avail.
Are there any ideas as to how to solve this problem? Will this problem just stop on its own?
    Please help! Thanks in advance.

Update: I just went upstairs to try the hold switch again, and I had this thought: this whole problem started when I dropped my iPod while it was on hold, so why can't I drop it again? So I smacked it (when I say smack, I really mean a little harder than a tap) a couple times on a hard surface and guess what? It works again! I'm sure this didn't solve the problem long-term and that I will need to get it repaired in the near future, but for now my problem is solved! I'm kind of afraid to touch the hold button now, though.
I might still send it in for repair just to avoid this happening again in the future, but only if it happens again in the next couple days/weeks.

  • Nano Frozen in Lock (hold) Mode

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this - I'm new to this. Anyway-
My ipod nano is frozen. I know how to restart it normally; but the problem is that it's locked in off.
    - I turned it off then locked it.
    - I unlocked it and it wouldn't turn on.
    - I tried to restart several times but got nothing.
    - I plugged it into a charger and it comes on but you can't do anything since it's still locked.
    - I tried switching the lock on and off but it was still stuck on lock.
    - When I unplug the charger from the Nano it goes right back to off.
    HELP!!!

  • Nano frozen in locked position

My nano is frozen in the locked position, therefore I cannot reset it. I have seen this question but no real answers. Should I just return the nano?

I bought my Son the Nano 4gb; anyway after about 1 week it completely froze. So I brought it to the Apple Store and they hooked it up to their computer and reset it; loosing everything of course but at least it was working. They also said if it kept happening to come in and return it. Now this morning it happened again; I tried numerous things and none of them seemed to work. I wanted to try plugging it in directly to the Wall adaptor. So as I am walking around the house looking for where my Son might have put the Wall Adapter it all of a sudden went on; I don't know if it's from the warmth of my hand or maybe my hand was squeezing something for a while; I am not really sure. One thing I did notice though is that both times that this freeze happened it was raining for days on end; so maybe it's sensitive to Humidity.
After doing a lot of research online this Freeze Problem seems to be a big issue with the Nano. And the Apple Store knew what to do right away like they were used to doing it. If there's a Bug with the Nano then Apple should fix it and recall it; replacing it with New Nano's.

My Ipod nano says its locked and screens on and it's staying frozen.  I have tried pressing the menu and select button simultaneously and still not reset.  What should I do?

Right click on the iPod Nano icon.  "Eject" should pop up.  At least that is the way it works on Macs.

  • Ipod frozen on lock mode

My ipod is frozen on lock mode and i have a big flight in a few hours what do i do??  My computer won't even reconize when my ipod is plugged in and neither does my ipod.

Important: If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. If so, a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen.
If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, the steps to reset it vary by model. You can easily tell which iPod model you have if you're not sure.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time are preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.
    To reset iPod shuffle:
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position.
Tip: When iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.
    Wait 5 seconds.
Move the switch to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position. For iPod shuffle (2nd generation), slide the power switch on (and you can see the green stripe).

My iPod nano has a lock on the screen. How can I unlock and use my iPod?

Do you know there is the lock/unlock thing on the top or bottom right? If that doesn't work, hold down the middle circle and top portion of the circle button at the same time and hold until the screen goes black. Let go and soon an apple will appear. If you wait / press some buttons (i am not sure exactly how this part works) it will turn white and then the screen will appear again. You have all your music and everything still but the problem should be gone. This also works if your iPod ever freezes.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Nano 3g frozen in locked mode

Today while trying to update my music my Ipod froze. I tried to lock and unlock it. Now it is stuck in pause mode with the lock icon on the screen. I can't get it to unlock, play, turn off, nothing. It is stuck on and completely unresponsive. Any Ideas?

That would be great if the unlock button responded.
I have a frozen display, unlocking does not enable the buttons to allow reset and it will not mount.
And I have study material in it for my exam later this week...annoying but I can get other copies.
I think I will have to wait for the battery to go flat - the screen is still on so I hope this only takes a day or two.

  • Please help. Nano is frozen and lock is visible in the display.

While listening to the music and the ipod locked (visible in the display)I tried to get the lock off. That was not possible. I tried to reset it, but that did not work either. (Menu and select button). By connecting or disconnecting from the computer will not help either.

Try the 5R's for iPod support (especially try restoring your iPod):

  • Nano Frozen

I've had my iPod nano 10 months now without any real problems, but now the lower part of my screen is frozen. The hold lock, time and battery level all still work but the rest is stuck in the main menu. I've tried resetting my nano but it didn't work. Any advice?

If resetting it didn't work, try restoring it.

  • I pod nano frozen

my ipod nano is frozen its the new one generation 5 i think and i had locked it but its not showing the screen to unlock it and i tried the R's thing i know i need to restore it but when i plug it in to the computer the little icon doesnt pop up that shows that its plug into the computer help!!!

Am I correct that you're getting the "Enter Code" screen, but your iPod is not being recognized by your computer when you connect it? Or is this the Hold switch "lock" symbol that you are referring to?
If the first case is so, then let's first try forcing your iPod into disk mode.
For instructions on how to do that, see this:
    Putting iPod into disk mode
With the iPod in disk mode, connect it to your computer, and see if it gets recognized in iTunes.
If it does, then let it sync through with iTunes, eject the iPod if needed, and disconnect it.
After doing that, your iPod should be past the "Enter Code" screen (although the code will still be stored on your iPod).
If this issue was the second possibility (that I can think of) with your issue, then have you tried rapidly toggling your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth many times? After doing that for a little while (perhaps for 15 seconds), connect it to your computer, and see if that works in any way for you.
