Nano frozen on selection screen.

Howdy,
My iPod nano is stuck on the main selection screen. When I attempt to connect it to my computer iTunes will not recognize it, but the iPod will charge and shows the "Connected" screen. I have reset it numerous times using the Menu/Select method, and attempted to put it into Disk Mode to no avail. I do not care about losing the music - I have that all backed up. If anyone could be of assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Any info is helpful.
Thanks!

Hello Keith,
It would be helpful to post your solution, just in case someone else runs into your same situation.

  • 2 ipod nanos - frozen on language screen

We have 4 total ipods and 2 from 2008 (4th gen) are both stuck on the language screen. I have tried to reset both (multiple times), restoring, using different ports, updated to latest itunes, tape, etc. It seems strange that the earlier models are working perfectly fine. What can I do to get them unfrozen! I'm very frustrated!

    Hello All;

  • Nano frozen on language screen

This is ruining my son's Christmas! It's all he asked for, and all he got and it won't work!!
We installed the software and when it said to connect the ipod we did. The screen to select the language came up and it won't go away. Toggling the hold/off switch will not turn it off, nothing seems to work. And of course, I called support 4 minutes after they closed.
    Can anyone help me?
ipod nano 4 gig   Windows XP

To the best of my ability I have tried. I have moved
the hold button to the right and back to the left and
then I pressed the center circle and the pause/stop
button at the same time, being careful to hold it for
    a 6 - 10 count, but nothing happens.
You need to hold menu+select, not select and play.
With some computer setups, some iPods have been freezing when first connected. It will work fine afterwords.
If you visually want to see what you have to do, then look here and hit play the movie...

The first part of the movie should talk about the reset.
It may take a few attempts to get it to reset. Be sure to go back to that link King Cole provided (reset) if it doesn't work for suggestions.

  • IPod Nano frozen on "Connected" Screen

    Hey guys,
My mom gave me her old nano (4th gen) and it was out of bateries when I plugged it in. It turned on and I had it forget what was already on there and put all of my music on it. Once it was finished it told me I could take it out, so I did, but any buttons I was pressing weren't working. I quickly realized that the lock icon was on, but the lock toggle wasn't on lock. I playyed around with that toggle and tried the menue and home button thing, but nothing worked. I decided to plug it in to restore it and while it was restoring a notification came up that said that I had taken the nano out of the connector, but I hadn't. When I did, nothing changed and it is still lit up with the sign "Connected. Eject before disconnecting." Not sure what else I can do. It's possible that it's just old and done I guess but It would be awesome if someone had a soloution because I have an early flight tomorrow and it would be awesome to have an iPod Thanks!

Sounds like there are a few problems, the first being that the hold switch is damaged and in need of replacement.  You can try to restore it again using another known working 30 pin connector cable as there is a possibility that the current one is faulty or damaged. If the restore does not resolve the issue, I'm afraid having the iPod serviced or replaced is your only option.

  • My nano won't turn off, and it is frozen on one screen?

My nano won't turn off, and it is frozen on one screen?

Could it be something as simple as the Hold switch got turned on? I would try resetting it.
This will work for Nano's generation 1-5.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) button simultaneously until the  Apple logo appears, about 6-8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    For a 6th Generation:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for 8-12 seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
    For a 7th Generation:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home Button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.

  • Nano Frozen Between Screens

My Nano is frozen between the Menu and Now Playing screens. Both are partially visible. It will not reset or respond at all when plugged in to wall outlet or PC. It is also not being recognized in ITunes.
    What should I do?

I am experiencing the same problem but none of the solutions work. Tried pressing and holding the two buttons as instructed, tried all the dreaded Five R's (more than once through entire cycle with no luck), and nothing. This is my second Nano 8 Gb (2nd gen). First one had same issue and I had to replace it. Great product but latest software is very buggy. Any additional ideas? When my battery dies again (when frozen like this screen is constantly on and slowly drains battery), should I do something different? Since I've gone through this with two Nano's now, I've tried every combination of things I could think of and that were suggested here and elsewhere on web. Thanks!

  • SELECTION SCREEN INPUTS FROZEN

    Hi Guru's
I have prepared a web dynpro java application using standard bapi. I have used 'tray' under which selection fields and output table is created. However, after deployment selection screen input area becomes read only that is it freezes. Please help me asap.

    Hi,
You might be trying to display your output in the table.
    1. Check that you have binded proper values to the table datasource.
    2. Check the size of the node binded to the table.
You can write this line to know the size of the output node returned after executing the RFC.
    wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess(wdContext.node<nodename>().size()+"");
If the size is 0 that means that your BAPI is not returning anything.

  • Ipod is displaying "Disk mode OK to disconnect" and is frozen on that screen.  How do I get out of that screen?

My Ipod Nano is frozen on the screen "Disk Mode OK to disconnect" and has a large check mark.  How do I get it out of this screen?

    Hello there,
Have you tried a reset yet?
To do this on an older nano with a click wheel, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If it's a 6G Nano, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons together until you see the Apple logo.
    Any luck there?

    Hey
I don't know if my mac book air is frozen, but the screen is gray with the apple logo in the middle of the gray screen, with the 'booting' icon turning round and round. I have switched it off fron both the power and power button on the computer, it goes off, when I put it on, same screen comes on again. Help Please!

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 3
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 4
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 5
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 6.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 7
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 8
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 9
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 10
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 11
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • My iPod is stuck on Language Selection screen

My iPod Nano 7th generation is stuck on language selection screen. Language can be selected but "Done" button cannot be pressed.

Sounds like a hardware malfunction with the device.  Could be the clickwheel itself or the logicboard.  Either way, you'll need to send your iPod in for service if you want to be able to use it again.

  • IPad Netflix Title Selection Screen Freezes

(Totally tried to see if a similar issues was posted already, couldn't find one so apologizes in advance if this is redundant.)
I just recently got Netflix (A touch behind the times, I know.) and got it working on my computer right away. Next I downloaded the apps for both my iPhone 5 and my iPad 2 (Wifi-only).  The issue I'm having is when I load up the Netflix selection screen and click on a title, the screen pops up with all the information about the title (how many episodes, synopsis, etc.) and the app just locks up at that point. The rest of the device is fine, I can access other apps and do other things, but the Netflix app is totally frozen until I reboot the device.  I am only having this problem with my iPad, and I even tested my internet by using my iPhone - I used my data plan to launch the app (no problem, no glitches, no freezing) and then I switched it to "wireless only" and tried it again.  Once again, no issues at all, so the problem only seems to be with my iPad.  I can resume shows already in progress, it's just the title screen (so far - haven't gotten any further into the app yet than that) that seems to be locking it up.  I spent some time working with a Netflix representative and they suggested the usual; reboot the device (check.), reboot the network and modem (check.),  test with another device (check.), check with data versus wireless (Could only do this with my phone and not the iPad since it's only wireless.), call the ISP and have them do a modem reset on their end (check.) So, I've done all these things that the Netflix forum suggested and my ISP said to do... (I even did a speedtest to see what my wireless was kicking out and it was 5mbps (roughly) which is not super insane but should be enough to stream netflix... right??) So now I'm stuck. I don't know who else to ask except the Apple Community. Any thoughts?  (Oh, and I made sure cookies are on.  Saw some kinda-similar issues that were resolved with making sure cookies were on.)
    Thanks in advance!

Just an update on this - I haven't really done anything to fix it, but with time (maybe internet cycles, who knows?) it seems to be working okay most of the time. So, looks like resetting the internet and minimizing things that will eat bandwidth helps.  Sorry there isn't more of a concrete resolution than this. If anyone has found anything more precise, please let me know! Thanks so much!
