Nano gift for mother...can I set it up for her at my computer then mail it

I just bought my mom the nano...I got mine for christmas and love it. I want to get hers set up, load some songs and then fedex it to her with an itunes gift card so she can download some songs herself. Is this possible...if I am the first person to open the ipod and start putting songs on, will it mess her up from starting it up on her home computer with her own itunes account?

If you set the iPod up it won't stop your mother using it. However unless you set it to manual update before you send it then she won't be able to use it on her own computer without erasing what you put on. You might want to consider sending it as it is along with the gift card and let her be the first to set it up then she can choose her own method of updating. She may prefer to update automatically for instance:
Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod

  • Our family has 1 Apple id. My sons received many itunes gift cards. Can I set up sub-accounts under my id? If I create new ids, will they lose access to the content purchased under wmy id?

Our family has 1 Apple id with 2 itouches, 1 ipad and 1 iphone.  My sons received several itunes gift cards. Can I set up sub-accounts under my id and deposit their gift cards into them (like a bank account)? If I can't, it seems that I will have to keep track of each of their purchases until they reach the limit of their gift cards, before they go over.  This makes no sense.  If I have to create new ids, will they lose access to all the content purchased under my id?

    - You can't create subaccounts.
    - You can create new account(s). The media on the iPod is still usable. It does create more work when updating apps since yo have to sign into the account that purchased them to update them. If you have apps purchased from more than one account that need update you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased with one account.
    - To change accounts for purchasing go to Settings> Store (or Settings.iTunes and App store depending upon the iOS) and sign out and sign in with different account.

  • Can I set up iTunes account in 1 country and then use it in another

Hi, I have upgraded my iPad 1 to an iPad 3. I want to set up and send my old iPad 1 to my great auntie (86) in the UK, I am in Spain.
I started setting it all up for her setting the country as uk, creating an Apple ID etc... But when it comes to iTunes, the Spanish shop opens and asks me to set up the Apple ID for iTunes. my question is can I set everything up from here ? download the few apps I think she will want and send her the iPad and she will have no problems,  or is she going to have problems as the details will be of a Spanish account, I am probably going to have to give my credit card, and the iPad will loose the apps , or won't let her create a uk account further down the line ?
Thank you, she will not be able to set it up herself so if I cannot set up from here I am going to have to find someone to do it for her over there.

You can only use the Store in the country where you are resident.  Items purchased in store in another country will no longer be accessible for redownloading when you change country but you can keep on using them as long as you have a copy on your computer.
It is not easy to change country and requires a valid billing method with a physical billing address in the other country.  There is also a 90 day wait period between country changes.  Furthermore, it is against the terms of service for the iTunes Store to even use your own country's store while not in your country, much less use another country's store.
"The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE  (reads the same for pretty much any country).

  • The back up is on my work computer. Can I set it up as a new iphone and then later upload the info from itunes

    Hi,
My phone got stolen and I just got my replacement iphone 4 today. I don't have the itunes back up on my computer, but I do have it backed up at work. I want to start using th phone- can i set it up as a new phone and then update it in a few days when I get to work.
    Thanks

Yes, but the first time you sync with a new iTunes library it will delete any iTunes media an apps from your phone and replace them with the media in the iTunes library your are syncing with (purchased apps and music can be redownloaded for free: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).
When you get to work, connect your phone to your computer, then right-click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar and choose Restore From Backup.

  • Can you set up 2 iTunes accounts on one computer?

Can you set up 2 iTunes accounts on one computer?

I had two accounts on one computer until recently. You need to use two user accounts on the computer. Note, I say I did it until recently, therefore I'm not able to confirm this still works, but assume it does.

  • Can i set my iPhone 4 as a new phone then use iCloud to get information from before restoring the phone?

Can i set my iPhone 4 as a new phone then use iCloud to get information from before restoring the phone? I've restored my iPhone 4 thru iTunes and now trying to set it up using iCloud but it says 'no back ups available'.
I was upgrading my OS system thru iTunes but the plug on my macbook came out and battery ran flat half way thru. This jammed my iPhone 4.
I think it's to do with the OS system. That if i take it to the previous OS system it might work. But since i'm in phone set up mode i can't get into general setting to change it back.
So can i set it up as a new phone and then use icloud to restore info? Or shld i set it up thru iTunes and then iCloud (but since it jammed half way thru upgrading and i've restored i don't think iTunes has any of my previous info)? Or is there something else i can do?

No. You can set up as a new device or restore from iCloud or iTunes. It looks like you backed up with iTunes, so you can't restore with iCloud. To backup your device in iCloud, go to Settings > iCloud and activate it

I have a personal iTunes account set up on my laptop, but I need to create an account for my school. Can I have two iTunes accounts on one computer?

I think you can. But issues can happen when you sync, transfer, and back-up with itunes on computer.

  • Can I set up my dads ipad on my computer, or does the set up have to be done onhis

Can I do the set up for my dads ipad on my computer, or does the set up have to be done on his. On computer

You are really best off in setting it up on the computer that will be used for back ups and itunes.   The pad will only respond to a single machine.  If you set it up on yours, the first time he goes to update it, it will erase the contents and try to start over.

  • Can I set up a smtp server in my computer?

My smtp is never working, I am wondering if I can set it up so my computer can send the email without having to log onto some distant places and hope my email will actually send...
    thanks

As Ernie provided, try changing the SMTP server port used by the SMTP server from 25 to 587.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work and your neighbor will not provide his/her ISP's SMTP server to enter and use to send messages with your account (which is invisible to all recipients), your options are using webmail access for the account to send messages or using Postfix Enabler.
