Nano is responsive -- but screen is blank

Hey all...
I've got a 4th gen nano that's currently not working. It's completely responsive -- I can play music, hear the scrolling sounds etc etc. The screen, however, displays nothing but various background colors -- mostly shades of white. For example, the screen brightness will reduce after a 10 second timeout and the screen color even changes color to a light gray when I reset the ipod. It was dropped a little while ago and I suspect that's what's causing the issue. Unfortunatley I'm afraid it's a hardware issue, but figured I'd post here just in case there was something I missed...
I've tried resetting the nano (menu + center button) and restoring it to factory default settings (via the iTunes page). Any other suggestions

If you've already done a Restore, I don't think there's anything else you can do, short of taking it apart and doing a hardware repair.
It sounds like the screen's backlighting is still working, but the video signal to the screen is not getting through.
This place has well-illustrated repair guides, if you're good a such things

    Hello waseem.abdul_hadi,
It may be that your Screen Curtain has been activated. This can be deactivated by triple-tapping the screen with three fingers.
Turn the screen curtain on or off. Triple-tap with three fingers. When the screen curtain is on, the screen contents are active even though the display is turned off.

  • I have 60gb ipod classic.  Music plays, but screen is blank or white.

I have 60gb ipod classic.  Music plays, but screen is blank or white.  Resetting has not worked.  Lines show when reset, but no Apple logo.  Is display shot?

    Hello Paul,
I would be concerned too if my display on my iPod classic was not working.  I recommend going through the steps in this tutorial.  If it is a software issue, these steps should resolve the issue:

  • TS3274 Ipad 1 was dropped, screen is intact, can hear it still works but screen is blank, tried to restore but it failed? Help

    Hi,
My Autistic son dropped his ipad and now the screen is blank? The sound still works and I can hear the apps working but the screen is blank. The screen is not broken or chipped at all. I tried to restore it (as the Apple Store recognises the Ipad when I plug it into the computer) but the restore failed with an unknown error numbered 3194.  Does anyone know if there is a quick fix for this or do I need to send it into an Apple Store for repairs? I live on a small island so taking it into a store isn't an option unfortunately, plus my non verbal Autistic son is VERY distressed, so any quick resolution to enable to screen to be visual again would be a massive help please. Thank you

  • Outlook icon on ipod shows incoming mail, but screen is blank.

My ipad announces incoming mail, and even previews it on my ipad desktop.but when I hit the icon, the screen is blank except for the tool bar, and then it automatically returns to the desktop. The only way I can read my email is if I go on webmail through the internet. I don't want to delete my email account and add it back as it says I will lose my contacts on my ipad. Any suggestions?

Guys!!! You won't belive this... but finally I found a solution!!!
Mail App refuses to download new incoming mail because there is some mail having trouble with the App like Spam and Drafts Mails.
My solution was erase all the mails in the spam box location and the one in Drafts box location. Then resync and That's it!.
I've been googling by like 2 days and didn't found a thing. All the credit is for Outook who was able to download all Mail that Mail App Couldn't.
    Cheers!!

  • IPod comes on but screen is blank

I was listening to my iPod, no problems whatsoever, stopped the audiobook I was listening to and now the screen is blank except for the iPod up in the left corner and the battery symbol (full) on the right. I can't even get it to turn off! What's going on? Do I have to take it back, it's still under warranty but I sure hope I can reset it or something?

try holding down the home button only for about 10 seconds (this is basically a force quit).
after your try reseting, if it works or not, sync your ipod with itunes and do a restore.

  • Screen lights up, music plays, but screen is blank

I have just recently sent in my first ipod mini to the Apple repair service. They sent me a replacement ipod. The replacement worked fine for a while but is now acting up.
The screen lights up, and the music plays just fine, but the screen is blank.
I have tried to plug the ipod into my computer - itunes does recognize it and updates it.
I have also tried to reset and restore the ipod, but to no avail.
I have contacted Apple repair services again, but they want me to send in the proof of purchase...but this is the replacement ipod that they had sent me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Just try filling out the online form...
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod
If the bother to call and ask for the proof of purchase through that, then just say that it is an exchanged iPod.
See when they say this one was purchased. Go to the link below and on the right a few scrolls down the page there is an about your apple product box. Enter your Serial Number. If it is under a year there, you need not send anything in...

  • My 6th generation nano is unresponsive.  Its fully charged but screen remains blank

Had nano for less than a year.  Last week I tried to turn it on but the screen flickered and went out.  Since then, the nano has been unresponsive, even after restoring and charging the battery numerous times.

This same thing happened to me recently.  I had to reset it, by pressing the middle button and the play/pause button at the same time.  This can be tricky to do, so try it a couple of times to make sure you are pressing it correctly. Hope that works for you, I was relieved when it worked for me.
    Good luck,
    christi

  • My Nano 6th gen's screen went blank--is there an easy way to reset this? This is my 4th unit within one year--come on Apple I expect more from you.

My screen is black. But the unit works...I touch the black screen and can get music to play. I only use my nano during work out...nothing extreme. I received my original nano 12 months ago. Due to other issues this is my FOURTH nano...come on Apple...

I don't think it's possible anymore. I'm mildly surprised you were able to keep podcasts in regular playlists this long - I thought this option disappeared back with iOS7.
I do share your pain. I've finally grown used to having the podcasts in a separate app, but I still don't like it.

  • Nano works great BUT screen remains Dark?

Everything works great, music transfers, playing BUT my screen remains very dark (but just light enough to see all the menu's and songs!). Messing with the backlight setting has no effect. Am I missing something or is it damaged?
I've updated the software and also used the restore feature but nothing can get it back. It's a 4G colour nano.
    Any ideas?

also - i connected my digital camera straight to the monitor via USB and it doesn't display. I've never tried that before with my camera, but it seems like if the monitor is powered on, connecting it to the camera would cause the pictures stored in the camera to show up on the display.

  • IMac is starting up but screen is blank/dead? Help!

    Hi.
Our iMac is starting up.....I can hear it loading. However the monitor screen is completely blank/dead with no backlight.
This has just happened. I have switched it off and unplugged from the mains before trying again but no luck!
    Could anyone advise?

  • Apple TV is working but screen is blank

My Apple TV appears to be working fine, as the led blinks when I use the remote, and I'm able to play songs from iTunes Library, but I can't get anything to appear on the screen.
    What I've tried so far:
1.) Connecting with both HDMI and 2 different sets of component cables. (not leaving HDMI plugged in while using component)
The TV recognizes that there is a signal there, with each different set-up. SO I've ruled this out
2.) Holding down menu + for 6 seconds to cycle through the resolutions.
This cycles through and the TV recognizes several, but no picture ever appears.
3.) Holding down Menu - for 6 seconds to do a factory re-set.
This worked, the LED turned amber, and the Apple TV played the initial startup sound, but I never saw a picture.
4.) Unplugging everything for 15 minutes, and then reconnecting it all
Nothing I do seems to work.
The apple TV worked fine last week, before I had internet. I went out of town for a week and had Fios installed, then plugged in the ethernet cable, and went to turn it on and now I've got nothing.
    please Help

To be certain you might want to try the Apple TV with another TV, but it may well be that the graphics have failed on the Apple TV.
