Nano is setup in Mac and I need need Windows software

I got my Nano as refurbished and it has Mac software. I have a laptop with Windows XP and a desktop with Windows Vista. I use the restore to Windows download and it keeps erroring out. I was told there is a manual fix and this is a known problem. Can anyone help me with this? I've been working on it for 10 hours with nothing but frustration.

An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.

How do i share itunes music? I have a Mac and she is on Windows. She does not have an iTunes or iCloud ID.

You could install iTunes on her PC, then sign in using your ID and activate her computer (iTunes menu bar: Store Authorize This Computer) in order to download your previous purchased media files.

Thanks Kappy, I let it do the scan and when it stopped halfway through and demanded registration I stopped and deleted it.  I still have the icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and don't know how to remove it.  If this is not possible I can live with it.  I am new to Mac and have trouble divorcing myself from my old PC habits!

  • Can I install Linux for Windows on my Apple Mac and afterwards use old windows programs as PageMaker on my new Mac. If yes where can I find Linus windows for Mac

Can I install Linux for Windows at my new Mac and afterwards use old Windows programs as Photo Shop and PageMaker on my Mac? If yes where at the Internet can I find Linux for Mac and Windows?

What is your definition of a "Linux for Windows" ?
There is Linux like Ubuntu which can be installed on a Mac
    See the UbuntuForuns here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam
And there is Microsoft Windows which can be installed and used on a Mac with Apples BootCamp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ or through Virtualization apps like Parallels, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox.
Windows Programs don't run in a Linux only in Windows.

  • Setup of Macs and peripherals

Hi. I have the following equipment: currently setup and working individually:
3 x imacs- all quite new 2 very new and one thicker one with dvd drive all 21.5 inch imac
    1 x usb scanner
    1 x usb brother printer
1 x usb/ethernet/ wireless (wifi) brother colour printer (having trouble with any single machine to setup) and having trouble connecting to a wireless network - seems to fall out.
Im also looking to buy a cd writer/reader and need help on this as the new macs dont have a dvd drive and i need one - which is annoying as i didnt know this when i bought the new macs. - again can this be shared or will i have to physically unplug if needed on another mac ?
more importanty I need to setup the 3 macs so they can do the following:
1         all share the scanner (do i need the scanner software installing to each mac also ?)
2         all share the usb printer
3         all share the colour wireless/ethernet printer
4          i need the 3 machines to be able to share one folder visible on the desktop of each machine as a shared folder - in this folder will be large jpeg shots currenlty only on one machine but we all need to be able to add and take out of this shared folder so it updates for all.
5          obviously all use the internet in the best way - i assume hard wired is best if possible (we are all close enough to do this to the router)
Im currently messing about swapping printer leads to the back of each mac when need to use it
i only have the scanner on one machine at present so unsure if need to install the scanner software and printer softwares on each mac if sharing
Ive dabbled with the 'sharing' option in preferences, but need help with what to switch on, on each machine please.
    Many Thanks
    Mark

Just to advise on this first part of your question, if all 3 are on the same network (wired or wireless) you can use Remote Disk to use the DVD drive on the one iMac to work with all 3 computers. There is no need to purchase an additional drive.
This tells you about Remote Disk:

  • New iCloud setup with Mac and iPhone

I just setup iCloud for both my Mac and iPhone and still my gmail does not update between the two.  I used the setup for both as shown on the Apple site.  I thought this was supposed to be easy.  Any ideas as to what I might be missing?

I would have thought that the Apple products would deconflict the message traffic from the email accounts, via iCloud.
I'm afraid you thought wrong. Modern email accounts do not work like that. Email messages, and the status of those messages is stored on the email server. If you setup the same IMAP account on numerous devices, the email is stored on the server and each email client reads the status of the messages from the server. Keeping things "in sync" is a function of the email server, not the email client.
I was under the assumption they were innovative enough to think about using their own products to help users manage ALL email, through Mail and iCloud, on several devices.
Since Apple do not have control over Google's mail servers (or anyone else's, apart from their own), it is not technically possible for them to do what you are asking. Creating a whole new, Apple-only proprietary email protocol would not be innovative at all, when the IMAP email standard already exists and is used everywhere.
As already mentioned, if you want to keep a Google Mail account in sync across multiple devices and computers, you use the facilities that Google provides for doing so i.e. their IMAP (or Exchange) email servers.
If you want to keep an Apple iCloud (@me.com) email account in sync across multiple devices and computers, you use the facilities that Apple provides for doing so i.e the iCloud IMAP email server.
Same applies to Hotmail email accounts, or Yahoo! Email account. Email clients do not keep email in sync - the server does.

  • Thanks to all, but giving up on Mac and going back to windows. Had enough!!

Thanks to all who have tried to assist with my issues with Mac movie and burning.
In short, I have made a 105 minute movie which includes photos with transitions, video, some titles and backing track, music. When I "share" the movie to Quicktime, it plays just fine. When I create a DVD in IDVD and then burn to a blank DVD, it does not play correctly on DVD players.
Specifically, the sound track is erratic in volume, cuts out in parts, or the DVD crackles up and is jolty.
ALTHOUGH it does play just fine in the Mac DVD player (not much good to those smart people that don't have a Mac).
Based on a lot of feedback on this forum I have tried:
    - creating disk image (works fine) but has same issue during play back on standard DVD
    - using verbatim quality disks
    - using professional quality in project properties
    - Simplifying the menu option
    - Ensuring I avoid drop zones when putting movie into IDVD
    - Ensuring I have minimum 25GB of free hard disk space (actually have over 140GB)
    - and most recently, changing the BURN SPEED to 1X.
Changing the burn speed to 1X did actually mean that the DVD played back fine on one of our DVD players. ALthough subsequent copies have cracked up a bit towards the end of the DVD.
When we try it in different DVD players, we tend to get different issues!!!!
Given that we are wanting to distribute the DVD to other families, we do not know what they are going to get. ie. it plays back differently on each DVD player we try.
Never used to have same issues with windows, plus find IMovie very limited in what you can do.
Back to windows for the next DVD, write this one of as a bad experience and a waste of money buying the IMac. Will NOT be recommending Mac at all.

How new is your iMac? I wonder if you have a bad burner. What you describe in terms of different players playing discs differently is really odd. I have authored over 40 DVDs of family stuff, DVDs for the soccer team I coach, etc. all on the Mac and without any problems with any player I've tried, and family members have used them as well without problems.
If you just bought the iMac you might consider seeing if they will replace the superdrive, though it sounds like you have made the decision to go back to Windows. From everything I hear (and no, not just from Mac people), Windows software is very challenging to use and yields very limited results - but good luck to you if you go that route.

  • My computer running Windows 8.1 no longer recognizes my 7th Generation Ipod Nano.  I have removed and reinstalled the latest ITunes software and it still doesn't recognize my Ipod.

I previously installed my Ipod Nano 7th generation in Itunes, Windows 8.1.  When I have recently connected, Itunes does not recognize it.  I removed and reinstalled the latest Itunes software, but no success.  Message says that Itunes sees an Ipod is connected, but does not recognize it.  The USB connection is working fine, as I recharged the Ipod without problem.

    Hello Lynn,

  • Macs and out-of-the-mainstream software

I recently purchased an HP laptop due to the problems I have had running Windows software on my Mac Book Pro.
My experience is that Macs are fine for mainstream software, e.g. word processors, spreadsheets, desktop design, etc., but once one goes away from the maintream, one runs into trouble.
My first problem was trying to save my blood sugar download results on my computer. (I'm a longtime diabetic.) All software that does this is Windows-only. I tried using the software that supposedly allows running Windows software on Macs without success. :-\
My second problem was using software called Blackboard, which I use to teach online courses for the U of AL. Since the first attempt using Windows software, I decided the writing was on the wall, so that's when I sprang for a PC. (Trying to use Blackboard with Safari 2, the latest version Blackboard approves for Macs, was catastrophic failure.)
I've had other troubles as well, but I won't go into them here. Suffice it to say that Macs work well within a limited parameter of software, and going outside that parameter causes trouble. :-\
    Buzz Haughton

Well, I use Blackboard very heavily for the four Physics classes I teach. I access it on a MacBook Pro all the time. Works fine, actually cleaner than on the school's Windows 7 machines.
I also have diabetes and used to keep the data in an Excel (Mac version) spreadsheet. Much more versatile than a separate program. I also have a simple app on my iTouch.
But if you are locked into a large amount of small one-off Windows programs, you are probably better off with a Windows machine. Many love emulators (Parallels and CrossOver) and they work fine. I don't bother.

  • Syncing iPhone and Mac and the room needed on iPhone

    Evening Forum
is it me or when syncing my iPhone do i notice that the room needed to swap stuff over is used in a strange way?
for example [and its not exact i know so go with my sizes here], my 32GB iphone has say 30GB left after apps and other things, if i transfer 20GB of music and associated stuff, i have 10GB left. If now i sync a few weeks later with another 28GB of music, as my mac would tell me, despite my thinking that the iphone would know that off coems 20Gb and on goes 28GB, it cant handle that. its seems to need a certain amount of space actually on the i[hone outside of the music being taken off and the music being put on, to actually do the swap.
anyone else found this? whats the exact reason for it? whats it doing?
even if some of those tracks being swappped were the same, thus the tracks not needed to be taken off, surely the iphone should know this. It takes long enough to think about it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Macs use a different version than a iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, so you have to buy this app in the Mac App Store. After installing it, you can sync them if the app has got a sync service or iCloud compatibility. Note that the app for Macs should have iCloud support too

  • Trying to play a movie on my mac and says it needs an AC3 Codec

Hi can someone help me. I am trying to play a movie on my macbook pro off my portable  hard drive. It keeps telling me I need an AC3 codec for the audio. Can anyone tell me where to get this from a trusted source.
    Thanks

Try adding Perian.  It's useful for allowing QuickTime to handle a wide variety of formats audio/video formats.
There is also Vlc which is a general video player for a wide variety of formats.  But these days I am hesitant to recommend it since it was "updated" to 2.0 from 1.1.12.  1.1.12 was great and I still use it.  2.0 is not quite ready for prime time (unstable and buggy).

  • How do I setup Active Directory and Group Policy on Windows Server 2012?

I work for a school district that uses a Windows 2012 server with about 400 Windows 7 PCs and 150 Mac PCs. We are set up with Roaming Profiles on the PCs and would like to be able to setup Active Directory, Group Policy, and Roaming Profiles on our macs. (We also have a mac server that they are using as a file server only) As we are a school, our funds are very low. Now for the questions...
Is there a software that allow us to accomplish this?
Is there a free solution or a very reduced price option to do this?
I heard that http://www.centrify.com/products/mac-edition.asp may accomplish this and I read something about it on here but didn't know if this is what I was really trying to do becuase it was marked as "The Golden Triangle" and did not mention Raoming Profiles. This is the link though: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17200059#17200059
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The above reply does not take into account that I am trying to use GROUP POLICY EDITOR to make it the default browser.
