Nano Just displays "Do not disconnect@

When nano is connected to pc only displays "do not disconect" and does not show up in iTunes (but windows can see it. Have re-started, re-loaded etc. Any help, please?

If your iPod is recognised by the computer and iTunes, then the answer could be as simple as you have your iPod enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Nano constantly displaying "Do Not Disconnect"

Nano is not being recognized when plugged into computer. Charges fine, but Itunes will not recognize it, and it can no longer be put to sleep by holding the pause/play button. Will not play music either, as it is constantly on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, even when not plugged in. Tried connecting to computer and restarting, still nothing. Any suggestions?

why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

If it is a problem than I have it too. Mine does the
same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the
    clock.
I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
    as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

  • Nano keeps saying "do not disconnect"

I have up loaded songs and my itunes recognizes my nano just fine but everytime I plug it in it just keeps saying "do not disconnect" and it never goes away. Even after it syncs and the battery is completely charged. I don't know if maybe I'm doing something wrong or even hurting my ipod.
    Please help.

Have a look in "My Computer" and see if it is listing your iPod in there. Alternatively try using the "Safely Remove Hardware" function on Windows. That should disconnect the iPod and allow you to unplug it.
To find iPod options, in iTunes click on "EDIT" then "PREFERENCES" then "iPod" then "Music" You should have a list of options:-
Automatically update all songs and playlists
    Automatically update selected playlists only
    Manually manage songs and playlists
If the third option is checked then it will not disconnect automatically.
Lower down the page are more options
    Only update checked songs
Open iTunes when this iPod is connected
    Enable disk use
Display album artwork on your iPod
If "Enable disk use" is checked, then again it will not disconnect automatically.
To manually disconnect, right click on your iPod's name and then left click on eject.
If that lot doesn't work, then that is the limit of my expertise.

  • IPod nano stuck in "Do not disconnect"

My wife's new nano was working perfectly in all operations.
Now, when we plug it into the computers (more details to follow), 1) the computers don't recognize the iPd, and 2) the iPod says "Do not disconnect" (i.e., the iPod /does/ know it's plugged in to a computer.
    DETAILS:
    * we've tried this on both USB ports on each of two PowerBook G4s, each running OS X 10.4.3. The iPod software is up to date on both computers.
    * when I reset the iPod (following the instructions in the KB), it works fine when /not/ connected to the Macs
    * the iPod /does/ accept charge from the computers when connected
    * I have /not/ tried FireWire, nor have I tried replacing the USB cable. (Mostly because it seems to work OK - iPod recognizes it's connected, and accepts charge)
    Anyone?

I think this may be connected to the ongoing problem that the nano is not officially supported by OS X 10.2.8. I have that configuration, and while I seem to be able to download to the nano and play everything OK, it does get stuck in "Do not disconnect." I just get brave and eject the iPod while it's still showing that message, and everything seems fine.
I haven't seen the option for downloading photos, so maybe that does require 10.3.
I'm running a 4 1/2 year old iBook which does have USB 2.0, and the download speed seems fine.

  • IPod nano 6th generation: "Do not disconnect" on white screen w/flashing icon; previously "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting" on dark screen w/USB icon; no content on iPod

Trouble began with "Reconnect to iTunes to Restore" message after I inadvertantly held down the Wake/Sleep button long enough to turn the iPod off before pausing the podcast in progress.
My subseqent actions to try to remedy:
    -Restored the iPod
-while Restoring, the rotating circular arrows and "Synchronizing-Do Not Disconnect" screen appeared followed by "Connected-Eject Before Disconnecting"
-when I ejected the iPod and disconnected it, the normal icons showed but there was no content
-Reinstalled the latest iTunes 11.0.3 which I had downloaded previously a few days before my problems began
-Restored iPod again:  still said "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting"
-Manually put the iPod into Disk Mode (said to be helpful in troubleshooting):  "Do Not Disconnect" on white screen with flashing icon (circle with diagonal line)
    -Ejected and disconnected the iPod.
    -Reconnected the iPod:  same message

You need to either the let the iPod finishing syncing with iTunes, or figure out what application is still using it in the back ground that prevents you from being able to properly eject the device.  Just unplugging it from the computer is almost always going to cause issues when it's still in use by iTunes or another application.
So let's connect the device to iTunes one more time and let it finish restoring.  Then try syncing a bit of content over to it and wait for it to finish the sync process.  Then try to properly eject it from iTunes this time.

  • Help!  My iPod will not stop displaying "Do not Disconnect"

I have had my iPod since December 2004 and sync with iTunes on Windows XP. I have had no troubles until I installed iTrip (FM transmitter). Now I encounter the problem that whenever iTunes updates my iPod, my iPod continues to display the "Do not disconnect" warning after iTunes says it's ok to disconnect. I have tried ejecting the disk, but it says it is using other files. The only way I can disconnect the iPod is shutting down the computer. I have reset the iPod and it continues to have this problem

I have tried ejecting the iPod mini, and I have made sure that using the iPod as disk was unchecked. Oddly enough, during this phase, the iPod does show up as a disk. Since this post I have found a way to get around the problem. I was using iTunes for subscribing to podcasts. I have stopped and delected the subscribed podcasts, and this seems to be working.

  • Help Nano keeps saying do not disconnect then

In Itunes it says iPod update is complete. I searched on here and found a link to where it says to check the iPod preferences in itunes and I did that but I still have the same problem. Every time I try to manually eject it says
"can not be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application"
I don't have anything else open except for itunes. I added songs from My Music into the iPod. Could that be the problem? Could it be the wondows media player?
    AHHHH HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked under preferences and there is not a check by "Enable disk use" which is what I think you're talking about. I set almost everything to a manual update and it's still doing it. It will have the normal screen for about a second then it goes back to the do not disconnect.
I try to manually disconnect through the safely remove hardware and I get the message "The device apple iPod USB device cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later"
I have no clue what is going on...

  • Help Me, Ipod won't do anything and is just saying "do not disconnect"

      Windows XP

    Hello,
When you unplugged your iPod when it was done charging did you safetly remove the hardware from the computer before you unplugged the cord?
This is the SAFE way to unplug the iPod if you were previously unaware:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodFeaturesGuide.pdf
Also, I would try resetting your iPod, you can do so by:
Holding the center and the menu button in for 6-10 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
    Hope this helps,
    Ms D.

  • Ipod constantly displaying 'do not disconnect'

I just changed the options settings on my iPod nano, so that it is unlocked9i couldnt delete songs before) and now my ipod constantly displays the DND messga,e until I manually eject(ctrl+e)from itunes, whcih then allows me to charge my ipod.
Is there anyway I can revert to the old, DNC message for a few seconds, then everything is normal and operational?

Once you disconnect (manually), it should start charging normally, and if you hit a button, be in normal operation mode.

  • Can I switch off my computer while my nano is saying "Do not disconnect"?

Please help me. This morning I couldn't switch my nano off - only on the docking speakers so I looked at the online help, tried resetting and then decided to try the update and or restore. When I plugged the iPod in, iTunes asked me if I wanted to update the software so I said yes, updated it and then the computer said it needed to be switched off. I said I would switch off later (as my nano was plugged in and I didn't want to ruin it). Then I used the software to update the iPod - but afterwarsd it says do not diconnect all the time and iTunes says that the files are being used by another application. I have also tried restoring the iPod twice. Still the same. Now I am stuck with the iPod in the computer saying don't disconnect - WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE!
    nano   Windows XP

is it in disc mode? go to the bottom right of your start bar and find the little gray box looking thing with the green arrow pointing left, right click this and hit remove hardware, a dialog box will come up, click stop on usb storage device or whatever it says and it should say it is now safe to remove your hardware and your ipod screen should go to the main menu or the charging screen.

  • My iPod Classic says to Use iTunes to Restore but whenever I plug in my iPod into my computer, iTunes doesn't detect it and while it's plugged in and not connecting, it just says "Do not Disconnect" with a 'no' sign blinking. PLEASE HELP!!

I've already tried putting it into Disk Mode but nothing happens. Tried restarting computer and a new USB cord but still not working!
    PLEASE HELP!

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
