Nano keeps pausing itself.

My Nano started acting funky last night. It keeps pausing itself during playback. I did a restore and it worked fine for a couple of hours, now it's back to pausing itself. Any suggestions?

It's happening to me as well with podcasts. It also goes into a skipping mode as if I were holding the forward button down. Even toggling the hold button to it's red setting doesn't stop this behavior. I've reset it three times. The first time it helped for a while. Yesterday it didn't help at all. Today I tried toggling the hold button and resetting. I don't know if that is different than just resetting without first toggling hold button as I was doing yesterday. It's working properly at the moment. We'll see if it lasts this time. I've listened to the same tracks on my iPhone and they are working fine there, so it's not a problem with the podcasts.
For what it's worth, the "OK to disconnect" screen lingers a fair while before you can do anything with the iPod after unplugging - possibly a minute or more.

  • Help! my ipod keeps pausing itself.

everytime i play a song my ipod just randomly pauses. even when i have the hold button activated the thing still pauses itself. i won't even touch the dial, and it just pauses. what do i do????

It might not be a problem with the ipod, nanos come with the feature of pausing automatically when the earphones come out even a bit (i suppose so that you dont miss any of the songs but can be annoying if you have it on your belt and you stretch lol)..make sure your earphones are connected fully and you should be fine.

  • Nano 8GB Pauses Itself

Here lately my Nano 8GB will pause itself randomly during a song.
It seems to happen when either the earbuds or the stereo connector cable is plugged into the unit and is moved just a little.
With my 30GB Video, I know that when you plug in or take out of the headphone jack that the unit will pause because a change to the unit has taken place. But this Nano seems to be a lot more sensative as even if there is a slight turn of the cable plugged into it, it pauses.
    Any suggestions?

    Try Restoring the iPod.
Otherwise, it might need service. However, I am not sure how that will work. Apple may agree with you, or may say that the headphone jack senses movement, so it pauses.
    I hope this helps!

  • Why does my ipod touch keep pausing itself?

While listening to my first generation ipod touch, it will just pause itself. Whether using headphones, auxillary jack, or skull candy speakers which connect through the charging port on the ipod. REALLY ANNOYING!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why does my ipod nano keep pausing about 10's seconds into a song

when my ipod nano 8Gb is plugged into my computer works fine. but when i unplug it it plays for abt 10=20 seconds and then it pauses..very annoying. anyone know how to fix before i throw it against a wall?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • IPOD TOUCH KEEPS PAUSING ITSELF! PLEASE HELP

    HI EVERYONE<
I HAVE PROBABLY THE MOST ANNOYING PROBLEM THE IPOD TOUCH COULD HAVE...IT KEEPS PAUSING THE SONGS (AND EVEN VIDEOS) AFTER EVERY FEW MINUTES...EVEN IF ITS LOCKED. NOW I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING LIKE RESETTING IT, RESTORING IT AND ALL THAT AND EVEN DRAINING THE WHOLE BATTERY AND CHARGING IT AGAIN. IT WONT WORK.
I HAVE HAD MY IPOD TOUCH FOR A MONTHS NOW AND I HAVE HAD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH OF **** FROM IT. THING IS, FIRST IT COULD NOT TURN OFF BUT I SORTED THAT BY RESTORING IT AND RESETTING IT MULTIPLE TIMES I MUST SAY. BUT NOW, ANYTHING I PLAY EITHER A VIDEO OR A SONG PAUSES ON ITS OWN!!! I COULD SIMPLY PRESS PLAY AGAIN BUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS INTO THE SONG, IT PAUSES AGAIN. I CAN NEVER HAVE IT IN MY POCKET NOW BECAUSE I HAVE TO CLICK "PLAY" EVERY 15 SECONDS ARGGH. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME

I also want to submit my experience. Same exact thing happened to mine. It only happened after the recent update to ver 2.0.2 (5C1), and it's really ANNOYING!! You can't listen to an mp3 or any music this way when it pauses every few seconds! Of course, all the free apps I downloaded could be subject to scrutiny... Overall, the new apps as well as the default apps seem to still work with minimal issues.
The music sometimes jumps ahead to the next track, but mostly just pauses randomly within each track. Last night I temporarily cleared it up by holding the power off for 5 seconds, and it provides a red slide off [something I never saw before], waited a few minutes, then turned back on. (Found this step on another post.) I imagine this resets the system and may clear some garbage. After I did this [a few times] I successfully listened through a track or two, but was so peeved, and paranoid, I couldn't enjoy the music! I hope this doesn't happen next time. I thought it was a corrupted mp3 at first, but it happens to all tracks, and it seems to be an internal problem. If this continues, I may want to clear reset the whole device and possibly revert back to when it worked great, but then again, they may clear it up with another software revision.

  • My nano keeps pausing by itself even if it is on hold

i am playing music and all of a sudden the songs pause by themselves
my headphones are pluged in correctly and all the way and still the songs pause
ive tried 3 diffrent headphones including the ones that came with the ipod and it keeps happening
    i have reset my ipod
as well as restored it and the same thing keeps happening i even blew in to the jack to take out dust plz i need serious help

Actually, there is one other thing you could try. You could try re-encoding a few of your songs at a different bit rate (try Constant Bit Rate 192kbps). It's a long shot though as encoding problems usually make an iPod skip, not pause.

  • Nano keeps rebooting itself while updating

So, whenver the ipod first sets itself up, renames itself, etc., everything seems fine. I then start loading songs onto it and it seems to be going fine, until it randomly reboots itself. And when windows recognizes it again, the corrupt file ballon pops up. itunes now recognizes it as a generic IPOD, not the renamed one from setup. And it says there's anywhere from 200 to 600 mbs used up on the ipod, but there's nothing on the thing. So I restore it... and it goes through the same process all over again. So I uninstall both itunes and the updater, reinstall, restore... do the five rs thing untill the cows come home, same thing every time. Reformat the ipod with the hp utility? Sure, doesn't help. Nothing I've been able to find on this forum or apple's support site is of any help.
I already returned one nano for this same problem. The second one keeps doing the same thing. So you would think its my computer, right? That is, except for the fact that my wife's nano works just fine with no problems whatsoever. What the heck is going on with this thing? Could it be a bad batch of nanos? Should I bring this one back and try a third?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i had the same problem ... and came across it again.
try disabling windows write cache it worked for me during a while : http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1819756,00.asp

  • My new 7th gen nano keeps pausing in the middle of songs

This is the second time I've had this problem. I just returned the other (new) nano to Amazon, and now this one (replacement) has the same problem. Could it be a computer virus? Other family iPods (not gen 7) play just fine.

Is the iPod motionless (like on a table) when you use it for the fitness class?  Is anything able to touch its screen or side buttons?
If you are connecting the iPod to an external speaker, does this problem ever happen when you are using your iPod normally, using your headphones?
It seems like the iPod is somehow getting the command to pause, even when you are not doing it intentionally.  That command can come from the screen, from the side (center) button, or from the cord.  If it's happening randomly, you may want to have the iPod checked, under warranty if it's less than one-year from purchase date.  If there is an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar.
NOTE:  There is also a feature called Shake to Shuffle.  It doesn't sound like that is being activated, but you may want to turn OFF that feature to see if it makes any difference.  I have it turned OFF, because it is annoying when it happens at "random" times when I move my iPod in a certain way.

  • Why does my  Gen 7 ipod nano keep pausing?

I've owned a Gen 7 iPod nano for a month now as a go-to MP3 player for work (we can't use our phones to listen to music due to cell phone abuse that's happened). Everything seemed fine until about 2-3 weeks ago I found that my music kept spontaneously pausing. Ok so I figured that maybe I hit the button on the side so I used the remote on my earbuds to continue playing. Another slight move and the thing pauses again. I quickly discovered that the slightest movement of the earbud jack triggers this thing to pause the music.
I then thought it was the headphones and perhaps the remote causing it to glitch. So I went and bought a cheap basic pair of earbuds (Sennheisers) without the remote only to find that the pausing is still going on. I've cleaned out the jack numerous times and it is still doing it. Any idea why this is happening? Seems like this is a known issue as I've seen that others ran into this. Why would Apple continue to let faulty product to be sold? For $140, I would have expected this to last longer, now thinking I should have stuck with a cheapo MP3 player from Walmart as it would have probably lasted longer
Are there any fixes to this or should I retire this practically new 'pod (and get my hard-earned cash back) and move onto something better? I'm now kind of weary of buying Apple devices if this is the kind of performance I'm going to get from it.

    Hello AngryGumball,
Try out the 5 R’s in the article below to continue your troubleshooting to get your iPod nano working again. If it does not, then check out the second part of the quoted section below to have your iPod nano looked at and possibly serviced.

I have same problem. Song is playing and then cuts out. If I play the same song again then it either stops in a different place or plays OK. This is happenning with most of my tracks. I am using itunes to create the music files etc.

  • Nano keeps pausing song

Hello. I'm wondering if I can get some help. My new Nano works great except that it occasionally will pause the song during playback. At first, I thought it was a sensitive wheel but it even does it when the Hold is on. Just wondering if there is something I can do? Thanks.

Yes, it will erase all data on the iPod including the OS, but when you connect it with a computer, it will be treated as an USB mass storage or a hard drive. Once you do the Restore (you will be asked to do so, when you connect your iPod with a computer), it will add the OS back with the iPod
By formatting the HD of iPod, hope it can solve the bad sectors on it, which cause the pausing
