Nano malfunctioned won't connect to usb

Hi
I just bought a new laptop - Lenovo G50-70 running Windows 8.
My iPod Nano refuses to connect to my laptop. Whenever I plug it in to any of the USB ports, I get an error message saying the device malfunctioned. It only shows up as "Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)".
I have tried every step in iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support and nothing works.
What do I do? My iPod was working fine in my old laptop last week.
Thanks.

Ahh, no.  That is the first thing I looked at, the second was to confirm my device is compatable and according to this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/winrt/CompatCenter/Home it is.
So now what?  The nano BT will not connect to the device even though it is paired.  I'm trying to use this with a new Microsoft Surface Pro. Win8

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • 5th gen ipod won't connect to usb 3, is there a fix?

I have an ipod video (5th gen), and it won't connect to my new asus laptop since it only has usb 3 ports (I don't care if it will charge or not, I have a dock), my question is whether it could potentially connect to my computer so I could sync it if I use a usb 2 hub or something similar. My ipod recently formatted itself when it forced a reset, so I have to get my music all back. Anyone know a fix to it? Thanks for any help you guys can give me, really driving me crazy not having music to listen to when I'm out...

You did install the latest version of iTunes on your new computer, correct?  Installing iTunes is how the software needed for iPods to be recognized as iPod gets installed.  Otherwise, Windows sees it as a generic device.

If the iPod is recognized by Windows, but not iTunes, you should go through this trouble-shooting document.

FYI - My 3rd gen iPod from 2003 works fine with the latest iTunes; there's no such thing as an iPod that is too old.

  • TX won't connect via USB - Windows "disconnected hardware" sound effect repeats continually

I've had my TX for over two years now, and this month I've encountered an unusual problem.  When I try to connect the Palm to a USB port (any port), the Windows sound effect that indicates a USB device has been detected stutters quickly on one tone (three quick notes), then after a few seconds of silence, it plays the normal disconnected sound effect immediately followed by the three-note monotone stutter.  This continues in and endless loop with neither my PC nor the Palm showing any other signs of it being connected.
Has anyone seen this problem before, and does anyone have any advice?  I've tried soft resets and re-installing the Palm software on the PC, but to no avail.  I cannot even use the Palm as a SD card reader because the Palm won't connect at all.

  • Mail Client Crashing, Mac Messenger won't connect, 1 USB port won't work!!!

Any ideas on why my macbook pro has the above probs.....Wen I open mail and click on a message, Mal just crashes and gives me a message to relaunch. MSN won't connect no matter how many times i reinstall it and my son decided to unplug his Ipod from the usb port and now anything i plug into the port isn't recognised.......Pleeeeeeaaassseeeee Help!!!!! TY

Both cables (Cat5e and Cat6) that I used was tested with my WD live hub and worked at 1 Gbps. The Cat5e is not shielded and I'm fairly confident the Cat 6 cable is unshielded as well. I should mention at this point that I've made my own network patch leads for over 10 years now and my networking career started out using coax cables. I would say that I know what I'm doing and can concluded with 100% certainty that it is not the cables.
After installing Windows 7 through Bootcamp there is not even an option in the network adapter setting to set the speed any faster than 100 Mbps.
After going to my local Apple store (30 Km away in London!) the genius I spoke with suggested I book a slot and bring it in for them to test to determine if a new logic board should be ordered. I must be honest, I thought however I spoke with would treat me like an idiot and try and blame anything but the mac but she listened and agreed with my assessment and suggested I bring it it for a test.

  • Nano bluetooth won't connect to or find devices

    Hi,
I have a new ipod nano that I can't connect to anything.  When searching for BT devices it doesn't ever find anything.  I used my tablet to pair the device so I could at least see the tablet in the BT list, but I'm not able to connect to it. I always get the 'Connection Failed, Make sure XXXXX is turned on and in range".
Doesn't matter what I do, I can't get anything to link to it.
What am I missing, besides the apple claim "it just works".
    Cheers!

  • IBook won't connect to USB External Hard Drives

I'm having a very strange issue with my ibook.
I have three external hard drives (two of the three can use usb and firewire). If I connect them with firewire they work fine. Same thing goes for usb flash drives and usb devices (mouse, keyboards, ect.), but if I connect a usb external hard drive it refuses to read it. It gets power but it will not appear on my mac .....
Now, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but a few years ago I was dj'ing with one of the hard drives that uses usb and firewire (it was connect using usb at the time). Something happened and the hard drive just stopped working. I thought it crashed at first. Its a western digital and every dj I know who has had a western digital has had it crash on them. I took it home and hooked it up to my pc just to make sure it was dead and it ran fine. Matter of fact I can still use it on my mac, firewire only though. Now no matter what type of external hard drive it is, if I am using usb it refuses to load on my mac.
Any ideas on why this would happen?
Also, the other two hard drives are both verbatim

The best idea I have is that the USB bus in your computer isn't supplying enough power to your devices. You could try picking up a powered USB hub and using that to see if that helps.

  • MSI MEGA 533 with FM Radio won't connect on USB! Brand new from a box !!!

    hello,
i'm having trouble connecting MSI MEGA 533 with FM Radio, on usb port on my computer.
I've tried to connect it on USB 2.0 port on laptop and desktop computer, with MS Windows XP SP2 installed, nothing happens. When I start player it works like a charm, i can listen to radio stations, record radio station, and record voice, but when i try to connect it to USB via cable from a box nothing happens.
I've tried to downgrade it to firmware version from cd, with a standard procedure, hold play button, start download software, connect via usb cable, and the player is not detected by computer.
PLEASE if there is a way you can help post your reply as soon as possible.
    Thanks

    Hi gagac
Try uninstalling the current driver on your computer and download the following driver.
    http://rapidshare.de/files/20262928/MS5533.zip.html
This driver is a backup copy that I uploaded on rapidshare from my Original CD Rom that came with my player & I know that it works with firmware v1.00.06.
What I find is unusual is that you got firmware v1.00.06 on your player straight out of the box as it usually comes with v1.00.01 or v1.00.02.
If the above driver doesn't work, and since that you have Windows XP, you may want to try upgrading to firmware v2.00.02. NOTE: You will need to also download driver v1.672 from the MSI Website as this is the only driver that works with v2.00.02.
CARE: You may want to read the below topic first before upgrading to v2.00.02 as there have been some issues concerning driver v1.672 & v2.00.02.

  • IPod Nano 4GB won't connect!! help please!

    ok so here's my problem::
i lost my original USB 2.0 charger cord and i got a new one yesterday. same thing..
only thing is, my iPod won't charge now. first, i plugged it into the laptop, and it said i needed to download iTunes. i did that & still didn't work. then, i tried charging it on the original computer i used to install my iPod when i got it. it still wont work. i tried the directions in the book the iPod Nano came with, and that didn't work..
    !!HELP!!

The fifth generation iPods do not support synchronization through FireWire because they don't have the hardware component to include this. The component was dropped in part because syncing your entire iTunes library normally only needs to be done once unless the iPod is restored, and it will take longer for the iPod to fully charge than it will take to complete the synchronization through USB, and partially to make the iPod slightly smaller and save money. The time difference needed for subsequent synchronizations isn't nearly as noticeable.

  • My BB 8520 won't connect via USB after the firmware upgrade

    Hi,
All was working fine until I followed the upgrade prompts. The 'phone works but a) it won't accept Opera Mini 5.1 (which was in the 'phone already) and b) I cannot connect to the PC via the USB cord.
    What happened?
This 'phone shares the same SIM card with 3 Nokias (E72, E90, E62) and I've never had firmware upgrade problems with them - in Symbian OS.,
    Any ideas?

EDIT: Link Removed. Please review User Guidelines  under section "No spam please."

    Hi, again -
Just downloaded Bolt and I like it also. (No more zooming: whoopee!)
Never heard of this browser before, having used Opera Mini/Mobile (depending upon the 'phone) since 2004. Was on E-Mails for cell 'phones dating back to 1997, coast to coast: primitive service back then! [Rarely did I use the default browser on any 'phone I've had, including Motorola and Palm before Nokia.]
Bolt loaded faster than Opera Mini 5.1 did on my Nokias and the Blackberry 8520: amazing!
Now my "not as good as a Nokia with Symbian" handset is useful again. The firmware upgrade did improve the videos and the links to them, so it was a GAIN SOME FEATURES and LOSE SOME FEATURES firmware upgrade.
Probably Opera will have a link for the Blackberry 5 platform, eventually. The problem, I think, was that the link only worked with three versions of their 4 edition.
    You have made my day!
    Thanks.
    Regards, Douglas
PS: Not until the Nokia E90 Communicator was off the market for a year or so, did Opera put out a Mobile browser which functioned on it. The Communicator - in a variety of versions - had a 12 year run in Finland, something of a record for handsets in this field. For Word .docs, fast typing and office style activities, it's hard to beat. (You can't wear one in your pocket if the garment is Spandex, of course.) The music on the E90 is loud and good; with the wireless aux. speakers it rivals a portable stereo, so I use it for that purpose much of the time, even when off-line.

  • E65 won't connect via USB Cable

    Hello to you all...
I just got my new Nokia E65 and I couldn't be happier with it. Fantastic phone.
However I can't connect it to my PC (Windows XP SP2) via the USB Cable...it just won't recognize it. I installed PC Suite with the latest cable drivers and nothing happens. When I connect the cable to the phone it asks if I want to use "data transfer" or "pc Suite" mode, but neither of them work.
I'm able to connect to PC Suite via infrared, and that works fine. But I want to update my firmware and software updater only works via usb cable.
Any ideas on what to to?

more info needed, suite version, cable type, what is visible in pc device manager when you connect phone, what is visible in phone screen when you connct cable, etc.

  • IPods won't connect with USB hub

I have a 7-port powered Trust USB 2.0 hub, in which my keyboard, EyeTV, printer, and two HDDs work perfectly. However my iPods are, at best, finicky with it. I have an 80GB 6th gen classic, which some of the time will connect happily and other times won't be recognised. Even more strangely, my shuffle (latest gen 1GB) will barely ever be recognised. When it is, iTunes may or may not be willing to try and sync it, but then the whole app will just hang until I physically remove the shuffle, at which point it instantly starts working again. What's more, these issues can be replicated even if each is the only device plugged in to the hub, and both are absolutely fine if plugged in to their very own port. I have tried restoring the shuffle many many times.
It's mightily frustrating, and I'd appreciate some guidance on how to rid myself of the issue!

Well my Shuffle got nicked, so never mind...

  • Trouble: e61i won't connect via usb anyway

First, after buy I made a hard reset erasing all data (*#7370#).
Some time passed, I installed some programs, syncronized contacts with outlook. After several restarts (turn off, then turn on, eg at night or when I did not need the phone to be on) and some other undefined conditions the phone does not offer to choose to connect as pc suite or usb mass storage when the usb cable is attached. And the pc does not make any reaction on the connected phone - like nothing is happening.
This is a very serious problem for me since I loose opportunities, time and as a result - money.

  • IPod Touch 3G won't connect to USB cable

When the power is on, and the cable is plugged in, nothing happens. I connected to a computer to try to restore it and my computer didn't find the ipod. The wall charger usb thing didn't work either. I've tried two different cables and neither of them worked. I found out that if I shut the power off while its still plugged in, it will receive a charge, although nothing is on the screen to indicate that, I found that it was fully charged when I powered back up a couple of hours later. There isn't an Apple store in my state and the closest one is 9 and a half hours away. I bought the ipod at a pawn shop so I don't have a warranty anyway.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Additional note: The day this happened, the music app sort of froze. Right after I selected a song and the song title, artist name, and album title area wasn't completely on screen. I couldn't tap the back button or the album button in the top right corner. The weird thing was that the play/pause and skip buttons still worked. I had to fully power off and restart to fix that.
Another additional note: The connecting of the cable is the only problem.
