Nano + mini

I already have an iPod Mini but someone gave me a Nano. Is it possible to sync both iPods to my itunes on one computer?
also, my Mini is 4GB and the Nano is 2GB. Is it possible to put in different songs into the Nano without having to 'uncheck' half of the songs I usually upload to my iPod? e.g. through some sort of playlist

hiya!
I already have an iPod Mini but someone gave me a Nano. Is it possible to sync both iPods to my itunes on one computer?
these resources should be helpful with that:

Is it possible to put in different songs into the Nano without having to 'uncheck' half of the songs I usually upload to my iPod? e.g. through some sort of playlist
sure. create a playlist ("nano syncing"?) containing the songs you want to sync to the nano. then while the nano is connected and showing up in the sourcelist in itunes, go to your "ipod" itunes preferences tab. select "automatically update selected playlists only", and select the "nano syncing" playlist in the window below that option. the nano will then automatically sync, but only the songs on the playlist you have selected.

For insurance purposes, can anybody tell me what they think a fair replacement would be for the old 2nd generation 8GB nano mini ipod would be?

    Alex,
I would suggest looking around on eBay to see what others are selling 2G 8 GB iPod Minis for.  Anything within the range of what you find there should work.

If resetting it does not work, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Nano, Mini works, but Classic crashes Itunes?

Itunes 11 works with my old nano and an old mini.  That really suprised me.  It didn't erase anything and updates my Itunes library from both Ipods and downloaded the new content I had purchased. Wow!  Never expected that.  The Ipad no longer appears under a device heading, but in the Ipod main menu is all the transfer control options super!!  Works on checked items as well as a complete  transfer in both directions.  Super!!
However it crashes when I try to access my Ipad Classic.  That was rather expensive and has my main music library.  After relocating the new 2013 version 11 ITL library to a backup folder,  I moved the 2010 ITL library into the main Itunes Library. I then re-installed the previous version. The installation worked.  Unfortuantly, no Icloud.  And when I tried to access my Classic Ipod, Itunes did not crash!!  However, it would not let me continue until I installed the new version.  After installing 11 again,  Itunes crashed again when I accessed the Ipod Classic.

Please spare me the usual arguments of problems with Windows user accounts ect. ect.  This is obviously an Apple problem.  And I think they need to fix it.  Don't you?

  • Nano/MIni Problem

My Daughter has had a Mini for a while using Itunes 6 and my Wife brought a Nano which I installed and now have 7 installed.
The Itunes see both players but only one library of songs
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to create two song librarys and have each player recognise its own library?

  • 2 2ndG Nanos, 1 PC?

    Hi all,
The wife and I have 2 2nd Gen Nanos. mine is 8GB, hers is 4GB.
Can I use the same instal of itunes and one liabray of songs to sync them both form the same PC? Will the PC be ok using 2 Ipods on I version of Itunes?
Also, as ers is smaller, how do I sync just the songs she wants? Craete a play list "Wife's music" and get her nanon just to sunc that. then she can add and delete tunes from her playlist, depending on what she wants out of the total library???
    Cheers in adavnce...

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • My IPOD nano Exploded

Is there something wrong with the battery they put on the first gen ipod nano. mine just got blown to pieces.
I was just charging it on my Laptop then it suddenly sparks and it caught fire. even the clicking wheel got melted.
and the back of the ipod split open.
am i the first to experience this flaw! *im so disappointed with that*.
    What should i do?
*if you wanna see the pic go to* - http://www.flickr.com/photos/23960698@N02/

First, I'm sorry to hear of your exploding ipod. That's terrible! I'm just glad to hear that you weren't holding it at the time!
Second, regardless of your warranty status, call apple or take the ipod to an apple store if possible. I have heard of the Lithium Ion batteries exploding (not in iPods, but cameras and computers), which is what the iPod uses. I have heard of Apple helping people out with things like this even out of warranty. It doesn't hurt to ask. Explain to the person on the phone (if you call) exactly what you've posted and offer the pictures.
Good luck and please post back whatever happens

  • Mini & hard drive thruput

Is it noticeable that the Mini has a notebook hard disk (4800 vs 7200 RPM?) in everyday use with 1 Gig of RAM ?
x86 Linux box - G3 iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPod nano - Mini in the future

As has been discussed here in other threads, it's certainly wise to consider 2Gb since the system will go that far, but one does have to temper the fact that MacOS improves in efficiency with greater RAM available to it, by the fact that above a particular point, adding more RAM brings decreasingly noticeable results.
That breakpoint is something that tends to change a little with each model, and of course over time with each version of MacOS. With Jaguar for instance, 512Mb RAM would have been plenty, and much above that would not have rendered significant benefits (assuming common usage of course). With Panther and Tiger, it's tended drift upwards towards the 1Gb level (again, for common applications and demand). With Tiger on an Intel system there's no doubt that 2Gb would give better performance than 1, but in my view not sufficient to justify the cost.
Where that doesn't hold true is if the system is going to be running any PPC software, because MacOS, running Rosetta on top and then the PPC app on top of that becomes very RAM hungry indeed, and under-resourcing the system then becomes critical, with even a moderate level of paging capable of slowing the performance of the whole to the point where an early G4 would have done better!
Thus, if you're not going to be running any PPC software at all, 1Gb will be fine for pretty much anything you want in the pattern of normal user demand. If PPC software is needed (and the Intel-native alternatives are unacceptable) then 2Gb would be strongly urged.

  • Syncing iPod Nano with Outlook 2003

Hi folks! I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have 2 8 gig 3rd generation nanos (mine and the wifes) which are way cool. I use to have a HP iPaq handheld which I used to play music and carry my scedule and contacts on. However ther is very little support for this old device and I went to the iPod thinking it wouls eassily sync to Outlook 2003 on my HP Vista machine. I worked at first although it woulds only sync select few appointments on my calendar but my contacts were initialy OK. I got it to function OK on both iPods as my wife and I need to know each other's scedules and we use the same contact list.
But recently I have been having issues with the sync as it routinely gives the error message: "iTunes failed to sync with Outlook calendars (or contacts) please log out of windows and log back in" When I log back on my calendar and contacts lus is gone on one of the iPods and will not sync back short on resetting the unit. So far the list will remain on my wifes unit but I am SOL. Anny advice would be appreciated

This isn't going to help but I want to add that my 3G Nano has similar issues. I use Outlook 2007 and it syncs just fine, no errors. Problem is that none of my contacts nor calendar items are sync'd. I have selected Outlook in iTunes CONTACTS tab as the source to sync from too.

  • Congratulations Apple Customer Service!

So, like a good little Steve Jobs acolyte, I sat around patiently waiting for the latest iPod Updater, vainly hoping that Apple would take the opportunity to fix a HIGHLY annoying bug that is exclusive to the iPod 5G software.
Alas, I should have known better. While renowned for its ability to make beautiful, easy to use, dare i say life changing computers and computer peripherals, Apple is also infamous for its SUCKY customer service.
I'm not talking about a wish list for touch screens, iPod phones, etc. I mean a bona fide problem with the software.
In a nutshell, this weird glitch is as follows: if you have an artist with two songs, only one of which has album info in the tags, then when trying to browse your music by "Artist", ONLY THE SONG WITH ALBUM INFO SHOWS UP. The other song is there - you can get to it by browsing by "Songs". Not a big deal if you have only a 100 songs, but when you have thousands, with many that are single tracks with no album info, this presents a problem. A HUGELY annoying problem. I know from testing that the nano, mini and prior versions of the iPod do not have this problem. Only the 5G. Oh, careful internet searching reveals that others have this problem too, so it's not just my unit.
Emails (note plural) to Apple customer service have gone unanswered. And whoever coined the term "Genius Bar" has a truly demented sense of humor.
Again, congratulations to Apple for living up to their standards of mediocrity for customer care. You should be proud!!

While I appreciate the spirit of this post, especially as my original post was admittedly snarky, I must point out...
High customer satisfaction DOES NOT EQUAL good/great customer service.
Customers should be satisfied with the iPod right out of the box - it's a great product. And Apple surely deserves the brand recognition - it has created something with deep cultural resonance. These are the items pointed out in your news release.
But who are we kidding? How many customers had iPods that were expensive paperweights once their batteries died. Apple initially refused to replace these batteries, much to the chagrin of those users (I applaud Apple's decision to reverse course on this). There are other instances of poor customer SERVICE that I won't bother to point out.

  • I Tunes 6.0 two seconds break when hearing songs

  • Files that "remember playback position" are not updating during sync

I listen to long spoken word MP3 files that are not podcasts. I have the "remember playback position" option checked on these files. I will add it to my library, sync it to my 2nd gen iPod shuffle, then go play it. The shuffle will remember the playback position fine. When I plug it into the computer again, iTunes used to update the files on my computer with the new playback position from the shuffle. This is not the case anymore. The local files will stay at the spot where they were at the original sync (0:00 in most cases). The files on the shuffle will then go back to 0:00 as well. This is very annoying. Any ideas?
P.S. I'm using the newest Shuffle that was released along with the 4th gen Nano (mine is the 2GB blue).
I know this is supposed to work because I had a silver 1GB shuffle in 2007 that worked fine.

ROFL I've named this thread "Shuffle Woes" in my favorites list. I seem to have fixed this strange and VERY elusive problem for now.
I discovered a duplicate music file that had the same metadata as another music file. The only difference between the two files was the name of the physical file on the hard disk AKA the file name. The metadata (tags) were exactly the same. Now that I've deleted one of the two files everything seems to magically work again. Don't ask me!
If the problem resurfaces again I'll be back. No more shuffle woes!
