Nano no longer syncs Contacts

I have a Nano 5G and I usually prefer it over my iPhone when working out mostly due to the small size and weight. However it no longer seems to sync contacts with my Mac running ML. How can this be fixed? Do newer iPod Nano's sync or is apple trying to weed everyone out to the iPhone/IPod Touch? If so does apple know how large and how much they weigh when compared to a iPod Nano? Has Apple done heavy running and tried lugging that brick around when the smaller Nano could be lugged arund without notice?

Hi John!
I have a couple of troubleshooting steps for you to try in order to resolve this issue with your contact syncing on your iPod nano. The first step would be to just try resetting the iPod. An article explaining how to do that can be found here:
How to reset iPod
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
And the exact directions for your iPod are found here:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, then you may want to try restoring your iPod to factory settings. More information on this can be found right here:
Restoring iPod to factory settings
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
You may even need to reset the SyncServices folder on your computer if you still have issues with your contact syncing. This article can help you accomplish that task, if necessary:

Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?

  • After updating to iOS 5.0.1 my 3GS no longer syncs contacts.

After updating to iOS 5.0.1 my 3GS no longer syncs contacts. I tried it in both directions to no avail. I created a contact on iPhone and then synced with negative results. Then I created a contact on my Mac and synced with negative results. What is up? I've never had any problems with any Apple updates before this!

  • HT203300 Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars after upgrading to Yosemite

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars through iTunes after upgrading to Yosemite. It worked fine until I made the mistake of upgrading. Help!?

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

Thanks for the reply Arthur. Actually, I just got off the phone with an apple rep telling me you can't downgrade, and that yes, apple actually IS forcing you to use iCloud - if, that is, you actually want to be able to sync your contacts or calendar. Apparently you are special and know something different, so please enlighten the rest of us.

  • Sync Services eliminated from Mavericks - can no longer sync contacts

I clearly made a big error updating to Mavericks. I only discovered after the installation that Mavericks no longer supports Sync Services, which was critical to my ability to sync my personal contacts and calendars to all of my devices. In the absence of restoring my computer back to Mountain Lion, I am wondering whether there is anything I can do, but I fear the incompatibilities are too great to surmount.
My work email, contacts, and calendar are on a 2003 Microsoft Exchange server, and I have no power to change that. That apparently means that the only Mac email client I can use to sync my work contacts and calendar is Microsoft Entourage 2008. (The email is less of a problem, as I believe I could access it through IMAP.) I had also been using Entourage for many years for my personal email, contacts, and calendar, so it has been nice having everything centralized in one program. To sync my personal contacts and calendar, I was using Sync Services to sync everything first with Apple's Address Book and iCal/Calendar, and then those were synced with my online Google account to serve the rest of my devices.
I had everything set up, as described above, to conveniently sync everything in all directions. Then came Mavericks and the unexpected loss of Sync Services. Now, Entourage 2008 is completely isolated from the outside world with regard to contacts and calendar events, and I believe the same would be true of the newer Outlook 2011. (I never even bothered to upgrade to Outlook 2011, because it apparently is not compatible with 2003 Exchange Server, so it would not have functioned with my work contacts and calendar.) Apple Mail is also apparently not compatible with 2003 Exchange Server. I tried DAVMail to serve as an intermediary to no avail.
Then, I thought, well, perhaps I could continue to use Entourage 2008 for work email, contacts, and calendar, and switch to Apple Mail, Address Book, and Calendar for my personal email, contacts, and calendar. That is not particularly convenient, but perhaps it would not be too bad. However, I cannot figure out how to transfer my hundreds of calendar events from Entourage 2008 to Apple Calendar. There is an "Import from Entourage" function in the Calendar program, but nothing ever gets imported. It will launch Entourage, if Entourage is not already running, and it will crash Entourage sometimes, but nothing ever gets imported.
I can also export my calendar events from Entourage in RGE format (some sort of archive format), and I could probably also get them into Outlook 2011 and then export them in OLM format. However, Calendar cannot handle either of those either. I am also not particularly impressed with the functionality of Calendar relative to Entourage/Outlook's calendar system.
So, now I am wondering whether my best option is to restore my computer to Mountain Lion and hope that my work will eventually change to a 2007 or newer version of Exchange Server. It seems that there are a lot more syncing options on the Windows side of things, as well, so I am thinking my next computer is going to be Windows, and I am due for a new one soon.

I restored to 10.8.5 using Time Machine. However, Time Machine immediately seemed to get confused and tried backing up my entire entire hard drive, even though I had just restored it and nothing had changed. This process went on for like six hours, and I was afraid to interrupt it. In the end, it failed, because the backup drive was too full. But it kept trying unsuccessfully to backup the whole thing, and I could not figure out a way to make it stop! Eventually, I had to reformat the backup drive and start over with a new backup, which took another eight hours.
I am going to buy a new computer in the next few months, because my current Mac is over five years old, but I will likely switch to Windows after 20 years of using a Mac at home. It saddens me a bit, and I know that my sync problem with Entourage/Outlook is probably mostly the fault of Microsoft. However, I must have compatibility with my system at work, and the simple fact is that is not possible on the Mac without jumping through hoops.
In addition, Apple presented Mavericks as a free upgrade in the App Store and promoted all of its alleged new features, but they did not list the things that had been removed (including the Sync Services functionality on which I depended). Given the widespread usage of Office for Mac, I would think it might have been good for them to reveal that broken functionality more prominently. Then, of course, there was the fiasco of trying to restore things back with Time Machine.
    Sigh....

  • IPod nano no longer syncs with iTunes

Lately when I attempt to sync my 2nd generation nano to iTunes, the iPod will not show as being recognized and the software becomes unresponsive. I do get the "do not disconnect" message on the iPod, but I must disconnect because there is no other option. The moment I disconnect, iTunes says it cannot sync because a folder was not found. Can someone offer some assistance?

  • How can I sync contacts in my address book to my iPod Touch 2nd Generation with iTunes 10.5.2?

My iPod Touch with OS 4.2.1 will no longer sync contacts from my address book on my computer now that I've upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2 and to Lion.  I have ensured that the iPod Touch is set to synchronize all my contacts.   The calendar continues to sync.

I have the same situation. I believe I disconnected iCloud by going into preferences and also unclicking the box for Contacts. What am I missing?

  • 5th gen iPod Classic will not sync contacts or calendars with itunes 9

I get the following window message when selection contacts to sycn - "iTunes will no longer sync contacts to ipod "MiPod Classic 80". Would you like iTunes to remove contacts previously copied to you ipod?"
Then is has two button choices (Don't remove contact) and (Remove Contacts).
When trying to select calendars I get a window state something like... You can no calendars to sync. Would you like to open iCal to create some. Then it give me a button to do so.
    I do have calendars.
    Anyone else have this problem?

I have the same problem. When I tell iTunes to sync Contacts, no contacts show up. It asks if I want to add contacts to my Address Book, but when I click okay, all of my 400+ contacts appear as normal in the Address Book. I just can't get iTunes to recognize that I have contacts in my address book.
I think calendars are also missing, but I'm no longer syncing calendars, so I haven't really messed with that.
I actually think the problem started when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, but I don't usually mess with my contacts sync settings, so it could've been a problem prior to that. I just upgraded to iTunes 9 last night, and that did not fix the problem.

  • Solution for Outlook for mac no longer syncing to iCloud?

I have a new iPhone 5s and am running Mavericks on my MacBook. I use Outlook for mac for my mail and contacts.
The new version of iTunes (since around mid October 2013) no longer syncs contacts and calendars from Outlook - and from searching forums online it seems that Outlook no longer syncs with iCloud.
When I log into www.iCloud.com this seems to be true as my iPhone calendar is consistent with the calendar I see on iCloud.com, so icloud seems fine.
The problem is that calendar appointments and contacts from Outlook on my mac do not sync through to iCloud - and I cannot work out how to acheive this - very frustrating.
Can anyone help or offer a suggestion?
    Thank you!

Thanks Csound - I don't know the technical details - but until October all contacts and calendars were syncing from Outlook for mac through onto my iPhone and iPads - each time that I synced connected with iTunes.
The newer version of iTunes now no longer syncs these - so I'm stuck using Outlook on mac and an iPhone - but neither will talk to each other - the contacts and calendars don't swap.
Surely I'm not the only person with this problem - has anyone else found a workaround?
If you're using Outlook for mac how are you syncing info to icloud and back?
Whether through google or sending using iCloud mail, or whatever it might be.
    Thank you

  • HT1351 My fifth generation nano will no longer sync my address book from my Mac. It gives me an error message that "You have no contacts" and asks me if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts. Sync works for everything else.

My 5th generation nano will no longer Sync my address book from my Mac.  It gives me a message that I have no "Contacts", and asks if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts, but for some reason it thinks it is empty.  All the other sync operations work fine including iCal.  My Mac is running OS X 10.7.4.

It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder.  You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

  • Address Book no longer syncs to iPod nano

I don't know whether this is an iTunes 10.5.2 problem or a Lion problem, but I recently found that iTunes is no longer syncing my address book to my 5G iPod nano. All I get is a zero-byte file with the current file creation time in the nano's Contacts folder. (I AM able to manually export a vcard file from my Address Book.app to the nano, and that is my current workaround.)
