Nano not recognized by Windows 2000

When i plug in my nano it needs driver files for the device... as far as i know these files are not on the included CD and all of the apple support on the website was unable to fix my problem. Can someone please explain how to get my computer to recognize my nano. Also i have windows 2000 and all of the XP solutions i have seen have not worked for me.

Hey,
I google.ca'ed your error message and brought up this discussion board:
http://www.billpalmer.net/ipodgarage/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=60612&sid=1da54d3c45 6559b34b29f7d1e4512986
They seem to have found a fix on that site, I would suggest following their solutions.
Also do you know what service pack your running on your computer? Is is SP4?
Thanks,
Ms D.

My Nano generation 7 is not recognized by Windows 8.1 PC.  Troubleshooting guide does not list Windows 8 as a supported OS.  ***?

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other components (including the Apple Mobile Device Services) is actually step 12 in the article that is linked above. The article below also has more detailed instructions. If the issue persists, it wont hurt to go through the steps again in the article above thoroughly and in the order provided.

  • Nano not recognized by windows

I have a black iPod Nano that will not be recognised by Windows. Every time I plug my iPod in, something pops up on my desktop saying 'USB Device Not Recognized'. I've tried absolutely everything.
Somebody else in my family also has an iPod Nano that works just fine, and has never malfunctioned.
Why is this such a common problem, and why can't anybody fix it?
Does Apple know what the problem really is or even how to fix it?
Are there any possible solutions or even suggestions?
    Windows XP

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Ah, what problems do you have, smhoug? The problem I described is common enough, I think, because the iPod nano does not come with the USB iPod AC charger, so when the iPod nano is completely discharged it will not be recognized when connected to a computer since it has no power. The solution for me is to recharge the nano using an iPod AC charger (both USB and the old Firewire charger which comes with older iPods will do).
For me, I have used 5 iPods (2G, 3G, 2 minis, nano) and I have no problems with any of them.

  • 7th gen nano not recognized by windows 8.1 as a drive OR itunes

When i plug in (USB) my 7th gen nano, my PC (Windows 8.1) doesn't recognize it as a drive (it pops up as a drive for about 2 seconds then goes away) and itunes says its detected but cant be identified properly.  My 4th gen nano connects just fine.

  • Nano not recognized by Windows - tried all of the forum hints

    SOOOO frustrating.
After downloading the latest update, my 4gb nano is no longer recognized by Windows or Itunes. It does not show up in device manager or even as an 'unrecognized device' in Device Manager. My wifes Nano (identical) shows up immediately on the same computer. My nano is not recognized on her computer, so it is definitely something with the Ipod, not the computer(s).
I've tried putting into disk mode, and I've followed the instructions on the web page that mentioned using the HP USB formatting tool. No dice - the computer just doesn't think this thing is a USB device. It charges just fine, plays just fine, etc. I've put it through all the diagnostic mode tests, and still nothing.
I really hate to pay some enormous fee to fix what was obviously some bug in the update.
Anyone have any other ideas ? I've reset the nano to factory defaults, etc. Is there a way to 'wipe it clean' when any computer doesn't recognize it ?
    Thanks !

OK I had this issue found answer on another discussion topic. You have to reformat your iPOD drive to FAT32 using your computer and then use the updater to restore.
Here is what I did and it worked:
    1. Connect your iPOD and put into disk mode (hold down menu and select until apple logo appears, then immediately hold down select and play/pause until iPOD enters disk mode)
    2. Find out what drive your iPOD is on by looking in My Computer (e.g. E:, G: or I:)
    3. Go to start menu --> run
    4. Enter cmd and select'OK'
    5. Black dos box comes up
    6. type "format I: /FS:FAT32 /Q (enter)"
(I: is the drive name - change to your drive if different)
    7. type enter when it asks for the disk.
    8. Leave disk label blank. (just hit enter when prompted)
    9. After finish formatting use system tray to safely remove hardware from the drive.
    10. Restart computer
    11. Launch ipod updater
    12. connect ipod
    13. After recognizes iPOD - select restore
    14. Let it complete restore successful - iPod may still show the do not disconnect
    15. Disconnect ipod (again using system tray)
    16. Restart computer
    17. Launch iTunes
    18. Connect iPOD should be recognized by iTUNES (FINALLY!!)
If not try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes - then connect iPOD
ABOVE worked for me. I had to do for two nanos after the updater caused them to crap out.

  • Nano not recognized by Windows, help!

I just got a second generation Nano, but whenever I plug it into my USB port it will say the following message:
    USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
I had a first generation Nano that had no problems syncing with iTunes, but that one got corrupted, so I resorted to getting a new one.
I have tried the Five Rs, erased iTunes entirely and redownloaded Version 7.3 by way of the Apple website, and I have gone to the Genius Bar at my local Apple store only to have them give me another Nano with the same results. I don't know what else to do! Please help!

Even if no new drivers are available for your computer, read the last section and update your USB driver.

Try a drive letter Z and do this with all other USB devices other than your keyboard and mouse disconnected (this includes disconnecting your printer).

  • IPod Nano not recognized on Windows 7 or iTunes

I just bought an iPod Nano. Windows 7 and the latest iTunes 10.6.3.25 does't recognize my iPod. Windows also did not ask me for my iPod name when plugging in the 1st time. Please help.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • PCI-6014 not recognized by Windows 2000

I recently purchased and just installed a PCI-6014 in a new Dell Optiplex running Windows 2000 (sp2, we have stayed at sp2 due to problems we have had with sp3, sp4). On this same machine I have LabVIEW 7.0 with all the bells, including NI-DAQ 7.0. When I put the pci card in for the first time (and every one of many times I have restarted since) I NEVER have seen the "new hardware found" message come up. That's bad sign one. And the hardware device manager doesn't see it either (I think that would follow from no new hardware being detected..) Then I have run MAX 3.0 (also on the machine) and all it finds is this bizarre thing called "PXI System" under devices and interfaces. I also have an eight port serial card in this machine which MAX does see. I eventually removed both the Serial card and the PCI-6014 (daq card) and even after a restart the "PXI system" device or whatever STILL shows up under devices and interfaces... So I just don't know what that is?? Any help there would be appreciated.. So question one is what is "PXI system" likely referring to?? ..And to say more about it when you click the plus sign next to the "PXI system" entry it shows what appears to be a VISA resource name of PXIO::MEMACC. But again that shows up even with the card removed.
Back to the PCI card seemingly not being recognized I also read somewhere that there could be issues with this card and the new version of NI-DAQ 7.0. So I uninstalled that version from the machine and put on the version that came with the PCI card, NI-DAQ 6.9.3. But same story... Windows doesn't see it and unless this PXI system is somehow referring to this PCI card (??) then MAX doesn't seem to be seeing it either... Any advice on how to get this card up and running or how to truly troubleshoot to see if the card was dead out of the box?? ...Something I have never had happen before and somehow I still think it is just some silliness on my part...
Lastly, when I looked for the documentation for this card amont the long, long list of daq boards listed in the NI-DAQ software, nowhere did I find an entry for this PCI-6014 card. And I looked carefully. Does that mean I have a horribly old or outdated card??
Any help would be appreciated... thanks...

I am glad to hear that you got your card recognized correctly, too bad you have some bad PCI slots, though. The entry is shown by default and cannot be removed, but if you were to ever have a PXI chassis attached, your cards would be listed under this option, it is also where you would configure your controller and your chassis type. Also by default, there are no entries under this heading since you are not connected to a PXI system.

  • Nano not recognized in windows or itunes

Hello all, I have a new laptop with windows 8.1 and will recognize my ipod touch but not my older nano, it's like i doesn't exist. It's not in itunes or USB drivers. I've tried reinstalling itunes, tried different leads, it works still on my old pc. Is there a compatibility issue maybe ? thanks

  • 6th gen nano not recognized by windows 7 64 bit

My nano is not seen by my computer or Itunes. also when i download itunes there appear to be no drivers for mobile support. what am i doing wrong? I tried all the steps found on apple support and nothing works. My sync cable is brand new and all my usb ports work fine. help please.

Working solution on win 7 32 & 64 with driver lj1010serieshb-vista, did as follow:
connected printer, windows tried to auto install and failed, device was listed as unspecified.
googled for lj1010serieshb-vista(32/64).zip driver, downloaded from hp website, unzipped and extracted files.
Start > Run > PrintManagement.msc , then Print Servers > Localhost , right click on drivers > add driver > next > choose x86/x64 > next > have disk > browse to location of extracted
files, select hpc1015e.inf > ok > select hp laserjet 1010 hb > next > finish
Repeat above process and this time select select hp laserjet 1015 hb > next > finish , this step is needed as stated on previous post some files are missing on the 1010 driver and adding 1015 fixes the problem.
Now back to Devices and printers , right click on the unspecified device > troubleshoot > then will ask to search for driver, select "apply this fix" , it will find and install the correct driver from previous step > then will ask to set printer
as default, select "apply this fix" > then will ask if you want to share printer, select "skip this fix" if you don't want to share > close troubleshooter.
Now i have perfectly working printer, 'preferences'  is working and not crashing win explorer and printer doesn't hung.
I guess you could first add the two drivers to your system before
connecting your printer and it would install perfectly but who would though this old printer would not work trough windows update.
thanks to the people who went by trial and error to find a working solution.

  • 7th gen iPod Nano not recognized with Windows 8

I am running Win8 and am having trouble getting my 7th gen Nano to be recognized either as a device on my PC or in iTunes. Is the Nano compatible with Win8? I have worked thru many of the troubleshooting guides and Apple support pages. Have the most current version of iTunes and have stopped and restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service all to no avail. Any other suggestions?

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • Nano Not Recognized by Windows or Itunes

This just happened. I've been synching my nano forever, including my runs with my Nike +Ipod. And today, my computer no longer recognizes my Ipod. Windows also does not recognize it, so I am unable to restore and/or upgrade the Ipod Software. I have tried:
    1. Rebooting PC/Rebooting Ipod (5 r's)
    2. Reinstalling iTunes
    3. Checking my Device Manager
    4. Tried this with 3 different PC's/2 different cables
But if no computer recognizes it, how will I ever be able to restore or reinstall the software?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kristen

Can you put it in Disk Mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651) and then have your computer see it?

  • Ipod nano not recognized by Windows 7 USB

I am having trouble getting iTunes to recognize my ipod nano after installing 11.02.26.  It seems I go through this after every update of itunes.  I get the following message:
An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.  Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install Itunes again.
I have tried all of this to no avail.

  • IPod Nano not recognized by Windows

Thousands of others have posted about this problem on this and other websites.
When I plug-in my iPod, Windows provides a message that it is an "unrecognized USB device". (This happens in XP and Vista.) Device Manager shows lists it as an Unrecognized Device with no driver. I have spent at least 10 hours reading web posts from users with the same problem and trying possible fixes. None has worked.
At the local Apple store the reps said that they would provide a 50% discount on a replacement. This policy seems unfair to customers. The thousands of posts suggest the product is defective. How many other thousands of customers paid for a replacement without posting? Now that I know of the defect, why would I ever buy another one?
