  Windows XP

Try this:
1. Put the iPod into disk mode:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
2. Connect it to your computer, and open MyComputer
3. Open the drive representing the iPod
4. Navigate to iPod_Control > iTunes
5. Find a file named iEKInfo
6. Make a copy of it and store it on your desktop
7. Find a file named iTunesDB
8. Make a copy of it and store it on your desktop, as well
***DO NOT DELETE THESE FILES***
1. Click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts
2. Create a new, administrative user account on your computer
3. Log out of your current account, and into your new one
4. Restore the iPod on the new account:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
5. When you're setting up the iPod in iTunes, remove the checkmark from "automatically update all songs and playlists"
6. Download the free single of the week from the iTunes Music Store (the link is on the lowest left hand corner of the music store's home page)
7. Make sure this file plays in your iTunes library
8. Drag it over to your iPod in the source list
9. Click on the eject button after the song updates (it's to the right of the iPod in the source lists, it's a triangle with a line underneath it)
10. Disconnect the iPod, and try to play the song.
If the song plays, do this:
1. Log out of the new user and log into the older one. Make sure you're clicking "log off" and not "switch user" or your iTunes will not work.
2. Reconnect your iPod to the computer, and drag some of the older purchased music that would not play on the iPod to the iPod.
3. Eject your iPod again, and try to play your purchased music. Also check to see if the free single still plays.

  • Nano is skipping downloaded songs

I have been downloading songs from iTunes regularly with no problem playing them either on my computer or my nano until my last download earlier this month. My computer still plays all the songs but when I updated my ipod it started just cycling through all the downloaded songs without stopping to play any of them. I tried the 5 R's recommended on this site several times but the songs still just cycle through. They are all listed on my nano but won't play. I thought it was the hardware so my local Apple store exchanged it for me, but the same thing is happening on the new one as well. What am I doing wrong?
HP Pavilion 475c   Windows XP   Running Norton Internet Security software

If it's purchased music, try the following...
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer and iPod..
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
If they don't, try this "test"...
Deauthorize the computer. (Go to advanced-->deauthorize computer in iTunes)
Create a new user in the system. (Start-->control panel-->user accounts-->create a new account)
Download the free song of the week in the new user account. (First, log out of the current user and log in to the new user account. Then open iTunes and download the free song)
Play the song in that username to authorize it.
Restore the iPod in the New User account, sync just the Free song of the Week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it plays fine on the iPod when syncing with this user name (after you followed the above instructions), it would indicate a bad iTunes Library File. Post back for instructions on how to fix that.
Now, if it still won't work (you followed the above instructions with the new user account) and the iPod still won't play the songs, then post back.

  • Nano Skips Certain Songs

Hello, is there a cure for my Nano? It skips certain songs. It will say play 3 minutes of a track then just move on? I have tried a resest, update, re-install - well I have tried everything I can think off!
It keeps happening on the same songs - however they play fine in iTunes!
    TIA.

This may not be your issue - but I've downloaded junk songs that play quite well on my PC, but reek havoc when I put them on my iPod. I've determined it only happens when I download the music from an "unreliable source" and not from iTunes.
If you're getting all your songs from iTunes, then this bit of info doesn't help - best of luck.

  • IPod Nano skips certain songs

My iPod Nano, version 1.0.2 Mac, model MD480LL, skips a handful of specific songs. When listening to music, one of these songs comes up for half a second and then skips to the next song, whether on shuffle or not. When I select one of these songs from the menu it does the same thing. These certain songs do not play on my iPod Nano at all. However, they play perfectly fine on my iMac, iPad, iPhone, and even my old 2nd gen iPod touch. My Nano is the only one that has this problem. I have tried restarting the Nano and restoring it, and the same songs still won't play. I've tried everything I could think of. I've serached through countless forums and have found many people with similar problems (but none exactly like mine) and I have tried every suggestion in each of these forums and none have helped. If you have any suggestions, any ideas at all, please don't hesitate to share.

First off, does your iPod only skip on songs that you have purchased from the iTunes Store? Or does it vary from some of those purchases, to some songs from CD's you've imported?
Also, does there seem to be a pattern, where your iPod only skips on particular songs, or is it ever-changing; for example, a few songs skipped yesterday, and now they don't skip anymore, but are replaced by different songs.
Have you tried restoring your iPod? For more info, take a look here -> Restoring your iPod to Factory Settings
If that attempt doesn't work, then try turning off your iPod's EQ settings.
Go to "Settings > EQ" on your iPod. If you currently have a specific option set (i.e., "Treble Booster", "Vocal"), then try switching your setting to "Off".
    See if that changes anything.
One last question: are the songs playing fine in iTunes, although they may not be playing well on your iPod?

I had the same problem for about 2 weeks and just fixed it tonight! YEAH!! I followed the 5R's and the first 4 did nothing. So, I wasn't very hopeful for the 5th, but I made a back up of my library just in case, downloaded the latest version of iTunes and RESTORED my iPod back to the factory settings and it works beautifully now. No skipping on any songs at all. And, mine didn't matter if they my songs or iTunes songs, it did it to any song that it didn't like. Good luck!

  • 8gb Nano skips certain songs

I've just purchased my first ipod, the 8gb nano.
I am on Windows XP, USB2, Itunes 7.0.1.8 and ipod software 1.1
For some reason, many songs skip. They get to a certain point in the song and then skip forwards to the next song. This happens at that same place in a song, but at different times for different songs. It is on mp3 files, they play fine in itunes.
I did a restore to factory default (still on ipod 1.1) and loaded on just 1 song through itunes and it skips in the same place.
    Any ideas?

Hi there, I purchased an Ipod Nano 8GB, I run win XP and keep my MP3 library neat and organised. I was very upset to see that my Ipod Nano would skip tracks half way through at different places, then when i skiped back to replay the track it was missing. But when i took the track and played on itunes it was fine. I sent two nanos back to amazon for the same fault and with the last one, thought I would try some experiments. To my joy, I found a solution. It is a long winded one and I dont really understand why but it seems that the fault is with variable bitrate MP3 files. I saved a copy of my MP3's then converted all my library to Apples AAC standard. I no longer have the problem.

  • My iPod nano skips some songs for no apparent reason

When i try to play songs on my iPod nano 7th gen, it skips some of them without playing.
The album art and track name shows up for a split-second and then it goes to the next track. Sometimes it skips several tracks by the same artist at a stretch. The songs the ipod keeps skipping play perfectly on iTunes. I tried erasing all the songs and sopying them again, but it didn't solve the problem. (I haven't tried restoring the ipod yet)

    Hi there,
You may want to check and see if the shake to shuffle feature is enabled. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • New Nano skipping through songs

Today is the first day I've listened to my brand new Nano 8GB. It was fine at first, then a song (track 3) that I had just listened to an hour before wouldn't play - the screen would freeze for a second and would skip to track 7, then 15, then 17 on its own. Same exact thing every time I tried to listen to track 3. I reset the iPod and the problem was gone, but I understand this may be a common problem? I'm using Windows 2000 and only have tracks from CD, not from iTunes. Should I take it back to the Apple store?

  • My 4th Generation Nano skips songs and won't play some of them

So, over the past couple of days while I put my 4th Generation Nano on Shuffle mode, it will skip over some songs. Not a delayed reaction, but... say I skip one song. Then it'lll skip over a few, and when I hit the back arrow, it won't play it.
Also, as an example, I was listening to Alesana, then it suddenly switched to Disturbed, then skipped over it, and started to play Bullet For My Valentine. When I went to go click back to play Disturbed, it wouldn't play and skipped back to BFMV.
    Help?
And one more thing, my iPod has been also doing this weird thing where it will say it's playing one song, then be playing another. Such as... it will say it is playing Apology by Alesana, and really be playing Guarded by Disturbed.
Is there any possible way to fix this? I've tried restoring it on iTunes, and reseting my iPod multiple times. It's only 3 years old, I don't want to have to bury it this soon! D:
    -Trisha

If that didn't work you should try downloading the Latest iPod Updater and then Restoring the iPod to factory settings.

  • Nano keeps skipping over songs

My Nano is two weeks old and over the weekend, it starting "skipping" over songs. I would choose album, hit play, then it would rapidly move through each album song until it got to the end. It skips over each song immediately, and does not playback the song even for a second. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Ok then...
-Try a reset on your Nano (your manual should explain how to do this)
-If problem persists download the latest iPod updater and perform a restore on the Nano. A restore erases all content on the Nano so make sure all of your music exists on your computer before doing this. The iPod Updater can be downloaded from -->http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Why does iTunes Match download songs that I skip?

I haven't seen this question posted yet, but feel free to direct me to any pertinent posts.
I've been using iTunes Match for the last couple days, and all in all I really enjoy the service. There is one issue that I've yet to see addressed on these boards yet though; why is iTunes Match downloading songs that I skip? I listen to all my music in random, so occasionally there will be a song I just don't want to hear at the moment. I assumed that if I don't listen to a song completely that it would not be downloaded to my device. Not true apparently. I was able to use about half a gig of data in a few hours just by skipping songs. Every song that was skipped, even if I didn't hear a single second of it, was downloaded (at an average size of 5-8 MB). I sincerely hope this is just a bug and not a 'feature'.
Any insight on this would be appreciated.

I have noticed this too. I filled up my phone VERY fast yesterday.
and deleting is not easy, lots of left swipe DELETE action, took a while.

  • How do i download songs from my itunes account to wifes ipod nano?

How do download songs from my itunes account to my wifes ipod nano with her own account?

To what iTunes library is the nano normally synced? The iTunes library you use (i.e. all tracks are in a single iTunes library). An iTunes library in a different user account on that same computer? Another computer? We need to know your setup and scenario before we can offer intelligent advice.

  • Skip in song -- can download again?

I just downloaded a song from the iTunes store, but there's a skip in it.
I went to my account and clicked the button "Report a Problem" then nothing happened except the most recent 2 songs that I downloaded were labeled with "reported problem". Well, there's no indication what happens now. (I was expecting at least a dialog box with a "comments" section.)
I just want to download the song again, hoping that the iTunes archive is OK and maybe something happened during the download.
Is there any way for me to speak with a human at iTunes/Apple about this or chat or email or something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's only a buck per song, but hey it's still money and I want the song without the skip.
PB G4, Mac Mini G4, MacBook Pro, MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Okay -- I figured it out.
After clicking the "Report a Problem" button then each recently downloaded song has "Report a Problem" in its row. It looks just exactly like the rest of the text in that line but it's actually a hyperlink that, if you click on it, opens a new page where you can select what the problem is and enter some text to explain.
The iTunes instructions are as follows:
    1. Locate the item in your Purchase History
    2. Click the "Report a Problem" link
    3. Select "I didn't receive this item"
    4. Enter a description of the issue that you are experiencing in the comments field and hit Submit
That's not really it. After step 2 you need to click on the words "Report a Problem" that show up on the line showing the song you want to report a problem with. Maybe this only happens for when there's more than one song in the list of recently purchased ones. Seemed pretty obscure to me. I mean, the text saying "Report a Problem" was the same bold black as the rest of the line showing what song it was and all that.
So now I guess I'm waiting on an email from Apple, but that's a guess -- there's no indication of what happens now either. I'll mark this solved though, so nobody wastes their time thinkin' about it.

I curently have one ipod mini and one itunes account.
I have followed the little instruction thing that came with the new ipod nano but i have no luck.

I would just like the songs to transfer to the new ipod nano. everytime i plug it into my computer it just is charging the battery and is not downloading any of the songs from the existing itunes account. do i need to make a brand new itunes account?
i would really not like to make a new itunes account on my other computer due to the ammount of space taken up by it.
