Nano skips every purchased song I transfer.

I just bought a Nano 4gb, I've been using Itunes for a couple years.
My problem is that EVERY purchased song I transfer to the Nano won't play. When I try to play an Itunes-purchased song, the Nano displays it for a second, then skips to the next song. This continues until it gets to a standard, unprotected MP3 file from my own collection (also transfered via Itunes). All of the purchased music plays fine within Itunes.
I've tried the 5-r's, reloading Itunes, Ipod updater, unregistering, ect.. No go.
This is extremely frustrating. Help!!

Did you read my post near the top of the thread? I've also experienced this, as have others. Around Thanksgiving (late November for non US iPodders) there was some talk among our user group members. A small handful of us had experienced suddenly not being able to play our iTunes store music and then restoring the ability by simply syncing again. Most of us who had experienced it tended to keep the same playlists for a long time while those who frequently synced were in the minority. I don't know if anyone has actually confirmed that a particular cause of skipping is related to how much time has elapsed since the last sync but it does seem to be a recurring theme. Then again, the mind is a pattern making machine and makes them even when no actual pattern exists.

  • HT1386 how can i get all of my music transferred to my iphone? only itunes purchased songs will transfer, not my whole library.

How can i transfer my itunes music library to my iphone? currently it will only transfer itunes purchased songs and not my whole library.

For non-purchased music like CD rip music, or website downloaded songs, you need some third party software to copy the music from iPod to mac. If you need details, here is a guide about how to get music from iPod to macbook. Hope it helps.

  • Since upgrade, unpurchased songs no longer playing in car.  Skips to purchased songs only.  Anything I can do?

Any help greatly appreciated.  Years ago I downloaded some music and have been playing it for some time.  Car, computer everywhere.
Now since doing the upgrade in October I can no longer play this music that was not purchased, just downloaded.
Skips ahead and will play only purchased songs.
    Anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks very much

I completely agree with you on it not being easy to get a list of purchases from account info. It's completely ridiculous that one can't cut/paste from that list. If you happen to have saved the confirmation emails, you can at least cut/paste from those.
itunes menu > help > provide itunes feedback
If enough people ask for it, maybe they'll change it on the account info page.
let's back up, though...are you putting these songs back into itunes after a PC reformat?
One thing to do, create a smart playlist with criteria "kind contains protected". Select all items in that smart playlist, and drag it to the green purchased playlist. Press the Skip button if you see it, so you won't get duplicates. That will add all newer itunes-plus purchased songs.
Then change that smart playlist criteria to "kind contains protected". That will add older non-plus songs.

  • ITunes 8:  randomly skips a purchased song!

If I try to play one of five recently purchased songs iTunes jumps to a random song instead. When I create a search with just the single song, there is no sound, the counter does not advance, but the play count goes crazy as if playing a zero length file over and over. Found another, older song with same symptom.
Off hand I'd say it's a corrupt file. How do I get a refund?

Do you have automatic downloads turned on? (on the Mac)
"doesn't give me access to anything like the icloud icons to download the album"
Turn them on, they are off by default,

  • Nano Skipping Parts of Songs

My iPod Nano first generation is about a year old now and I am starting to have this problem with it. I'll start playing a song on it and about 1 minute into the song it will skip and go to the next song. It doesn't do this with every song though, anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

This is a consistent and annoying problem that seems to span all generations of iPods. There is no easy fix for the majority of the 'songs skipping' occurances. 5R's cubed will not solve it. Latest software version - v1.2.1 - may be the problem, but I have no idea how to go back and re-load an earlier software version. Help on that would be appreciated.

  • Purchased songs wont transfer to Itouch

I just got a new mac and I transferred all my old songs to my new computer and they all transferred to my Itouch fine but the new songs I bought on my mac wont transfer. Any ideas??

Kathy, your purchased music not going on iPod is usually a symptom that your iPod software is not current. The following link will explain how to update your software using the iPod updater. Hope this helps!

    Try this:
    1. Put the iPod into disk mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    2. Connect it to your computer, and open MyComputer
    3. Open the drive representing the iPod
    4. Navigate to iPod_Control > iTunes
    5. Find a file named iEKInfo
    6. Make a copy of it and store it on your desktop
    7. Find a file named iTunesDB
    8. Make a copy of it and store it on your desktop, as well
    ***DO NOT DELETE THESE FILES***
    1. Click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts
    2. Create a new, administrative user account on your computer
    3. Log out of your current account, and into your new one
    4. Restore the iPod on the new account:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
    5. When you're setting up the iPod in iTunes, remove the checkmark from "automatically update all songs and playlists"
    6. Download the free single of the week from the iTunes Music Store (the link is on the lowest left hand corner of the music store's home page)
    7. Make sure this file plays in your iTunes library
    8. Drag it over to your iPod in the source list
    9. Click on the eject button after the song updates (it's to the right of the iPod in the source lists, it's a triangle with a line underneath it)
    10. Disconnect the iPod, and try to play the song.
If the song plays, do this:
    1. Log out of the new user and log into the older one. Make sure you're clicking "log off" and not "switch user" or your iTunes will not work.
    2. Reconnect your iPod to the computer, and drag some of the older purchased music that would not play on the iPod to the iPod.
    3. Eject your iPod again, and try to play your purchased music. Also check to see if the free single still plays.

  • IPhone 3gs skips every song

Went to play music on iPhone 3gs 5.0.1 and it skipped every single song on the phone. When I select a song to listen to, it goes on the song (it indicating that it is abouts to play from the start), it then skips to the next song, then the next etc. Shake to shuffle is off, shuffle is off, repeat is off. I have tried re-syncing my music back onto it.
I recently plugged it into a new laptop, rather than my old PC. I had Home Shared all music across to the laptop to make sure there would be no issues, but the skipping songs has started occuring since i plugged it into my laptop. any ideas?

It happens when the iPhone discharge totally!! HEEEEELPPPPP!!!!

  • IPod skipps all purchased songs after a reset

    Hi,
Since I upgraded to version 7 of iTunes I have had the problem where after a reset my iPod mini will skip all purchased songs and only play songs ripped from cd's
(this did not happen at all with v6 of iTunes).
The only way around this is to hook it back up to the pc and let iTunes connect. Once it is connected and it says ok to disconnect I can disconnect my iPod and the songs will play until the next time it is reset.
Where can I go or who can I contact to see about getting this bug in the software fixed?
    Thanks,
    Roy...

  • My purchased songs aren't playing anymore.  why?

I need help. i bought 4 songs, and they had all been playing just fine until yesterday. the songs i transfered from my cds work just fine, but the iPod mini just skips the purchased songs. what do i do?

Kait, sometimes an easy fix for this is to de-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then to re-authorize it. You do this by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store in iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, then the computer will be authorized again. Sync you iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes (4.9).

  • Does home sharing transfer EVERY song, or just purchased songs?

i am trying to find my songs. I have a desktop that i put itunes on, and all our ipods. I now have a laptop and installed itunes on that. (same account) I use the laptop mostly for my ipod touch, and the kids use the desktop for there ipod's. They purchase more songs than I do, but I want some of them songs.
Yes I know I could just go plug my ipod into the desktop and get purchased songs that way, but I want to be able to get them off my laptop. So I was trying the home sharing. I thought it was sucessful.
Does home sharing also transfer the songs from the library that were not purchased? Like the songs that were added from a cd? Cause those I can't seem to find on the laptop.

We are able to share imported CDs.  In fact I got a USB record player so all my vinyl albums are being shared even though my 16 year old son doesn't seem too excited for my music :-)

  • IPod Nano skips certain songs

My iPod Nano, version 1.0.2 Mac, model MD480LL, skips a handful of specific songs. When listening to music, one of these songs comes up for half a second and then skips to the next song, whether on shuffle or not. When I select one of these songs from the menu it does the same thing. These certain songs do not play on my iPod Nano at all. However, they play perfectly fine on my iMac, iPad, iPhone, and even my old 2nd gen iPod touch. My Nano is the only one that has this problem. I have tried restarting the Nano and restoring it, and the same songs still won't play. I've tried everything I could think of. I've serached through countless forums and have found many people with similar problems (but none exactly like mine) and I have tried every suggestion in each of these forums and none have helped. If you have any suggestions, any ideas at all, please don't hesitate to share.

First off, does your iPod only skip on songs that you have purchased from the iTunes Store? Or does it vary from some of those purchases, to some songs from CD's you've imported?
Also, does there seem to be a pattern, where your iPod only skips on particular songs, or is it ever-changing; for example, a few songs skipped yesterday, and now they don't skip anymore, but are replaced by different songs.
Have you tried restoring your iPod? For more info, take a look here -> Restoring your iPod to Factory Settings
If that attempt doesn't work, then try turning off your iPod's EQ settings.
Go to "Settings > EQ" on your iPod. If you currently have a specific option set (i.e., "Treble Booster", "Vocal"), then try switching your setting to "Off".
    See if that changes anything.
One last question: are the songs playing fine in iTunes, although they may not be playing well on your iPod?

  • I had my shuffle synced with this computer and library. then i went and did it with an older nano. now my computer is not recognizing my shuffle. how do i fix this without losing my purchased songs or library?

i had and old nano that i havent touched in years. well just recently i synced my new shuffle to my computer and all went well. i then wanted to put the newly purchased songs on my nano. well when i did that somehow my computer no longer recognizes my shuffle. not to mention someone cut me off the other day and my nano went for a swim and will not work. please help me

    Try this:
Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Purchased Songs Skip because of 6.0.4

The 6.0.4 update is obviously messing with people's ability to listen to their purchased songs, in my case on both my Ipod Mini. Resetting doesn't seem to work for anyone beyond two days. This isn't because of bad sectors or funny harddrives. There is something in the latest update that is causing this problem. This fix is not a fix, it's a problem and you need to start with what 6.0.4 is doing differently. The Ipod is showing the songs are there, but it is simply skipping over them when you go to play them. Everyone here who has posted regarding this problem is indicating the same source: the latest update.

"There is something in the latest update that is causing this problem."
If that were true then it would be affecting every single user who purchases music from iTunes. It doesn't affect me, nor any members of my family and friends who use Windows.
    Try this:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

  • Itunes problems with new nano, purchased songs

Hello all. I am having a few problems with my itunes and newly purchased nano that hopefully you guys can give me some advice on. First of all, when i plug in my nano, it does not recognize it unless i close itunes and reopen it. Then, it takes a few minutes to open and acts like it is a new nano every time i open it. Meaning, it asks me to name the nano and asks me to apply all the settings etc. After that it works. I then can eject it. If I then re open itunes, with my nano not plugged in, itunes thinks that my nano is plugged in and says its corrupted. If i attempt to do anything in itunes, it freezes up.
In an unrelated problem, i am forced to authorize my computer to play my purchased songs every time i open itunes. It never remembers when I authorize it.
Thanks in advance for your help i definitely appreciate it!

OK, could not resist. I did go ahead and put my old run history back into the new & now restored Nano. No problems. Everything is fine. (Be remember, this is not something that is supported or approved by Apple or Nike.)
There may be no connection between adding the old run data files to the new Nano and the sound & freezing problems. Others have already complained about those.
However, what I will say is that you should never mess around with the Nike+ xml "Preferences" file or the "Best" file. These are invisible for a reason. You can put your old xml run data files into your "latest" folder and thus get them on your new Nano, but you CANNOT change your Totals on your new Nano no matter what you muck around with. However, if you try it and things go wrong, doing a "restore" should save the day.
And it should save the day for sound problems and recurring Nano freezes unless you have a defective Nano.
