Make sure your headphones are plugged ALL the way in, meaning the white part of the headphones is flush with the Nano and you cannot see any silver from the plug still showing.

  • My nano stops playing

My nano stops playing music after about 45 seconds, then shutsdown. I've tried a re-start on the nano and on my Mac while syncing, neither worked. Any ideas?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • IPod Nano stops playing

My iPod Nano 5g stops playing a file (after 2 hours), but it plays Ok in iTunes to the end.   Latest software.  Manual synch. The file is long (29 hours of audio).   How can I get my iPod to play it through?   (Tried restore and recopy.)

I couldn't find any documentation regarding this, but I believe the 2 hour time limit is the maximum length your iPod can play of an audio file.  So you may need to break this one up if at all possible.  If not, I am afraid you are out of luck.

  • Nano stops playing

Why does my Nano 7th Gen stop playing after two hours (shuffle from playlist)?

The first thing to try would be to restore it in iTunes. Just click on the name of the ipod to the left, select the summary screen and click restore

  • Nano stops playing podcasts after apx 30 mins.

Each track I have is apx. 1 hour long. My nano will just stop playing them after about 30-33 minutes and return to the default main menu. On rare occasions it will go passed that point but if I touch any control, such as the volume, it stops playing.
Each track plays the full 1 hour+ on problem on iTunes.
    Any information is good information.

I have a nano 2g, 8gig and it stops playing podcasts when there are still 45 seconds left. It doesn't do this all the time but it happens frequently.

  • 2G iPod Nano Stops Playing at Random

My wife's 2nd Gen nano (4 GB pink in case it matters) stops playing after a few songs. The number of songs is not consistent. And it doesn't matter how the songs are selected (playlist, genre, artist, etc).
I've done the five R's already and that hasn't helped.
What other information can I give you?

This may seem like a simple question but: Is it locked?
Related to that: Is the hold button fully over to the locked position and the padlock symbol available on screen?

  • My Ipod nano stops playing in the middle of a song.

My brand new never been used ipod nano cant get threw one song without stopping. The screen goes black and the music stops. I have to press the power button to get it to turn back on. But I still have to press play to get the song to come back on. Its brand new why isn't it working?

  • My nano is fully charged and when I use the earphones it comes with, the nano stops playing my music after a few seconds and turns off.  But when I use another earphone, it's okay and stays on. How do I keep the nano from turning off after a few seconds?

Why does my nano keep turning off after a few seconds while I'm listening to my music?  It's fully charged and brand new.

I've tried everything in the article "Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista and Windows 7 video playback performance issues''. Here are my results.
    My computer meets the requirements.
All software (Windows, iTunes and QuickTime) are up to date.
As for updating my drivers, I found nothing labeled 'Video'. The closest thing I found in Computer/Manage/Device Manager was to click + next to 'Display Adapters' under that I found 'Intel (R) HD Graphics Family' which I right-cicked. From the menu, instead of 'Properties', I selected 'Update Driver Software...', then I selected 'Search Automatically for updated driver software'. I saw the messages "Searching for Software... Searching online for Software... The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date." I got these same messages when I searched for updated audio drivers.
My computer is already at the highest display resolution. (1366 x 768 recommended) That's as high as my resolution will go. Hmm, I noticed the article's example shows '(1920 x1080 recommended)'. Is my max 1366 x 768 resolution high enough?
As for QuickTime, deselecting 'Enable Direct3D video acceleration' had no effect. Disabling the DirectX entirely (Safe mode (GDI only)) allowed the audio to play, but there was no video, only a black screen.
As for turning on DMA, the only item under 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' is 'Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller' So I right-clicked, selected 'Properties'. There's no 'Advanced Settings' tab in there. The tabs are 'General, Drivers, Details, Resources' no 'Advanced Settings' anywhere. So much for that.
'Readyboost' was already set at 'Do not use'.
No 'NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA (SATA) controllers' exist in my computer.
The problem still exists. Please help.

  • My nano stops playing every song

... 1 or 2 or 3 minutes in. Have to hit the 'on' button then the 'play' arrow to make it continue. This happens 2-4 times in the course of one song. Can I adjust it in 'settings'? Is my nano just broken or ill?

    Hey cmccnano,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you have not already done so, does resetting your iPod nano help the issue?

If not, you may want to isolate further by restoring the iPod to factory settings. This will help us determine if the issue is hardware related:

  • My nano stops playing mp3s randomly.

It pauses itself somewhere between 3 and 30 minutes of playback (i'm estimating). It plays uninterrupted when the speaker is used. This led me to think its a headphone jack problem. But it also plays uninterrupted when the radio is used with headphones. i've tried reseting, reinstalling and restoring. Intried cleaning the headphone jack with a toothpick and a small bit of tissue. Is this a headphone jack problem, or logic board issue, or what? thanks in advance!

Do these same MP3 tracks play okay in iTunes?  Are these multiple MP3 tracks over the 30 minutes or is it usually one giant MP3 track?
Try running these tracks through MP3 Validator to make sure they are not corrupted in some way.

  • Nano stops playing after a few seconds

I tried everything and I did not do the new download. I thought it was a problem with the player, but it wasn't. I found a small piece of lint in the headphone jack. I couldn't believe it, so if any of you are having trouble with your Nano shutting down, check for lint.

    Thanks for sharing your solution!
