Nano suddenly not playing on Bose Sound Dock

I tried to play my Nano on my Bose Sound Dock today and it suddenly won't play. It has worked fine up until today. When I set it up, it would say that it wouldn't charge, which I understand, but it would always play. Now, there is no sound whatsoever. Any ideas?

I had this problem a lot and found that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, but here is what I did just plugged the dock in and then it worked. maybe to do with battery.
Thanks
andy

  • Updated iPhone no longer plays on bose sound dock 10, or car adapter

I phone 4s used to work fine on Bose sound dock 10, and connector in Lexus LS 460, 2008.  Both devices stopped connecting after recent upgrade.

Thanks for the replies - yes, we are going to try resetting the Alpine unit and if this doesn't do it, wait for the next iPhone software update due in the next few days which I'm really hoping will rectify it. Will post again when there is any result.
It is very strange though, it worked fine even after updating to iOS4 months ago, and has only stopped working and displays "Error 01" in the last couple of weeks. I can still make and receive hands free calls via Bluetooth, just can't play music.

  • Since latest iTunes update my iPod Classic no longer plays in Bose Sound Dock - how can I fix?

My iPod Classic charges, but no longer has sound when plugged into my Bose Sound Dock. I have tried resetting my iPod per troubleshooting instructions on both the Apple and Bose websites. I have not had any issues with speakers before. This problem began after plugging iPod into MacBook Pro and updating iTunes. I have turned both devices off (unplugged Sound Dock from power source) and tried other outlets and still am unable to get sound from Sound Dock despite the fact that it still charges the iPod. iPod works with Bose headphones, but no longer in Sound Dock. Help! Is this fixable?

First make sure your Bose Sound Dock is turn on, and pick the right input of source.
Have you tried to increase the volume of your Bose system ?
If still does not solve, then do a Restore (not reset) for your iPod, which will erase your iPod completely and sync with your iTunes once again.
Then reconnect it with your Bose sound dock, if it still does not work, likely it can be a problem of your Bose.

  • 4.3 not compatible with Bose sound dock

I updated iPhone 3GS to 4.2 then 4.3 last week and I now get an error about incompatible product when I plug it in to my new Bose sound dock 10 (and I get no sound).before the updates it worked fine. My wife has the same phone still running 4.0.1 and hers still works fine. Any suggestions?
Perhaps apple would like to refund my $1000 spent on the sound dock

I am not sure about the certification you are talking about (will check) spoke to both apple phone support and BOSE support. Neither had heard about it or come across it. Apple suggested to contact BOSE and see if there was an update (which can't be done) - Spoke to BOSE and at least they were going to get someone who had an Iphone 3gs to update theirs and do a test. I did visit the apple reseller where I purchased the sound dock and they were no help stating they had no way of logging anything with apple. tried the iphone in another sound dock 10 which did exactly the same thing.

  • Ipod all of a sudden not communicating with Bose sound system

I am having trouble with my ipod communicating with my Bose music system. First off please let me mention that I have tried all troubleshooting procedures for both the ipod and the Bose system and nothing has help. I do believe that it is a malfunction with my ipod as my spouse has an iphone and it works like a charm while connected to the Bose system. Up until about two weeks ago I was able to enjoy my music without earphones or the ipod hooked to me, now I'm back to hooking the ipod and earphones up. About two weeks ago while my ipod was connected to the Bose system it started changing songs half way through and if I tried to control it by remote, buttons on the dock or the ipod controls it would just freeze up and no sound would come out. I am unable to forward to another song, change volume or even turn it on and off while docked in the Bose system. This problem just started before that I had no trouble with this. I have the latest update for my ipod so I shouldn't be having this trouble. I have turned it on and off and the same for the Bose system and have followed all the troubleshoothing tips and nothing has been resolved. As I said before my spouse's iphone works excellent on the dock this only happens with my ipod. With that said I am still able to listen to the music with the earphones with no problems.
Another problem I have noticed is that not all my songs that are downloaded to my ipod are visiable for me to select. Certain songs I have to search for as I cannot select them from title, artist, album, etc..
Please help me as it would be nice to enjoy my music without the ipod and earphone connected to me.

    Try Resetting the iPod
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
If the above doesn't work, it could be the earphone jack has been shorted, or clogged up and putting the Dock also in mute. This maybe repaired by 3rd Party iPod service.
    Have a nice day!

  • My Ipod Touch is giving a error message of 'This accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' whenever I dock it in my Bose Sound Dock and refuses to play but will charge the device?? am screaming mad and want to be able to play audio thru using the 2

my ipod touch will not play music thru the Bose sound dock and displays the message 'this accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' how can I fix it?

"This accessory is not supported" usually refers to an inability to charge the iPod, but the music should still play throguh the Bose dock. My iPod Touch works this way.
However, when the Bose refuses to make any sound, I unplug it from mains power for one minute. Then plug it back in and try again. This always sorts out the sound issue, but of course, it still will not charg the Touch.
    What happens in your case?

Bose confirmed this in an email:
    Hello Mr. XXXXX:
The iPod® Touch models are compatible with existing SoundDock® digital music system inserts. If your SoundDock system came with two universal inserts, then use the A insert for the 8GB and 16GB iPod Touch models.
If your SoundDock system came packaged with five inserts, order a new set of universal inserts by emailing us the SoundDock serial number and color, your daytime telephone number, and UPS shipping address. We will send you a set of universal inserts at no charge.

  • Bose Sound Docks are no longer compatible with Apple iPhones or iPods?

When plugging my iPhone 4S or 5, or my iPod 3rd Gen or 7th Gen into my Bose Sound Dock, I recieve a message that reads, "This iPhone/iPod is not compatible with this accessory" and will not play stored music.
    Background Info:
         - The Bose Sound Dock was designed to support Apple products.
         - All software/OS on the Apple products is current as of Dec 2013.
         - The Bose product doesn't have update-able software associated with it.
         - Clearly, something has changed with the Apple products.
What can be done to fix this so that iPhones and iPods will play again on Bose products?
I've unplugged/replugged the Bose Sound Dock, and I've powered down and powered up the Apple products expecting that something would reset, but these steps have proved to be ineffective and nothing has changed.

Ok, I was having the same issue which is why I came across this post (in search of an answer). I MAY have figured it out...I have an iPod, don't-remember-what generation, and it has always worked with my Bose sound dock portable speaker, approx 2-3 years. Anyway, a few months ago, the Bose stopped picking up that I "docked" my iPod onto it. A long while has gone by and we haven't done anything about it bc our speaker was out of warranty and didn't want to spend the $100 it costs to repair (thru Bose, don't know about other places $, but I've learned the hard way to stick to manufacturer for high-end brand device repair). Long story short, we really missed using our speaker outside and I decided to send it in instead of buying a new one (new one-year warranty comes with the repair, so I figured it was $100 cheaper than buying a new one). An added note, we tried putting my husbands iPhone 4S on the dock and it didn't read it, either; the Bose didn't charge either device, didn't acknowledge in anyway that a device was on the dock attachment piece. Back to present day... I got my speaker back from Bose, and I was so happy to try it out. I put my iPod on the attachment, and voila! It charged the iPod (so clearly it registered that a device was attached), but DID NOT PLAY MUSIC....Exact same message about incompatibility. So, when my husband got home, we tried his phone (this is last week, literally, and I was mad thinking it was the recent apple software update and that I just threw away $100). Guess what? His phone worked! Pandora, his music, you name it. When I called Bose and suggested it could be a software update issue? They replied it wasn't, that the sound dock works with the devices after update, but the piece was still bad, as it was not working correctly if it was not playing the iPod, regardless of the new update, and/or what generation it was. So my thoughts are that it is the attachment where you sit your device on the Bose that has gone faulty. I packaged up my speaker and it's going backs to Bose at their expense to repair. It stinks that I won't have it for Christmas to play music as we enjoy the outdoors, but at this point, I will just be content if they get it to work again!

  • I purchased the 5s yesterday and wanted to dock the phone into my Bose Sound Dock that I use for my IPOD and used for my previous Apple smart phone.  What steps do I need to take to use the feature of Pandora on this IPOD dock

I purchased a Apple 5s yesterday replacing my two year old Apple 3G.  With my old phone I used it to dock into a Bose Sound Dock to listen to Pandora and other music outlets.  The Bose dock also is used to play my IPOD.  What steps do I need to take to use my new phone on this dock to continue playing Pandora

This is the only thing I could find but it does not answer my question or even what I was told by the Global Support Rep.
Verizon has confirmed (here and here) they WILL unlock the SIM on the iPhone 4S, allowing for use of local SIM cards while traveling abroad (no word yet on whether this will allow for use on AT&T and T-Mobile.) This is different than the jailbreak unlocking method; SIM unlocking through Verizon is permanent and will not affect your warranty in any way.
    1. Meet the following requirements:
    * Must be a Verizon Wireless customer.
    * The iPhone 4S being unlocked must be active on a Verizon Wireless line of service.
    * The line of service must be active at least 60 days.
    * The line of service must be in good standing for the past 60 days.
    * Only one SIM Unlock per line every 10 months.
If you don't meet one or more of the above requirements, call anyway. You may still get lucky.
    2. Insert a foreign SIM into the SIM card slot on the side of your phone (only required to confirm that the unlock is successful.)
    3. Call 1-800-711-8300 (Verizon Global Support) and ask the representative for a SIM unlock. Occassionally a representative may not know exactly what you are referring to; make sure you are not transferred to a different department. You are in the right place. Explain that they should have a walkthrough on how to do this, and that it allows for the use of local, non-Verizon SIM cards while traveling abroad.
    4. Get confirmation from the rep that the unlock has been applied to your account, then check your phone to make sure it recognizes your SIM and can connect (if successful it will roam on AT&T, assuming you are calling from the USA.) You will NOT see an unlock confirmation in iTunes as that is for a factory-applied unlock only.
    5. Enjoy your new unlocked iPhone 4S!

I recently updated my iphone 3GS to the new iOS5 update and ever since then, it will not play music through my bose sound dock and it won't even charge. • Listening to ipod touch (2g) on Bose sound dock

I am trying to decide on purchasing the new ipod touch. From reading this forum I understand that the ipod touch 2g will not charge on the old Bose sound dock. Does anyone know if it will even play through the speakers on the sound dock and if this would damage the ipod? Thanks in advance for any information.

Thanks so much for the reply helifreak. Based on what you said I purchased the ipod touch. I can confirm that is does play on my old bose sound dock. As previously stated it will not charge though. I can't comment on if listening to the ipod on the bose is damaging my ipod but it seems fine so far.

  • We have a new iPod  Classic and would like some help in choosing "Import Settings" (under Peferences) when loading the iPod from the Mac.  We want to be sure that we can maintain a constant sound level.  Used with Bose sound dock. OS 10.6.8 iTunes 10.6.1.

Using an iPod Classic on a Bose sound dock....when loading the iPod from the Mac, what  "Import Settings" (under iTune "Preferences"),  should be used to maintain a constant sound level when playing music?  Mac OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.1.
There are many Import Settings available and it is somewhat confusing.  Any suggestions?

  • Is there a cable that works to hook up iPad  to an older Bose sound dock without audio jack?

I want to be able to watch videos on my iPad while hooked up to my Bose sound dock, and from what I've read on various forums it seems that simply buying an extension cable is not the answer, unless the cable has all of the correct pins wired end-to-end.  And I'm trying to find a store or site in Canada where I can get one.
Thanks for your help on this!

I'm not aware of one. it doesn't appear Bose has jumped on making products specifically for the iPad at this point.
