Nano sync question

I have an 8G nano that holds approx 2000 songs. Currently my itunes library is close to 3000 songs. It won't allow me to sync the entire library on to the nano. However I'm tired of manually having to select each song. Is there a way to delete the songs from the nano each time I sync & then let itunes choose 8G worth of new songs. I'm currently (finally!) adding all my cd's to my library & when I finish I will have close to 15,000 songs & would rather have itunes do this than me do it myself. The only way I have found that works is to "reset" the nano. If this is the only way, then is it safe to keep resetting it?

Hello Miguel,
I would check out the Autofill option described in this Apple support document.

And yes you can keep doing it the same way you do now, but I can't say whether or not it hurts your iPod any by doing it so often.

  • 3 Gen Nano Sync Question

I have a 3rd gen Nano (and two shuffles). Why when I attach the Shuffles will ITunes just fill it then to capacity (my library is much bigger than any of my IPods) but you can't do the same with the Nano unless ITunes makes a playlist?
Seems if it works with one type of Ipod it should work with all.
    Thanks

I'm not sure if you are asking a question here. To state the obvious, as you've observed the Nano and the shuffle work in completely different ways. If you want to send feedback to Apple suggesting a similar setting for the Nano you can send it directly to Apple at this link: Apple Product Feedback

  • 5th gen nano sync question

My old desktop 4G will no longer turn on - hard drive fan runs loud & screen stays grey w/ unending time wheel. So now I can no longer access my itunes library & sync my 5G nano. Is there a way to sync my nano to a macbook pro I am now using - w/ out losing the music & playlists that are on the nano? If not - how can I download the playlists on my nano to another source, then if I have to reset the nano, I can go back and add the playlists from "said other source."

I have excatly the same problem with my wife's ipod nano (5th gen) and windows 8. Itunes crashes as soon as I want to add new content. However, with my iphone the sync works
Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • ITunes Match and iPod Nano Syncing Question

I recently subscribed to iTunes Match.  My son and husband still have iPod Nanos.  How do you sync the nano with the iTunes match?

I subscribed to Match because the USB ports in the laptop where my iTunes playlists resides are toast - do not work.  I could not sync my iPod to it.  So I thought if I subscribed to Match, I would be able to access my playlists with my other laptop.  I have iTunes installed on my other laptop and the USB ports work!  I also authorized my other laptop for the account.
So I thought "great - I'll access my original playlists with my second laptop and connect my iPod Nano and sync it to the second laptop and it will load my playlists on my Nano".
Nope - I get nothing.  I have it set up to sync automatically - didn't work.  I tried to sync manually - it acts like it's syncing, tells me it's done and there is nothing on my Nano.  Help?!

  • 3RD GENERATION IPOD NANO SYNCING QUESTION.

I have a 3rd. gerneration I Pod but for some reason it will not sync. my library on I Tunes to the I Pod. I have tried restore but it will only sync. 1 album.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hello Filbertfox,
    Are you getting any errors?
Have you verified that Sync Music > All Music is checked? Or have you tried syncing a different, single album?
Have you recently made any changes to your PC? New security software, Microsoft's updates, new hardware, etc?
Are you using the Apple branded USB cable or a 3rd party cable?

  • FCP Sound Syncing Question

    Hey Everyone,
I have an audio syncing question for you. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am cutting in FCP. I logged and captured my footage and with timecode breaks, etc. the tape was cut up, and I was left with eight files, let's call them Footage1-Footage8. I have completed my cut of the piece using the in-camera audio that was linked to the video on the DV tape that I imported. Our sound guy in the field used a DAT recorder to record the production audio and apparently captured the timecode to the audio files, so that it matches the video (i.e. the DAT recorder and our cameras - DVX-100s had synced timecode during the shoot). The DVD he gave me has 20 audio files as .wav, let's call them Audio1-Audio20. My question is, now that I have finished my cut, I would like to replace the current audio tracks with the production audio. How can I sync the audio with the video and replace it in what I've cut. Or perhaps I can't, in which case - how can I sync them up and THEN cut, but I'd really rather have to not do that, lol!
    Thanks for your advice!

Sorry about the long winded post, though.
I guess my real question, summarized is - is there a way to sync separately recorded production audio (that has timecode) with the footage that I shot (that has the same timecode as the audio, but also has in camera audio that accompanies the video track - I would imagine I can just "cut" the extra audio tracks, however).
I'm at my bay trying to figure this out, and I've got nothing, and the people I work for don't want to spring for that bwf2xml program you were talking about What's the emote for pulling one's hair out?

  • IPhone and Nano syncing...

I currently have my iPhone synced to my laptop, and my nano synced to another laptop.
I am now wishing to get rid of the iphone and the old laptop, and wondering if I will be able to easily sync my nano to my new laptop with little bother?
If I remember correctly, I can put the music on my nano onto the current laptop or vice versa - is this correct?
When I synced my iPhone with this laptop, I'm sure I saw something about it being my 4th authorised computer - will that have implications for my nano or the person why buys my iPhone?
Many thanks in advance for any helpful answers!

    Hello Lou1985,
If I remember correctly, I can put the music on my nano onto the current laptop or vice versa - is this correct?
Yes, you can copy the music from your iPod to your computer
When I synced my iPhone with this laptop, I'm sure I saw something about it being my 4th authorized computer - will that have implications for my nano or the person why buys my iPhone?
No. This is referring to the number of computers you have authorized to play your iTunes content. The limit is 5. All you will have to do with the Nano is copy the music currently on it to your computer and then restore it, so you can sync all the old back to it plus any new content.
And as long as you restore the iPhone, whoever purchases it from you should have no problems.
    Hope this helps.

  • 7th gen nano syncs only certain songs, not my full library.  Ipad and old nano sync fine.  How do I get 500 songs v. 63?

7th gen nano syncs only certain songs, not my full library.  Ipad and old nano sync fine.  How do I get 500 songs v. 63?

**1. Separate these out first without deleting anything from i tunes libary?**
    iTunes:
Set up 2 iTunes playlist, one for songs & the other for talking books.
**2. Then simply transfer my 500 odd tracks of music to my new nano?**
Connect new iPod to computer & set it to manually sync.
Move your music playlist to Devices. Music will sync to your new iPod.
*3. Once all this done, delete songs (only) from the old nano just leaving my talking books?
    Connect old nano to computer.
Under Devices-Music: Start deleting all the songs including any song headings you have in the left column under Music. This will delete from the iPod yet leave your iTunes library intact.
Read the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide for other suggestions.

  • Need help installing new itunes version on older mac for nano syncing

I purchased a new nano and new music, but can't get the nano sync because desktop mac is requesting me to upgrade the iTunes version.
When I do, it says "This update requires OS X version 10.7.5 or later." How does this get done?

Which exact model computer?  To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/6th_generation/getstarted/
Basically you're stuck unless you can upgrade OS.  There's no other way to transfer music to the device.

I have an ipod nano synced to an old laptop.  Recently upgraded to a new laptop and want to sync the ipod nano to the new laptop.  How do I change the sync to the new laptop?

If you have access to your old laptop (and it's still working), ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC.  If you can and want to do it that way, please post back.
Otherwise, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.

  • Ipod Nano: Sync won't complete

I've been trying to sync an Ipod nano with Itunes. The clip in question is "Jack Jack Attack". It synced fine on one of my kid's Ipod's, but it gets stuck on the other kid's Ipod. It gets about two thirds of they way through the sync and then just stays there. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem with registration that other people in this discussion section mentioned. The problem only occurred with the Ipod that is having sync problems. Eventually the registration did work, but I don't know if it is a symptom of some other problem.

It's not Jack-Jack Attach that's the problem. The sync is hanging up on the last clip in any sync. Somehow Itunes can't complete its mission.

  • 4 Nano Connection Questions

I have an old 20GB iPod w/dock connector (the one with the 4 buttons above the click wheel). The dock came with both a USB 2.0 cable and a firewire cable. I've been using the firewire cable, although I think I can find the USB cable that came with it.
I just got a new 3rd gen Nano. I haven't opened the box yet (it's a gift), but I understand that it comes with a USB 2.0 cable.
    Questions:
    1. Will the Nano fit in the old dock?
    2. Can the Nano connect using firewire rather than USB, and if so, will it charge (the old iPod charges OK through the firewire connection)?
    3. If a firewire connection will work, but the Nano won't fit in the dock, will the old firewire cable connect to the Nano?
    4. The Nano specs say "USB 2.0". Other than slower transfer speed, will Nano work with a USB 1.0 port or is a USB 2.0 port required?

I think I've found the answer to one of my questions.
The firewire-to-dock cable will work to charge Nano, but not for sync. That suggests that the firewall cable will connect directly to Nano, and probably also that the Nano will fit in the dock, but that can be easily determined once I unpack Nano.

  • IPod Nano Sync with Mac, but iPod formatted for Windows

I finally changed to the Mac platform and all my iPods and iPhones were synced with a Windows based computer. While my iPhones were not a problem, my iPod Nano (4GB 2nd generation) seemed not be recognized by my iMac.
I can't seem to get my iMac to show the iPod under Devices to reformat it. Anyone have any advice to give?
I have plugged it in to a my Windows based work laptop and it seems to work fine. However I don't sync with that machine and I have already sold my old Windows based computer it was synced to.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have three iPods: 40GB iPod photo, 2GB black iPod nano and 1GB iPod shuffle. Each one has it's own playlist to auto sync songs from (technically, the 40GB iPod is synchronized manually, but the other two have playlists to sync automatically from). They each have different names so iTunes knows they're each different. So, you shouldn't have any trouble keeping just two iPods separate with your Mac mini or iMac.

  • IPod Nano sync snag - "cannot be updated, required folder cannot be found"

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Nano (2nd Gen) I get the error message "the iPod cannot be updated. The required folder cannot be found". Have had this problem since I bought it!
Am running latest s/w versions (reloaded iTunes v. 7.1.1.5 twice, and iPod is running s/w v. 1.1.2).
iTunes on my computer (running Windows XP Pro) play fine from the desktop. VERY frustrating!!!

I've emptied both appliances and still get that message when I try to sync. Even something as small as a single song.
