Hi
You could try uninstalling your anti virus software if you have a copy of it on cd rom
then try your update this will prove if it is the anti virus software causing your problem.
good luck

  • 4GB iPod nano will NOT update or restore

I have iTunes 7.0.1 and a 4GB iPod nano (2nd Gen) on Windows XP SP2.
When I plug it into my computer, it appears as a removable disk (even though "Enable Disk use" is unchecked). When I load iTunes, it does not recognise it.
If I then quit iTunes, eject the disk through Windows Explorer and stop the iPod service (via My Computer > Manage > Services & Applications > Services or via Task Manager), then reload iTunes, the iPod service starts again and my iPod appears in iTunes. Great.
However, if I then go to update the iPod with the new 1.0.2 software, once it starts to update, something ejects the iPod and the progress bar in iTunes just sits there. The iPod has been ejected and will never update. I cannot restore it as it does exactly the same thing.
I've just paid good, hard cash for this iPod nano and I can't use it?! Why oh why did Apple put the iPod updater software INSIDE iTunes??? That's a recipe for disaster, as can be seen by the multitude of posts on this topic in these forums and elsewhere on the net.
Before you ask, yes I have tried all the USB ports, yes I have tried other computers, yes I have stopped all anti-virus software, yes blah blah blah. I keep getting error 1415.
I'm really narked off with Apple about this. If they cannot provide a working solution, then it's going back to the store and I'll get a Zune... (that's a joke by the way...)

    SOLUTION
    SOLUTION
I had the exact same problems before, iTunes doesn’t recognize iPod after connecting it, I had to use the restart iPod Service method to get it working.
I tried this on my second computer and it worked perfectly, iTunes recognizes iPod every time I plug it in.
I compared the process/services opened in both computers, and I turned on some services which were previously on disable(excluding iPod Service). Unfortunately I forgot which services it was, so I took some screenshots and compare these with your services.
After modifying the services, I tried plug and unplug the iPod several times without closing iTunes, iPod was instantly recognized by iTunes every time!
I attached the links to screenshots of my automatic services and manual services, ignore the service if its not on your list!
For those don’t know how to open Services, Start -> Run -> “services.msc”

-If anyone know the specific services required to be turned on, please reply in this thread.
-I am using the 2nd Gen Nano 2GB version with latest iTunes.

  • CS4 crashing problems - will the update help

    hi
I upgraded to CS4 early this year, but have long since given up on it, since every time I use CS4, either on my (Toshiba Qosmio) laptop or on my (Dell 690) Desktop PC, it crashes with ridiculous regularity (I think around 20 mins is I think the longest continuous period of work without a crash).  I wrote off thousands of pounds in lost editing time with my first CS4 project because of the constant crashes. I continue, however, to use CS3 quite happily.
Premiere is the worst offender but AEX and Encore also crash a lot.
It seems that I am worse affected than most but as it happens for different reasons every time, and on two completely different PCs, both of which run CS3 quite happily, I had pretty much given up hope of ever being able to use CS4.
But what about these latest updates? Might they help?
And another thought - would CS4 run smoother on my PCs if CS3 were removed? Obviously I am not prepared to risk that at the moment but if there is precedent for that problem I could try it on my laptop.
    thks

CS3 and CS4 can happily coexist on the same machine. Problems only arise when CS3 is removed. That requires a new installation of CS4.
However, the constant crashing with CS4 is abnormal. The fact that it happens on two completely different machines seems to indicate that it is not hardware, but software on both machines that causes these crashes. If you want to figure is out, the first step is to supply all data as requested in the link here and all included links: Some suggestions
Be sure to answer all questions at the end of the Wiki article and to attach the screenshots and files requested in the second link.

  • Will BIOS update help wtih sound problem?

I have a problem getting sound working with linux on a 3000 (an N200 0769 in my case) that many other people have reported: sound only works with ACPI off.
I asked for help on the Mandriva forums and was told to check if there are any relevant BIOS updates. the readme for the latest BIOS does not list any changes to do with either sound or ACPI so it appears unlikely.
However, my BIOS reports itself (during bootup) as 2.03, and it appears to be 68ET31WW. This does not appear in the summary of changes in the readme which jumps from 1.02 to 2.02!
Does anyone know what has changed between 2.03/68ET31WW and the latest (3.03/68ET35WW)?

It hasn't helped my CMX 3200C2.. same issues as you describe.. no joy at anything other than slow...

  • My Ipod mini will not update, help?

I just downloaded iTunes 7, and now when I plug in my ipod, iTunes doesn't come up. Even if I open iTunes, I doesn't "sense" my iPod. I doesn't show up on the list and the "Sync iPod" option under the "File" drop down menu is all greyed out. I also tried using the iPod updater program and it said "Invalid iPod service version". I'd really appreciate some help.

  • Nano will not update to 1.1.1

The Nano is working fine, no problems whatsoever. However, ever since the 1.1.1 update became available, I have been getting a notice each time the Nano is plugged in telling me to update.
However, whenever I try, I only get as far as the User Agreement and after indicating my agreement, the routine ends with an error message: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software ... You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
In small print, it tells me to check my network connections but they are fine (witness this online post). There is a suggestion that I try later, but that doesn't seem to be the issue, since I have "tried later" several times now.
I have rebooted the computer, rebooted the Nano, etc. I cannot restore because I get the same error message. I thought that perhaps my registration was wonky with the central server, but I have even gone back in an re-registered the product. Would appreciate any ideas.

I'm on XP and have the same 1417 error. In addition, my ipod is ejecting when I select "update" or "restore" (I have disk use enabled so I normally have to manually eject after syncing). The next time I reconnect my nano to the computer, XP recognizes it, but not iTunes. If I remove and reconnect again, I'm back to square one.

  • Nanos won't update or restore

Hello all, I'm new to the forums and fairly new to apple products. I have never really been a big fan of apple just because, and itunes and the nano are now giving me a good reason. I have several gripes about overall itunes functionality, but thats for another section of the forums. My big issue is that my nano will neither update or restore, and I get the message "Could not update ipod 'Ben's Ipod', an unknown error occured (1417)" or "Could not restore ipod 'Ben's ipod', an unknown error occured (1418)". During the attempted "update", the ipod looks like it just goes into the charging mode and has no indication that there is a data connection with the computer. I have come to believe that it is itunes, as i have tried with several nanos (both of my younger brothers have them) and also a shuffle (one of my friends has one) with the same results. I have a very clean install of windows, and the virus protection is disabled. I have tried restarting services and all the other usb ports to no avail. Can any of you help me? I'm just baffled.

    hmmmmmm.
it might be worth quickly checking on the issue from this document:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod
(my diffidence here is because it's a fairly new issue, and i don't have a good feel for the "symptom sets" associated with it ... still, it does no harm to check.)

The 30-pin connector on the iPhone 4 dock might not have all the connector pins to do video.
I'm 99% sure the Universal Dock does have the pins (and therefor supports video out).
