Nano won't connect to any computer with any USB cable

Doesn't matter which computer or USB cable I try, I get the same message 2 seconds after I connect it to a PC. I get the following message after connecting:
USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Wondows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.
But the only solution is says to do is disconnect it and retry again! Where the same thing happens over and over again. Help, please.

"Note: On recent iPod models, when the battery is completely empty, your computer may not recognize your iPod for up to 30 minutes even though it's connected and charging." (Taken from THIS article) so that may (or may not) be the situation with yours. I know you said that it's not charging at all but it may take awhile for it to actually start charging since it was completely drained.
Also, this link: iPod's battery doesn't charge may help.

You have to remove all cables before connecting to your computer with micro usb. Power is only connected when using a 3rd gen device and done after the initial connection.

  • My Ipod Touch when I try to connect to ANY computer with ANY USB cable I get "USB Not Recognized" Other Ipod devices work with ALL computers and ALL USB cables PLEASE HELP!!!

I am using an IPod Touch 3. I get the error message USB Not Recognized. Now I have tried three different USB Cables and three different computers...... Same error message. My daughters IPod Touch 4 works perfectly with all of those USB Cables and computers, so this is not a USB problem or a computer problem. It must be something with my IPod Touch 3. Every article I go to wants me to look at stuff on the computer but how could that make sense if other IPod Devices work fine? Please. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You need to provide more information about your network. What frequency does it use (2.4ghz or 5.0ghz), which wireless protocol (a, b, g, b/g compatibility, n), and what security are you using (WEP, WPA2, etc.)?
Please also provide more information about your iPod Touch. Which model is it, and which version of the iOS are you running on it?

  • When I plug my iPhone in to my computer with the usb cable that came with the phone the screen says, "Charging is not supported with this device".  How can I fix this?

When I use the same cable with the wall adapter it charges just fine.

LOL     My situation is the opposite.  plug my iPhone 3GS with USB cable and attach to mini adaptor (or whatever the small one is called) and it does not charge. Connect the same iPhone 3GS to my MacBook, using same cable, an charging takes place for iPhone.  Then,  connected the iPhone to the AC power with the large Apple AC  adaptor and it always charges. Seems to be the small adaptor and sometimes a third party automobile adapter.
At first I thought this might be because I was using third party USB cable, but now wonder about that since there are so many problems that others are having.
Having scoured the discussions, it appears no definitive answer has been given.  Am I wrong. Maybe I never found the answer to what is happening here.
if you can help, please reply to help all of us with the issue still - June 2011.
    Thanks!

  • Brand New 80GB Ipod connects on and off with my usb cable

hi, i just got a new 80gb ipod for xmas, and when i plug the usb cable to my ipod, it connects sometimes, and sometimes doesnt, and when it does, it disconnects sometimes too, i usually have to keep moving into different usb ports and one will work, then not work again, then work again later. i even tried my friends cable and its the same thing, i think somethings wrong with the port in the ipod, can anyone help ?

Turn it off.  If it got wet somehow, you may try drying your ipod off.  The slow method would be a sunny window sill.  You could use a hair dryer on LOW, pointing it at the contacts.  When it drys out, charge itand try a hard-reset. If it still doesn't function properly....  ?

  • My I Pod touch will not charge on any computer, with any cable or in any wall outlet.  No sleep mode....nothing.  I can not get it to power on at all now

I have tried multiple cables, multiple computers and it appears to be dead.  When I went to the Apple Store they tried to sell me a new one.....not what I wanted.  I asked about a new battery but was told no.  How do I retrieve the data on my I Pod???  Cannot even look into resetting it because it will not power on at all.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod won't connect to the computer at all.

My 3rd Generation iPod nano won't connect to the computer at all. Therefore it has no battery for me too be able to reset or try to do anything with it.
I've only been advised to make sure that i have the most recent version of iTunes?
    Could anyone help please?
    Thanks, Hollie.

    Try uninstalling the drivers,
    Plug in your iPod
Right click on My Computer and click on Manage
that will bring you to the Computer Management
On the left hand side click on device manager
on the right side click on the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
it will show a list, in that list locate iPod or USB mass storage device
    right click and select uninstall
Unplug your iPod and plug it back in
Windows should automatically start installing them again
if nothing pops up then right click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers
and choose scan for hardware changes
    If that doesn't work
    Go back into Computer Management
Click on Disk Management on the right
and on the left it should say your iPod
Right click and go into change drive letter and paths
    click on the change button
Change it to something like N or M
Click ok, you will get a message saying "changing the drive letter may cause the program to no longer run are you sure you want to change this drive letter"
    click ok
    then restart your computer

  • Ipod shuffle second generation won't connect to my computer

I'm operating on Window 8.1 and my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen won't connect to my computer. My USB port and cord are working because it does make the connection noise when I plug it in but it does not show up in My Comptuer or in My Devices on iTunes. This is the second iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen I've had this issue with.

If you have not already, as a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hub).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If it's a laptop, connect its power adapter so that it's not running on battery power.  If the shuffle's power switch is ON, put it in the OFF position.  Power up the computer, run iTunes, and connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer, by itself.  This is a test for possible interference between connected USB devices.  Any difference?
If that does not help (or you already tried), does your computer have USB 3.0 ports (instead of 2.0).  If so, and if you happen to have an older USB 2.0 hub that is powered (has its own power supply), try connecting the hub to your computer and your shuffle to the hub.

  • IPod won't connect to iTunes/Computer

Soo I plug my iPod into the cord which is plugged into the computer, the computer makes the little beep that lets me know its detected a device and... Nothing. It doesn't show up in iTunes. It doesn't show the little charging symbol on the iPod. Nothing.
I've tried two different cords and three different USB ports. The annoying thing is it worked two days ago, and had been working prior to that for several months. Nothing has happened to the iPod or computer that would cause damage. They've both literally been sitting in this room for two days. I can plug my iPod into the wall charger and it will charge just fine. It can connect to the internet, etc. But it won't connect itself to iTunes via the USB cable... and I'm unsure of what to do next. I've googled around and checked the forums but I haven't found anything that works.
    Assistance :3
Also, I can't download iOS 6.1.2, it just fails everytime after the verification process. I've never failed verification before so I'm not sure if this is a widespread issue or just me... The error I guess you would call it says "Software Update is not available at this time. Try again later."

  • No longer able to connect to any computer with iPhone 4s

I have a iPhone 4s. I connected it to my Macbook Air today and instead of changing the battery icon to green and appearing in iphoto, nothing happens. Same for iTunes. When I plug the phone into my charger, the charger works. So its not the USB connection.
I tried it in a PC and in my Mac Pro. Same deal. Prior to today all of these computers saw my iphone and I was able to download photos, update music etc.
Now, none of them seem to connect and they don't appear in any programs.
I restarted the iphone three times and the computers, but nothing has been helped. At least I can charge the phone, but I really want to get the photos off it as the icloud sync is iffy. Plus its a lot easier when the computer connects to the phone. Why has this suddenly broken?
    I have the current iOS7.1.1
    Help?

Thanks for the feedback. I really really think it is something weird within the phone because:
    1. I have 3 computers which all have synced in the past and now suddenly they all do not work
    2. the usb cable charges the phone when plugged into the charger, but no computers connected to the iphone with the same cable are recognised
    3. I tried another iphone cable and get the exact same results
I did update itunes but it did not help
I tried the AMD settings but it did not help
I even put the phone into "plug me into itunes" mode and even that did not work, on a newer macbook air, with the latest itunes. I restarted the phone and it is back to the way it was, eg not connecting, but otherwise seems ok.
So, I'm still stuck. If it comes to it, I will zap the entire unit and let icloud reload it, but that is a rather extreme measure.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen won't connect to my computer, charge or connect to iTunes.

Okay, here is the issue. My computer runs Windows Vista. Ever since I have updated iTunes to 11.0.2, my iPod touch hasn't been able to connect to the computer at all. I don't know if there is any correlation between the update and my issue, but I need someone to be the judge of that. Apple has suggested that you uninstall iTunes, QuickTime, etc. restart the computer and then reinstall them. So I have done that multiple times, and my iPod still won't connect to the computer. My sister's iPod touch, 4th gen just like mine won't connect to iTunes or the computer either. I have spent a lot of time looking up possible solutions, but none of them work at all. I've done everything Apple suggests in troubleshooting and such, but nothing works. I was hoping someone else might be able to give me a solution. One that hopefully does not involve uninstalling and reinstalling Apples programs, which I have done several times.
I have tried all accessable USB ports on my computer, and I have switched between the four different USB cords that we have, so this isn't the issue. My PS Vita will connect to the computer with no issue at all, so it isn't the USB ports either. I can plug my iPod Touch into my PS3 and it will charge the instant I plug either end of the cable in, the same for my sister's. I can plug it into the dock on my mother's alarm clock and it will charge just fine. I'm open to any suggestion, so please help me out here.
    -Jay

    So you tried everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
Try connecting to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
