Nano won't go to another song automatically

My Nano just started not advancing to the next song and it doesn't matter if I am doing a shuffle or an ablum or by an artist. There are two symbols on the upper right of the screen that has appeared (obviously related to my problem).

Okay, what are the two symbols?

  • Help! ipod nano won't hold as many songs as it says it can

I have an ipod nano that is 2GB and can hold up to 500 songs. I only have 113 songs on it and when i try to put more on it it says that there is not enough room to put more songs on it. How do i make it able to hold more songs????

Bear in mind that the song limit advertised is based on 4 minute per song, 1MB per minute, encoded as 128 kbps in AAC format.
Check the encoding of your songs. To do this, right click one the sorting columns in iTunes tick bit rate, then click this new column to sort the songs by bit rate. Any songs that are encoded at higher than 128 kbps will be causing excess space to be used for storage. To change the bit rate of these songs you can convert them to AAC format (sound quality will be lost). Or you can reimport them from CD/Computer once you have changed the import settings as detailled below, but that could be time consuming.
To convert go to the edit menu, select preferences, click the advanced tab, and select importing. For best song capacity on the iPod, make sure that the encoder is set to "Import using AAC encoder", and "High quality 128 kbps". Hit OK. Then collect together all the high encoded songs and select them all (click the top one and hold shift, then click the bottom one). Right click the highlighted area and go to "Convert selection to AAC". This could take a while if there are many songs.
Once complete, go to the Edit menu, and select "Show duplicate songs". Delete all the "old" songs, recognisable by their bitrate, format or size. Again, to show these, right click a sorting column, and tick the respective ones.
Once this is done, update the iPod.
If your songs are all changed into 128kbps AAC and are mostly all around 4 mins long, then you should get very close to the song limit advertised

  • IPad Nano Won't automatically Advance to next song in *specific* Playlist, shuffle is enabled

I have a 4th generation iPod Nano that was working properly up until last week, and now it's not working for no apparent reason.
There is a playlist I use to work out with, and all of a sudden it stopped automatically advancing to the next/ another song when the first song in the playlist is over. It just stops all together and goes back to the main playlist screen.
Shuffle has been enabled in both the settings and within the playlist but nothing has changed:(
It's working properly with all other playlists. Super weird. I just reset my ipod and I have the latest version of iTunes and Ipod software. Nothing.
    Any suggestions??

Have you tried removing and resyncing this playlist to your iPod via iTunes?  Are the songs on this playlist in any other playlist on your device?
Do the songs otherwise play normally on your device?

I downloaded the latest version of itunes and now my ipod nano won't sync.  The sync process appears to lock up on the 2nd song and will not continue to sync. I let it run all night the first time and it never went past the 2nd song.  I unchecked the 2nd song so a different song would be 2nd, no benefit; reset my ipod nano; shut down laptop and restarted a different time; shorted the number of songs to sync; all without benefit.

When you connect your ipod up to the computer. It should show the device, usually with the name of the device, in my case 'jordan's ipod'. This should be on the row which shows 'songs', 'albums' e.t.c on the far right. There when you click on it it should go to a different screen showing a picture of your ipod along with two buttons - Update and Restore. Click update and it should take a 2 mins while your ipod is updated to the latest version of Ios.
After updating te ipod see if there is a change in results.
PS: make sure the device is active while syncing so keep tapping the screen.
Sorry for any incorrect info, i have an ipod touch, but i've had experience with an ipod

  • Ipod Nano won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages...

My first generation Nano was initially sent back to Apple due to the battery losing it's charge to quickly. They sent me back what appears to be a replacement Nano and now this one won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages of bands, shared from friends (unprotected mp3 files) or otherwise downloaded from the internet.
Whats unusual is that any songs imported from a CD to the Nano play fine as do any songs purchased from iTunes. I know Apple has stated that any files the user wishes to play on their iPods will play as long as the format is compatible. (All of these songs in question played on the original Nano and the problems started when they said they fixed it and sent it back (although it is missing the engraving which to me indicates they gave me a refurbished Nano). My Applecare runs out in mid-October so I need to figure out what is wrong. I sent it back a second time and they told me they couldn't recreate the problem so they just updated the software and sent it back.
Someone suggested that some iPods have a part of the firmware activated (which Apple may have been testing) that prevents any non-ITunes store music or music no t off an original CD to fail to play.
When attempting to play downloaded songs from sites like Purevolume and MySpace the iPod plays for a few seconds then shuts down and restarts itself, all of these songs worked fine before Apple took it in for service.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. It`s so annoying.
I did a little bit research on this discussion board and this problem seems to be known for quite a long time. It`s confusing me Apple is not able to fix that prob or give customers quick introduction to resolve the prob.
I am currently on vacation in Florida and just bought the new iPod 30 Gig. I transfered already songs from my music cd. That worked fine.
I bought 2 music video files, synced them with no error to the iPod, but it only shows me a black screen when I want to start the video on the iPod itself. itunes plays the files with no problem.
Any ideas how to fix it??

  • NANO WON'T STORE ANYWHERE NEAR 500 SONGS

MY NANO SHOWS THAT IT HAS 171 SONGS ON IT, (691.3 MB). ON I-TUNES IT SHOWS THAT I HAVE USED 1.75 GB AND ONLY HAVE 72.3 MB LEFT FREE. WHERE DID ALL THE REST OF MY 2 GIG MEMORY GO. I ALSO DON'T HAVE ANY PHOTOS ON THE NANO AND HAVEN'T PUT ON ANY OTHER IFORMATION OR DATA ON THE NANO.

    Hi dannyj,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If it's full then the problem is with the conversion bit rate used when loading the CD into iTunes.
    Convert
iTunes gives you the ability to convert music files from one file format to another. You can also convert a file to the same format, but use different options. For example, you can convert some high-bitrate MP3 files to a lower bitrate to fit more of them on an MP3 CD. Note that music purchased from the iTunes Music Store can't be converted.
Search iTunes help for Convert to find instructions on how to change the bit rate to a lower setting.
Full instructions from Apple here iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions

  • Nano won't update new songs from library

When I first connected nano, my itunes copied all my songs to the ipod very well. But if I add new song to my library, connect ipod nano to my computer, it says updating, done. But the song isn't in my nano. Whats going on? PC user.

Have you tried Restoring iPod to factory settings with the Latest iPod Updater?

  • ITunes won't load all my songs onto my iPod Nano since update.

Ugh. Before the update I had no issues updating my iPod and now it won't update all my songs because it says my machine is not authorized to play them? What does this mean? Some of these songs I purchased on iTunes and other were songs I have from my Cds? And it also says I have 4 other machines operating on iTunes? I am not sure how this happened? I have restored my iPod and I am still getting the same message. This is so frustrating! This is why I dread updating. Please help!

  • Nano won't play songs anymore - cover flow shuffle shows no artwork

All of a sudden, my ipod nano 3g will no longer play songs via cover flow. The artwork is gone even though it is there in iTunes on my computer. If I click an album to play it, it briefly selects that album (with the missing artwork still) as if it is going to play it, but then it just goes back to the cover flow shuffle and never plays anything. I just had iTunes erase everything on it and resync, but that made no difference.
I tried playing songs through the play list instead of the cover flow and still it just acts like it is going to play the song and then gives up and returns to the previous menu. So basically, I cannot play any songs on this nano, which is only a few months old. Help!? Thanks!

Ok, I've fixed it. I read a few other posts about resetting it. I held the Select and Menu buttons down at the same time (this works better if you place the nano on a flat surface first) for several seconds. Then the Apple logo appears while the nano is being reset. After that, cover art work appears and more importantly the songs play. Whew. That was scary.

  • 1st Generation iPod nano won't sync

I've had my first generation iPod nano since April of 2006, and I've only had pretty minor problems with it.
Last year I hooked up my iPod to a new computer, and synced my music just fine. The next day when I tried to add new songs, it deleted my entire library. I restored the factory settings and bought new songs.
Last week I used my sister's external hard drive to put some of her music on my iPod, and it accepted them and kept working fine. A few days ago I tried to add more music from her xHD onto my iPod, and ended up with an error message like this:
"your iPod is corrupted and needs to be either restored to factory settings, or disconnected and reconnected."
I removed and re-connected my iPod, and it deleted all the songs I had acquired off of the xHD. Now when I try to add music it says, "Attempting to copy to the disk has failed. Unknown error occurred (-69).
How can I add more music to my iPod? I really don't want to reset my iPod just because it has so much valuable music and it's already cost me so much to acquire this much. It's only synced with one computer, and unfortunately my computer doesn't have a CD burner.
    PLEASE HELP!

Is your sisters xHD connected to your PC permanently? I suspect not, and I also suspect that your iTunes install isn't set to copy the files over when you add new music to iTunes.
You need to go into your iTunes settings and tell it to keep your music library organized ( it will copy all the music to your default directory) and to copy music when adding to your library.
Otherwise it just makes a pointer to where the music is when you add it, and if that is an external hard drive it won't be able to sync when that drive isn't connected.
You don't need to burn to back-up your music - resetting your Nano won't delete the music from your hard drive. But, you should copy it to either an xHD or another location on your HD as a temporary measure.

  • Ipod Nano won't transmit to FM

I've tried two different FM transmitters I had fro my Mini, a Belkin and a Newertech and both will not transmit the Nano songs to my radio. I get dead air, which means the signal is there but no music. Has anyone had any problems like this? Are there any transmitters that work with the Nano?

The heaphone sockets on the iPods generally have been far from just headphone sockets, Chris. They have included components designed to allow their "by-directional" use for microphones etc as well (Sorry, I didn't have a Mark 1 so I'm not sure how much this applied to them as well) .
It doesn't surprise me that a transmitter designed for one model won't work with another, accordingly.
That said, it would seem odd if you couldn't use one of the "generic", device independent ones sold for minidisk players and the like, that simply use a regular 3.5 mm (1/8th ") headphone jack . I'd be checking the plug on any device you were trying to use and making sure that it is the same as the plug on your headphones (same length, same number of "rings" etc). If it is, it should work.
If the transmitter relies on the remote connection in any way, or has extra segments or a longer prong, it probably won't. Transmitters that rely on the dock connector would also have a fair chance of working, I would think (or, at least, I would have thought before reading Jim's second post!)
[Edit, just found an interesting piece on accessory compatability at http://playlistmag.com/reviews/2005/09/ipodnanoaccessories/index.php )

  • My Radio on my Nano won't pick up a signal.. I cennected my headphones and am in the middle of the city. Also my iPod keeps pausing every like 30 seconds.. What do I do?

My Radio on my Nano won't pick up a signal.. I cennected my headphones and am in the middle of the city, so there are plenty of stations to find. Also my iPod keeps pausing every like 30 seconds when I try to listen to my music. I just got it for Christmas and already loaded it with songs.. What do I do?

Push the headphone jack all the way in, you don't have it fully plugged in yet.

  • A song I purchased on iTunes is no longer playing on my iPhone 5 and skips straight to another song when I try to play it

I purchased a song on iTunes a few weeks ago, and have been playing it regularly on rotation on the iPod of my iPhone 5s.  Today, I went to play the song and it shows the album artwork, song title etc and I pressed the play button and it immediately skipped to another song and wouldn't play.  It won't play the song on my Mac either, when I try to.  I've just updated to iOS 7.1 on the phone, then backed up and synced to the Mac, then deleted all the music and re-installed music back to my iPhone but the song still won't play.  It also won't play on my Mac now (skips to the next song in the Library).  It's weird that I could purchase it, and play it for a few weeks and now, mysteriously, it's not playing.  I don't know what else I can do, as I've updated, re-synced, and re-booted and done everything I think I should have done.
    Help?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from the Music app on your iPod and redownload it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app (or the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes)
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads with the same problem then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support (we are fellow users here on these forums) : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Ipod Nano won't start - folder w/exclamation point error message!

My Ipod Nano won't start! I got it about a year ago and whenever I try to turn it on, a folder with an exclamation point and the words, "www.apple.com/support/ipod" come up. I've tried to get it to work but it's not. I even tried looking in the help sections on apple.com and everything I found didn't help. My Ipod isn't frozen, I just can't get it to the menu screen. I really don't want ot have to reset my Ipod and have all my previous songs and pictures erased because I can't get them back. Does anybody have a possible solution to this problem? Please help.
