Nano worked with USB 1.1, but 2.0 is a no go

Ok, pretty much got nano to work out of the box on my old Compaq PC, but I tired of the *your connection could be faster, get a USB 2.0 you cheap ******** message.
So i purchased the inland u-connect PCI to USB 2.0 2-port card.
I installed the drivers and windows does see the drive, names it F.
But iTunes never sees it. I can physically switch the Ipod from my USB 2.0 port back to my 1.1 port and ding it appears, disappears whne I switch iot back to the new USB 2.0.
I have tried everything mentioned in the forums I could dig up, everything.
It is as though itunes/ipod has the USB 1.1 preset as its only path choice or something, not sure.
yes, did massive uninstalls, reinstalls, wipes, on and on.
I hoped naming the specific hardware and situation, I may be able to get some direct feedback. ANY thoughts appreciated.

  • IPod nano works with USB 1.1 but not USB 2.0

Anyone using an iPod nano that works with USB 1.1 but not with USB 2.0? I am using Windows XP and when installing the iPod software from CD it recognizes the iPod and am able to transfer songs using iTunes but when installing SP1 or SP2 to enable USB 2.0 transfers, Windows XP only recognizes the iPod nano as a USB Mass Storage Device. This is the same with iPod Updater.

I have a similar problem with the following configuration:
    - Dell Dimension 4100 Desktop with 2 integrated USB 1.1 ports, Windows 2000 SP 4
    - PCI 6-Ports USB 2.0 Card ("Mentor" resp. www.bona.com.tw), Model USB20-PCI/6P
    What works well?
    - All my USB add-ons (1.1 and 2.0) on the internal 1.1 ports as well as on the USB2.0 PCI card
    - iPod Nano 4GB on internal 1.1 ports (external drive in windows 2000 as well as iPod in iTunes)
    - iPod Nano works as well as on the USB 2.0 card ONLY WHEN my old 4-port USB1.1 hub is connected between Nano and USB card
    What doesn't works?
My iPod Nano directly connected to the USB 2.0 card. Symptoms when connecting:
    - Windows is very slow, process "scvhost.exe" or "system.exe" using 99% of CPU for some minutes
    - iPod is recognised as external drive, but when I click on it, it is empty and copying files to it results in "I/O error"
    - iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod (of course, if even windows itself cannot read from it...)
I removed all USB drivers, reinstalled iTunes, iPod (by the way, I still don't understand what "iPod update" is good for, except for updating the iPod's firmware), deactivate the internal USB1.1 ports, no result.
    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IPod works with USB 1.0 but not 2.0?

I'm trying to get my cousins iPod Shuffle working for her but I'm not having much luck...
When I plug it in to any port on the computer, I get "USB Device Not Recognized" and it shows up as an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
However, if I disable "Intel(R) 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD" in Device Manager it immediately detects the device and it'll work with iTunes.
What do I need to do to get this to work with USB 2.0? What could be causing the problem? Thanks!

No, the fact that they haven't needed to update the drivers means they work perfectly well.
If they work perfectly well, how come they cannot pick up the iPod (which has nothing to do with iTunes)?
Also, how do you know they haven't needed to?
More likely they simply haven't even looked at them to see if they need updating.
Oh, and from the first post...
"However, if I disable "Intel(R) 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD" in Device Manager it immediately detects the device and it'll work with iTunes."
    But enough of this.
    Good luck with your problem.
    Hope you get it fixed.

  • 4s Hotspot tethering only works with USB and BT but not with wifi

    Hi,
XP sp3 - iPhone 4s with ios 5.0.1 - on Three one plan
Tethering with wifi works to a friends Samsung phone, wifi on the pc confirmed working with the apple store wifi, tethering with USB and BT works with good connection speeds on my laptop but when i try to tether with wifi it connects to the laptop at 54mbps and all appears well, even claims to have received a small amount of data packets, but no data comes to any browser. The iPhone reports 1 connection to the hotspot and stays connected with a non-pulsing blue bar after the first minute.
In the PC i have tried this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-the-order-of-network-protocol -bindings
I've deleted my firewall (zone alarm) completely and turned off windows firewall to go naked surfing for a second even though they don't cause a problem with USB tethering, makes no difference
I've deleted the network connection numerous times
    "repaired" connection
    dissabled and enabled the wifi
turned off the wireless with a hardware switch and on again
    disabled bluetooth
    rebooted many times
    reinstalled itunes (latest)
loads more things i can't remember
This is causing me a nightmare. I've been through everything i can find online, been to the Apple store genius bar (genius appeared to have sub zero knowledge / interest as it involved a MS machine), been to a Three shop (legally not allowed to touch my PC apparently) and been to a Sony shop (laptop make, not their fault if my iphone doesn't work). All very frustrating.
Please help if you can! Any suggestion will be tried unless it involves sledge hammers or lakes, and only then for a few more days at most.

Turned off bluetooth on phone, turned off hotspot and on again, phone asked if i wanted to turn on bluetooth or go with USB and wifi only, said usb/wifi only. Still nothing. Rebooted PC and iphone. Turned on hotspot, pc seemlessly connects to network, still no data comes.
One odd thing is zone alarm asks me to "select a security zone for the wireless network at ip address: *******.0" every time and doesn't seem to remember the setting over sessions. When i get the status of the connection the ip address is *****.2 and default gateway is same ********.1 Not sure if that's anything.
Also getting a javascript error about an undefinded component (trustcheckermozilla) since i updated zonealarm but as i said even completely uninstalling zonealarm made no difference. I'll update firefox as well but tried with IE and still no data.

  • Left most usb port works with usb 3 devices but not with usb 2 devices

Can someone enlighten me on this issue? I have a MBP mid 12 that seems to have issues with usb 2 devices such iPods, HHDs, etc. The same port works fine with usb 3 devices. I have tried several solutions but not avail such as resetting the SMC, PROM, disconnecting the battery and reinstalling OS X from scratch. Is there anything Im missing? I still don't believe is a hardware issue but something wrong in the firmware...

  • Ipod works with USB 1.1, but not USB 2.0 (30GIG)

Has anyone had this issue? I plug my 30GIG iPod into a USB 2.0, and it says updating, do not disconnect for what seems like an eternity. Eventually, it pops up saying the ipod appears to be corrupted, restore to factory settings? I respond ok, and then it fails to restore. Tried multiple USB 2.0's, same thing.
Next, I pluged into my USB 1.1, and it pops up itunes (latest version) almost immediately, and shows the ipod, and allows me to xfer tunes immediately.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I'm having a similar problem. I've tried reinstalling USB2.0 drivers, iTunes, iPod but cannot get it to work. It just shows up in the device manager as 'USB Mass storage device' with an exclaimation mark next to it. I've tried to update the drivers for the 'USB MAss storage device', however it just says that I've already got the most updated drivers for the device. I've succumbed to the 1.1 for now, but would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this situation!

  • Help. about the ipod nano charged with usb 1.1

i just got the ipod nano. now i am charging it. according to the mannul, it will take 3hr to charge it by usb 2.0.
considering i only have usb 1.1, so my question is how long it wil take to charge the nano. until i wait for 6hr and the screen still shows do not disconnect. i can transfer the music and image to the nano. thanks.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how long the charge will take with USB 1.1, but I'd guess it would be way longer that "twice as long".
The "do not disconnect" will show as the display until you eject the iPod thru iTunes.
Now here the tricky part since I don't have a 1.1 USB. If you eject it thru iTunes, I believe the screen will show if it is still charging or "charged". So when you know you need to charge it, plug in to the `puter, then eject and leave it connected, to see what happens.
I do recommend getting the USB power adapter. For USD30.00, it is really worth it. Well, for me at least. I charge regularly (4 times a week) and only plug into my computer to add more music (maybe once a month). Your usage may be different, but it is so easy to come home and just plug it into the dock (plugged into the wall).

  • Tips for working with USB floppy drives

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on working with USB floppy drives in Archlinux.
One thing I've noticed is that trying to use mkfs.msdos on my USB floppy drive directly doesn't seem to result in a usable disk (it's mountable, but reports that I don't have enough space available to copy files), but if I use the command on an image file the same size as a floppy disk and then use dd to copy the blank image to my USB drive I get a disk that's perfectly usable.  Anybody know what the deal is with that or how I might be able to successfully format a disk in fewer steps (other than keeping the blank images around and just using dd to format the floppies, haha)?
Also, I'd like to hear any other tips or tricks any of you have for working with USB floppy drives.  They just seem so much more usable under Windows as opposed to Linux, and that disappoints me a little.

jmetal88 wrote:Okay, thanks guys.  I haven't figured out the issue yet, but you're helping me narrow it down.  I decided to run a df -h command after each try of formatting the disk this time.  I tried the low-level ufiformat command followed by a mkfs.msdos on the device, using a 720k disk, and df -h showed 700k free on the file system.  It's just not making the file system large enough (I believe the file I was trying to copy over was 710k or so).  When I run mkfs.msdos on a 720k disk image and then dd the image over to the drive, df -h shows 713k free after mounting the drive.  Any idea why mkfs.msdos isn't filling out the full 720k on the disk itself, but is on the image?
I would assume this happens because (as far as I can tell from skimming through the source over the course of a few minutes) mkfs.fat only applies floppy size heuristics to fd and lo devices -- your USB floppy drive is treated as a hard drive, and that leads to less-than-ideal default parameters. Run
    fsck.fat -v
on the more spacious filesystem to figure out what options need to be set when you attempt formatting an actual disk. Or just make things easier by keeping newly-formatted blank disk images on hand so that dd and (maybe) ufiformat are all you need to worry about.

  • New iPod working with USB 1.0

So I heard that the new Video iPods are USB 2.0. First question, why the **** is apple going away with firewire? Second how does the new 4th generation work with USB 1.0 on an FP iMac? I am sure it is slow but will it work? Still a bit frusterated they arn't firewire....
    Thanks for the help.

why the ** is apple going away with firewire?
They haven't said. Perhaps to save space on the iPod.
From everything I've read it seems to be exactly that, as if you compare the dimensions of a FireWire chip to that of a USB chip, the size differences are in general rather great. In addition, although I cannot vouch for this myself, I've read in multiple places that FireWire chips are more expensive to manufacture, therefore this could be yet another reason. Not to mention the obvious one that the majority of iPods users have Windows machines, very few of which are equipped with FireWire. It is kind of a shame that Apple is straying away from FireWire given that in multiple computers that I've tested, syncing via FireWire has proven faster (using my old 4G iPod though of course) however the speed differences are pretty marginal. Finally, the thinness and price of the new iPods truly are amazing given both the 'competition' and previous generation iPods, so it seems to be a fair enough tradeoff.
    Happy Holidays to all!!!

I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.

I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix? I tried using the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut, but it doesnt' work.  It's possible that since I reinstalled the OS, it still needs to be set up, so there's only a welcome screen (but since I can't see it I'm not sure).

  • Does ipod nano work with ipod photo dock, s-video out?

Does the ipod nano work with the ipod photo dock, with an s-video out? Will apple make one for the nano specifically?

The iPod nano cannot show photos on an external device, I suspect Apple have not built this feature into the hardware. The options for showing to a TV are not in the photo menus either.
