Nap with chud in 10.5?

Will it be possible to activate nap with the so called chud tools in leopard using an mdd 867?

I'm guessing here, but I think the problem with the cache showing as unavailable in CHUD 3.5.2 may be a reporting / display issue, rather than the caches really being turned off or disabled. I'm running Leopard on a PowerBook G4 1.5GHz and the CHUD Tools display the cache as off when the preferences panel is first clicked. But the machine still appears to be running at full speed.
Now, if I flick the CHUD option to 'on' (512KB L2 in my case) - no change. Flick it back to 'None' and things slow right down. Turn it back on, speed is restored, quit and reload system prefs, check the Hardware panel... and it's saying 'None' again.
It's definitely having problems, and I really hope someone can fix it properly, but I don't think there's a performance hit here.

  • NAP with DHCP with an external NPS server

    Hi ,
I have setup NAP with DHCP setup in my lab setup  and it is working . On my setup both the DHCP server and NPS are running on the same Longhorn server .
What  I would like to understand better is the communication between the DHCP server and the radius server ( i.e NPS ) .I would therefore  like to run these two components on two separate boxes and capture sniffer traces as the two are communicating.
My question is what do I need to configure to have the DHCP server and  NPS to talk to each other since I will run them on two separate machines. Is there a write up that explains the interaction between the two .
    Thanks
     Mohammed Yassin

I have configured NPS2 to proxy Machine Identity "Machine health check" to NPS1.  NPS2 is generating RADIUS Access-Requests when a client is attempting to obtain a DHCP address (as configured in the step by step doc) The RADIUS Access-Reject message is being returned, here is the output.  There is no user account in the originating request from NPS2, nor is the user account info present in the DHCP request by the NAP enabled client so I'm not sure how this should work.

  • Integrating Microsoft NAP with Cisco ASA

    Hello everyone,
I'm quite new to the Cisco world. I wonder if and how it is possible to marry Cisco ASA with Microsoft NAP (in Terms of VPN Enforcement). Does anybody know some helpful documents? Is an ACS Server/Appliance necessary?
Thanks in advance and kind regards

    Hello Jatin,
    thanks for your reply.
Microsoft states that authentication via PEAP is necessary for NAP to work:
"One security feature of PEAP is the transmission of Statement of Health (SoH) messages."
    (see http://blogs.msdn.com/b/openspecification/archive/2009/06/05/peap-phase-2-encapsulation-examples-for-a-client-authenticating-with-ms-chapv2.aspx?Redirected=true)
However, I found this topic which states that PEAP auth. is not possible with the ASA: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2028742
    Is that true?

  • Turning off one processor with CHUD tools

So I need to turn off one processor on my MBP running leopard 10.5.4 to solve a sound problem with Myst III Exile. When I switch to just one processor in the processor preference pane the computer slows down, which is normal, but what doesn't seem normal is that there are processing spikes that happen every 5 seconds or so. The computer seems to freeze during these spikes. I'm not running anything out of the ordinary. I have my linotype font explorer running, transmission torrent client running and thats it. Once I turn the second processor on again the computer functions normally with no spikes. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for stating the obvious, does anyone have any intelligent suggestions rather than casual observations?

  • Is Multiple Compliant VLAN Possible with NAP 802.1x Enforcement?

Multiple Compliant VLANs for 802.1x NAP Enforcement
    <small class="single-by" style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:0.9em;line-height:1.5em;color:#777777;text-transform:capitalize;"></small>
    Hello Dear,
I am implementing NAP with 802.1x enforcement type. but it is an existing network where the organisation already has the network segmented into about 7 VLANs based on the departments in the organisation and the VLANs equally have IP interfaces on them (meaning
    they are subnets).
By design NAP with 802.1x enforcement supports 2 VLANs: Compliant and Non-Compliant VLANs apart from the GuestVlan which the switch uses for 802.1x pre-authentication.
In my test lab, authenticated clients are pushed to Compliant VLAN if they meet SHV set. Also,if they don’t meet the SHV they are moved to Non-Compliant VLAN.
How do I apply this type of enforcement for multiple VLANs belonging to the organisation’s different Departments? Assuming I decide to create a single Non-Compliant VLAN this may cater for non-compliant clients but what VLAN among the 7 existing VLAN will compliant
    clients be pushed into?
How will the switch know the VLAN a member of a particular department should be moved to since there are more than one Compliant VLAN assuming I configured ” NPS Network Policy” for more than one compliant VLAN?
Please your help is very important.
    Thanks.
    Alex.

    Thanks Greg.
That works. But I have two other big challenges:
    1st Challenge:
I have close to 50 VoIP devices as well as printers that must be exempted from NAP and the position of the 802.1x enabled switch is such that it is the Distribution switch to which Access Switches tied to each VLANs are connected(each access switch connect
to an authenticating port on the Distribution Switch) and IP Phones, data points and printers are then connecting to the Access Switches.
There is the limitation of how many MAC addresses can be exempted even when pattern matching is used in NPS(256 characters maximum) and this cannot cater for over 50 non-NAPcapable devices in this network. Should I create
several exemption policies using the pattern matching to accommodate the 50+ non-NAPcapable devices? Please advise.
    2nd Challenge:
In this existing Network, there are branch offices that communicate with this HQ over a dedicated WAN connection(NOT VPN over internet). Please how do I ensure routing communication between HQ and branches is not hampered at the introduction of 802.1x NAP
enforcement at this HQ network? Your prompt response will be highly appreciated...
    Thanks a great deal.
    Alex.

  • Driver issue? with docked T61, and 31P9490- IBM USB Travel Keyboard w/ UltraNav and sleep mode

Can someone from Lenovo please advise me on which version drivers need to be installed for the external keyboard and mouse, and/or the proper power setting(s) to use with this configuration so the machine will react and wake up from its nap with a Fn+F4 on the external keyboard?
T61  7658-CTO,  3GB RAM,  Vista Business Ultimate.  These are the external IBM/Lenovo devices used:
    250410U     THINKPAD ADVANCED MINI DOCK
31P9490    IBM USB TRAVEL KEYBOARD W/ULTRANAV
    31P8700     SCROLLPOINT PRO OPTICAL MOUSE
I have an issue with waking my T61 up from sleep mode while it’s docked and using the external keyboard, mouse, and monitor.  When the machine is docked, the blue Fn keys or the Think Vantage button do not function on the external keyboard.
The external keyboard seems to be the same as the internal keyboard installed in the TP- which I thought would react the same as the internal keyboard when I installed the driver that it came with.  I had hoped something this simple would be easier than it now seems.
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers, Mark

Thanks for the advice Izzy.  After installing both sets of keyboard and hotkey drivers it does respond to most (but not all) blue Fn key combinations as marked on the external keyboard.  The blue ThinkVantage button still does not respond.
Oddly enough, I am able to use the Fn+F4 key combination to put it into sleep mode and to bring it back out, but when the display comes back I have no control of the UltraNav pad, track pointer, or mouse.  I had to open the TP cover slightly and use the pad to get past the login screen to the desktop.
Incidently, just after using the UltraNav pad on the machine as it was slightly open a couple of messages popped up onscreen involving the USB port(s).  One indicated it was searching for a new device driver for a USB connected device, and the other indicated I could benefit from connecting the device to a high- speed USB port by unpluging the low-speed hub and connecting directly to an available high-speed USB port.
Interestingly, I don't have any external hub connected. It may have identified the docking station USB ports as low-speed, which I don't believe they are...any ideas for what to do with this new set of issues?
    Thanks, Mark

  • If I turn off notifications/data to take a nap, will I miss some alerts?

I sometimes want to turn off all sounds on my iPhone except for the phone ringer when I take a nap, so I can sleep undisturbed unless someone needs to reach me by phone. My question is: If I turn off all notifications in the settings, temporarily, will I then receive all the alerts I should receive once I turn notifications back on? So, for example, if someone friends me on Facebook while I'm taking my nap with the notifications off, will I get the friend notification from the Facebook app once I turn the notifications back on?
If not, would this work for a solution: turn off 3G, cellular data, and wi-fi while I take a nap? When I turn them back on, will I get the notifications that would have come through during my nap had they been turned on?
If not, can you suggest another solution?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Read this website for some insightful reading
    http://applevibe.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-push-notification-works-on-iphone.html
To return to your question at hand, I think you should able to get the pop-up's when you put the phone into "Airplane"-mode.
I have countlessly gone on flights and received a barrage of pop-up's when I turn Airplane Mode off.

  • No Power Nap Option Before Update

I went to set up Power Nap with ML and there was no option for it. Then I got a notification that there was an update for the rMBP specifically for sleep issues. The option is there now, we'll see if it works.

I had read that too. Fortunately, I meet that requirement. I have one of those expensive Apple SSD's. So that was not my problem. Sadly, I just don't have the right hardware for this feature.

  • M-Audio Ozone whine

    Hi folks,
I have an M-Audio Ozone, USB midi and audio interface connected to my iBook. (G4, 1.33gHz, 768MB RAM, OSX 10.4.9))
Whenever I load up Logic Express a faint whine starts to appear from my speakers.
Shutting down logic stops the noise.
It also appears if the Ozone is still connected and I play a song via iTunes or Quicktime.
I've downloaded the latest driver from the M-Audio site and tried using different connection cables and output jacks on the Ozone, all without success.
Has anyone else come across a similar problem?
    Thanks,
    Robert.

There have been cases of reported whine with some Mac's.
The solution I am aware of has been to download the CHUD tool from Apple's developer site.
It will add 'Processor' to the system pref's. Older versions show a 'Hardware" preference panel instead.
Open it and uncheck 'Allow Nap'.
    http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=208800&d= 1157836667
    Versions here:
    ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/ToolChest/Testing_-_Debugging/Performancetools/
However depending on your computer the newest version may or may not show the Allow Nap checkbox.
If it doesn't, unistall with CHUD remover before installing another.
I would try 3.5.2 with a G4 and look for Hardware preference panel.

  • G5 Dual 2.7 output sound at 21.8 Khz?

The outputs on my G5 dual 2.7 are way from silent, in addition to the sounds described in other topics I experience the nasty side-effects of a sound that is actually outside of the audible spectrum.
These sounds are present even with the G5's output muted
One would say, if you can't hear it, why bother.
BUT, every sound puts pressure on the eardrum, even if it is not audible, causing hearing-fatigue or even worse hearing damage on long term exposure.
Fortunately I have found this little app which is capable of analyzing the in and outputs of the Mac, works on all models running osx.
With this app even deaf people can trace unwanted sounds.
It creates a nice visible representation of what goes on, I encourage everyone to give it a try and report.
You can download a tryal version of the app at this url:
    http://www.dogparksoftware.com/iSpectrum.html
To be able to see the full frequency scale move the bandwith slider to 40.0
On My G5 it shows varying high pitched (screeching) noises around 18 Khz and a sound at 21.8 Khz.
I already tried some options to get rid of the sounds:
Disabling Nap using chud tools did not make any significant difference
Resetting the PMU (by pressing a small microswitch located on the logic board) seemed to help somewhat, after that the sounds where only present when resizing windows or using expose for example, however after reconnecting a (powered down) FW drive all noises returned.
    maybe worth mentioning:
I noticed static discharges on the G5's chassis when plugging in audio connectors.
In all, this problem has rendered my G5 totally useless for the pupose I bought it, which is audio post production.

  • Very poor battery after upgrading iphone 3g to 3.0

Hello, i live in Egypt so i just update my iphone today , i went to take a nap with my iphone full of charge i woke up it was dead and didnt even respond to the home button or anything.
I've also noticed that it is much hotter while charging and syncing too hot really ,i dont think i could go exchange it in Egypt due to annoying staff here.
I dont know what happened to my once awesome phone , i stopped the push , i lowered my brightness to like nothing and its being a complete pain, somebody please help me resolve this problem.
PS: I've also noticed that apple staff have not said a word on whats going on.
    Thanks MooS

I'd like to add that I'm in Canada, on an original 2G iPhone and I've noticed the same thing. On 2.x my iPhone could last up to 3 days. Now it lasts only a day if I'm lucky. Nothing whatsoever has changed except that OS 3 is now the OS. There has definitely been some huge alteration in power management in OS 3.0 and I also hope that Apple will address this ASAP.

  • External Hard drive Auto-sleep Disable

I have a problem with my external drive, a Seagate GoFlex 2TB. Basically the drive goes to sleep while I am transfering files and freezes up Finder. From what I have read, a possible solution would be to disable the auto sleep in the drive firmware but I am unable to find software that will allow me to do this. Using the seettings in Engery Preferences does not effect the external drive. It is appartent that I can change the sleep timer Using CHUD Ulitities, which is included in XCode in Lion, so I am waiting for XCode to download. I have no idea where to start with CHUD though, any suggestions as to another application that will help me out with this problem, or how to change the Sleep timer using CHUD?
    Thanks

No, Energy Saver prefs have no effect on external drives.
CHUD is a simple GUI interface that lets you set the interval that each disk is pinged. It will keep the disk spinning but that's not always desireable, especially if the disk tends to run hot.
I used CHUD when I was having an issue with some chained FW disks and it did keep it spinning, although I feared more for the disk than the chain. It didn't really solve my issue, so I found another workaround. Hard disks spin down after about 15 minutes of inactivity for a reason.

  • How you make recend uploads appear in the recently added folder

When adding to itunes library, how do you make the selections appear in the recently added folder.  The folder was deleted but rebuilt.

It is a mixed playlist and finally I came up with an answer; it might sound strange but I woke up from a nap with all correct settings figured out.
    This is what I did:
I had to specify a subset for every podcast or I would end up with every episode available on my library which in turn would reach the limit I set but that's OK. I noticed though, that podcast won't sync to iTunes Match, which is a bummer, but still they sync over Wi-Fi. This is what I got finally:
    Thanks for all your help!
