ok. when i try to transfer my computer says transfer error. but later when i try to import or sync the downloaded songs, the artist and the name of the album are listed in my creative library, but there are no songs, and none of the info is put into my micro.

  • I have downloads from Napster, but can't get them on my ipod

The ipod loaded the iTunes songs, but I have lots of songs from Napster that won't go on it...HELP! What do I do?

Napster music files won't play on the iPod, neither will iTunes convert them to a format that will because they are protected wma files which neither the iPod nor iTunes can play.
What you would need to do is to burn these songs to an audio cd and then import it into iTunes and transfer the songs to the iPod.
And that's always assuming Napster lets you burn the songs to a cd. Some music download services don't allow this unless you pay extra.

  • Napster To

I recently subscribed for the free trial of Napster-to-Go, as my Creative Zen Touch was not on the list of incompatible players. However, when I tried to transfer the music files on to my Zen Touch, it said it was not a compatible player.
Does anyone know when the Zen Touch might become compatible with Napster To Go, like the Zen Micro?

I've used napster to go recently and found that it stinkns. I had to install a firmware package to allow it to interact, which means that my Zen Micro doesn't get recognised by it's media organizer which I got from creative.
The billing is complicated, there are big holes in the number of bands and it seems to have ruined my Zen Micro.
    But that's just my experience,
P.S If anyone has any ideas on how to get my player recognised again, I'd be immesurably grateful.
    Thanks

  • Cases for the Zen Xtra and which online servi

I just bought a Zen Xtra 30 GB and would like to get some safe way of carrying it when I jog. Either a fanny pack or arm band. Has anyone seen these. If so where? Also what online services work with this device. I saw Napster works directly with the micro.

I've not seen either specifically for the Zen, but I'm sure you can get a generic belt based case from something like a camera shop. Or use a case e.g. Vaja, that has a belt connector.
Currently the Xtra will support any service that uses normal WMA DRM (or of course the very few that use MP3). It won't support PlayForSure (and Janus DRM) yet, but a new firmware is supposed to bring this. See the FAQ.

  • Having a view of the bitrate of ALL tunes on mi

Is there anyway to use the software that came with the micro, or WMP, or Musicmatch, or Napster - whatever. to see the bitrate as a column in all of the songs on my micro? I haven't found this anywhere - I can get columns on just about anything but bitrate - of course for the songs on my puter WMP Musicmatch and Napster show it fine. They even did with my iri'ver since it showed as a separate dri've...
I know I can check the songs individually - but I'd like to see them as a column like most music programs is this possible.
Realplayer has a quality column under devices - but it doesn't show any values in it.
    Thanks for any help.

On all the hard dri've players, you can view Track Details of a playing tune, which shows bit rate.
The key is a Playing Tune not one from the library. Keep in mind all Nomad's and Zen's build their index and display from the original id3 tags. Bit rate is not specifically stored in the id tag, it is a property of the file. So that would need to be deri'ved by the player. Windows and various softwares do this as the file system is being backed by the host processor ... A player would need to process the file in some similar manner.
It probably could be something that could be added to the firmware, but no doubt it would affect the total indexing and result in a lower 'Dark Limit' (important for those with large collections trying to get all those tunes on the player).

  • Stop Napster Auto Starting when I connect my

I wonder if anyone has any tips about this one...
When I first connected my ZMP I accidentially chose "always start Napster to syncronise" from the auto start list.
Normally I choose "don't do anything" but I chose Napster by accident this time.
Anyway - normal autostart removal techniques dont work with the ZMP...
Anyone any ideas how to stop this auto starting?
    cheers!
    dj_T

When connecting your MicroPhoto, the "MTP icon" will appear in your taskbar briefly. Double-click that icon to bring back the "MTP Media Player" autostart box; you can then change the option. I suggest you choose "Take no action" and keep the "do this every time" option on; that means it won't autostart any application.
You can also download the TweakUI application for WinXP from Microsoft and use it to change your player's autostart options.

  • Having problems lisening to music after using Napster?

I recently downloaded napster and I downloaded the firmware that I needed and dowloaded a few songs. Everything went perfect for a few days, then last night I tried listening to a song and a screen poped up on the player that said "No license to play. Sync license from PC." does anyone know whats going on? Do I need to do something to let it play songs from Napster?

Songs you download from online music stores are usually in WMA format, and protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management). These files can usually be played back on players, but require the licence to do so. What software did you use to copy the files over? Make sure you used either MediaSource or Windows Media Player. Perhaps delete the file from your player, and copy it over again using either of those two programs.
Which player do you have exactly... It may be you have a player that isn't compatible with Napster To Go (yet).

  • Napster problems now that I have BT Infinity

    Hello,
Only had BT Infinity installed yesterday. Everything is nice and fast....except Napster.
I can listen to a song or two if I'm lucky then it just keeps trying to connect or buffer. Five minutes or so go by and then the next song will play for a bit and then it will happen all over again. The pattern it follows makes me doubt it is a problem with the Napster service itself, as the first song seems to play through seamlessly.
I've tried to connect to Napster via a web interface and the Windows program, no difference. I am connecting to the HH3 wirelessly, but had no connection problems and no power saving is set up on the HH3.
    Any advice appreciated!
    Rob H

    Hi,
I would really appreciate some help on this from someone at BT - I have spoken to support (the only thing they did was get me to reset the router/homehub) and am waiting on a call back which doesn't seem to be going to materialize. To be honest, I was unable to communicate my problem to them properly in a way that they understood.
A couple of other people seem to have the problem with BT Infinity too:
    http://bbs.gb.napster.com/doc/showthread.php?t=1230&page=3
(I can't register on that forum though it seems)
The day before I had BT Infinity - everything was ok - the day I had BT Infinity installed and ever since it has not worked properly (Napster that is). For what it is worht - Spotify for example is fine.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Napster to go music libr

Anyone notice the extent of the "to go" library?
Napster implies some of the library is off limits for portable device download. How much is actuall out of bounds?

well lets see.....NO led zeppelin at all..... Talking Heads "stop making sense is availible for NTG....and no Mothers of Invention
some artists wont let any music service use their music at all....sometimes certain tracks on albums are purchase only....
to compare to Rhapsody music service...there are no zeppelin, no mothers and the same Talking heads songs...so its a artist related issue....Rhapsody is more use friendly but no "to go" capability...Napster to Go if you have a wide musical taste there are thousands of songs I could get everyday I just wish it had a better website/navigation.....its kinda clumsy at first learning how to get songs to your mp3 player....

  • Zen Micro with Napster Is

I have two Creative Zen Micro 6GB players using Napster to Go. One player (my wife's) works flawlessly with the Napster To Go feature. Everything downloads smoothly and directly. With the other player, nothing goes directly from Napster to the player. I must first download it to my harddri've and then use one of the different software options to get it into the player. This is not a terrible hardship as everything works eventually, but it would be nice if I could skip that one extra step.
It seems like the player is freezing when connected to Napster. The little curved arrows which flash on and off on the player stay "on" all the time after connecting to Napster and doing the little info exchange.
?All the latest firmware is loaded on both players and on the computer. Anybody have any thoughts on why this might be occurring?

    Hi,
Napster to go is a fantastic service, very easy to use so long as you're only using the one machine. I used N2G a few months ago (have since stopped as I'm a poor student hehe).
    Basic run down -
Firmware IS a bit "iffy" just make sure you have the "Play for sure" firmware on the zen micro. If i remember correctly Napster actually checks your mp3 player when you plug it in.
The napster software itself does require patience, I noticed when copying tracks it didn't display track by track completion but rather every 0 tracks update the list. depending on the size of your collection obviously depends on how long it'll take to send the music to your player.
If you're using Napster on more than one machine (you are allowed to use it on three per household) make sure you get the restore feature right first time, I constantly had to call tech support to get extra download credits added on to my account (free of charge) to redownload my collection after reformats etc.
Sometimes the DRM can get a bit screwy aswell, but it was very rare and tech support were very prompt in sorting out the problems.
In all I would highly recommend Napster to go with the zen micro, nice sleek player with a good service with a HUGE database of songs, it blows away anything else available at the minute *cough* apple *cough* . Please bear in mind that the problems listed above were issues I encountered whilst using the N2G service, however it should be noted I do tinker a LOT with things. Provided you leave things alone and don't try and "explore" you shouldn't run into half as many problems as I did.
    Best Regards

  • How is iTunes compared to Napster?

Up to this point, I've been the only iPod user in the house (others have had different brands of MP3 player). However, now we're all going to be using iPods, so we're considering switching to iTunes rather than Napster. How do the two compare? My only complaint with Napster has been that the files are NOT compatible with iTunes, so I have to put the songs on a CD before I can put them on my iPod. This can get ridiculously expensive!
Does iTunes have the same selection of music available for purchase as Napster?
Also, I've been told that there's no monthly subscription fee for iTunes, just a pay by song - is this correct?
    Thanks for any input/help.

Just to add to the mix, last Christmas, my girl thought she was doing good buying a $25.00 Napster card for supposed "three months access" but it only allowed music to be downloaded to the hard drive. You have to have a credit card and then pay 99cents per song to move them to the MP3 player. I was so ****** off. Don't believe Napster "deals", just use the cards where you pay the 99cents per song. It works but it's no where near as good as I-Tunes.

  • MediaSource - functionality & playli

    Dear all
i have a Zen Touch 40Gb, a large music library and a number of gripes. i apologise in advance for the length of my post but i'd be really grateful for any advice you can send my way. i've searched through a large number of similar threads on this forum but, frankly, i've not seen a lot of answers (one poor chap was told his was a duplicate question but there was no link to the acti've thread so he's probably still searching for the truth!):-
. Saving/Exporting playlists - a lot of people seem to have this problem/complaint: is there really no way of saving a playlist from MediaSource to a .m3u file? (please note, in response to something i read in another post, i've tried synchronising playlists to my Zen Touch and using the separate explorer software but there is no usable playlist file there either that any of my other software will recognise). i'm trying hard not to sound negati've but this seems like a really basic functionality, particularly given that you can IMPORT .m3u playlists into MediaSource - why not export 'em too?!
    2. Sorting playlists - has anyone found a workaround in order to sort playlists created in MediaSource? whether i'm creating a compilation, building a mix, creating a sub-group, avoiding duplication of tracks in an existing list or just trying to vary the play order of my tunes this would be a REALLY useful feature and it seems so simple to include in the software. you can sort in the main music library so why not in the playlist view?! again, i haven't been able to sort playlists within the Zen Touch explorer software either. is there any plan to introduce this functionality? are there any practical workarounds?
    3. Reporting playlists - it would also be useful to generate a report of track listings either from playlists or selected songs. the report format could be something no more sexy than a tab-separated text file. these can be pasted into a word or excel document and sorted/searched/printed/saved to our hearts' content. in the absence of functions # & #2 above, this would at least give me some options when it comes to saving and sorting my inspired playlists. alternati'vely, if functions # & #2 were available in MediaSource i could probably li've without #3. but with all of them absent i can barely describe MediaSource as an "organiser" because it simply doesn't enable you to do any real organising (if you're as dull as me, obviously!)
    4. File conversion - i've a number of .wma files in my library - mainly 92kb
    ps.
whenever i try to convert them to mp3 (i have my reasons!!) the process fails. the error message says the "format conversion is not supported". some (but not all) of these files are downloads from Napster but I purchased the tracks and they should therefore be free to burn to cd or to sync with a portable device so i don't think they are protected. is there any reason why i can't achieve this file conversion?
    5. Navigation - again a dull and seemingly minor gripe but therein lies my irritation: the "backward" and "forward" buttons in MediaSource do not function like similar buttons in any other file explorer software i have used (whether designed for music files or otherwise). you can't navigate between recently viewed artist or album folders (of which i, and most other users, have many hundreds) - only between the main library and the playlists. it's not the end of the world but this seems like such a basic feature in any other navigation software that i just don't see why MediaSource doesn't work the same way.
Ideally, i would like to use MediaSource to organise all my music but at the very least if there was an EXPORT function i would be able to transfer the extensi've data & playlists i've already generated into other more sophisticated software. i could then tweak them for use in other programs and also re-import amended playlists back into MediaSource. there is plenty of good quality free software out there and some excellent specialist software available for a very minimal outlay that can organise your mp3s and playlists in ways MediaSource users can only dream of (assuming, of course, that you dream about computer programs. i don't, i promise!) if i could export my playlists i could probably ignore MediaSource for anything other than sync-ing with my Zen Touch and use a stand-alone mp3 organiser to manage my music. i would happily settle for this but I'm surprised and disappointed that a company that is so big in the music industry leaves me in this position.
i know i'm moaning (a lot) but these issues seem so basic to me that i am really frustrated with the lack of features in MediaSource. i chose my Zen Touch deliberately over and above any other mp3 player on the market (including the i-pod) for technical reasons and i stand by that decision. however, as another user has commented in this forum, performance doesn't count for very much if there is no functionality or support.
please, if there is anyone out there with some tips or workarounds to my problems, or someone from Creative who can tell me when software updates will be released to cover these issues, or someone who can point me to an existing thread which received an answer, i may even be willing to part with cash (<EM>may</EM>...!)
    Many thanks
    pip

  • Creative Zen 8GB and Naps

My new Creative Zen 8GB isn't working with Napster - Napster is complaining about the firmware version. It came with .03, and I've updated it to the ..04 available on this site - no luck with either version. Is anyone using the new Zens with Napster, and if so what version firmware are you using? Also, is there any way to get older versions of the firmware? Thanks

I have begun to have a problem since going to firmware version 2. I have the 6 GB ZEN and it came with version 0. I should have just left well enough alone (you know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!) since I wasn't having any problems that I was aware of. But since 'upgrading' to 2 I have noticed an issue where about once a week when I go to play my Napster-to-go songs it displays the message that there is no license to play the songs and that I need to sync my player with Napster, even though I'm nowhere near my monthly license renewal date. I connect the player to the PC with Napster running and Napster 'Checks' the status of the player but that alone does not renew the license and allow me to play my Napster-to-go songs on the ZEN. However, if I download even one new song to the player, then all is fine and I can play everything again. So it's not as bad as the problems above but still at least a little bit annoying. I'm placing the blame on Creative's firmware since I didn't have the problem before. If could roll back to version 0 I would. I'm not going to version 3 since there are a bunch of reported bugs. I'm assuming that Creative will eventually release a firmware that fixes this. I'm also assuming that is part of the reason that Creative pulled version 2 almost as soon as they rolled it out. I appreciate Creatives constant upgrading of the firmware to 'fix' issues but I wish they would give a little more detail as to what the newer versions do as well as to offer the older versions so we can roll back. Also, I think it would show great faith if Creative would post their findings of bugs in new firmware so we can know what to look for. I don't mind being a beta-tester for them but at least keep us in the loop! M.

  • Should I reformat my Micro

I have a Zen Micro and Napster-to-go. I use the Napster client to manage all the music on my zen, and it is setup to Auto-Sync so that everything I import or download to Napster ends up on the Zen.
    So far so good.
However, my MP3/WMA and Napster files have all come from lots of different sources over the last few years (all legal) and I have found out that their ID3 tags are completely screwed up. Before I got the zen I didn't even know these tags existed, but on the Zen I have music listed in all kinds of crazy Artist/Album/Genre combinations.
So I have spent some time with MP3Tag (great program for this, BTW) and have corrected hundreds of messed up tags which will NOT sync to my micro unless I delete the song off it first.
So, I am thinking that I would use "Rescue Mode" and "Reformat" to delete everything and then let Napster reload the whole lot.
Is this wise? Will I lose my firmware update when doing this? Or does someone know of a better way to accomplish this?Message Edited by dustyporch on 05-3-2005 2:2 AM

That sounds like a good approach to me.
A format won't remove the firmware, just empty the player.

  • "Burn Playlist to CD"  Option Greyed Out

I'll bet the answer to this one is so straightforward that I will be embarrassed over missing something very simple...
Yesterday, for the first time, I tried burning a playlist on my iPod mini to a CD-R but found that the option was greyed out/not available. There is no colorful "Burn" icon up in the top right corner of the screen, I only know about it because I noticed it in a tutorial. I select the playlist by clicking on it under "Source." I notice that the blank CD does not appear in the Source list.
