Napster To Go & Windows XP Prob

Followed all the instructions and installed everything as described in manual... all was well. Napster saw the player Windows saw the player... but Napster said I needed to upgrade firmware to transfer songs... Upgraded my firmware on my Zen Micro and now when I plug it into the Computer the USB prompt pops up and says what it is.... but Napster says there is no device... I tried to check the firmware and it is now new version (per my player) but if I try to re-run firmware upgrade the Micro Zen program says the MP3 player is not connected? Napster also says no MP3 connected when it once did on the original firmware... Can anyone give me any ideas? Its crazy and thanks for any advice!

I'm not sure if the DRM update will help you, or if there's a way to reinstall the Napster software.

Itunes and windows installation prob...

I had an older version of itunes and tried to upgrade to 7.1. Everytime I try to download it, I click on the 'itunes setup' icon on my desktop and a 'windows installer' window pops up with a bunch of info that I don't understand. I uninstalled the old itunes and quicktime...any other suggestions?

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

970 Gaming Mobo windows installation probs

Hello there i just got myself a new motherboard (weeey) it's a 970 gaming but in the installation program where i choose what harddrive (ssd) id like to install windows on i just get a message that says i have to convert the ssd into gpt format to be able to install window. So i converted it to gpt and now it just says "windows cant be installed the choosen disc has partitiontype gpt" what am i supposed to do???? i googeld and got the answer only windows 8 can be installed om gpt drives but then the motherboard shouldn't be compatible with windows 7 right?

I just changed my old Socket A set to a new MSI K8N Neo Platinum + A64 3000 + 512 MB Pc3200.
As i started it up for the first time, it seemed to work ok, until it started to load windows XP from the HD. It restarts after 10-15 secs. By turning auto restart on system failure off in the Windows start up menu, i got to see an error message: "0x0000007B". The system seems to have trouble with starting windows after the mb switch.
I looked it up on MS's homepage and got instructed to reinstall window. It seems that windows cant load the new mb chipset drivers and so on automatically, they sort of clash with my old via socket a mb-drivers. The second alternative MS gave me was: repartition the harddrive, format and THEN reinstall windows. :(
I really dont feel like reinstalling, what with loosing all the program and game settings and installs and so on (and on and on and on) , so i wanted to know, is there an easy way out of this?

Whoa! Hang on. Just do a repair install. It's no big deal. It will keep all your settings and all your software intact. You will need to reinstall windows critical updates, so don't connect to the internet until you've started your software firewall, unless you're behind a router/fw in which case you're safe. Also, you'll need to Re-Activate XP, which is simple too.
After you do the repair install and get into windows, then load the system drivers (and sound drivers if needed) off of the MSI disk.
I was amazed at how simple this whole process was - and when I was done I was staring at the same desktop, just at new superfast speed (I upgraded from a 450mhz to the AMD 64 3000+).
Do I google search for Repair install XP and there's lots of step by step instructions out there. Here's one link:

ITunes 10 on Windows install prob solved

After a very frustrating experience trying to uninstall/reinstall iTunes 10 on a Vista machine using Norton, my difficulties were actually resolved by bypassing a Netgear wireless router.
I was repeatedly getting "invalid signature" upon downloading the iTunesSetup.exe regardless of firewalls/Norton being enabled/disabled.
I simply connected to my cable modem directly to the machine and re-established a connection.
Ran the exe as administrator and everything installed fine.
I hope this helps anyone experiencing the same frustration, and provides a possible solution.

Yes, that solution (to bypass wireless router and connect directly to a cable modem) has been posted many times over the past year.
Some sort of setting in the router is letting the file download enough to be considered "complete", but obviously something is not downloading correctly, or the error message wouldn't occur.
Nobody has ever posted back if updating Netgear drivers or fiddling with MTU settings fixes this.

Clients fail to resolve local DNS names, external names working fine

I've a strange issue with a couple of domain joined computers. Resolving internal and external host names works fine with nslookup. But clients loose AD connectivity because they can't resolve host names from the local DNS zones outside of nslookup.
Pinging IP addresses always works.
So far only notebook computers are affected. Desktop computers work fine. OS is Windows 7/8/8.1 for clients and Windows Server 2008 R2/2012 for AD DCs/DNS servers.
Example:

To get the client work again you just have to delete a few registry keys set by DirectAccess GPOs using this little batch:

Pre-xorg7 font problems not fixed after update

Hello all,
After several trouble free years my fonts have gone down the shitter. No idea how or when this issue started, I think it must have been after a recent freetype upgrade.
Here are two screenies which show the problem:

Notice how font spacing is screwed in term and gvim and how window title has gone to shit.

OK - I found this part about bitmap fonts on the wiki:

By default, fontconfig 2.3.2-4 and higher will disable the use of bitmap fonts. This setting is managed in /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-no-bitmaps.conf, or in higher versions, /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-bitmaps.conf. To enable bitmap fonts and keep them enabled after upgrades of fontconfig, place a symlink from yes-bitmaps.conf to 10-bitmaps.conf, overwriting the symlink to no-bitmaps.conf.
That's a recent change my update was on 19th Feb - that has fixed vim/gvim and terms, window title prob persists

DV7-1232nr LT smartcard reader sees but won't view/copy files despite admin/login; MS SW.

Despite being logged as admin, even sharing drive/folder, taking ownership, command prompt xcopy & in Vista Hm Prem, nothing will view or copy files to my PC! I've wasted 6 hours trying today, & the driver download is same as driver on LT, so that's no help--I had hoped to find an updated driver to fix this! The card is a Sandisk Micro-SD 2GB with adapter, fits & reads fine, but "access denied" for every attempt! I even changed ownership on each file, but it didn't change the access denied problem. I rebooted, tried diagnostic startup (in case of conflicts), tried shutting user acct. control off, etc. Since it's NOT sdhc (2gb & < qualifies), why won't the reader allow access to my files??? Do I need to use a different card reader through USB??? Then what good is the card reader installed?
BTW, 2 files that weren't in the image folder were able to be copied, but not viewed, after changing ownership. However, none of the others could be copied to the image folder on SD card, never mind onto PC. My LT is <2yrs old, am having all sorts of problems, not happy with HP so-called support after 1 yr, no help on expensive purchase like this? The Windows upgrade expired after 1 yr too, plus I bought this in 2010, yet its full of 2008 devices & SW?! (Brand new special ordered through Staples locally). What's with the Office 60-day TRIAL, can't uninstall that without windows/boot probs & sound issues. I have free full Open Source Office installed instead & had to keep the other MS crap (Office & Works) to keep LT working!!!
I got so tired of this LT always needing fixing I shut it down for 6 mo.'s, come back & still spend more time fixing it than using it--and I'm an IT professional 20+ yrs. Linux &/or MAC sounding better everyday!

Export problems - Error compiling movie - Unable to Create or Open output file

I've got a weird one here. I cannot export projects to my main render Raid-0 harddrive, but I can to any other drive.
This is not unique to Premiere. It's happening to me in AE and Cinema 4D, so I'm sure it's not an Adobe problem. But I'm posting it here in hopes that someone could help me figure this out. I've never run into this before.
I recently was forced to reformat my harddrive and reinstalled everything due to a harddrive failure. Reinstall of Windows 7 Ultimate and every other software went as expected.
My drives look like:
B: 2TB drive
C: 2TB drive has opperating system and CS5
R: is a 3-disk (3TB ea) Raid-0 (my main render drive)
S: 15TB NAS
T: 15TB NAS
I can render from C4D/AE and export from PP to ANY drive other than my R:\. When rendering to R:\ I always get a message like this (this happens to be from Premiere/AME):
I ensured my file permissions on R:\ were set to "yo, let anyone on this computer do whatever the heck he wants; got it, Winny?" but that didn't do it.
Any other suggestions?
I'm able to work, but can't render to the right drive. I can render to another drive and copy the rendered file over through Windows, no prob. Just rendering/exporting ain't working on any program.

I think I have identified my problem here. I will post the info for anyone else stumbling here in the future.
I belive it was my Raid box (Rosevwill RSV-S4-X) and/or controller card that was acting stupid. Not sure exactly what was going on. I could read/write from/to it all day long, but something about it didn't like things rendering to it. I would still like to know what the heck it's problem is since I will just migrate this box/controller back into our company "system." The laste bloke's computer this was on didn't seem to mind it at all. Computer picky? Don't know. It even worked on mine before the reformat and reinstall of Win7.
I installed a Sans Digital box and my computer just loved it and accepted it right into the family. Whew!
Not a solution, but if you have a Rosewill box and/or card, that's the first place I'd look if you're having a problem.
I mean, with a splash page like this, it's amazing it even worked AT ALL! Ya should'a seen the "interface" (notice the quotes).

Soucis de comportement (Structure Case - debugging)

après plusieurs essais, je peux dire ceci :
en mode debug, dans la fenêtre "probe watch window",
pour le "fil" qui traverse le sélecteur d'une structure case,
un changement de Label n'est pas pris en compte par LV.
démo:
au départ le Label de mon Controle etait "alpha" ... je le change en "bobo" (pourquoi pas )
la manip : run - LV stoppe sur le BP - placer un probe sur chacun des 2 fils
dans la fenêtre "probe watch window" le probe 11 indique "toujours" alpha. (??)
Le probe 12, lui, indique le bon Label.
Vous pouvez changer le Label comme vous voulez ...
le probe sur le fil "A" indiquera toujours "alpha" ... le probe sur le fil "B" indiquera, lui, le bon Label.
humm ... je pense qu'il y a ici un tout petit soucis.
C'est un peu perturbant ... quand on est à fond dans du step by step en train de traquer un cafard,
et que certain(s) labels ne correspondent pas ... "ça n'aide pas".
Un d'entre vous peut-il me confirmer ce comportment ... merci pour LV.

pour "actualiser" le Label sur le fil du sélecteur ... enlever la structure case et la replacer.
(manip assez contraignante si le code interne et externe de la dite structure case est complexe)
un contournement beaucoup plus simple :
changer le type du controle ... par exemple ici, faire passer le I32 en U32 ... et retour en I32 ensuite.
Sans "faire tourner", juste "changer et revenir" en mode édition ... ce simple changement actualise le Label.
Je reprécise que ce "soucis" ne se produit que sur le fil cablé au sélecteur, côté interne de la structure.

Out of synch sound

if anyone could help.
just downloaded a film from i tunes on my new samsung windows 8 laptop and the sound is out of synch with the film. it started off okay but the sound gradualy falls away. it works ok on my i phone.
could this be windows 8 prob or maybe because i downloaded hd version but my laptop has hdmi output??
can i delete the file and try and download again without be charged??

Thank you for a quick response. I think you may be right about all the file writing and deleting etc. I've captured about 10 one to one half hour 8mm tapes so far and burned to dvds so that may have affected everything!
I've done the repair permissions option in disk utility. Where can I find a download for MacJanitor?

Ok, i have an MSI KT4Ultra. At the moment i have x2 HDs on IDE2. I has wondering if i can add another HD on IDE3
. NB the HD would onbly be used for storgae as my boot drive is master on IDE2.

You shouldn't put your boot up drivers on IDE3
If you have 2 hard drives.
Just put them both on IDE1..
You may have to set jumpers on the hd's for master and slave.
Same with you IDE2 and your cdrom/burner/dvd
If you have 2 set the faster one as you master and second one as slave.
Windows has prob's installing off the slave cd for some odd reason....
As for IDE3 I think it was wasted space.
Msi said hey we have a extra spot here.
LETS PUT A 3rd IDE on the system. LOL
But whatever floats your boat.
Does anyone even use the 3rd ide?
