Narration help

I'm just starting to narrate one of my videos. Is it normal for narration to come out only one speaker? When I play back narration I'm only hearing it through my left speaker, while with footage and soundtracks I'm hearing sound from both speakers. When I played with the balance in the timeline, I noticed if I moved the line to the bottom I don't get any sound at all but if I move the line to the top I am able to hear my narration through the left speaker. Is this a problem with my mic? Could somone advise how I can fix this if it's not normal? I'm using PE4.

In my case, I am almost always working in DD 5.1 SS in PrPro, and then doing my Audio Export through the Minnetonka Audio SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in (optional in PrPro only) to AC3 Audio. With that, I can locate my narration where ever I want in the Audio "stage." For the narration track, I locate most of the source to my Center channel (with DD 5.1 SS, one has L (front), R (front), Center, Ls (rear), Rs (rear) and LFE) with just a touch of it going to the Ls & Rs channels, usually with a hint of Delay Effect and Reverb Effect applied.
For narration, I always use a mono source from a hyper-cardiod (pickup pattern type) mic. This allows for two things: the pickup concentrates on the voice of the speaker and rejects ambient sounds and all off-axis sounds, and allows me the ability to pin-point the source.
With a stereo mic, the pickup patteren is spread more, and picks up more ambient signals, and then in the mix spreads the speaker's voice around the sound stage. I feel that narration should sound as though it's coming from a tightly defined source. The use of the Ls and Rs is only to expand the depth of the narration, as though the speaker was actually on the same "stage" as the performers/subjects, i.e. to mimmick room acoustics a bit. If the scene is taking place in a large auditorium, and I want it to sound like the narrator is actually there, I'll feed more signal to the Ls and Rs and add more Delay and Reverb. If I want the speaker to be totally detached from the action on screen, then I'll use the Center channel only. It depends on what I wish to accomplish.

Narration Help - Need Quick!!

First off, thanks to anyone who can help.
I have created a presentation in keynote and my managers also want a version put to narration so people can just watch it on their own (without having to click, it will be a self playing movie). They are recording someone doing the presentation and are going to send me the audio file. What, in your opinion, is the best way for me to splice the audio down so it fits the topic of each slide.
Better put..the audio file will be 45 minutes long covering all slildes on the presentation, in keynote I need to place the narration for each particular slide..on each particular slide..thus I need to cut up the audio to match each slide.
I have toyed around briefly with garageband and imovie..what do you guys recommend for cutting up the audio and saving them as SEPERATE audio files.
I have to get this done ASAP so any suggestions you have would be great!!

For the self-running version, you could export the show from Keynote to QuickTime, then use QuickTime Pro to combine the slides with a continuous audio track. I have a little AppleScript utility designed especially for this purpose; you might give it a try...

Hi,
I have a report designed like the below, I have used "narrative view" for customer detail and "table view" for order detail. In the narrative view I can say row = 1 and it picks up the first record of the customer detail, but order detail shows all rows. How can I control it so the order detail shows only the detail record of the customer associated. Also how do I go to the second record and so forth. Please help. If this is not possible and if there are any alternates, please let me know. Thanks for your time and help.

1) Build a dashboard prompt for Customer Number. and save to a PV.
2) Build a report with all the columns for customer and order (in Criteria View) with a filter for the PV to capture the dashboard prompt.
3) Build a pivot table with Customer Number and Customer Name in the Rows section. Put the Customer Address in the Measures section and change the Aggregation Rule to Max.
This will serve as the summary table showing only the information of the customer selected.
2) Build Pivot Table:2 with the Order details.
3) In the Compound Layout, put Pivot table one on the top and Pivot Table:2 below it.
When a customer is selected, you will have the customer data with the order details under it for that customer only.

"Your current audio hardware selection dos not have any input channels." My question, therefore: Do I need to buy an external microphone? I have an HP Pavilion Laptop, running WIndows 8.1. I thought I had a built-in microphone. But ,maybe not. Please help. Also, WHAT KIND of microphone - exactly - should I buy? Thanks for your help.

Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and ASIO tab and click on it.
Under the Input tab, make sure that you have your microphone selected.

Help! 2 Hour Narration Problem

I recorded a 2 HOUR Narration over a Keynote presentation. During the first 10 minutes, my cell phone rang and i paused the narration and then restarted it and picked up narrating after my call. It recorded fine and i can play it all back in keynote. But when i convert it to a quicktime file, only the firs 10 minutes come over.......where i paused the narration is where it stops..... Am i doing something wrong since i can get narration over, just not all of it? I have read alot of posts on alternative routes to use but I am not re-recording it since it's 2 hours long! Any help is appreciated!!!!

This is one way of retrieving your narration. It will take a few hours (this will be done in "real time" after all) but it is probably better and safer than trying to re-record the voice track.
You say that you can play the entire narration from within Keynote. That's good. Otherwise, this will not work.
Using an external recording device (a tape recorder, CD recorder, VHS recorder, or whatever) connect the audio output (headphone jack) from your computer to the line-level input of the recorder.
Play the Keynote narration and record it on the external recorder.
Now, reverse the process: Connect the output of the external recorder to the Audio line-level input of your computer. Go to System Preferences > Sound > Input and select Line-In as your audio source. Also adjust the Microphone Input volume to minimum (extreme left).
Now, in Keynote, you should be able to re-record this input as your Narration (or Soundtrack) while playing it back from the external recorder.

Javascript array help needed to generate narrative from checkboxes

For context... the user will indicate symptoms in cardiovascular section, selecting "deny all", if none of the symptoms apply. The narrative sub-form needs to processes diagnosis sub-form and generate text that explains the symptoms in a narrative form. For example, if the user selects "deny all" in the cardiovascular section, the Cardiovascular System Review field would have: "The patient denies: High Blood Pressure, Low Blood Pressure. The logic associated with the narrative needs to account for "deny all" and all the variations of selections.
I have what I think is a pretty good start on the logic, but would like some help with the following:
1) loading selected fields into the cv_1s array
2) loading fields not selected into the cv_0s array
3) generating the narrative
See "phr.narrative.cv_nar::calculate - (JavaScript, client)" for the coding I've done thus far. Feel free to comment on any efficiency opportunities you see. I have a SAS programming background, but I'm new to Javascript. Thanks...

Hi Rob,
One approach would be to give your checkboxes the same name so they can then be referenced as a group and use the caption as the source of your text, so you shouldn't have to duplicate the text and will make it easier to add more later.
Attached is a sample doing that.

Choose system preferences, then under 'Personal' choose 'Universal Access''
You will see a checkbox called 'Voice Over'' (under the seeing tab). Switch this to off.

Need Help recording a narration

Hi,
I am trying to record a narration for a slide show. I have a Sennheiser headset with a mic. I have a gateway tower and the green is pluged into the green and the pink into the pink at the back of the computer. I also have music on the slide show. I have windows vista. I printed out the create a narration instructions but there is no voice sound, I can hear the music. I turn down the music or delete it and still can't hear the voice.
On the audio mixer the little bars don't move so I am asuming nothing has been recorded.
I can't seem to test the mic through windows sound hardward test wizard because i can't find it on the computer. I go into the control panel and can't find anything that says voice.
There is only one choice on the default device menu.
I am doing something wrong here so help

There are four places to look, and I'd do it in this order:
1.) the Windows Sounds control panel, that Steve mentioned. Make sure that levels are up for the proper devices and that Mute is NOT checked in any.
2.) in PE, open up the Audio Mixer in your Project and check the Master buss. Also check each Track's pot and make sure they are not lowered, or muted.
3.) check your Audio Tracks (think that it's Rt-click), and make sure that Bypass is NOT checked. Do this for all Audio Tracks
4.) look in Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware and make sure that nothing has changed there. Then look in ASIO settings and tell us what you have set there. Hint: a screen-cap of these settings will make it easier for all to see what your choices and settings are

Simple Narration Editing Help Needed

Hello,
I am brand new to audio editing and SB. I have recorded a narration. There was a little bit of background noise and the peak levels were a little too high (going into the red a little too often). I selected a piece of the background recording where no narration exists and used the "Capture Noise Print" in the Clean Up Audi0 - Noise panel to get rid of the background noise. Then I "Equalized Volume Level" to take care of the peaking problem. However, now the voice is a little on the tinny side. Can anyone suggest how I can get rid of that tinny sound and bring back the richness? Or perhaps a tutorial?
Any suggestion on how to record with proper levels would be helpful as well.

Did you ever figure this out?
Using the Effect Fix:Remove Hiss seemed to work better, but there is still a significant amount of background noise when no one is talking.
It did seem to help to set the Noise -> Reduction value down to 30 or so using the Preview and Green switch to hear the difference.
I'm still looking for the best workflow to cleanup a group discussion setting and would appreciate anyone else's experience.

How did you save your Timeline content which included the narration clip produced with the project's Narration Tool?
Publish+Share/Computer/ and then what? And, what preset? And, for that preset, did you use the default settings of the preset
or did you customize the preset under its Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab?
What other audio was in the project - any on Audio 1 or Soundtrack? Did you get involved with Smart Mix at all?

Publishing video to f4v format for web pages. My recorded narration doesnt playback when it is done recording? Please desperate for help. really frustrated atm

I am creating a youtube video. I add the media to the file. Record the narration I'd like. Go to publish and share, went down to computer, chose the first one that says adobe flash player f4v file. When its done converting i play the converted file and it doesnt play the recorded audio. Please help really frustrated

Hello, I am using keynote 08 ad I have 20 slides. I put narration on the first 3 slides. When I export them to Quicktime or Flash it only exports the 3 slides that have narration and it doesn't export the remaining 17.. Does anyone know what I need to do? any suggestions?

When using Messages between iPhones with IOS 5 (provided you have in Settings > Messages > iMessage > ON and Receive At > your phone number), your text should appear in a blue bubble because it's delivered by Apple server whereas green is normal SMS delivered by your cell carrier.
If in Messages conversation list you only sees her number instead of her name then there something not configured correctly on her end.
Do you have her contact in your Contacts app? I supposed you do.

Narration/V/O recording help...

I would like to record voice over directly into FCP, I have the mics to do this, the mics are standard XLR (I'm sure I need some kind of an adapter) however I'm not sure how to plug it into to the tower itself, to record. I know FCP has a Voice Over record program, I just haven't played around with that yet. I'm sure this is very easy but I'm fairly new to post with FCP. I've got the Dual 2.7Ghz Tower.

you'll need an audio interface of some kind as your mac does not have a mic level input, a simple mic preamp would suffice, there are also xlr->usb adapters and such like ... i like (and use) the hugely expensive usbpre from sounddevices

I just got my iPod 5, and there's a bunch of problems. I locked it by accident, and the Voiceover won't stop narrating every action I make, and th double tap misunderstood my preferred password. I don't know how to get onto iTunes. SOMEONE HELP

Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:

Opportunity Product Revenue report using Narrative option

Hi,
I have created quote report using "Opportunity product revenue report" with the use of narrative option and its working fine but the problem here is if opportunity has multiple product revenue items it shows in multiple quotes. For me it should show in a same quotation if there are multiple opportunity product revenue items in a opportunity. Could anyone help me how can i achieve this.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
