NAS Drive that Works ?

Hello all
well I dont think my Buffalo Terastation will ever work with Mountain Lion as its SMBV1
Can I ask ? If your NAS is working and you can access shared drives through finder ; please can you tell me what you have ??
Also if it works with time machine or not would be great ....
There must be loads of us out there who has lost their NAS drives
Im just going to have to buy a new one !
Steve

Using a Synology Diskstation DS110J. Works like a charm with Mountain Lion (including 10.8.1). Running Diskstation Management Software 4. When turn on Western Digital TVLive box, media from the Diskstation shows up in Audio and Video menus on that device. Sit in my living room and smoothly stream videos from Diskstation to iPad-1 via 5Ghz 802.11n.

  • I have a Seagate Slim Portable 500 GB USB 3.0 external hard drive that worked great with my Macbook Pro 13" Retina but gets ejected and won't show files on any iMac.

I have a Seagate Slim Portable 500 GB USB 3.0 external hard drive that worked great with my Macbook Pro 13" Retina but gets ejected and won't show files on any iMac. My Macbook Pro and the two different iMacs I tried it on were all using Mountain Lion, so the only difference was the iMac versus Macbook Pro.

I just tried this, no luck...
I connected a different USB cable, still the same problem. Tried both cables with the problematic hard drive on two different computers, still the same problem.
At this point I assume I'll probably need professional help in saving the files, thanks for the assistance.

  • I have a new USB thumb drive that works in my 2010 iMac but not in my 2012 MacBook Pro

Today I purchased an 'autodrive' usb thumbdrive at Staples.  The drive works fine on my mid 2010 iMac, and my Asus Netbook running Windows 7.  However, it is not recognized at all by System Information or Disk Utility on my mid 2012 Macbook Pro.  Both Macs are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
If I connect my 2 year old SanDisk USB thumb drive to the same USB port on my Macbook Pro, it is immediately recognized and a finder window opens.  The SanDisk drive is also recognized properly by the iMac and the Netbook.
Is there any way to further debug this issue to get a better idea of why the device is not being recognized by the Macbook Pro?
    Thanks,
    -Scott

I am having this exact same problem with my New MBP 15" quad core 2.6GHz i7 on 10.8.2.  I have other thumb drives that work, but an older thumb drive that works on my prior MBP 15" 2.7GHz dual core i7 on 10.7 and XP and Windows 8 laptops isn't recognized at all by the newer MBP.   This thumbdrive is only 256MB and may be USB 1, but USB 1 stuff should work on a USB3 interface unless it's a bug.  I've freshly formatted the drive and tested it with disk utility on the older MBP, so it's an issue with the newer Mac's USB controller or MacOS 10.8.2
    I suspect a bug.

  • Does anyone have a USB powered external hard drive that works?

I bought a really slick USB powered hard drive to take with me when I travel. The whole reason for purchase is to have it power off the laptop. It works on all the Windows machines, but my Mac doesn't even know the drive exists unless I first plug it into a powered USB hub. If I plug it directly into the USB port on the laptop, nada-zip-zilch.
This doesn't fit the plan I had.
Any help? Anyone need a slick little hard drive? 8-)

Hi Kitty, I have a lacie porsche designed drive that works with out a hub, but it needs to use two usb ports to mount on the mac. not ideal but portable enough for me

  • IMac keeps trying to connect to a NAS drive that I have turned off.

I couldn't find any other thread on this so:
I have a NAS drive (Buffalo Linkstation) on my network at home. I only use it for photos and music storage so turn it off when not in use (the auto setting doesn't work so this is the only option).
Only problem is when it's off my Mac keeps telling me "there's a problem connecting to the server......". Every time I hit OK, it reappears 15-20 seconds later.
As you can imagine it gets pretty annoying. I cannot beleive there isn't an 'ignore' or 'dont show again' setting for option this.
Anyone know how to disable it? I don't really want to remove the drive from my shared network, I just want to get rid of the message popping up all the time.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I have other Volumes set to be Mounted when the iMac is started listed in System Preferences> Users and Groups > Login item for My account
Obviously they can be in /Library/StartupItems for everyone to see.
I also have an app called muCommander that is likely to do it if I used the Mac User Account > Login items or the Start Up items method. (I do have a NAS drive here as well).

  • NAS Drive not working

    Hi,
Just upgraded to Leopard today, and since doing it I have not been able to access my NAS drive. It appears in finder under shared drives, but I am unable to access it, any suggestions?
    Bob.

I have run into a similar problem here as well. Running a micronet PlatinumNAS and it was working fine in Tiger. Today after upgrading, I cannot access the SMB shares at all. If I attempt to connect thorugh "connect to server" in the finder and type the SMB address, it attempts to connect then fails after a minute stating:
"Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again"
I click OK on the error with no other options and then get this error:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "It gives my SMB address here" could not be rear or written.
    (Error code -36)"
According to Apple, error -36 is an I/O error. So now I am really confused.
I have attempted to show mounted drives on my desktop as suggested by 127.0.0.1 above in the finder prefs. Nothing doing there. File sharing is on as well, although that should not matter.
In Tiger, in the Finder window I would see the workgroups that I could browse. Now with the shared side bar option, it shows machines in the office I can access, but not the workgroups. I used to access the NAS by going to Network, selecting the workgroup it was in and the picking the NAS. Then the system would ask which drive and ask for the password. Then the drive would mount. Now none of that is even an option.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can someone recommend a NAS device that works well with Macs?

I need to have a NAS (network attached storage) device that can be freely accessed by windows and mac computers. I rashly purchased an HP Mediavault; it was only $300 and has 2 500GB drives that I configured as raid-1 for safety. however if I load up a folder with 4000 files in it and browse to that directory, the mac finder thinks about this for say 30 seconds before it lists the files. The Windows machine can view the files in perhaps 4 seconds. I know that Macs have a slow file system but watching the little light blink on the NAS box and waiting so long is getting real annoying. Has anyone found a box that works well with macs and has good performance? These devices are so cheap now they must have crappy processors and stupid firmware. Perhaps someone can recommend a model that has some snap. I also need remote access via the web, and the insane HP software can only upload single files, can't upload a folder, which when you are working with 30,000 files like I am is no fun at all!

It's not really the brand as it is available printer drivers. Just be sure you verify that there is an available OS X printer driver.
OS X- Printer and scanner software available for download
Check the manufacturer's website for available printer drivers for any model in which you are interested.

  • Is there a NAS box that works well with OSX

I've always struggled with NAS boxes & OSX.  Sure, I can connect them up, and copy files to and from a mac, but eventually I always seem to run into issues.  Suddenly I can no longer access the files, or I can no longer connect at all, or it fails to connect with a specific user, etc.   I end up grovelling around support forums, typing sudo this & sudo that and eventually I can access the files again - until the next time.  They seeem to be more trouble than they are worth.  At least for me.  I've had these problems with Leopard, Snow Leopard & now with Lion.
I've got a macbook pro that only I use, plus an iMac that all the family use (including me).  What I want to be able to do is to have a NAS box set up with a private share for each member of the family that only they can access, plus a public share that everyone can copy files to and from.
I want to be able to access the public share from both computers at the same time.
Suppose my wife is logged on on the iMac, and she's streaming a movie from the public share using iTunes to the ATV2.  I want to be able to fast-user-switch to my account & access the files in the public share, and also my private share.
I want to be able to access files on my private share from both my macbook pro and the iMac.  At the same time.
I want family members to be able to access their private shares, and also the public share from their Windows laptops as well as the iMac.
I can't see the problem with doing these things.  As long as permissions a managed by the NAS box not the individual pcs & macs it should be easy.  But of course it isn't!
Does anyone run this sort of setup, where it works seamlessly?  If so, what sort of NAS box are you using?
If not, maybe the way to go would be to get a Mac Mini and set it up with Lion Server as a file server.  Would that work better?

You're welcome - make sure you follow Epson's instructions when you get it; don't know if they've changed it, but about 2 years ago, I had to connect it via USB first before connecting it wirelessly; also had to get the MAC address via the setup on the LCD panel so the router could recognize it.
Some of that has gotten easier/automatic with Lion, so just be sure you follow whatever the quick setup sheet says. Their support is pretty good, they usually respond within a reasonable amount of time.

  • External optical drive that works?

Hi,  I have had an Imac 27 i5, its 3 weeks old now, I did the free Lion os upgrade before realising that Lion seems to be buggy.
I have had problems some of which I have got over thanks to this forum, some I have not  I still cant get my isp set-up working but a work-around is giving me service, the wireless connection drops out regularly but using ethernet works. Mail wont send my emails and Itunes is problematic.   The bluetooth trackpad, mouse and keyboard disconnects frequently but thankfully reconnects soon after. Neither of my two existing external hard drives or my external optical drive would work on this Imac,  I replaced one hard drive and that works now,  but tells me that I have 120gb free on a drive that is only 120gb and has a full Time machine backup on it?). I replaced the optical drive with a very cheap one and that works now.
My old optical drive used Llitescribe and I really want to carry on using it with the Imac,  Can any of you guys recommend an optical drive with Litescribe that will work with the Imac and os Lion?  I am getting tired of having to spend out money replacing things I expected to work with the Mac and dont!
I brought the Imac because I wanted a hassle free computer, I read and took in all the reasons for using Mac over Microsoft and to be hounest with you the Last 3 weeks have nearly driven me to send the Imac back!   I expected it to "just work"  and be easier to use but it has not turned out that way for me up to now,  I have contacted Apple about the problems and they dont seem to be of very much help - up to now, but thanks to you guys and this forum I am getting things sorted, slowly.  Apple need to get thier act together I think!  What hurts the most is that my 3 year old £600.00. HP PC with windows 7 worked "out of the box" and has "just worked" to this day!  I cannot say that about the £1650.00. Imac!

The external Apple superdrives are compatible only with the Macs that did not come with an internal optical drive.  Take it back and get a 3rd party drive, preferably one with drawer loading.  I have an 2011 iMac and bought this external drive:  24X OWC Mercury Pro.  I do a lot of ripping of audiobooks for my iPhone so wanted one with a faster read throughput than USB 2 which is all my iMac has. So I use the FW port on the drive.
OWC is a very well know Mac supplier and has excellent reputation both for item quality and customer support.

  • Canon i9900 color inkjet printer. Photos are printing with colors wrong. Is there a driver that works?

I'm using a new MacBook Pro/Mavericks and a Canon i9900 color ink jet photo printer. The colors are printing all wrong, it almost looks like a negative. Printing directly from the Canon 6D photos print just fine. Is there a work around for this? Canon says it's Apple's driver that is the problem. I've tried printing from PhotoMatrix Pro, Photoshop CC, PhotoElements CC, Preview, and all kinds of software but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions out there?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but a printer must be consuming a little electricity for it to sense and respond to a command to turn on and print. Therefore, I suggest you forget buying a new printer with this feature and simply leave the printer you already have on all the time.
    Just a thought!

  • Anyone have USB drive that works 100%?

  • Kismac worked on 10.6 and not on 10.7, how can i reload the driver that works, the whole reason i have a Mac is for corporate network security testing?

With the upgrade to Lion Kismac has stopped working. The application worked fine with Snow Leopard, is there a driver patch to correct this behavior or revert the driver to one that worked?
    Thank you

Yes OS X was updated. Now you need to make sure you have a version of the software tha'll work with it. Check with the vendor, follow QuickTimeKirks' link.

  • Is there a Labview Chroma6310 driver that works with serial port instead of GPIB?

The driver that I have downloaded from NI site is based on GPIB, I need to run it via serial port. I don't have GPIB board. I am pretty new in NI world. How easily can I convert the GPIB driver to serial port (ASRL)? Has anybody already done this? Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Farsh

I haven't looked at the driver and I'm not familiar with the instrument but the conversion should be pretty simple. If it uses VISA for the GPIB communication, the conversion is already done. VISA works with both GPIB and serial - just use the name of the serial port as the VISA reference name. This would be ASRL1 or Com1. If it's an older driver with the traditional GPIB calls, then replace every instance of GPIB Write and GPIB Read with VISA Write and VISA Read. You might also have to add some line terminator like CR/LF to every write. There are a lot of instrument drivers that are compatible with both serial and GPIB. The HP34970 is one that comes to mind. You might want to look at it to see how to do it yourself.

  • Wanted: 1 TB drive that works with the Airport Extreme (802.11n)

My apologies if this is on here somewhere, but I've searched this forum and googled around quite a bit.
I'd like to connect an external 1 TB hard drive to my new Airport Extreme's USB port.
I have found plenty of info on drives that don't seem to work.
I can add that the drive I purchased (1TB Cavalry CAUM series) does not work.
Can anyone chime in with a 1 TB drive that has been working for at least a few weeks?
    Thanks!

According to their website, the NewerTech miniStack should work too.
It has the advantage of having a built in USB hub to attach other devices(i.e.a printer.)
