Nat Type question for PS3 (wrt610N)

I have the wrt610N on cable internet and am playing Modern Warefare 2 on the PS3. Since day 1 I have had a Type 2 Nat type according to the PS3's internet connection test.  Modern Warfare 2 has a Nat Type indicator on the lobby screen and mine has always said Moderate.
Well, after a little research, I forwarded my ports and presto, it said my NAt type was open. Yesterday I accidently unplugged the router and now my lobby screen is saying moderate again.  My ports are still forwarded, so I have no idea what is going on.  Any ideas?
Someone suggested that I can just go in the router and set it to open, but this does not sound right.  Also, I was reading some posts on here and noticed people mentioning something about home network defender in the management tab.  I have no such option.  Anyone know why?

how to change nat type 3 to nat type 2 for adaptation 4? i am havng a complicated time with this im'm just trying to play online and been at it fotr 3 days i have tried about everuyhing n portforwarding.com i have a Cisco Linksys E1000

Hi ceasar14. I actually found some steps (from a source) that worked for me. I'm not sure if it will work for you. Here are the steps:
    1. Get the MAC address of your PS3. To find your MAC address simply go to
Settings > System Settings > System Information
    2. Assign a static IP address on your PS3.
    3. Access your router's user interface to open a few ports.
    4. Under Applications and Gaming > Port Range Forwarding, open the following ports:
    TCP: 80, 443, 5223
    UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658
    5. Once this is done, powercycle your PS3 and the router.
    6. Run a connection test and check if it is now on NAT2.
    Good luck.

yea I called my ISP yesterday and explained my problem they said that they do not block any ports at all so it cant be from them anyway because i used to have a nat 2 then i reset my router which made it back to nat 3 so i know that it is possible o get it its just the router's screwing something up. I contacted link sys via phone and i explained my problem to the lady, she said she doesn't have enough authority to go into my router's settings but she can transfer me to that department, i say SURE but then she interrupts and tell me theres a fine of like $25 just for talking to them im like "yea, ill go look and see if theres a solution anywhere else"
so im definately not getting any help from link sys at the moment unless one of you guys wanna give me 25 bucks.
please though, is there anything that may be incorrect? i know it has something to do with the router but even though i tried everything everyone has said it still wont work please help!!!

  • NAT TYPE 3 on PS3 using BT HOME HUB

Recently I have noticed that my NAT Type has changed from OPEN to STRICT on my PS3. This is causing problems when connecting to online games. Quite often I will not be able to connect to game, friends will not be able to connect to me if I am host and also I get signed off the PSN network randomly. This has only started happening recently.
I have read about this on other threads and it appears to be a problem with the BT HOME HUB. I have the older white version (not sure what model type).
Can anyone advise if BT intend to address this common problem with connecting to online games through a BT Home Hub?
It would appear that obtaining  NAT Type 2 from NAT Type 3 can be quite a tricky process. Again I would be grateful if anyone has any advice on how to do this and whether ti is worth trying.
If this issue is not resolved soon I may have to consider if I will renew my contract with BT as it would appear it is a recent upgrade to the BT Home Hub that has caused the problem.
I did not have any major connection issues until recently.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

try this mate,it was for my old bt205 but when i got my first hub i had to use these settings also.oh and another 1 to look for is in your hub settings 192.168.1.254 then go in to advanced settings and look at your network ( have your xbox on ) your hub should list the things connected to it,now pick the xboxlive from the dropdown box and pair it up this should always give you open nat,if it goes strict again unplug router/hub power line for 2 mins then reboot and reboot your 360.

  • NAT Type for PS3

My PS3 tells me I have a "Strict" NAT type and it has limited my gameplay. What do I do to make it open? It would really help.

  • PS3 NAT Type

Hi there, anyone have a guide how to open up the NAT type on the PS3 with the HH4, on the main settings/test on the PS3 this is type 2 - used to be type 1 with my old provider. When using COD the NAT is set to moderate. this used to be open, before i got the HH4.
I also set the IP address in the router to static with no success.
    Many thanks

I'm not sure how to set up my modem in "pure bridge" mode
Broadband ADSL2+ Modem DM111PSP User Manual - Netgear
Please refer to item #3 on page 13 and also Page 64 in the User Manual, which explain how to do this.
You must configure the modem in Bridge Mode or "Modem Mode" first and then configure the AirPort Extreme to connect using PPPoE. Enter your user name, password, etc., in the AirPort Utility setup, but leave the Service Name area completely blank. Connection should be "Always On" and Disconnect if Idle should be "Never".
You cannot configure the AirPort Exteme to connect using PPPoE unless you first configure the modem in pure bridge mode, or "modem mode".
This is the only way to obtain "Open NAT" using this modem and the AirPort Extreme.

  • NAT type, wrt45g

Can anyone help me change the nat type on my ps3? im not quite sure what settings to change with the router, and im pretty sure thats the problem since my old belkin router was type 2.

I found this link on the forum which will guide to open the NAT for PS3.
You also want to upgrade the firmware on your router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router and go to Administration tab. Click on firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and upgrade it on your router.

  • Nat Type

Hello. A have a problem with NAT TYPE on my ps3. I've got a moderate. How to fix this problem? How open nat type? Help please !!

hmm just typed this out in another thread but i guess it applies here too .
what i do for xbox live is manually set the xbox ip and dns servers in the xbox network settings.
then on the modem router (i use a draytek but i am guessing there must be a setting in the homehub3) i set that xbox ip to dmz.  this means the xbox gets an open nat type in all games.
also all my clan mates always make me host in modern warfare 3.  green bars and good hit registration all round.  gotta love that infinity upload right .

  • Trying to change NAT type to open from strict

I'm trying to change my NAT type on my PS3 from strict to open. My router is a WRT120N and I'm using cable internet. Please help me, and sort of dumb it down so I can understand what you're saying. Thanks a ton!!
    fake watches

i think strict NAT type is a double-NAT setup. it would really depend on your modem. what's the brand and model of your modem? does it have routing capabilities? what IP address does it give off?

  • How to set NAT Type in Airport Express for PS3

I just replaced my existing WiFi router with a Airport Express, using the same log in information, and all other devices includin iPhone and laptop can get on line w/o problem, but my PS3 can not seems to log in for on-line game, and when I check the internet connection settings, it show NAT type failed due to timeout error. I have read some articles about the need to change NAT Type from 3 to 2 or something like that, how can not find in Airport Utilities on how to open up NAT to change its type? anyone can help? Appreciate.

Unfortunately there are no specific NAT settings on the AirPort routers to change the NAT type. On the AirPorts you either have NAT enabled or disabled. Other options would be to use either a DMZ or open specific ports on the AirPort's NAT firewall to allow your PS3 to gain full access to  PS3's on-line gaming service.

  • Cant get open nat type for PS3, it use to be but wont go back

im on Fios with the verizon router. I had the DMZ set to an ip with the PS3 also on it. the nat type was open and all was ok. I dont know how long its been this way (guessing not long because I have sucked at COD this week!) but I noticed im not at moderate. I checked the DMZ and the ip was still there. looked at PS3 and it was empty for some reason, so I put the ip back. ive restarted and tried other IPs andit will not go back to open. ive looked at youtube tutorials to be sure that im not missing anything but the vids seem tobe older because I have more options on the router settings than what the vids show, guess I have newer firmware. Any suggestions?

actually, Open is what you want. you have a lot better preformance online when dealing with fast paced games like COD. you will really notice a difference. generally you just designate an IP in the DMZ settings of the router, then tell the PS3 to only use that IP, and thats it. just seems now on my end thats no longer the case and cant get it to go

  • Amazon Q&A - E3200 - Default Nat Type for xbox 360 and ps3

    Linksys E3200 High-Performance Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router
the nat type for xbox 360 and ps3, what is it when you set the router up out of the box? are the nat types open moderate or strict

Hi there. It actually depends if the gaming consoles ports are not blocked by your ISP. Moderate NAT type limits your connection playing online games, Strict does not allow you any connection at all while Open allows you to play with everyone online. Have you had a router before with Open NAT on the gaming consoles? Try to check without the router by going directly to the modem and see if your NAT type is open or strict or moderate. If ever modem is fine and it is the router not working right you can port forward ports on the router. I found these usual ports online, for XBOX live:TCP and UDP ports:  80-88, 3074-3074, 4267-4269. For PS380, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.

  • Changing NAT type from moderate to open for PS3 on...

    Hello,
    Pretty simple really.
I want to be able to change my NAT type from Moderate to Open whilst playing FIFA 12 on the PS3.
I am using a BT Home Hub 2. I have read various posts about Port Forwarding and DMZ but what is the method that will open the NAT type indefinitely. I have read that it can only be altered temporarily due to the Home Hub updating it's settings periodically and re-enabling the firewall.
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. Take a look here for some information on port forwarding. I've also found this whcih you might find useful. Let me know if it helps.
    Cheers
