National Instrument Software Crashing VXI Processor

Everytime I work with MAX v3.0 the Windows 2000 based VXIPC-872B that I have crashes. Upon recovery, the Event Viewer says that " The computer has recovered from a bugcheck located at 0x00000076 (0x00000000, 0x822df8e0, 0x00000001, 0x00000000) Microsoft Windows v15.2195 ..." It goes on to say that a memory dump has occured. What is causing this? How can I fix this problem?

Hitman-
The 872B is a normal PC in a different form factor. So the fact that it is VXI is not going to cause this problem. Have you already tried repairing your MAX installation? It is possible if there was an error during the initial installation that something like this might occur. What hardware are you using with the VXI Chassis? Does this problem occur even when the chassis is empty? Sometimes these types of problems occur when HW conflicts are present.
I hope this helps. If you are still seeing the problem, let me know which other NI drivers you are using, and specifically, which one installed MAX 3.0 that you are using.

  • Why can't national instruments software recognize my CEC GPIB card.

I am trying to use national instruments software with a plug and play cec (Capitol Equipment) PCI GPIB card. The device shows up (as working properly) in device manager. I also downloaded and installed new drivers from the CEC website. However National Instruments software does not recognize the card's existance.

What NI software are you trying to use and what drivers from CEC did you install? Low level NI functions like ibwrt, ibrd, or LabVIEW GPIB functions only work with NI boards. If CEC provides a VISA installation, you should be able to use that and NI VISA calls. Otherwise, you'll have to use the CEC functions.

  • What exactly do the national instruments citadel nt service and the lookout citadel nt service run

We have WhatsUp monitoring software set to monitor NI Lookout and the PC it is on.  It pings the PC, and polls the Lookout Citadel Server NT service.  If either one fails, WhatsUp sends an email notification.  I was under the impression if the Lookout Citadel Server service is down, then NI Lookout won't graph or record data, but that's not the case.  If I shut Lookout Citadel Server or National Instruments Citadel Server down, NI Lookout still graphs and records.  What exactly do these two services run?
Also, is there a possibility that NI Lookout can be viewed through palm OS software, like a Blackberry?

Lookout Citadel Server is for Citadel 4, which is used by Lookout 5 and DSC 7.
NI Citadel is for Citadel 5, used by Lookout 6 and DSC 8.
If Citadel is stopped, Lookout will start it up automatically when launched. But if Citadel is stopped when Lookout is running, there might be some unexpected issues, although the data logging seems to be working well.
So I strongely recommend you not to stop those Citadel service when Lookout is running.
Lookout cannot be running on palm OS.

When you try to determine whether Real-Time RTX can coexist with
Windows, National Instruments directs you to a Citrix Web Page for
evaluation software. At Citrix's Web Page I couldn't find any
evaluation software but the page mentions ETS And RTX versions of the
Real-Time software. I also concluded Phar Lap was the original
developer of the Real Time software. It appears Phar Lap was owed by
Venturcom and then Citrix bought Venturcom. Phar Lap dates back to the
19 eighties when PCs were first becoming popular

  • Connecting OPCUDS 2.5 to National Instruments' LabVIEW

Has anyone had to work with National Instruments' LabVIEW OPC server and succesfully connected to it via the UDS 2.5?
Currently trying to achieve this and am having major issues with the UDS crashing the LabVIEW service everytime it is started.
    Thank You!

No experience but it could be because of a large volume of Tags on the server.
What about any other OPC client?
I had a nearly similar experience with RSLinx when the UDS seemed to stop responding everytime we started it (it did not affect the OPC server though) and finally what we found was, all the UDS needed was some time to actually establish the connection because of the large number of Tags on the server.

  • Does National Instruments produce a DAQ equivalent of an electronic load for fuel cell testing?

I am trying to consider my options before purchasing an electronic load. I would like to use LabView software to record and analyze my data that I will be generating during fuel cell testing. I was just wondering if National Instruments produced an instrument similar to an electronic load or a couple instruments that could work in combination similarly to an electronic load. I have looked through the available DAQ instruments on the NI website and it seems that they all output signals too low for my application. The fuel cell I will be using outputs voltage from 0-2VDC and current from 0-4A. I understand the internal workings of an electronic load and realize that the best option would be to implement some sort of variable resistor to act as the load in my circuit, then use DAQ instruments to measure current and voltage respectively. The problem is that the range of my current, especially, is much larger than any allowable input range for any NI DAQ instruments.
Any input would be much appreciated. Also if you have developed a testing system for fuel cells or other low power DC sources, please share any knowledge and information about how you went about designing your system.
    Thanks

We used a DC Programmable Electronic Load from AMREL.
WE used GPIB to talk to each of them The loads ley us set constant current/voltage and let us query the current values etc.

    Hi,
MAX is a program from NI, to configure and test NI boards, it is not meant to use with boards from another manufacturers.
You should use tools that should be available from your board manufacturer.

  • Why Does My Mac Software Crash?

I'm a new Mac user (I converted to Mac after 15 years of torment on a Windows PC just two weeks ago). It's the 20" Intel iMac with 512MB Ram. I've installed just 3 third-party applications on here (Microsoft Messenger, Google Earth and Skype). I've also installed some widgets from the Apple.com website. I also updated the Mac when I first got it, so it's all up to date. Just for reference, I usually always have Messenger open when I connect to the internet.
The only problem is, a few applications have crashed a few times. It first happended on Safari whilst browsing the web. It also happened on Pages (the bought version) and then again on iDVD and iMovie HD. The applications just shut down, and brought up a box asking me if I wanted to either reload the app or send a message to Apple about this.
A few people have said it might be due to the fact that Messenger is the only app I am running that is still using the PowerPC code. Messenger has been open every time these other apps were running - I am 99.9% sure of it.
I just wanted some advice from more experienced Mac users. The reason I upgraded to Mac was to get away from petty things like software crashes...
    Many thanks.
    Intel iMac (20")   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    Intel iMac (20")   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Well, one other thing I have noticed, and being a new
Mac user I am not sure if this is normal, but when I
first load an application up (say Safari), the Dock
animations are not as smooth, they are a little bit
jumpy. This also happens if there is more than a few
apps running - though I just put this down to a busy
CPU or the fact that I only have the standard 512MB
    Ram.
I think we might be getting to the root of the problem here; if you're using a PowerPC app under Rosetta, it will suck up an awful lot of RAM. From what I have read, an iMac with 512MB is like a different computer compared to an iMac with 1GB+. You should really consider purchasing some more RAM; I don't know why Apple even bother shipping Macs with less than a GB as standard.
If you want an instant messaging app that is a Universal Binary (i.e. compatible with Intel processors), check out the excellent (and free) Adium. It can connect to MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, Jabber, ICQ, and more.
Also, something else I wanted to ask if I may. When I
downloaded the system updates via the Apple logo on
the menu bar, something a little strange happened
when it got round to installing the firmware update.
The system had to restart, but as the Apple logo
appeared on-screen, the fans inside kicked into the
highest of high gears - it made a really loud noise,
as if spinning five times faster than usual. Now,
everytime I power the machine up, the fans give a
little 'growl' as it boots (but this only lasts for a
fraction of a second, and its only maybe twice as
loud as the fans would normally be). I just thought
I'd ask if this was normal behavior. Again, being a
new Mac user I am finding I have to re-learn a few
    things, hehe.
Yes, this is all normal behaviour (at least I hope it is, because my iMac does it too! lol).
What do you mean by create another account? I have
yet to fully explore my Mac's more exotic features.
By the way, this doesnt happen every day. It has now
been a few days since it last happened.
If you're having a problem with your Mac, it can sometimes be beneficial to go to System Preferences > Accounts, and create a new user account. If the problem exists on the new account too, then it is a system-wide problem; if it doesn't occur, then it is likely something in the original account (such as a corrupted preference file) is causing the problem, and it rules out a hardware fault.
It's just a process of elimination that can help narrow down the list of possibilities, but I think Rosetta is the cause of your problems. Try out Adium and see if that makes things any better.

Dead, as in a black screen and the red LED blinks?
If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • IMac issues: Overheating, Software Crashing, Screen Burn

    To whomever is helpful,
My 24" iMac, early 2008 model has been experiencing problems that have gotten progressively worse over the past three months. The iMac began to heat up more than usual, and it's gotten hotter progressively over that course. The iMac is almost unusable after thirty minutes unless the screen brightness is turned down as low as possible. Software crashes, everything from advanced programs such as the Adobe suite, and the Chrome web browser which is not supposed to tax the memory very much, if at all. I have 4 gigs of RAM installed, and I believe the issue is heat related. As a sidenote, if the iMac gets hot enough, there is screen burn when moving application windows, and they disappear only after 10 minutes in sleep mode.
In my mind, all of this is abnormal, and earlier today I tok my iMac to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store, and the Genius didn't spend five minutes diagnosing my problems likely because there was a long line of people waiting. All he told me was to go home and run Activity Monitor and Disk Utility to see if there's a problem, and also to reinstall the operating system and the applications that crash. I've tried that, and as expected it didn't do anything, and I'm wondering if anyone has insight that could be of use, and if maybe I should send my iMac to AppleCare for them to look at it. Any help would be greatly appreciated appreciated.
    Regards,
    -Chad

Chad, very sorry to hear of your problems.
If your Mac is still under warranty (sounds like it might be) I'd suggest the following.
Call Apple, and politely request they send a warranty tech to your location to address the issue.
Ask that the tech come prepared to replace your Mac if they are unable to fix it.
Although I am not an expert, this doesn't sound like a problem you could have caused. If you didn't break it, you shouldn't have to be involved in fixing it. You paid good money for a product, and you deserve to have it.
Again, I'm assuming you're still under warranty.
If you decide to try this, I hope you'll report how it works out for you, so we can learn from your experience. Thanks, and good luck!
