Nationwide Recall on IPODS

I Just found out from technical support that Ipods only have a LIFE EXPECTANCY of 3yrs-4yrs.. I havent used it that much because soon after i bought the ipod, I was given an IPAD as a gift. At the time I had purchased the Ipod for around $200 canadian thinking this will be the new approach of music listening on the go. So speaking to technical support they said that its better just to buy a new IPOD since this one's battery had died. Im not sure if this is a product for me if they cant guarantee a good quality product. Yes i do understand that batteries die but im hoping to get alot more life out of my IPOD for $200.. I have a cd walkmen and tapewalkmen that if i put two AA batteries in it it will work guaranteed... Why is there not a RECALL on all IPODS? they should have already known this was a problem and should have corrected it. Should i buy a new IPOD for $249.00? and why should i buy a IPHONE if they look simular to the IPOD? if its built the same i dont want to spend $800 on a phone and only get 3-4 yrs out of it...

Just what di Apple support say?
Batteries have a finite life.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79
A third-party place like the following will replace your batter for less. Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. You can purchase a replacment for about $10

  • What do I do if apple recalled my iPod Nano but never sent back the replacement Nano?

They sent me the empty box just fine, but now they say the can't send me the replacement cause I don't live in the UK.
If I can't get service in israel from apple, why did I get an empty?!
Tottaly unreliable. - I sent my iPod six months ago...lucky they didn't steal, I mean recalled my iPhone.
I won't buy apple gadgets anymore. Hope Samsung service is better.
Goodbye Nano, it was fun while it lasted...I now replaced you with ebay goodies - 8GB MP3 cost me less then 10$... I bought two.

I emailed with them, as oddly, there is no customer service number for Israel
Got the below reply (He was actually really nice, but he couldn't help):
Thank you for selecting AppleCare Service to repair your Apple product.

  • IPod recall: US iPod sent off in the UK - Volume capped upon return?

As the subject says, my iPod was purchased in the US and I am based in the UK and as I understand it if I send it off to be repaired I won't be getting the same one back so does that mean I'll be getting an EU volume capped one? Cus that would be sucky!

Based on this link, Apple doesn't send anything automatically without it being requested.

I can't find a phone number that relates to this directly, but you can try calling AppleCare to determine where to contact. If you didn't make a copy of the return info with the iPod's serial number at a minimum, you will probably have a hard time running this down.

  • Can't Restore Ipod...error message

I presume I need to restore my 5th gen Ipod as I can't sync it with itunes. However I also can't restore it.
I get a 1418 error message, also had a -50 error message too.
It has worked once since i got it, i synced it with a mates computer. But I can't get it to sync with my new comp at all.
This is very frustrating as i've not been albe to use it at all. Its just a pretty external hard drive at the mo!
I take it formatting it with windows would be a very bad idea?

I HAVE A 20G IPOD THAT IS 1YEAR AND 10 MONTHS OLD. IT WILL NOT RESTORE ANYLONGER AND SHOWS THE SAD IPOD ICON. I WANTED TO SEND IT IN FOR REPAIRS BUT BECAUSE IT IS PAST THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY ALL IPOD WILL DO FOR ME IS SELL ME A REFURBISHED IPOD FOR $271.94. IPOD SHOULD RECALL THE IPODS THAT ARE FREEZING AND SKIPPING SONGS THAT ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO BE RESTORED. I CANNOT FIND ANYONE TO REPAIR MY IPOD OTHER THAN APPLE JUST WANTING ME TO BUY A REFURBISHED ONE THAT COSTS ABOUT $30 LESS THAN THE BRAND NEW ONE I BOUGHT 1YEAR AND 10 MONTHS AGO. I AM VERY DISSAPPOINTED WITH APPLE IPOD AND I WILL NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN.

  • My Ipod Nano has frozen, cannot be recognised by PC or Windows+wont charge!

I got my Ipod Nano christmas day and it worked perfectly- no problems at all. I came home boxing day, and charged it on PC ( all the itunes were installed) and it worked fine. The day after (today 27th) I used it around 9 O'clock in the morning, it worked perfectly and charged fine. I left it on my bed and went out about 11 O'Clock. I came back around 3 O'Clock and it wouldn't work. It won't switch on, charge up, and my PC and Windows doesn't even acknowledge it when i plug in the USB port. I have tried all my USB ports, pressing the buttons simoutaenously like it mentions in the support, but nothing!
I have no idea what to do! Can anyone help at all please! Thankyou x

I'm having this problem, as well.
I got my iPod Nano 4GB back in May and it worked for about two months. I then stopped using it for about three months or so. I wanted to use it this past week and I'm having the exact same problems that are listed above.
A message comes up on my iPod with the support URL on the Apple website (http://apple.com/support) and that's all that appears (I've tried to restart and charge it both by computer and charger, but the same message appears). After plugging it into the computer, the iTunes program registers the iPod but, after unplugging it from the computer, the support message reappears.
I've gone to the support link and tried everything on it, but nothing changes and the message still appears.
After pressing the centre and play buttons on the iPod, a new message appears. On the top of the screen, it says "Disk Mode" with a half-full bar on the right, where it usually is (but the bar was completely empty earlier today, for whatever reason). In the centre of the screen is a checkmark with "OK to Disconnect" underneath it. When this screen appears (and the screen doesn't light up when this message comes up), I can't get rid of it, until I plug the iPod into the charger. Once again, the support message comes up.
I really don't know what to do, but I've seen several messages similar to this problem throughout the Apple support forums. I agree with Sporky that, if these problems keep on occuring, they should recall these iPods.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

  • Folder w/ Exclamation Point + Itunes fails to recognize Ipod

About two weeks ago, my Ipod began to act silly by apparently not being able to read certain tracks sort of like when a CD player cannot read a scratched CD. (Note I have never encountered this problem before and the Ipod functioned without any problems just the previous day). When it could not play a track, it would automatically skip to the next track to see if it could play that one. It did not matter what album or artist I was attempting to play.
Then, the Ipod began to hesitate to turn on occasionally. The infamous folder with an exclamation point would pop on the screen, especially after I would reset the Ipod and have seen the apple picture.
The final conflict exists in my Itunes program being unable to recognize I had plugged my Ipod into the computer. (Maybe the Ipod could not read the computer, I have no idea). I have Itunes version 4.7 and I have just installed 4.9 which I am about to try. I shall post an update if my Ipod then works with 4.9.
Otherwise, please help me! What is wrong with my Ipod?

    To all:
You need to restore your ipod so it like it was when you received it. Then you need to instal the new version of the updater and itunes. Connect your ipod and it should take you through the process. Registering and all.
If all fails, seriously consider returning it to apple. If you still have the warranty. If this your second return under the warranty you'll actually have to pay money (around $30) If you don't have a warranty I think you can get it fixed but it will cost you a lot of money. Try getting a quote if its too expensive, consider selling on ebay and getting a way better mp3 player.
Apple SHOULD really consider recalling the ipod, this device it horrible. I my self have had 3 new ipods straight from Apple in the last year all with the same problems you all are having. I regret even getting the ipod to begin with.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • IPod Classic Doesn't Charge in PC Port

This is my first post, so bear with me.
So, I'm at school, and a 4th grade teacher calls me down to her room. She said she had two broken iPods w/ chargers. She gave these to me, saying that I could keep one if I could fix them. She wasn't very good with technology, and I simply charged the iPods and they turned on and operated. Except for one. I can use the second iPod if it's plugged into the wall and stand for it, but If I plug it into my PC, it shows the Apple logo and quickly turns off. Both iPods are 1st Generation 40GB iPod Classics. It doesn't appear in the iTunes window, so I can't update/restore it. Any help?

...12V car charger is not working...
...Funny thing is it is charging with a 12V Parrot car kit with dock connector.
So the 12v Parrot car kit is different to the 12v car charger then? Or is one of these items actually the 24v charger you referred to earlier?
    A few points to note:
Any Apple charger should be okay. If the wall charger is non-Apple, make sure to check the rating.
Whatever the source, the output from the charger needs to be at least 500mA. This "output rating" should be writtten on the device somewhere, as 5v 500mA or similar. If the charger supplies only 300mA (a common rating) this will not charge an iPod Classic.
Car batteries supply 12 volts. So a car charger needs to change the 12 volts to 5 volts. Some old iPods could be charged with 12 volts and some (not so old) iPod models could be charged by either 12 or 5 volts. However, the voltage was supplied on a different "line" (or wire) into the iPod. So a charger that changes 12 volts to 5, but feeds the 5 volts on the 12 volt line, will not change an iPod. As far as I recall, no iPod Classic can be charged with 12 volts, all Classics use 5 volts. (See point 5 about the definition of a Classic.)
A 24 volt charger (to which you referred originally) would presumably be for a commercial vehicle. So a charger designed for 24 volt supply in, needs to step down (change the voltage) to 5 volts out.
Here's a major point: is your iPod actually a Classic, as defined by this article; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 ? If it is not either an 80GB, 120GB or 160GB iPod, then it is not a Classic. In that case, check with the article to correctly identify your iPod.
If your car charger has a plug-in lead, with a plug that can be turned around to supply the same voltage, but with opposite polarity, then you need to check that the lead is connected the correct way.

  • Ipod classic doesn't charge from 24Volt

MyiPod classis A1238 doen't charge from 24 Volt and from wall charger. It does from USB connected to my iMac.
    What could be wrong?
All original cables. exchanging checked cables doesn't work either.

I may contact my lawyer and have them contact them. Iv spent over $500 for this and acc.. only to not have it work. Not only that have no one return my call. From what iv read on this site it seems they never even tested these things. Seem they let us test them only to find that there selling faulty stuff and im sure they know. They should do a recall to everyone of these darn things. Anyhow i will continue to try to work at this. It baffles me that spending so much for something and i can make it work isnt right.
Creative is usueally good at replacing broken zens. I don't know why you are so upset, just get a new one and go on.
And if you think that Creative has a lot of problems with there micros, look at ipods (follow the link in my sig) If micros should be recalled, then ipods should be banned.Message Edited by penguinking3 on 05-8-2005 03:8 AM
